Holy crap, I never thought of it that way. I knew he was dead because 1. we saw 17 &18 kill him, and B. we only saw him in reflections and such when Gohan talked to him. So I didn't really give him saying the name right much thought.

You know, you think DBZA is full of jokes and stuff, then they drop a scene like the death of Gohan and show how much they really _respect_ the material.
I do like how they build up this epic showdown between them, the "cyborgs" say "you're gonna die," Gohan's like "no, this isn't where my story ends!" Trunks as the narrator immediately adds "this is where Gohan's story ends," then cuts to Gohan dying, looking surprised and in pain as he goes out. Like DAMN it really reminds you of how brutal this timeline really was. We can't even avenge all the heroes who tried and failed to save the Earth or all the innocent people who were slaughtered over the years, no, even that's denied, as Gohan, who was a toddler when it happened, spent his whole life training and preparing to avenge them someday...only to die the same way...only for Trunks to also fail.
And yet every 3-4 dragon ball fan says “DBZA did damage to the fandom, smh” 😅

Trunks is basically Dragonball's equivalent of Peter Parker. The writers just seem so perfectly content to deny him a happy ending and prolonging his suffering no matter what he does

That’s also how Trunks’s life also goes, He was alive then died then brought back to life.
To be fair, the only one he would actually remember is Gohan, given he was like a year old when Goku died and 18 months when everyone else died.

Kaiserneko absolutely DESTROYS it as Trunks! The scene of him screaming when Gohan dies and he turns Super Saiyan is genuinely chilling and heartbreaking.
Also the music that was used in that scene and the credits was from modern Doctor Who.

7:06 TFS confirmed the protein is Bulma's Mom's clones that her father keeps in the basement. This ties into the episode where Yajirobe goes through the fridge in the basement, and Dr. Briefs goes "most of those were even meant to be eaten that way!" Well now they are.
Trunks going super saiyan for the fist time will always be one of the top super saiyan awakenings the emotion and pain in trunk's voice is portrayed so well and dbza got it just as goof as the original
There's a scene in the forseeable future, I don't want to spoil it but...yeah, DBZA can do serious well if they want to.

Regarding the second point... once something awful has gone on for long enough people will just pick up their regular lives again anyway and either ignore or downplay the seriousness of the situation. That can happen after weeks to months, and the *cyborgs* have been going at this for over a decade at this point.

Also Taka wanted to add lines to the scene where Gohan would show off his dad issues. The lines would have been, “Shut up and call me Goku. Just call me Goku.”😅

By stating that country music has been wiped off the planet, this confirms that not only is Future Trunk's timeline is the true timeline but also _the good timeline_ and the one where he changes the past is the false and bad timeline.
2:13 Fun Fact. Yamcha is present right around here in the original History of Trunks. TFS removed him because in the abridged universe, Yamch would hang himself in Future Trunks timeline after finding out that Bulma got pregnant by Vegeta.
idk if I would call that a "fun" fact lol as we know, Goku saved Yamcha's life in the "main" timeline created by time travel, just by being a good dude and telling Yamcha he's his friend, that's all it takes sometimes, good shit

It's a fun fact in terms of DBZA production. Cause in the original unabriged History of Trunks, Yamcha was present in the scene when Goku dies of the heart Virus. In the original, Yamcha was killed by the andriods and did not off himself because of Bulma getting pregnant.@@marvelsandals4228

19:39 Listen closely to the background. It's Vegeta's scream. The one where, on Namek, he realizes Gohan took his dragonball, and his scream was so powerful that it took twenty years to reach Earth. The dialog between Trunks and Bulma is different for this moment, but Vegeta's scream is still there.

Not sure why Bulma couldn't create a Cybernetic Arm for Gohan that takes advantage of his ki.
i'm guessing the real reason in the series was because they wanted to kill off Gohan anyway so that Trunks would be strong enough to one shot freeza.
Limited resources most likely cause androids were destroying everything and the time machine was more a priority than an arm.
@@cardking7776 Yeah, as far as "in-universe" reasons go, definitely that.
We see a similar situation in the Goku Black saga. Because of how shitty everything is,
it takes Bulma a _year_ just to make the fuel for the time machine and even then it was only like,
1/2 a tank, just enough for a 1-way trip. But in the other timeline, she can fill that sucker up in like a day or so.

