    After having so man for so long in my younger days, I really miss the sound of a red Motor. Was thinking if I came across one I'd buy it just to start it up now and then and Reminisce. I had a Jet boat with a 202 in it and sold that one and Bought a brand new Hull and built my own rig with a slightly worked 308. That was a lot of fun. Great to see an old red Motor and a 161 No less being put to use like this. Looking forward to seeing them both run. Great Aussie spirit, She'll be right and have a go not letting lack of knowledge stop you. It's all a learning curve and fun along the way.

    That old chevy six has a burnt or stuck valve. Thanks to your excellent microphone, I can hear the compression escaping while cranking.
    Pop that head, I'd bet you there's a bad valve seat.

      @@motorfab I've had a bit of experience when a teenager, thanks to the steep learning curve on my '65 Apache. I wouldn't worry much, as she's still got plenty of power to push around a Tinny!
      Best of luck, I'll be watching from here on the other side.

    Careful with the cooling system for the holden 6. Flowing cold sea water into a hot engine could cause you some big issues.
    You could use the exhaust to pre warm the water before it runs into the engine.

    • @motorfab
      @motorfab  3 года назад

      You could have a good point there. I’ve noticed all the v8 speed boats with open headers I’ve seen doing it are always playing with the inlet tap.

    Outboards work great on a jetski, however the perfect combination between motor and ski is essential, a 3 seater jetski works best with a 70hp CES extra short shaft 2-stroke Yamaha (15" shaft). Alternatively a 50hp 2-stroke Yamaha short shaft (15" shaft) with electric start and trim & tilt fitted. The jetski itself don't need to be modified much as the controls and fuel tank can be re-purposed for the build. Only the area where the jet pump was fitted needs to be built closed with fibreglass and well sealed. It is important to keep the sponsons on the side of the jetski for stabilisation. The fuel tank is already in the front to keep the nose down and the battery will also need to be installed in the front for added weight in the front. The motor needs to be mounted as close to the back as possible, the mounting bracket can be mounted directly to the seat base with an extension to the floor at the back for extra support. The trickiest part is building a bracket that incorporates the jetski push pull cable to make the motor turn left to right. All other controls can be incorporated to work with the motor without much effort. Important to install an automatic bilge pump. The bottom of the cavitation plate of the motor must be flush with the lowest part of the back of the hull. It will always sit a bit low in the back (even as a normal jetski) but it is made to ride on and not float with.

    love this fellas. you could add some additional bouancy floats to the aft of the jetski around the engine mount or some surfboard/foam cut up and fixed along the sides if its still tail heavy, cos under throttle it might try to nose up depending on the thrust angle. cos its opening/ seating hole seems close to the water line. but she'll be right.😃 maybe the thrust at speed will lift it up just right for crusing
    I liked your story about the guys who survived at sea. always great to include some random story like that. Im keen for the next update 👍
