Jesus, ive been a hardcore VH fan since 1982, and I didnt realize how complex this song is to play. If Joe is saying it's difficult, then it's difficult!
The TransTrem is the key to that song. It doesn't just make it easier to play. It makes the sound of the transitions very unique. There's still guitars available out there with a TransTrem. I bet Satriani would love it after yutzin' with it for a bit. I guess the biggest problem is that it takes special strings, which might be a pain in the arse on tour.
Pay attention at :50 mark Joe explains it. The way Eddie played it on the Tran trem it was simpler not easy but simpler. The way Joe is playing it is harder and more uncomfortable. Blind love is ignorant. EVH was great but no where near the greatest.
Love Joe S so much. Such a class act, amazing player - and I love how respectfully he approaches these riffs. So damn cool. And Sammy and Mike couldn't be cooler. This is such a treat!
Wow!!! Shows how great Joe is and shows how amazing EVH was!!! Ps Sammy sounds great!! And Michael Anthony was and will always be the secret behind Van Halen
I love that Sammy & Mike are paying tribute to their time in Van Halen and grieving in a healthy way. A celebration of the music they made together is an enduring tribute to a once-friend and one hell of a career. "Best of All Worlds" is such and inviting and inclusive title for the tour, also. I have to say I also love DLR's touching song "Nothing could've stopped us anyway" is also a great tribute to not only Eddie, but the band's legacy and their relationship.
Even the great Joe Satriani as good as he is you can tell has difficulty with the beginning of that song that has to be humbling. I will definitely be going to this concert this may be the only tribute we get to Edward Van Halen
Joe is no slouch but this shows you just how good Ed was. Such difference in the articulation of each note and the groove of each note. Such depth to his playing that could make you swing even without a rhythm section
Just fantastic these songs are priceless , band sounds so good joe struggle a little , but I think Edward may have been the aliensent from anther galaxy to bless us with the most creative innovations and riffs
One of my fav VH songs. And they NAILED it here!!! If Joe says a piece is hard to play...it's hard to play. That tells u EVH was leagues ahead of everyone.
Fantastic. Goosebumps when Mikey kicked in, in the chorus. The amazing thing is, Sammy is himself actually a very competent guitarist, but he wouldn't even have a go at some of these parts. Kudos to Satch for stepping up!
I love this so much...What an incredible band and a huge credit to Sammy for sounding so stunningly good at his age where a lot of singers tend to struggle from wear and tear
Steinberger TRANS TREM.......Ed wrote the Music to take advantage of of the Trans Trem shift bridge to shift the tuning up & down during the song....At gigs in 1986 sometimes Ed would sometimes miss the cue for changing & locking the device & 'stump himself'...lol....What Joe is doing here is working out the chords & lines but MODULATING them so you don't have to use the device (which is clever in itself)
Extremely cool 😎. I really love this, it’s a treat for me to see Sammy and Mike jamming together and you throw in Satriani and Bonham and you’ve got 1 great band. 💯
That song I played over and over riding the bus for an hour just to go back and forth from school in the 6th grade. It always cheered me up when I was down.
Jos is killin it! It’s so tough to do justice to another guitarists rhythm, solo n fill ins … and if that other guitarist happens to be EVH it’s practically impossible🎸🤟
Something I’ve always wanted to see. Amazing seeing Satch playing EVH Music. Hope he has a Wolfgang to bring with him on tour, haha. Would be a good homage. I think Satch will get it perfect after listening and memorizing it better.

Hello to everybody. SXM is not available in Germany. Any ideas?!?
Joe is not only one of the best guitar players on the planet but a legit super nice human. Total respect.
I have been a huge of Joe Satriani since Surfing with the Alien blew me away in 1987.
Also check all of Greg Khin's songs there is at least 2 you should know.@@cubehire3653

Clearly you don’t play guitar.
@@gabbyprod There are string adapters for the Steinberger guitars so you can use regular strings instead of the double ball end strings.
He didn't say it was difficult. he said it was uncomfortable on a regular i.e. non transtrem equipped guitar.
I love that even Satch has to concentrate to play EVH. Sammy sounds amazing.
He wants to do it justice

@@funkymonk5344 And Jason Bonham 😂
@2:44 for the win!

