Great video have been using Wise the past year moving as much as $9,500 from US bank account to BDO bank account as my wife and I are building a house in Davao City. No problems or delays so far. From what I understand deposits are FDIC guaranteed like US banks to $250,000! They pay 4.85% interest on funds parked there competitive with CD’s. The Bank Behind them is CHASE. But as can happen alls well now is not a guarantee of the future results. Thanks as always great information!
Informative video Gio. I’ve been using Wise in Thailand for the past year, and I'm very happy with it. They also pay a great interest rate on any USD balance.
Using Wise for about three years, in many places, not just the Philippines. I use the physical card for ATM's in many countries converting to their currency, and often the digital card for single online transactions. I will move money into my BDO account in the Philippines with Wise, and use the BDO card for ATM's.
Thanks Gio for such a helpful/educational 'how to' video on Wise. We need those kind of explanations for many apps/cards used by travelers. I 'saved' this to go through it a few times in the future as well.
Just love wise for sending money especially to GC starting about a month ago instead of instantly the money won't get there for one day something about Pinot Bank but besides that it is still great
This was one of the BEST advice you gave me last year during our consultation! I ended up using it often while I was in Cebu. Since coming back, I got the app set up for wireless pay with my phone, and I now rarely carry cash. I keep a small balance in the account and fill it up as needed. If and when I run out of USD, it automatically transfers what Pesos I still have over to USD and replaces the Pesos as soon as I add to my USD balance. It's a GREAT card to have not just for travel but for everyday life here in the U.S.
I’ve had wise since I left America in 2021. No problems. Not once. Thailand or the Philippines. No problems. Stay frosty… stay free. It’s the only way to be.
I used to use Remitly. Then I did the math and over all Wise is less costly. Remitly has a lower fee, but they are usually 2-3 pesos less on the exchange rate.
Here in Cambodia at a restaurant, they can bring a portable credit card machine to your table where you can tap your card on the end of the machine and your bill is paid for. No one has to take the card out of sight so you can pay for your meal. They don’t have that in the Philippines??
Thanks for the video! Had some questions: Should we setup before or after arriving in The Philippines? When it asks for country of residence do we choose our passport country or PH? And finally, when we add our bank accounts is there a redirect to sign in with our bank credentials and do we need to notify our banks beforehand? Thanks in advance.
Nice Job explaining how wise works. been using Remitly which is very similiar to wise. would be interesting to compare exch rates between the 2. suspect thats where the expense is for using these services.
Hey Gio love the content. I’ve been watching you for a while and I have a question for you. I currently have a Wise card that I have had for years for my travels when I would go to the Philippines or Thailand I also have a Charles Schwab international bank account and I have, am I being too cautious for when I retire over there because that essentially will give me four different ways to access my cash here in the states you’re the one that always preaches have a back up to the back up
Very informative Gio. I was wondering if you do your transfers on a laptop, or if you put the app on your phone? Me personally, I'd not ever put any banking apps on a phone incase phone is stolen.
i have wise and a physical card. i like that i can freeeze the card so if i lose it or a scammer gets info it is locked ..unlock ,use atm, then lock it again
Did wise ask US expats in the Philippines to switch to a Philippines based account or did it allow you to stay as a US based account? I hear Charles Schwab will ask US customers to switch to an international account if they see too much foreign ATM activity. This can cause some issues for people who get direct deposit of social security into Schwab.
Hi Gio - my wife and I are moving to Iloilo next month. Would you suggest getting wise set up while in the USA - and G cash once we arrive? What is the best timing to set this up?
Very interesting and helpful, thanks. But many young girls will not have bank accounts of their own, is that what GCash is for? Does that facilitate transfers just my phone? How does that work? Many "developing countries" are actually way ahead of the West on bank-less cash transfers, out of necessity. Here everyone has bank accounts and credit cards, so we are slow to adopt other financial technologies.
I’ve had had problems with Wise when transferring money from my the US to my Thai bank account. It took several days, and no reason or explanation why. I also find it not very intuitive to use. I use it as a last resort over my other US accounts.
Gio, maybe you can help. I tried to setup a account with Wise to send money to me here in the Philippines but they want me to use plaid to link my bank account to Wise. Plaid wants all my bank account info and my username and password. Did you have to do this?
Remitly worked for me used western union 3 times then locked out would t send lol 🤣 back up to backup all I can say 2 is 1 - one is none live by it lol 🤣
This was a good detailed video regarding Wise. One Question: if your home bank locked you out of direct access to logging into your checking account, would you still be able to log into your Wise account and transfer money to Gcash that came from that checking account?
How much is wise paying you. I can do most of this with my navy fed accounts and cards. I have no foreign transaction fees in the Philippines. Wise charges over $4 to wire money from your bank account in America , my navy fed is zero. After you withdraw over $100 in one month they start charging 2% every withdraw after that and to transfer to g cash they charge 2%. There's hidden fees everywhere. Also I'm sure you probably have Navy Fed, they reimburse all my atm fees from the banks in the Philippines.
I am not sponsored by Wise. That being said I use USAA for my main account which has been fantastic. I simply use Wise as a back up and to pay my rent and fund my Gcash. Thanks for your comment.

