This is the story of how a girl filled with ugly wickedness transformed into one with love and compassion. When Cinderella’s father remarried, Cinderella didn’t just receive a stepmother. Cinderella had the pleasure of acquiring two step sisters who... were positively ruthless, spoiled, cruel, aggressive, hot headed little beasts: Anastasia and Drizella. They contributed to the abuse of Cinderella and put her down every chance they had just like their mother, but for one of them there was hope. In the Charles Perrault 1697 version of Cinderella, he mentioned one of the stepsisters was actually slightly nicer to Cinderella compared to the other. Now although this idea isn’t necessarily seen in Walt Disney’s original Cinderella or in the 2015 live action Cinderella, Disney does allow that kindness in one of the stepsisters to come through in the form of a redemption tale.

That might be because, in some part of the stories country of origin, shoes were tailored to fit the individual and barely anyone else. Then there is the magical aspect. Maybe the shoes are enchanted to fit Cinderella and Cinderella alone. They would shrink or grow for anyone else to minutely that the Prince wouldn’t notice but they wouldn’t fit the woman trying them on.

I actually read an alternate version someone wrote on tumblr once and it was along this line. In the alternate version there were no talking mice and no magic. While the step-sisters were mean to Cinderella, it was only in front of their mother because they were afraid she would start to abuse them too and they just wanted her love. But in secret, they would help finish Cinderella's chores after the poor girl had passed out. In secret, they were the ones that got Cinderella a dress, one of them trading their skills at embroidery to a seamstress for it.
I think it might actually be one of my favorite versions of the story, even if it isn't an official one.

If Anastasia was a real person at this time and moment, the movie MALENA would be the best recommendation for her. Looks does not makes it easier for any of us. In real life, a lot of beautiful girls are being used for one night stands, but SOME OF those men who are using them for one night stands has their hearts on someone else even if those someone else are not as beautiful that their one night stand. ALSO: *Be honest* you'll offend people and get hated, the same thing as *LYING* people will learn not to trust you.

Maybe Drizella can change. We see after Anastasia stands up for herself and the step mother is about to leave, Drizella is clearly surprised. Maybe even at awe. And I think she also looks back at Anastasia and the baker when she is leaving with her mother. Maybe all she needed was more time and the right person just like her sister.

In my opinion they should've made this story into the whole movie. I really liked this story about ordinary people. A fat baker and an ugly step sister lock eyes and see more in each other than other's see on the outside. To her he's a handsome hunk. To him she's the most beautiful woman in the world. His princess as far as he's concerned. That is what true love really is. They should've made it into a full length feature.

I always believed Drizella and Anastasia has a huge conflict that divided the two sisters.
Drizella was favored by the mother and loyally remained by her side. She was allowed to sing and remain at her closest side. She was spoiled and took after Lady Tremaine at near spitting image.
Anastasia however got treated more poorly. But when Cinderella was in the picture. They all had a punching bag to blame and treat poorly. When she escaped, Anastasia returned to the bottom of the trio. She wants love and acceptance of which Cinderella eventually got.
When the Baker gives that to her, it’s genuine and destroys all the thoughts she had about nobility and influence. She wants love and acceptance from people. Not forced to try and impress selfish people or follow orders.

I always felt bad for Anastasia because both sisters were heavily manipulated by their mother. You can see how Tremaine puts them down, even when she prioritized them. Still, Anastasia saw through and helped Cinderella, finding her own true love in the process. Drizella shows her hesitance to leave her behind with her mother when she saw that Anastasia was able to find love outside of money. They were all abused and manipulated, brought up horribly. It's an explanation, not an excuse but still. Tremaine is truly one of the most mundane but horrible villains; making other victims the villains and accessories to her abuse, her own daughters.

I really appreciate how Cinderella also positively reinforces Anastasia with kindness, encouragement and love at every turn- when she has all the rights in the world to just hate her and have her sent away; but she doesn't. She sees that Anastasia wants to be a good person and to be loves and be herself and she encourages her to do so. So by the end Cinderella and Anastasia still have eachother in their lives with their own happy ever afters.

  • @TayoEXE
    @TayoEXE 5 лет назад +1690

I actually like the connection to the two timelines. Seeing Anastasia end up making the same choices in the end despite different circumstances shows a lot about who she is. She isn't necessarily a product of her environment, even if Tremaine had a major influence that buried her true heart for years. It shows to me that despite bad environments we are responsible for our own choices and therefore have the power to change by our own volition. If Tremaine had not influenced her, yes, I think she would have turned out better earlier, but she might have had different challenges instead like being treated too nicely and therefore being taken advantage of more easily. Either way, we can see the trials help carve out and reveal her true heart. In the end, she does want be better and support a meaningful relationship in her life.

I love that Cinderella 3 A Twist In Time shows that there was more to Anastasia than just being an Evil Stepsister.
I also adore that moment between Anastasia and the King "Everyone deserves true love", I feel that was probably the most genuine form of love and kindness that Anastasia had ever received in her life from someone she viewed as a legitimate parental figure, such a simple moment between the King and Anastasia, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

In a sense, Anastasia's plot thread of rising to be a better person is also shown in Everafter, a live action look at what the story of Cinderella would look like if it were more historically authentic and had the magic elements shaved off a bit. I highly recommend the film, especially if you haven't seen it yet.

