@@salvadorenoify 100% What's interesting is Aemond's change in expression in the stare-down with Daemon. I wonder if Aemond is annoyed that Daemon absolutely knows his game?
It's hilarious because, for possibly the first time in his life, Daemon feels what it's like to be on the receiving end of this kinda thing lol. The years have mellowed him out a bit, and he's now a father figure trying to prevents fights with four punch-happy teenagers. For once, he seemed to be genuinely just enjoying hanging out and having a nice dinner with Rhaenyra and their joint children, not up to anything else, and then suddenly Aemond starts stirring drama and Daemon has to disrupt his nice evening to sort it out. I think it's profoundly ironic that, just as Viserys is fading from the world forever, Daemon finally understands just how his brother felt all these years, and how much he had to put up with.

@@johnrayordas to be fair Otto never lied about anyone's doing so far, Daemon was exiled because Otto said the truth about him and Otto was fired because he said the truth about Rhaenyra and Daemon, in the show Daemon confirmed it himself to the King, and there was many witnesses, so it means that wasn't a rumor, and that's the clever thing George did with the multiple narrators 👏🏻, they'll give you crazy things you know immediately that it never happened but they'll also give you the truth, because GRRM will not write a history book full of events that never happened, what's the point in that
An obvious but I believe to be, overlooked detail of this scene is HOW Aegon immediately & brutally slams Lucerys head to the table & how it looks like hes reveling in the moment. To me, the way he did it really says that after all these years, he understands that his brother was outnumbered & alone and because of that Aemond ended up losing an eye. His mom Alicent slapped him the night it happened and said the same thing so it’s probably resonated a lot more with him after all these years & when this happens and Lucerys gets up to team up against Aemond again, Aegon is just like “Not this time, you little shit.”
Here's another detail you overlooked. Aegon is a cruel, psychopathic idiot and is strong competition to Daemon and Otto for being the worst person in that room. He's the reason Aemond and his nephews hate each other in the first place.