I saw the actual History of Trunks movie after watching the DBZA version. Everyone got merc'd hard, the actual movie doesn't pull any punches, no pun intended.

Context: Trunks getting his sword was never really explained in the future since, young trunks in the past met tapion. Not this kid.
18 jumped in front because she wanted to kill him first. But she did it at the WORST possible time.

Most of trunks's moves are basic ki blasts or techniques he borrowed from others.
Only one he really has is Heat Dome Attack. (And buster cannon but its more of a ki blast rather than a legit attack)

now the messed up part with Bulma coming onto Gohan. according to the dlc in DBZ Kakarot, Trunks and Bulma are sleeping in the basement, and we only see 2 beds sitting next to each other. meaning if Bulma were to bring any guys home, he'd have front row. that or just leave for a few hours and hope she's finished once he returns

Isn't it convenient that the Zenkai boost doesn't seem to apply in Trunks' timeline? Gohan was training, fighting, and getting hurt for up to 13 years as well as getting beaten to within an inch of his life. If only he got the kind of boost Goku got on Namek...
Ah, History of Trunks. The darkest of the Dragon Ball films.
Series creator Akira Toriyama is a big fan of Western scifi and we see it pop up several times throughout Dragon Ball. From the Aliens references of Bulma walking around the ship in her underwear on the way to Namek and Frieza's 3rd form looking like a Xenomorph to the Terminator references of Future Trunks coming back in time to warn about killer robots that bring about the end of the world in the future. Adding to this TFS added their own layer by including loads of Doctor Who references to Trunks in their show, namely with his music often being pulled directly from that show as well as the sound effects of his time machine being the TARDIS. Even the ending titles to this special were made to be a DBZ/Doctor Who mix.
Yeah, this episode came out shortly after the passing of the legendary Monty Oum. RIP even all these years later. Those who burn twice as bright burn half as long and few shined as brightly as Monty. He's still missed.
As far as the medicine for Goku goes, it did help, hence why Goku is still alive in the regular timeline. In the original show, he was told not to take it until symptoms of his disease started popping up as the medicine was common in the future but hadn't been invented yet in the present, so they had a limited amount to work with. Goku being incapacitated by his disease during the Android 19 fight was a case of bad timing, they had to take him back to Kame House to give him the medicine there and let him recover.
7,900 Zeni is honestly fairly average when it comes to what theme parks would charge you. According to Toriyama, 1 Zeni in Dragon Ball is equivalent to 1 Yen, the main currency of Japan. Currently 1 yen is a little under 1 US cent, and as of this post 7,900 yen would come out to a little over $55. For comparison, Disney's fast pass system will run you about $25-40 depending on what you get, while Universal Studios' Express Pass will run you about $90. So yeah, Super World's fast pass is pretty average in price.
Trunks' Super Saiyan transformation is one of the most hardest hitting in the series, second only to Goku's epic one and...something else later. TFS only improved on it with this film, to the point that several of the official voice actors from the main show have gotten in contact with TFS and mentioned how much they loved this take on the scene. One of the reasons you had issues with the audio in the scene is the music is straight out of Doctor Who as mentioned above and pretty much gets flagged everywhere.
Trunks getting his sword from Tapion is a reference to one of the films that sadly TFS never got to: Wrath of the Dragon. In it an alien warrior named Tapion befriends kid trunks and at the end of the film gives him his sword before departing Earth. In the closing montage of the film, it's suggested that it is the same sword Future Trunks used when he went back in time, even if the timelines don't match up correctly.
The music for the part where Trunks walks towards Gohan's dead body was absolutely epic. It's really unfortunate they had to cut it out.
I wish you guys could throw in a couple episodes midweek, so we could watch these reactions together with the TFS commentary without episodes in the gap, since both your reactions and their commentary are being uploaded at pretty much same time every Saturday

The music TFS used for Trunks finding Gohan was the Doomsday theme from Doctor Who.
The " uh" is android 18s va they got her to do the grunt and sound clipped it
So with Goku and the heart medicine, it is my understanding that he was supposed to take the medicine when he started showing symptoms of the heart virus. But Trunks meddling with the timeline delayed the heart virus affecting Goku until he fought the androids. The medicine is the only reason he survived, it did it's job. It just was just really inconvenient that the virus showed up later in the timeline.