I agree. Excellent version of the Cinderella story. I liked the creative spin they took making it a historical fairy tale. And I liked that Cinderella had a stronger character and a stronger romance with Prince Henry than just ONE dance and that's it. I feel like they kind of copied Ever After when they did the updated version of Cinderella. Having them meet in the woods, her keeping her identity a secret and so forth. Ever After was DEFINITELY the better of the two movies hands down.

I can blame it on the mother Lady Tremaine because, she taught her daughters to be like her but Anastasia has good in her and want to have her very own true love and someone that will love her and plus, Anastasia deserves to have her own happy ending.

I actually find Anastasia's story more relatable. Unlike Cinderella, she doesn't have a lot of traits that are seen as attractive normally like Cinderella's voice and beauty. (However, interestingly enough, even though Cinderella was put down almost all her life and is now in such a higher place, she is still kind even to those who treated her wrong, so she really is quite a character.) Anyway, many of us may feel like Anastasia, jealous, not confident in ourselves, and maybe guilty over our own mistakes and past. She shows that not only are there people who do love you genuinely but that she can become her best self as well for that person and herself. It requires faith in other people as well as faith in ourselves, that we can change for the better.

I’m just glad that she finally stood up to her mother and told her to “Cram It” if you get my meaning? I wish her a loving and happy life with the baker whom she loves.

I really wished that 2 and 3 were switched. I don’t really like how the sequel was a mishmash of backstories and the third was a WHAT IF alternate universe. Props to them for giving Anastasia a retribution arc but I felt as though if they were going to give her the chance to redeem herself, they should have added the story line in the sequel of the trilogy, placed it into the succeeding movie Cinderella 3 alongside the alternate universe. Anastasia question why her mother was obsessed with daughter marrying the Prince, her relationship with the prince, the kindness and fatherly bond she had with the king, meeting the Baker who she falls for and her forming a sisterly relationship with the very stepsister she despised from day one. The constant rewind and alternate of timeline would stress Anastasia, having formed those new relationships then have them ripped from underneath her until she stands up against her mother. Honestly, I would have loved it if the threquel was focused more Anastasia rather than Cinderella. It would have been fun to see the creators flesh out the baker’s personality, how he falls for Anastasia for who she truly is, and being bros with the prince and having to struggle with the fact that the one girl he loves is marrying his friend who is under a spell. When the sequel came out I thought it would have been the end. I really wasn’t expecting the third movie and felt like it diminished the charm of Anastasia’s old timeline.

The highlight of Cinderella was the subtlety of Lady Tremaine's villainy. She gaslights Cinderella into believing she has her best interests at heart and is the fair and reasonable one of them "Of course you can go to the ball! If you finish all your chores of course." *cue grateful tears from Cinderella*.
When that doesn't work she manipulates her children into punishing Cinderella on her behalf. It's the best and most heart wrenching scene in the film.
So from that it seems pretty clear that their entire lives Tremaine has been pitting the children against each other, both out of favoritism and as a method of controlling them. Not just Cinderella but probably Drisilla and Anastasia too. That's a messed up situation to grow up in and they would absolutely have been better off away from it.
Mother Gothel would pull a similar trick on Rapunzel decades later.

I always have remembered that Anastasia changed and fell in love in the second one but I literally can’t remember anything else from it, I also love that in many adaptations of Cinderella that came after this Anastasia is sometimes portrayed better than the other two. In Ever After (one of my favorites) you actually see the her character bandaging “Cinderella” after her mother beat her, and after forming a relationship with the Prince’s (steward?) she helps the prince get her back and is the only one who was not sent to hard labor for torturing “Cinderella”. The names are also different in the movie.

Honestly the only reason I'd rewatch the second Cinderella movie is cause of the Anastasia and Baker love story. Cause I loved it so much. Its shows the change in her and howbshe truely wants happiness and love. She doesn't care about wealth, she just wants someone who loves her. That scene where the baker shows the flowers to his female friend/sister/mother/fam member( I honestly don't know. Im not sure if they ever confirmed who she is). Anastasia's reaction is just heartbreaking. Then they meet at the fountain. And he outs the one flower in her hair after the goat ate the rest. Its sssoooo beautiful and wholesomely sweet.
And the question we're supposed to answer. I think Anastasia might have been nicer if she was raised differently. Cause here is my view on bullies(not calling her one necessarily but this just applies to my answer). Usually when people are bullies they bully people based on their own insecurities. And its clear Anastasia had insecurities. Her mother always made it clear she'd never find a man if she didn't appear to beautiful enough. We see it when she runs from the baker's shop after landing in some of his ingredients, she runs him from because she's insecure and when the people laugh at her. We see this insecurity like Isaac points out at the fountain when she tells Cinderella that's she's beautiful. Indicting that Anastasia herself doesnt feel she is beautiful. We see it again when she wants to wear more jewelry, when Cinderella is helping get something to wear. Insecurities cut deep. I do believe that if she had a loving more that told her beauty doesn't matter when it comes to love she would've turned out differently at a much younger age.
