Please, Please, Please
(Let Me Get What I Want)
(Words and Music by Johnny Marr & Morrissey)
Good times for a change.
See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man
Turn bad
So please, please, please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time
Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad
So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time

Yes, the instrumental of this and the museum scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off is just a classic cinematic memory. LOVE it!
Iconic
They also played it in Never Been Kissed.
Morrissey sings it with more seriousness and angst.... Dream Academy is covering this in a very romantic, lush way. Two different approaches and I like them both!
Nick Laird Is equisite here
Holy shit! I finally found this after like 20 years. Love this song, I would play the museum scene in ferris bueller's day off over and over
The instrumental version is on here too. I think the smiths made this song but this version is by far the best
It's a remake of The Smith's original version. I do like the extra instruments ❤️
WOW I love this song and was just watching Ferris Bueller and googled the song when that scene was playing, didn't know it was a remake of The Smiths! Love both the movie, and The Smiths! interesting to find this out after however many years since the release of the movie!
Please, please, please, Dream Academy, come back.
Watched this movie years ago with my friends.....I'm old now...museum scene will stay with me
till I can't function anymore! I'm a true Brit and I god bless America for this movie!
My fav scene in the movie. I couldn't wait for it to come on so I can listen to it. I was much younger of course back then and never knew who origanilly sang this song.I guess deep down I felt like cameron, sad, and lonely! That stare he does towards the painting feels like if he can be Young and don't have to worry about any pain or heartache anymore!
A man that can acknowledge his feels. Attention ladies!
Great movie
Same here pal,the whole film is great but the museum part and how it was shot.also this instrumental go perfect together and when Cameron stares as it zooms in until it maxes out, best part very artsy sand emotional
I'm sorry to hear that you were sad and lonely at that time of your life. I too agree that the instrumental of this song and the way it was filmed in the Museum was very strong towards Cameron's felling of not quite fitting in with his family and being a third wheel in his friendship with ferris and Sloan.
Yeah, this always got to me when I first watched it. I WAS Cameron then, sad, lonely, distant. When he stares at the painting, he sees the child and how the child is loved by her parent and he sees everything he's never had. A real gut punch.
Oh time machine.. here you are again 💜
I love this song, a Dream Academy favorite along with Life in a Northern Town!
Agree with Bill Permans comment. Haunting melody that captured the character of Cameron fully. Always moved by that great scene in the art gallery......
SAVE FERRIS
dan198660120 Cameron was the one who needed to be saved.
Oh the days! When music was genuine, actually required talent, and was moving
Yes, I wish it had emotion these days
John Hughes used the instrumental is Ferris Bueller, but the Smith's version in Pretty In Pink. They're both awesome!
Put Ferris on yesterday while on lockdown. Fave part of the film. What a tune and what a film
Absolutely wonderful !!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!
I would love for the dream academy to come back their awesome
This song was featured on the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), art gallery scene instrumental version.
I think about this song every time I stand in front of that painting at the museum in Chicago.
I think it's my favourite part of the film, the whole film is excellent but I love the bit where Cameron is staring at the little girl as it zooms in ,very artsy shots and very well directed!
+Tom Watson Agreed..
I saw this comment and thought I forgotten I'd written this some time ago. However, it seems Tom Watson's think alike!
Haha We think alike :-D
I'm also shit hot at golf like the USA pro tom Watson !
I found the 12inch vinyl of this song, both instrumental and with vocals about 25 yrs ago in a record store in the Montrose area of Houston. It' was a very rare find and in near mint condition!
Heard this song on BBC Radio 2 this afternoon and shouted out "FERRIS BUELLER". Had to look up what it was.
so weird hearing this watching ferris buller as a kid and loving the smiths later. bloody amazing feeling!!
Very underapprieciated band from the 80s.
this music of a film that marked for me, I hope these memories will never run out
love you forever Dream Academy..
i am 14 years old and this song is the best thing i have ever heard in my life. save ferris.
Well then that means you are a kindred spirit and a very special person for all the ages. :)
a great piece of music when the smiths did it and a great piece of music in this version = Morrisey and Marr = genius which will stay with us forever
OMG......great cover of this song!!
Oboe elevates this to the sublime
In parts it reminds me of a beautiful Ennio Morricone soundtrack.
That synthesizer is an E-mu Emulator II. Same one Ferris Bueller used to create the sound effects of being sick while on the phone with his friends.
Rocking the oboe. Play it sister.
Beautiful version.
Always in love with The Smiths and had never heard this one before: it's soooooooo good - I knew it from Ferris Bueller's. Great indeed!
Up to now, I've only heard the acoustic version from Ferris Buellers Day Off. After hearing the words, I am torn as to whether John Hughes was wise in not including the words. I know the original was written long before the film, but still, the lyrics perfectly sum up the character of Cameron, who was starved for affection from his parents, and never got to do what he wanted. I've seen the film since seeing this video, and I can't help but view his character as being more tragic and sympathetic
He’s us
shoulda used The Smiths
He knew…. That’s what made John Hughes so special.
perfection
THE 80's music are priceless
wow ! brilliant just brilliant
Love this song...
