I’m from a western culture, an avowed atheist male and married to a Palestinian non practicing Muslim woman. We live in the west but travel to Palestine often to see family. Our children attend a secular school. My wife’s family have accepted me and respect our decision to raise our children in a secular manner. When the kids are with their maternal grandparents they attend the mosque with respect and interest. The kids are bilingual and are very comfortable in Palestinian society. We should all just get on with life because it’s way to short to waste on bullshit.
I am positively surprised you can go to Palestine as an Atheist married to a Muslim woman and go there with her and meet the family and there is no trouble :)

As a Palestinian I agree, men no longer have the same control over women. This woman has an old school mind set likely because of her age and position in society. She has every right to not want her daughter to marry a non-muslim but her reasoning doesn't make sense in 2020 Western society. I think she probably meant to say in Islam, if the father is Muslim the kids are also muslim similar to Judaism in that if the mother is jewish the kids are too.

Personally, I can respect someone honestly stating whether they would OR wouldn't marry a foreigner / someone of another religion.. after all that is THEIR OWN choice... Regarding one's Children, Of course you can have a preference in who/what you want your kids to marry. Ultimately your kids being TRULY HAPPY should be the most important hope as a parent.(aside from health) If your child grows up to be smart, morally grounded and TRULY HAPPY you have succeeded as a parent. Everything else is extra (money, type of career... etc.) REAL HAPPINESS is above ALL.

There might have been an element of intimidation by a non-Muslim Western interviewer. they gave the most liberal/secular answer they could as they are aware of the media propaganda abuse they face, that if they were candid it might be used against them.

I want to say that this is not the first video I'm watching, of this kind, aorund this topic. I find this material truly interesting.

You can be tolerant or even accepting of people without wanting to marry them.
On the strict basis of religion that's not tolerant
The reason is because in the religion Islam, muslims are obligated to be respectful of their partner's and others' opinions and views, to agree to disagree, and there is no compulsion in religion. So Muslim men can marry a Christian or Jewish woman, because they are required by islam to be respectful of their religion. The fear is that if a Muslim woman marries a non-Muslim man, the non-Muslim man may tire of his Muslim wife and start taking offence to or try to control the Muslim woman and force her to change her religion and also prevent her from raising the kids Muslim or teaching them about islam. So according to Islam, that ruling was made to protect the Muslim woman.
Just because we love our religion and choose to marry from a certain religion . Doesn’t make us not tolerant … some Arabs don’t even agree on marrying an arab from a different country not to mentions marrying a foreigner

Well before watching the video I thought it might break the stereotypes and universal perceptions about Islamic societies. Well it didn't break stereotypes in a big way, since most women, even the young ones who were interviewed still said they wouldn't marry outside their religion, and that for them their religion is the most important . Though there were some, and it's worth appreciating👏👏👏. If women had the same opinion in the western countries, they would be labelled as intolerant, xenophobic, supremacist, racist, right wing extremely and what not!.

@@teejayyyyy you are wrong. 1) it is labeled/seen as problem anywhere in the west (among the left people, that I am somewhat part of) if a western woman said she wouldn't want to marry a man that's Jewish or Muslim or whatever for simply that reason.
For my personal view: everyone can choose what they like.
As an atheist/secular humanist I prefer people with a healthy distance from religion aswell, but if I was to say that "In my family my daughter must marry a man/my son must marry a woman that fits criteria XY" than I am. Part of the problem
