Done this route a few times from both directions and also over to Glen Shee . Been on these hills over 30+ years and the difference between then and now with the storm damage is pretty significant , good vid as usual , cheers from Brechin
Hi 45ltr, Back in the day we used to have club weekends in Glen Clova so it's an area we know pretty well and brings back a few memories. It was usually a winter venue so that was always a bit more challenging. Just a terrific area. Cheers
Thanks for another great video of an area I have crossed a few times. One of the best days I ever had was in this area. We travelled up on a friend’s Triumph Bonneville, parked up, and walked in and camped by Loch Callater lodge. Next day we walked over Carn an Tuirc, Cairn of Claise, Tomount, Tom Buidhe, Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, White Mounth - Carn a'Coire Boidheach, Lochnagar, An T Sagairt Mor, and thence back to the tent. I was younger and fitter then. However, since my fall at Bo’ness I now struggle to walk more than a hundred yards.
Hi Dick, Sounds like you had classic walk back in the day, certainly one to remember. I hope you slowly get back your fitness to allow improved mobility. These things just take time... Take care, Cheers
Thanks for another great video. I love Mayar and Dreish, which I did with my two sons just after lockdown. I can also say it took me a lot longer than 20 minutes between Tom Buidhe and Tolmount! Setting a cracking pace for the rest of us to trail behind as usual! Great video. Best wishes Murdo
Hi Murdo, Glad you enjoyed this one. As you'll know, once your up onto the plateau you can cover the ground pretty quickly which is a nice contrast to the more rugged peaks. Cheers
Hi Brian, We were forced east for the chance of clearer tops and it worked out fine. It's always a joy getting back up Glen Clova and heading up Dundee for the hills is unusal but a shorter drive than going west 👍 A cracking day and a fair bit of exercise. Heading north tonight to try and catch the good forecast for tomorrow so fingers crossed for clear tops. Cheers
Hi Kevin, It will all depend upon the weather. We have a have a four day window for walking this week so I expect we'll be in the northwest if the weather justifies the travel. Cheers
Looks like you had a similar day yesterday to the one we had, further South, in The Howgills, except without the threatening spectre of clag. We avoided it but was on hills near to us. Good to see these hill are unchanged from when we did them, years ago. Thanks for uploading, Charlie. 🏴🏔👍
Hi Annie, East was best for the weather again yesterday so it was great getting back into Glen Clova. A busy glen, particularly on a Sunday but a super day nonetheless. Cheers
Hi Mike, Hi Charlie, another belting walk. Mayer and Driesh seemed to be two very popular hills. I loved your walk in, that looked very pretty indeed. All the best gents Dave
Hi Dave, Yes, east was best for the weather yesterday with Glen Clova pretty busy with everyone trying to grab a bit of sunshine. Very popular area with plenty of walking options. Cheers
Hi Colin, I hope the weather plays the game next week with your trip to A' Mhaighdean as the views are worth all the effort. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you..... enjoy 👍 Cheers
Great day that one Charlie! Did Mayar and Driesh in the winter couple of years back now and the diversion was there then, a decent one though, some amount of wind damage to the trees! You'll have missed it out on this one but Corrie Fee is a sight to behold and the views on the way back down at the viewpoint you mentioned are just stunning! Cheers, Duncan.
Hi Frank, Forced east this week with everything west looking clagged in. It's never a problem visiting Glen Clova and getting up onto the plateau although we tend to head there in winter. A good leg stretcher 👍 Cheers
Hi Andy, I can't imagine the original track being open as it's staggering the number of trees down. The bypass is a good alternative which isn't always the case. Cheers
Hi Kev, We're about halfway through another round (6&7) but no plans to complete. We tend to follow the best weather forecast and pick the tops from there. Cheers
Hi itsablack, It was a cracking day and a good bit of exercise. We didn't use or see many tracks while heading to Mayar but it was pretty straightforward. Cheers
Hi Charlie, and thanks for another great excursion. It looks like great area to escape from heather-bashing! Can I ask where you got your 'holster' that's attached to your rucksack, and I assume you use it to hold your camera? Kind regards, Peter
Hi Peter, I purchased the belt tool holster from Amazon and it's great for holding the mini tripod when not using the camera. Having it directly to hand is really helpful. I've simply it onto the chest strap of the pack with a ring loop to keep it attached. Cheers
Hi Alan, Jocks Road and the Kilbo path are well signposted through the wood. A bearing from Tom Buidhe taking in Little Kilrannoch and Dun Hillocks will take you to Mayar without issue. Cheers
Hi Alistair, Once you get up to the height the going is pretty good. Grass and moss with only a few peat bits that are easily avoided. Certainly a good bit of exercise like our last visit when we headed across to Broad Cairn after a few tops before circling back to the car. It's a super area and gets us heading up through Dundee for a change which feels a bit unusal. Cheers

Hi Mike, I agree, this is a terrific area for some high level walking 👍 Cheers
Thanks for the great video.
Hello, Glad you enjoyed yesterday's outing to this popular area. Cheers
Brilliant Charlie & Mike, what a lovely walk thru the Glen. Nice easy rolling hills altho still a fair old hike.

Great walk that one Charlie. I did that 2 years back but went to Tolmount 1st. I was surprised to see the diversion still in place. ATB Andy
Hi Andy, I can't imagine the original track being open as it's staggering the number of trees down. The bypass is a good alternative which isn't always the case. Cheers
As always, great videos. I'm just curious: What backpacks do you use?
Nice one chaps. A fine day in the East. This yous well into round 6 and 7 or is it 7 and 8?
Hi Kev, We're about halfway through another round (6&7) but no plans to complete. We tend to follow the best weather forecast and pick the tops from there. Cheers
You made that hike to Mayer a short hope, but thats miles.. did you use the track from Dun Hillocks ?