Sammy is 76 and he still sounds AMAZING.
And Joe is 67 and sounds incredible too! Just keeps getting better
It's the magic of Cabo Wabo!
I saw him in 85' monsters of rock...I was 16 and now I have a grand kid and watching the Red Rocker in Concert still....Crazy
Damn I need to start drinking his tequila!!
It’s no wonder David Lee Roth doesn’t wanna play on tour with him.
Michael Anthony is still so awesome singing backup . He's harmony makes any lead singer sound great.
If Joe couldnt play these songs i dont think anybody can imo , You boys sound great !
Love Joe but I wish they went with Dweezil Zappa for this tour...
Joe is one of my all time favorites. Roy Marchbank is super human on a guitar he can play anything
Michael Anthony has one of the most underrated voices. still sounds fantastic
But if everybody talks about his voice, how can it be underrated?!?!?! Doesn't make any sense.
Los coros de Michael Anthony, son fundamentales en el sonido de Van Halen.
Been a guitar geek since the early 80s and it's completely surreal seeing Joe playing Eddie's music.
That's the first thought that I had as well. Freaking awesome though!
MA's backing vocals are always on point 😊
And Joe is doing Eddie proud 👌
He was always such a KEY component to the VH sound.
I was 16 when this song came out. Happy song then, happy song now. Thank you Sammy for keeping music alive and kickin"
Go figure I was 16 in 1986 too
So was I and this was my first concert!
Same here
This really shows just how insane EVH was on the guitar.
Respect for Satch at 100%. Respect for EVH 200%
I would say each one is great at playing their own music, period!
Eddie couldn’t copy Joe… completely different monster!
Watch some VH concert, even Eddie had trouble playing it.
Agreed 100%
As I’ve grown older I have really come to appreciate Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani, and this is such a great jam! Thanks for uploading
How Sammy can still sing that well at his age is wild. The whole group sounds great.
Different keys, but still a great voice
Mikey rock solid as ever on those harmonies!
He’s so good always delivers , rock solid
I always thought Eddie was using a harmonizer pedal didn’t know Michael was tapping
@@donnieanddad2012Yeah, at 2:47 I noticed the same thing. 🤘
This is a great example why EVH was and is the KING, his sense of rhythm is untouchable. Btw JS shreds.

"Grieving". lol Or maybe that's a new word for "cashing in".
The álbum named “best of both world” had some awesome new songs, i belive, the las songs Eddie and Sammy made together, great songs!
Sammy is going this tour as a tribute to Sammy, don’t kid yourself 😂
You can definitely tell Eddie wrote that intro on the piano, initially. Wow amazing.

He doesn’t sound good at all

Joe need's some reverb and chorus, it sounds so dry.

Great solo, but he trainwrecked the intro
he `s playing it on a normal guitar its very hard eddie played it a the stienberger guitar its much easyer try it.@@demonicsweaters
Even the great Joe Satriani as good as he is you can tell has difficulty with the beginning of that song that has to be humbling. I will definitely be going to this concert this may be the only tribute we get to Edward Van Halen
Also on Best of Both Worlds on this same Howard Stern session he missed quite a bit.. and I have all respect for Joe but go watch for yourself.
It's only difficult without the Steinberger's Transtrem. That's what he was saying. He doesn't have that, so it's difficult.
There is chill that goes through me when I hear Jason and Michael kick in for the intro. Then Michael starts singing backup, pure greatness.
All the little fills Eddie put in this song are next level cool.
Joe is no slouch but this shows you just how good Ed was. Such difference in the articulation of each note and the groove of each note. Such depth to his playing that could make you swing even without a rhythm section
Plus Joe is playing it in a much lower key than the song was recorded in so he’s also transcribing it.
The music gets bigger and better over time. Such a complete band they were and are now. Eddie was a true composer.
Holy smokes Joe is tapping into that magic! If this is coming to Dallas, got to see this up close.
Dallas Aug 22
Houston Aug 23
I'll be seeing them on August 31st in Toronto
Joe is a wizard/master/God. It's shocking to see how this (and the intro to 5150) is "hard" for Joe. Incredible.

@@heru777mediawell he's definitely playing them wrong.

Joe is going to sound so smooth on the finger picked part after a few shows. But it sounds pretty good already for doing minimal rehearsal!
Joe needs more practice on the Eddie stuff, by tour time I am sure he will be up to speed.
He hit a couple of dead notes at the beginning, but damn, that's badass for 10 minutes of practice!
