I'm in my Indian Summer years at 81 yrs old. Brings tears as I reflect on life and the years that can't come again. Such beautiful music from the Dream Acadamy.
I'm a little behind you...sitting at 58...and while I couldn't begin to compare my life experiences to yours, I continuously find myself thinking more and more about who I am and how I got to be who I am. Something I think the current generation can't even fathom as most of them think their entire life revolves around how many clicks and likes they can garner on their various social media accounts, along with trying to desperately capture a moment or two on their phone instead of *living* in the moment and creating a memory for themselves to remember as the years go by.
Chris, Wish I could get to know you. I am a man going on 74, no regrets in my life, but I still reflect on everything, especially beautiful music. You would be very interesting to talk with.
At 54, every year I wonder how many more Springtimes I'll be lucky to experience. Two weeks I met up with my old school friends, we hadn't talked for 10 years or so. So many names from my past are no longer with us, many never made it to their 30's. It was so sad finding out sad stories about people I grew up with. You are looking very healthy, and I wouldn't put you anywhere near your 80's, must be lugging a heavy lens around, I know as my joy is a 500/4 🙂 Take care 👍
@Lawrence Goldfox yeah, same Fauci 🤡 that said HIV would mutate and run rampant thru the heterosexual population is now the Joker that is heading up the CCP virus response. Follow the $$$$
Can’t believe my luck: I corresponded over the last couple of days with the singer, Nick, and to my surprise learned that the filming location of this video was not in the UK, but in Hyannis Port, MA! This video and music has always captivated me. It’s amazing to be able to correspond with the key person responsible for making this gem.
Funny - I just watched the video and my first thought was that location shots didn’t look like the Europe to me! The only part that had me thinking was in the final scenes where the little “Euro sports car” had me thinking I might be wrong……???
I think this video really captures the lyrics and melody well. It's as if John Hughes himself had something to do with it. Summer fading to fall, a dining room table fading from good friends together to a lonely and empty room; definitely a work of art. Sure thought Nick and Kate's reunion a few years ago was awesome. It's said we can never go home again but thankfully the memories remain.
Eureka!!! Mystery solved. In the 80's, I saw part of this video. LOVED the song! Never heard it or saw it again and it was lost to me. Just stumbled on it on here. Downloaded and cherishing! It's as beautiful as I remember.
I worked for the Warner Bros. label Reprise and we worked really hard on this record. It was my favorite act. For a while. We just could not crack this thing open the way it deserved.
Just an amazing and beautiful group...in an age of crazy, frenetic (but really diverse and great music), they stood out pretty much alone with this sound....SO underrated
This song makes me cry - not out of sadness but out of happiness... remembering my time in Athens, GA. No those days will never come again, but we can remember them.
May I add that growing up, I wasn’t allowed to listen to the radio. The. Dream Academy’s music was some of the first popular music I was privileged to hear when I started college, and I consider myself blessed. Thank you, Dream Academy!
I worked at a boarding school through the 2000's and I lived next to the students next door. I introduced one of them to all three Dream Academy albums, which she really enjoyed. A few months later, she drops a CD off on my desk and says, 'I think you should listen to this guy, he's sounds a LOT like Dream Academy...' I said I would, but it was after her graduation and well over a year before I put Nick Drake's 'Five Leaves Left' into my CD player. I was STUNNED - this was recorded in 1969! Suddenly, I had to hear everything that guy did - and if you look him up online, you'll find that he was the true inspiration for the D.A., with 'Life in a Northern Town' being their elegy to him. He has inspired quite a few other melancholia artists - some I've listed below. I never got a chance to thank her. But it showed how closed minded I'd gotten in my old age - I waited a year to even give it a chance. SHAMEFUL! Lesson learned. If she reads this: THANKS! So I thought maybe Nick Drake had pretty much invented the style... Until I got the Drake box set and heard his MOTHER'S piano recordings. Unbelievable! 😮 Also recommended in this genre: Parallel Lions - Holding Patterns / More electronic, but wonderful. I discovered them here: ruclips.net/video/WI9W_VdV1l0/видео.html Beck - Morning Phase and Sea Change The Believers (Gilbert Gabriel's solo project) - Angels and Fools The Ocean Blue - My favorite being: Cerulean and pretty much anything by Duncan Sheik - love his self-titled album
The lead singer admits to being influenced by Nick drake. Look up “ dream academy interview”. If you love this band ( like I do) you’ll really enjoy seeing them in the height of their career.
Brilliant video that allows us to reflect on our youth (how we wish we was). Beside that the band is clever by “Indian” equals “in-the-end” (so obvious). I fear we’ll not see this exalted level of song writing with our current wordsmiths.
One of the very best bands to come out of the 80's, check out Kate St.John's beautiful song " Indescribable Night " from a solo album she put out, its awesome !
Kate St. John's lush, haunting yet subtle oboe performances turned these songs into timeless legends. This album, like Tapestries, illustrated past, present and future in beautiful jewel-tone melodies and lyrics.
We played this on 1490 AM WTCS Fairmont back in the late 80's. For an AM station, we played a very eclectic mix of music, everything from British tracks like this to American album rock!
_Remembrance Days_ still remains a favorite album of mine. Songs like "Indian Summer", "Humdrum", "Power to Believe" & "Hampstead Girl" are all very close to me... Overlooked brilliance... 💎

Just heard this song for the first time and immediately loved it. I had never heard any other songs by Dream Academy except Life in a Northern Town; now I'm motivated to check out their other songs. Great use of pedal point in this song: in the chorus. the bass (and the backing vocals) stays constant while the chords change on top, giving the music a strong sense of driving momentum.
I did not fully appreciate this song when it came out, but my god the memories it stirs up now. Summer loves were the absolute best. This song was, is and will always be... perfect
So poetic and pure...time is reflection...and this song always brings me back to the late 70s out in the Hamptons and its after Labor Day...melancholy but grateful...🌼🍂🍁🌻🌼🍂🍁🌻
I wish I have a place like the one featured in this video! I actually have never seen any of the videos from Remembrance Days and A Different Kind of Weather... this video is lovely and really is how I would imagine the song would be visually...
Hard to believe they were a 1-hit wonder after penning so many lovely songs. Here's another that takes me back to early autumn of '87. Left school a few months earlier and enjoyed a summer never to be forgotten and as the colder days approached, this song kept me warm. I remember seeing the vid on the Chart Show on ch 4 and then hearing it as a potential chart-breaker on Radio 1 just before the top 40 was presented one sunday evening by Bruno; alas the track never even got close to making it.
Never a one hit wonder to me. I love every song on every record! Had a huge crush on Nick. Sooo good looking and that voice! Love their lyrics and the music. All very talented!
This is my "when I get my blood pressure taken" song... not kidding! I love it... it's everything that an escape from realiity should be - new friends and on the coast = To our young years!!

The backing vocals, almost a drone, really, give this piece an hypnotic effect. It is noteworthy that U2 also penned a song titled "Indian Summer" with a background drone or chant that is reminiscent of Native Americans. Very effective, imho. The fine harmonies just add to this very well written song; a true gem from a Wonderful decade.

Thunders & hypnotic native american ("Indian") chants blending with the lyrics... When that part starts, the song become into a sensorial experience.