He was challenging but also he knows he is a dragon and the king's son so he is toying everyone in this scene. And what a majestic performance. Ewan delivered those 10 minutes of screen time and became one of the most popular characters, such an amazing job!!!!
There are multiple reasons for Aemond's speech, 1st, when Jacaerys gives his speech to Aemond, neither he nor Lucerys make any apology for taking off Aemond's eye or how they treated him in the past, but Aemond can't strike back because King Viserys is there, and shows favoritism towards Rhaenyra and her sons, even though they are bastards, everyone knows it, and the only reason they haven't lost their claims to the throne is thanks to Viserys. All this tells Aemond is that his nephews are disingenuous. Then, despite Viserys not being there, Lucerys chooses to antagonize by reminding him of their pranks on him, proving that they are neither apologetic or truly care for him. So, Aemond gives his toast to them, to remind them that they are bastards, they can't escape, and that Viserys won't be able to protect them forever. He reminds them of the truth that they want to forget, and proves that he isn't the same passive child they could bully around. BTW I love the way he shrugs off Jace's punch and then pushes him down without batting an eye, internally he's just like, "Really nephew? Okay, let's brawl."
No you are wrong. He was angry because that pig in front of him brought memories of his childhood when Strongs & Aegon pulled a prank at Dragonspit where Ae struggled to get a dragon & they prank him with a pig to show Ae as his ride 🌚 Calling Bastard is easy & he knows consequences, Ae just took revenge because of the prank he faced before & now a pig in front of him & that makes 2nd strong's laugh which instigated Ae's rage. I hope u remembered
@@soniclaughter I think it’s a combination of that and what the original user posted. Aemond is a really complex and well-written character. Lots going on there
I completely forgot that the reason Luke was laughing at Aemond was because of the pig they serve to them was a reference to the pig they dressed up as a dragon when they were younger
That makes more sense! I thought it was because it was set down on the side of Aemond’s lost eye, so Luke thought Aemond couldn’t see it, which is why he didn’t move.
It's little details like this the show writers add that make this show so great. They have to fill in the blanks a lot because the books only cover major plot points but weaving them all together and making everything *_make sense_* so cohesively, well. It's being done perfectly.
the amount of mutual respect between aemond and daemon is clear, daemon almost looks proud, bet he wishes they were on same side tbh, and you can see aemond looks up to his uncle
Look at Daemon at 0:15 He looks so fucking ecstatic when he realizes that Aemond is about to start shit. You can tell at their stand-off that Daemon admires his nephew for speaking that boldly.
Helena almost started clapping because she didn’t understand the implications. Grandpa Otto ran to her side to make sure she didn’t get hurt at the end there too
I like how Aemond genuinely considered throwing down with Daemon… before grunting quietly and walking away, as if saying, “Not yet.” And I equally love Daemon who basically went, “Careful boy, I like you… but not that much.” And all without saying a darned thing. Brilliant acting.
Its like a sense of mutual admiration between two rogues. Aemond kind of admires Daemon, can see it how he looked up to him when he beheaded Vaemond Velaryon. Daemon in turn feels reminiscent of his own younger days when he looks at Aemond. Heck, they even look similar. Perhaps Alicent can clear the air here? lol.
I love the way Aemonds face changes after Daemon sighs. Up until that point, Aemond was in "control". With just a few words he managed to instigate a fight, causing the "Strong boys" to be completely irrational and emotional, and he was also in a position of physical power where he could laugh off a punch and just push over one of them without really trying. He overpowers them completely and plays with them, like a child with his toys. Heck, he's the son of the king and already has been maimed by them once, there would probably be hell to pay if they harmed Aemond. Then Daemon enters the scene and with just one word manages to completely defuse the situation, bringing them back to rationality. Then Daemon turns to Aemond and sighs exasporatedly, "what am I to do with you". There, Aemond faces an immovable object that he can't manipulate, overpower or even command. He can't taunt Daemon, he probably can't cut him down and Daemon probably couldn't care less about killing the son of the king. What's worse, he realizes that in Daemon's eyes, Aemond is just a child, which irks him. Aemond sees Daemon as someone who treats the entire world as his playthings, a man with absolute power who can do whatever he wants, and he yearns for that, himself. Aemond wants to be respected and feared. He's been mocked all his life until he bonded with a dragon, he doesn't tolerate any slights. And how does he see Daemon? He commands respect and fear, which he has earned. He can slice a man's head in half without repercussions, not even the Hand of the King - the most powerful entity next to the king himself - can command people to disarm him. Not even because he's royalty, but because he's Daemon. What Aemond misses is that Daemon's "power" and "persona" isn't deliberate, it's incidental. They are almost opposites in that regards. Aemond takes himself *very* seriously, he prays devotedly during the dinner and is very proud of himself. He wants to be king because he sees himself worthy of it and because he wants the respect and power that position entails. He's always tense as a bowstring, as if he's just waiting for an excuse, any excuse, to let go. Daemon, he's relaxed. He doesn't really care for status or how others perceive him - he never *wanted* to be hand of the king, he wanted to be *his brother's* hand of the king. He can brush off insults or reply back in ways that are far more hurtful. He doesn't wait for an excuse because he doesn't need an excuse. He lives for himself, freely, but not for the idea of himself. It's not that he *can* do whatever he wants, he *chooses* to do whatever he wants - and he faces consequences for his actions, like being deprived of master-titles on the small council or jobs like captain of the watch, or even being ostracized by his brother and banished from the capital, but Aemond doesn't see that. If Aemond is like a sharp, finely fletched arrow flying towards its intended goal, Daemon is like the wind.
Thinking about this from Jace's perspective he had no idea what had just happened lol. He was just dancing with his aunt, and then he thinks his uncle is going to toast him and then gets called a bastard. He was probably thrown for a loop, like "what tf was that for?!"
The background reactions are so funny. Aegon being the only one to join Aemond’s toast, Helena clapping giddily not realizing the social cues of Aemond’s motives, Daemon’s reactions to everything, and Aegon immediately backing up his brother when the fighting started.

That's true!! I felt that when Daemon stared at Aemond he thought he was looking in a mirror (like, if Daemon was thinking that if he were in the exact same situation as Aemond he would have done the same).
He really didn't though, he held his gaze long enough to send the message then broke to the side and walked right by him. I actually think he was trying to communicate that he's not scared.

