There wouldn’t have been a real problem, because the people around back then had personalities and character. Even when they said bad things, they weren’t the worst folks in the world.
Rickles was a comedic genius. Of course that was an era when people had the ability to laugh at themselves. He's still funny to me and will always be one of my favorites.
Carson will never be equaled. Rickles and Dangerfield came on the show. He just let them go wherever they wanted to go. He'd interject something, they'd keep going and he just sat back and watched it unfold. Those days are gone for good.
I was born in 1957, and I'm so grateful to have seen all those guys. The memories that I still have of them, I will treasure for the rest of my days. As people have said, those guys will never be equaled again. Thanks for the laughs guys - you were simply the best.

I am sure there are some funny comics today, but as we age, we tend to look back at our past for what was familiar and good for us then. We seldom explore new horizons! I love a good story teller, and all of these comics were the best!

Only big star interviews, the odd Carnac routine and that was it. A lot of Ed's bits were never seen, and apparently British viewers wrote in asking what Ed McMahon actually did on the show?

Way back then comedians like Don could prosper off of that humor cause everyone knew it was in good fun and in the end he’d always end it on a good note. Today guys like that would be kicked out of comedy because of groups that would be insulted for nothing

At 70, I find that all of my favorite comedians with the exception of Jim Breuer and James Gregory are dead. I can watch these all day.