I use them too, from Norwegian bank since 2022 des, never any problem NOK to Pesos direct within few days, work perfectly and the rate is very good.
Hey Gio some of your best work 🏖️🍻 can't remember another RUclipsr covering Wise step by step
Thank you!
Hi Gio I actually got the physical card , cant wait to come out , thank you for the tutorial
Have fun!
Informative video Gio. I’ve been using Wise in Thailand for the past year, and I'm very happy with it. They also pay a great interest rate on any USD balance.
can you withdraw Thai Baht at the ATMs in Thailand with the wise card? or is it only used to pay for things in store

How timely, was just about to open the account, I'll be sure to use the link, thanks.
I just got back from Cambodia and Wise did not work there.
It has been awesome in the Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you for this!
My pleasure!
This was an excellent video...thank you! Gotta get me a cell phone. AJ

I pay Gcash and they do it right at your table.
@@GiointhePhilippines Awesome. That’s super convenient!

You forgot to mention you can only link US, CA and UK bank accounts.
Thanks so much!
I tried to sign up for Wise and they are not currently accepting US customers, so you may want to up date your video
Oh interesting!
Good info 👍👍
Great information
Does Wise require two factor authentication and if so do they give you a choice of text or email? Excellent coverage, by he way.
They charged me $9 for the card. Should be here in a couple days.
That's what I thought, not sure why it said free on the site.
How much do you actually trust it?
Would you trust it to maintain a $5K balance?
Have you vetted it for something that large
I am only a sample of one, but three years no issues. A good bit more than $5K.

Can You open a wise acct when You are currently in the Philippines or should You be in the USA when You open acct?
You can yes but easier if you are in the US so you can get your Wise debit card in the mail.
@@GiointhePhilippines Thanks! Do You think the Debit card is needed? If I don't need it for ATM use....
Love Wise!!!
We used it to buy a car here

Gio, compared to what I use that is very expensive. I use World Remit.
It’d be nice if uI could pay for meals at restaurants so you don’t have to let them take your credit card out of sight.
I pay in cash for 99.99 % of my transactions here.
Never let one of my cards out of my sight
That is bothersome. All they need to do is write your 3digit code from the back of your card and use your number online.
I’ve had had problems with Wise when transferring money from my the US to my Thai bank account. It took several days, and no reason or explanation why. I also find it not very intuitive to use. I use it as a last resort over my other US accounts.
Wise is not good for thailand unfortunately. Banks don’t like it because source of funds can’t be verified
@@oceanearth2243 Why can source of funds not be verified?
Is there a dollar amount cap for transferring funds?
I sent 10k usd in one wire. It is also considered a domestic transaction to the US banks
Wise is great ... but not usable in Ghana where I am expating from the USA ..
Can you use the wise card to withdraw cash at the ATM in the Philippines and in Thailand?
Do they provide debit card and credit card to non us residents?
Can you get $ in foreign countries instead of local currency ?.Thanks

hello how do you send money to yourself using Wise?
hi Gio I have a a question about the gcash account as an expat / foreigner how do you qualify 4G cash account what do you need thank you
You need a Ph phone number, you are better off having a Ph license or acr card and also you need a Ph address.
What are the top 3 apps to send money to Philippines do you recommend??
Thx Gio. Very informative.
Glad you think so!
