Klim vs Rukka Jackets - Long-term user review

  • I own a Rukka Kalavesi suit and a Klim Badlands suit. These are regarded as two of the highest quality (and highest price) motorcycle outfits on the market. In this video I do a detailed comparison of what the two jackets are like to actually use and wear long-term.
    Look out for my follow-up video in which I compare the matching pants.
    I don't make any money off my videos as I have insufficient viewers to get more than a few pence of RUclips advertising video. If you enjoyed this video and found it useful, please consider buying me a coffee: www.buymeacoff...

    I have been riding i Rukka gear for the last 18 years and think it is superb. Your rukka jacket still looks new after 5-6 years and the Klim looks older even though it is newer.

      Light colours will show dirt which makes them look older regardless of relative wear.

    Thanx for the great & in depth review.
    I have both the Klim Carlsbad & Badlands Pro combined with the Carlsbad pants.
    I ride in arctic climates mainly Scandinavia. Yes it rains & snows & can Get cold.
    Use Carlsbad as a summer jacket & the Badlands as a spring & autumn jacket.
    Pros:
    Protection
    Comfort
    Water proofing
    Loose fit (as i use airbag vest)
    Ventilation
    Pockets & storage
    Kidney belt
    Cons:
    Reflective strips comes off after a while.
    Zippers to pants reveresed(out of the box can not fit a pant of different model)
    Badlands too heavy & stiff making cold air penetrate thru the sleeves near glove.

    American fit is larger around the body so they put in a belt to carry the load. Americans should go easy with those hotdogs and hamburgers! I have both Klim and Rukka gear and Rukka is always the slimmer fit. Much more comfy for me than Klim, although both are excellent depending on your body type. My buddy and his big belly prefer the Klim. Never thought that was the reason! Thanks for the great review!

    • @SongsFromTheSaddle
      @SongsFromTheSaddle  11 месяцев назад

      I agree. I find the Klim is better in winter when I can fit a warm jacket underneath

    • @michaelskinner896
      @michaelskinner896 8 месяцев назад

      Haha, there are big guts everywhere, not just in America. I will say that "true" adventure jackets particularly from Klim, are cut wider in the waist so that the rider doesn't experience restricted movement in challenging, off-road conditions. Sizing can be challenging for anyone and any manufacturer.

    Really good review, I was looking at getting the Rukka as I prefer the black style jacket and I like the cut better too. But after watching this I think the Klim would suit my needs so much more. I will have to go and try one on and see what they are like to wear. It is a big decision as they are very expensive so this video could have saved my from buying the wrong one just because I think the Rukka looks cooler.
    Cheers buddy 🙂

    • @SongsFromTheSaddle
      @SongsFromTheSaddle  Год назад +1

      Yes it is a very big decision as they are ridiculously expensive. Like you, I love the cut and style of the Rukka and I wear that jacket a lot. However, the Klim is better for adventure riding, as I explain in the video.

    I have the Klim Badlands Pro just like yours but in Large. The venting is superb.
    That rear zip takes some practice to do up. I sometimes just zip them together before putting the pants on if I know I’m heading out all day.
    The Badlands Pro pants by the way are superb for venting and fit. I wish the lower cuffs were easier on/off over my bigger boots.
    You missed several more pockets btw 😅

    For better ventilation from Rukka check their Rimo-R (formerly called ROR) adventure jacket. I have had ROR 4 years now, it has already good ventilation but it is improved even more for Rimo-R. And it's about half price compared to these 🙂

    I enjoyed your presentation style and personality. I watched the entire video despite never being interested in these types of jackets. Firstly, I wouldn't spend that much UNLESS it was bespoke. Secondly, I don't tour. I ride off-road enduro style most of the time. Finally, on the rare occasions I ride on-road, I'll wear leathers or lined jeans.
    If you'd consult MOTOCAP and learn a bit more about safety components, you'd see that despite being a tank, the Klim Badlands Pro didn't score very well for impact abrasion. However, their choice of armour is very good for road riders and scored very well.
    I think you are incorrect about armour weights. If you add all your pads up, I think you'll be in the 1.5kg range which is not insignificant. I tend to wear all the armour but in a lighter chassis off-road. I just need a no frills shirt, no need for pockets or any silly extras. These kind of things are for sale, but I can make my own bespoke garment for about £50 in materials that is superior in fit, comfort and safety.
    I'm originally from Yorkshire but now I live in Mongolia. So I know English weather (yuk) but Mongolian weather is extreme but not wet, except a bit in Summer. So our riding conditions are entirely different. When I ride in Vietnam and Thailand though, I wear a perforated leather jacket, part-lined kevlar jeans and take waterproofs separately. I'm never too hot unless I stop in which case, I'd be hot in anything. Mesh is diabolically weak and should only be put in low-risk areas.

    You didn’t show the napoleon pocket on the KLIM. Waterproof. You didn’t really talk about which pockets are waterproof either. Otherwise great depth. It’s the only reason I mention it

    Thanks for the review. Wish I had seen this earlier however I think I bought the right jacket for me. I just purchased the Rukka Raptor R jacket and pants. I like the jacket very much so far. I think it looks much better than Klim imo. I have had jacket with short zipper to connect the pants and it was hard. The zipper is much better on Rukka. A bonus is that the Rukka zipper is compatible with Halvarsson/Lindberg also. I bought a zipper to mount on my biker jeans (thread with belt) when I used Lindberg jacket and this now fits with the Rukka jacket. I agree the neck collar is very bulky and also very tight for my neck. I have Rukka size 58 where the collar is a snug fit with two thin layers around my neck. My former Lindberg jacket size 60 had a collar which did not fit me at all. I always had it open or I would have a hard and unbearable pressure on my throat. What I really like with the Rukka is the nice fit. It both feels and looks great on me compared to many other brands. The many pockets on the Klim is something I can live without but could be something to miss on the long trips maybe. Both jackets seems to be a good choice anyways.

    Excellent comparison of these two premium jackets Simon. Eat your heart out Chris chap in a cap (Motolegends) I’m a Halvarssons fanboy. The Naren is similar to the Rukka at a least a third of the price.