Daemon getting "heir for a day" flashbacks

@@Alan-xg4yr Ikr? Absolute Chad behavior
He was angry because that pig in front of him brought memories of his childhood when Strongs & Aegon pulled a prank at Dragonspit where Ae struggled to get a dragon & they prank him with a pig to show Ae as his ride 🌚

@1:22 Daemon looking at Aemond saying, "Look Mini-me, this ain't what you want!" LOL 😂🤣😭

He's learned to control himself thru the years and demand respect only when necessary. Aemond has lots to learn from him.
daemon "the cuck of dragonstone" can teach aemond nothing
That's true!! I felt that when Daemon stared at Aemond he thought he was looking in a mirror (like, if Daemon was thinking that if he were in the exact same situation as Aemond he would have done the same).
He really didn't though, he held his gaze long enough to send the message then broke to the side and walked right by him. I actually think he was trying to communicate that he's not scared.
@d bollman I read on another post that in the books Daemon and Aemond look alike, so in that case, it was meant to be like that.
@d bollman aemonD , Daemon. They are literally the same, they both 1v1 each other with their dragons later on as well.
Luke started it lol
Exactly 💯
Facts
And Aemond finishes it over Storm's End. Can't wait to see that little shit Lucerys plummet to his death
Yeah lol, i would have done the same
Team black, but quite a lot of bad stuff happened because of the kids alone. Both Aemond being bullied in his early years, then again right here, just because Luke couldn't just at least pretend he's sorry for what happened or just be still. In the end it's what lead to the latter's demise and what started the war. Shame.
I love Daemons look in the background when Aemond announces his final tribute, like a giddy child
I like how aemond pauses and says "mm" while he talks
Real young badass
So what I'm getting from this is Luke is one of those people that is more than happy to dish out banter but not receive it back. If you're going to give a smug, shit-eating smile to the man you bullied as a child and then took his eye, how about not pulling a surprise pikachu face when he makes a little comment of his own.
Especially when he's a foot taller, stronger, and you've seen how skilled he is in combat
Im confused, cause last I looked, a "laugh" and a "comment" are not the same thing. What exactly did Luke say? oh right. Literally nothing.
it wasnt Luke who bullied Aemond. it was Aegon
@@geoffreyauguste6678 I mean it was both. But Green supporters like to forget about Aegon taking part
@@christoperwallace6197 Aegon wasn't the one who mutilated and maimed Aemond, Luke and Jace did. As distasteful he was with his stupid sh*t, since the day his brother was maimed,Aegon become into his defender as this scene shown
"Thank you uncle... for calling us handsome, wise... and of course, strong... you are a man of..... "great vision".
1:23 - 1:39 so much said by the eyes/body language between uncle and nephew without one line uttered except a quiet "...hm..." two dragons staring each other down literally. Awesome acting!
I like to think that the "Strong boys" is a off hand reference to Alexander the greats father's wedding when one of Philip's friends who's daughter Philip is marrying made a toast
"May the gods bless Philip and Euridice a legitimate heir to the throne."
its because their true father is from house strong, but given how lame that punch was theyre more likely from house weak
@@InitialPC Mate, Larys is a cripple. House name ks not everything.
@@InitialPC he is just saying the idea of making toast which is a insult is inspired by history
@@InitialPC house weak. really thats much more cringe
@@ChevyChase301 exactly, a lot of martin's work is inspired my historical monuments
I always loved aemonds response, he snapped when he hits the table but effortlessly transfers to a cold and clever character who has spent so much time preparing for a fight he’s practically begging for it. It doesn’t even feel like he backed down from Daemon, it felt like “not yet”
guy didn't even slip the glass in his hand from that punch😂😂😂💀💀
Daemon seems like he can’t help but admire Aemond’s gall.
0:49 Helena is like “yay strong boys”
Can't wait for the battle over the God's eye it's the most badass battle in the dance of dragons
A: You've lived too long, uncle!
D: On that, we agree.
they probably gonna change alot in it since many that led to the death of both them is changed in the show
