Hey friends, thanks for watching! I hope I was able to showcase the potential of the Shortcuts app on Mac. With thousands of shortcut variations available to build or download, the possibilities are endless. What are your go-to shortcuts? Inspire me in the comments! And if you crave another Mac tricks video, here it is: ruclips.net/video/9nv0n-Wwwkk/видео.html
I just found your videos today. I'm impressed with both the level of information you present but your enthusiasm in doing so. Makes learning new stuff a LOT more interesting and fun. Great work! I'm looking forward to working through your back library and what you do in the future!
Awesome video, and incredible production quality as always. Thanks for making this video, there's very little information for people who are unfamiliar with Shortcuts on how to get started, this video will be super useful as an [enjoyable] introduction to the app. :D
It‘s great to hear from you again, thanks for watching another video! Glad you enjoyed it! That shortcut would be great - just make sure it doesn‘t randomly blast my videos during work or when waiting in a queue at the supermarket. That could lead so some awkward moments!
@@AdiGoldsteinComposer Great to hear! If you've subscribed to the RUclips channel, I'll let you know through Community Posts / or on Instagram (@themacvince). Cheers!
This is great, thank you! I tried changing the word count from 'Characters' to 'Words', but it's still just showing characters in the results. (I quit the app and reopened it, but still no change). Any idea why it would be doing that? Thanks!
Unfortunately the url shortener doesn't work for all urls, which is a shame because I was hoping to be able to make a barcode for links to my IT ticket queue but the link can't be shortened so I'd end up making a really long barcode otherwise
Thank you for the recent video. I have been researching and experimenting with the Shortcuts app on Mac for about two weeks now. Could you please create a tutorial video on how to create an automated folder in Finder with the following functionality: 1. Only run when the folder is opened 2. When the folder is opened, the Mac automatically activates the screen saver or enters the lock screen mode. In simpler terms, this automation feature requires Touch ID/passcode authentication to unlock the Mac when a user opens the designated automated folder. I have searched for various resources and guides on Google, but they haven't achieved the desired outcome. If I'm not mistaken, starting from iOS 16.4, Apple introduced automation features (such as activating the screen lock when opening an app), but I'm not certain about macOS. Thank you.
Hey, thanks for watching! Unfortunately, there's no way to use Shortcuts Automations (the ones you know from iPhone) on Mac yet, it's simply not supported. So am I right that you want to "lock" a folder so nobody except you can access it?
@@macvince That's right. I have looked into the process of encrypting files and folders using .dmg, but I still want to lock them with a more automated tool.
hi @macvince I recently moved from windows to mac, & I must say, unless I had your vids I might not have transitioned well! i need a help please - using Shortcuts App, is it possible to replicate the 'option+command+h+m' feature i.e. to minimise all apps/windows? in windows we can use 'windows+D' to minimise all apps.
Hey, thank you, means a lot! You can replace keyboard shortcuts in the System Settings, under keyboard, and then Keyboard Shortcuts. Here just search for Minimize and replace the shortcut :) Hope this helps!
I tried and failed to create a simple shortcut to copy a specific file from one directory and paste it into another. It's impossible to figure out how to create such a simple shortcut in the Shortcuts app on my Mac!
Unfortunately, there are no automations on macOS, so you can't let it automatically open a file. However, there's a neat trick in the Calendar app that let's you add a file as the reminder, so it can automatically be opened at a set date and time. I showcased this trick in my 50 macOS tips video, at 05:55: ruclips.net/video/0rrwPTVjVOA/видео.html Hope this helps!
@@aaronthemann8384 No problem! It can't launch shortcuts, unfortunately, that's the only drawback of the macOS shortcuts app (that it lacks automations). However, there's an app called Shortery that should enable automations on Mac - I haven't tried it out yet, but it looks like it could solve your problem.
You can add them to the Dock! Just drag them there :) Bonus tip: If you then hold down Command and drag them from the Dock into the Finder toolbar, you can pin them there!
Man your video effects are a bit too much. First time watching a video of yours, but the flashiness is just way over the top, it’s pretty distracting. If it was an ad for a product cool, but I just want to learn something, video doesn’t need to be all over the place in effects. Anyway, I’m sure I’m the only one, and I’m sure you don’t care, just a random opinion is all. I did enjoy the content though
I do care - thank you for your feedback! Editing is a big hobby of mine and I love adding in little easter eggs, cool animations and transitions - so sometimes I can get a bit too excited. However, I created this channel because I got bored by a lot of Mac tutorials just showing a screen recording with a voice over for 15 minutes. I'm sorry if it was a bit too over-the-top for your liking - and I totally understand that, it's not for everyone. I'm still trying to find the balance between fun/engaging content and the tutorial aspect, so your feedback helps me improve on that. Thanks again and hope you've learned something new despite the flashiness!

that was one of the best videos I've seen in a long time - just knowing how to add shortcuts to the menu bar was seriously useful - many thanks indeed
Amazing! Thanks for watching and have fun further exploring the Shortcuts app!

Dude I've made some shortcuts and looked high and low for good ones. You are a wizard at finding useful stuff and making it fun to learn.
Cool, thanks!! Love to hear that!
Love the list of shortcuts, thank you :)
That's great! Thanks a ton!
You have the most useful videos I swear. The good editing is just a bonus

You're an excellent instructor. Thanks so much.

I don’t have a Mac, but this is really cool. Great and detailed video.

Thanks for the excellent video. It's a great help.
I'm thinking of creating a shortcut that automatically plays videos when you post them 💯🔝

just a like and subscribe isn't enough for you.❤
fantastic man.
thanks love it, learned it quick. wish you could have taught me how to make my own shortcuts
Thanks for the feedback! I‘ll try to make a video on that too!
All your videos are on fire! Please share how you make them, it would be so amazing to see your process. 🌹
Thank you!!! That's motivating to hear! I'm already in the planning process of creating a video course on how I create my videos, so stay tuned!
@macvince Can't wait to purchase this kind of course! Is there a way to subscribe so I don't miss it?

This is Brilliant!
Amazing video by the way!
Do you know how to make custom Shortcuts Key combination Like: Command+M used as F1?
Quick question: how do you do the tilt effect and in general screen animations for your videos? For example at 3:00
Unfortunately the url shortener doesn't work for all urls, which is a shame because I was hoping to be able to make a barcode for links to my IT ticket queue but the link can't be shortened so I'd end up making a really long barcode otherwise
Can't get the Speak Body of Article shortcut to work on Mac. Works fine on iPhone and iPad
What do you use to edit your videos?
Final Cut Pro :)
I wonder how do you play music MiniPlayer after you run the shortcuts please
If you have Apple Music open and click on the little album cover next to your player at the top, it opens as this MiniPlayer window.
@@macvince oh i thought it has the action to open the miniplayer in shortcuts.