Heartbreakingly beautiful
What an incredible cover!
the oboe sounds so beautiful i cant
Beautifull beautifull song!!!
These lyrics really speak to me. Please let me get what I want. Lord knows it would be the first time.
I dont think it makes a diff both versions are great john hughes and his brilliant mind of film making will never be duplicated all gis movies will stand the test of time. R.I.P JOHN HUGHES
I agree with this sentiment, and it does flesh out Cameron's character. However, this scene as filmed with a second focus on Ferris and GF is also uplifting, romantic and moving. Without the lyrics, it works for all three characters.
@Renagade1325 Born in '67. Graduated High School in 19 .. 19 .. 1985. Heard the instrumental of this in Ferris Bueller's Day Off back in the day. Heard this version with vocals for the first time just now. So you're 24 years younger than me and still beat me to it! This is a great version of the song, I wish I heard it much sooner.
Beautiful 👌
Fantastic
So dreamy
Great production bought this way back in 1984 i think...THE BEST COVER.
Epic cover!
Exquisite
beautiful, beautiful...
Simply Beautiful
Both versions are on a Dream Academy fan club release called 3 steps to heaven, it's a collection of non album tracks.
Wow, quite beautiful song.
nossa que versão linda dessa musica!!!
THANKS BY YOUR ART.
Sounds great!
Lindo, Perfeito!
Love the dream academy
Really like this version
Just so great. The harmonies after the 2minute mark make me wonder how Morrissey might have sounded with some female harmonies.
MGK BOSTON Morrissey claimed this was his favorite cover of this song
MGK BOSTON Hyuck! Yuck! I think ol' Morrissey had more than his share of female hormones...if that's what you're getting at.
Finally found it. This song gives a lot of Nostalgia. Loved it in Ferris.
pretty freakin' tough call to out-morrissey the man himself but here we are
thanks so much - i thought was alone
just 100 percent awesome
the best version.
Vocally the original is more emotional, it has more feeling... but instrumentally I think this one has more emotion... weird how that works out.
Música espetacular, som incrível!
I love the Smith's version, as well as this. (:
A great cover from a great 80's band!
I love this song!
This is my favorite remake of a Smiths song. Morrissey would be proud!!!
Nice cover!
song gives me that creative boost i need
Little do you know, I put my children to sleep to this over 100 times in 2018.. musical version.
Kate's playing and voice are sublime.
The album she did with Roger Eno - the familiar - one of the loveliest pieces out there for KSJ fans.
Fantastic....what a song! Great taste. 😊
pretty damn good cover, the added length is really nice
This doesn't have to be your life, Cameron... *sniff*
bela lembrança, bons tempos. save ferris.
Shiner Dan says this song rocks!!!
I have to say this is an outstanding cover, one of the best ever, most cover versions suck.
I never did know what the art gallery theme from Ferris Bueller's Day Off was called.
But the wardrobe and setting screams Hogwart's School of Wizardry Band Department, Class of 1988.
Qué bonita canción! What a beautiful song!
me encantaaaa
Okay. I just dug through Amazon. There's a twentieth-anniversary edition of the "Ferris" soundtrack but no other editions available and no way to get a listing of the songs. A customer comment claims that the "Ferris" soundtrack was NEVER released due to contractual disagreements and anything sold as such is a bootleg. The song by the Smiths (Morrissey) IS on the end of the "Pretty in Pink" soundtrack. So make of that what you will.
Só lembro do "curtindo a vida adoidado" ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The familiar is a great album- Bill Nelson also plays some beautiful guitar on that album but the whole album is really gorgeous start to finish. a great album to relax to...
The Smiths released it as a b-side single in "84. Dream Academy didn't play it first.
This was a great choice John Hughes the director, made to have this soundtrack for "Ferris Bullers Day Off"
I've always liked the Smiths version, but it never made me bawl the way this one does.
When I saw "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" I knew this was a Smiths song right away.
what does it want?
i like the oboe.
Love this version, but I think my little one has adopted this as one of his theme songs.
nice!!!someone did a great version,in a film called this is england,also
I still like the instrumental version of this version of this song, BUT - instrumental or not, this still beats the hell out of Morrissey's original! :D
The Dream Academy was just so good...I always thought of them as being gentle, quiet, wise people, possibly living in those Northern Towns they sang of, seeing the world through the young eyes of old souls and translating what they saw into music.
I loved them, and I still do.
A instrumental é muito melhor linda demais sou de 78 e assisti muito esse filme na sessão da tarde cena do museu!
Like a dream...
💞
Fucking lovely song...OMG lol it nearly got me crying ...personal sadness reasons though , not cuz am a girl lol ;)
TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNE
I see your point, but I felt he chose the instrumental version, to not focus the scene JUST to Cameron, even though the scene is his crucial to his character. It allows the scene to be about the fun and discovery about the art (Ferris and Samone) rather than just Cameron's internal battle. Either or, a great track with or without lyrics and complements the youthful, curiosity of discovering a fine museum.
