I replaced the EGR valve for a 2014 ML350 Bluetec recently. The old EGR did not remove easily. I needed to use a large brass punch tool to disengage it from the housing. Come to find out, the old EGR valve was installed without a steel washer. I used anti-seize during the installation of the new unit to prevent the difficulty of future removal. Thank you for the video.
Hi, yes it was very tough, I had to use a chisel and tap it in the small gap between the valve flange and the housing. It bent the gasket a little, and also the aluminum, but i just straightened the gasket and filed the housing.
did this 2x on an x166, twice bc cleaning it did not fix the p0404 and p0405 returning. I used small locking plier to pinch but not cut the larger 1" coolant hose near the firewall before removal, almost no coolant lost. second time, the car was quite hot and more coolant came out of the block at the mating surface due to expansion pressure. So let it cool off AND clamp and you will only lose a cup or two of coolant. had to use a chisel to get it to separate and later file the mating surfaces (both) with a small metal file to make sure it was flat again. the new gasket is only a few bucks order that ahead of time. waiting months and months now for mercedes to find a new valve to put in under warranty. pathetique.
It can be tested whilst it's still in place using a Diagnostics Tool. Once it's off the vehicle, the most you're able to do is physically push the Valve to see if it moves or not. Further; merely cleaning a Faulty EGR Valve equates to a 50/50 chance of it working once cleaned.
HI Mate, Appreciate your post and guide on the reverse steps,. What was the error code you received on the diag tool? What were your symptoms? Did the error prevent manual gear changes after error came on?
Hi, lil new here, just get the p245b code plus 2006/7. It’s a 2012ml350 bluetec. I think she’s on limp mode cuz it goes on shift at 3rpm and won’t paddle shift. Have any issues? Or any advice? It’s something about the swirl flaps… I’m a lil miss here so any help will be appreciate!
Hi, Does anyone know how to test the EGR before installing one? I tried plugging the wiring on a new EGR before removing the old one, and the car threw a p0405 straight away, and the new valve did not move at all. Thanks! (Update: the new EGR valve was faulty)
It can be a really tight fit. I had to use a sharp chisel into the join and very carefully one tap once on each side and repeating. It eventually started to move.
Hi, Sorry, not it took me ages and I was guessing how to do it most of the time. Just reverse the steps in this video and you should be able to work it out.
Hi, I was trying to diagnose the NOx errors causing the CEL light to be on. it is a late 2014 with 60k km / 40k miles on it. as you can see, the EGR was pretty clean.
Hi, Just take your time and try rotating before lifting. The valve seems to be a pretty tight fit, but lifting it straight up is necessary, rather than a wedge on one side (like I did)
@@jackpwc01 Hey thanks for your reply. Nothing worked until I found a video where use of chisel was recommended. Follow the steps and boom, came out like butter!
Great, glad it worked out. I think I also used a knife or chisel, you can see that on the front left bolt boss. If I remember right I had to file or cut off some burrs after.
@@wuchi60 hey I am not sure with your question but my EGR was impossible to remove just by twisting with hands.. I had to use chisel as shown in the video to break open the joint. Just take your time and dont rush.. These parts are Aluminum and you dont wanna damage it.
My R350 the same engine. Losses power after pas 40mph. Up to 40mph everything OK no check engine. Only one code on is P0405 what mean EGR was checked and is so clear looks like brand new. What happens anyone know. Thanks
Hi Michael, before I started I didn’t even know the coolant ran through it! It was a bit of a surprise when I could feel the leaking when I finally got the valve raised from the gasket. I didn’t see any others like that on RUclips earlier. I guess it leaked out around half a litre. I have new coolant ready and I’m going to do a flush and replace shortly.
I got a p2425 ( exhaust gas recirculation valve control circuit open ) ..code after having a water pump replaced . Would know reasoning to it perhaps ?
Hi, Do you have an OM642? As that is a standard OBD code - if can you get a Mercedes specific scanner that will help. You can also cycle the valve with a good quality scanner. It could have been damaged by overheating, or/and overheating due to an airlock. Also check the connector. Good luck! Some further info here: www.obd-codes.com/p2425
@@jackpwc01 Thank you for your reply, yes it is a 2012 w166 Bluetec ML 350 4 Matic, it appeared after a failed water pump, water pump was replaced , seems it went away for now, however now I have some knocking sound passenger side of the engine around one of the injectors . joy of Benz diesel lol.
@@BiLoSellHigh Not really, get the Star system connected and code the new parts with the system. Invest in a chinese star or xentry computer it will pay off. Or just go to a specialist and they will have this. FYI: just having the system, is not enough there are ways to paste the codes in various folders for it to be accepted.

Awesome. You might be the only RUclipsr actually making content on W166 Blutec! Theres hardly any info on these and most people are in the dark
You're welcome.

It can be tested whilst it's still in place using a Diagnostics Tool.

I can't find my pipe for the water port where does it come from under the air filter box ?
Thank you for the video very helpful ✌️✌️🎸

Indeed it is!
HI Mate,
Appreciate your post and guide on the reverse steps,.
What was the error code you received on the diag tool?
What were your symptoms?
Did the error prevent manual gear changes after error came on?
Hi - I was not checking the EGR because of an EGR code, I was just looking for general problems related to the Nox sensors faults.

Thanks bro, you help me.
Same problem here. Star obd scanner threw obd error P24A5, and special code 154900

Sorry, do you mean for the EGR valve? I didn't change mine, just checked and cleaned it. So I don't know if it is plug and play

Hello its long her. Do you have found this problem p1405.?
@@aydinfurkan2496 maybe it's a faulty exhaust pressure differential sensor
You forgot the gasket !!
How did you physically pull it out. Mine won’t budge

What did you use to clean the EGR valve? Any lube needed on the shaft?
Spray de-greaser, from memory
how did you remove the cover to access the actuator?
Hi, from what I can remember it just unclipped.
Thanks for posting. What prompted you to clean it? Year and miles of your ML?

jackpwc01 heard these nox sensors can be issues later on in life not sure they said bad batch was installed
Did you drain the coolant first? Thanks
Hi -
No, but I lost very little when the valve lifted.
It was a surprise to me that the coolant passed through the valve!
My EGR valve is stuck so bad it didnt wanna budge .... any tips or tricks you learnt to remove it without damaging aluminum ? Thanks in advance.

What will happen if I let disconnect the egr
As it is a part of the emissions, it will probably throw and error on the ECU and bring up the MIL light.

Good content. You could have made a great contribution if you simply did some easy editing and flooded the engine compartment with light
