While Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) and his father, David Banner (Nick Nolte), are being held by the military, David reveals his inner monster.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Ang Lee directs the live-action feature film The Hulk, based on the Marvel comic book created by Stan Lee and illustrated by Jack Kirby. Emotionally stunted Dr. Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) is part of a research team at the University of California at Berkeley. Corporate hustler Glenn Talbot (Josh Lucas) takes notice of the lab and makes plans to take it over. Then Bruce accidentally gets hit by an experimental ray and grows into a huge beast, destroying the lab in the process. A creepy janitor who claims to be his real father, Dr. David Banner (Nick Nolte), starts to secretly use the experimental ray on himself. He creates some mutant dogs and sends them after Bruce's lab mate and ex-girlfriend Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly). After Bruce saves her life in the form of the Hulk, she lets her distant father, General Ross (Sam Elliott), take him to an abandoned army base in the desert. However, Glenn Talbot takes over the operation and wants to patent the creature's superpowers for his own profit, so he holds Bruce unconscious in an isolation tank. When provoked, Bruce turns into the Hulk and makes a break for San Francisco, leading to a desert chase sequence involving military aircraft, tanks, and bombs. Only the sight of Betty can make him turn back to his human form. When he is eventually captured, Dr. David Banner shows up for a final confrontation with his son and his old adversary, General Ross.

Absorbing Man’s design was so badass. The CGI of him standing over hulk while being comprised of electricity is awesome

This Hulk film will always hold the most depth Emotionally in comparison to the others- it’s so rooted in observing Bruce’s traumas.
The movie used to make me feel “uncomfortable(?)” or maybe “strange(?)” at times when I was a kid. I’m not sure but I still an odd feeling thinking about it.

Its probably the most artsy movie ever done by marvel.
The way this movie tackles how childhood trauma and repressed memories affects adult life is something you wouldn't expect from a marvel movie, and its done really well.

A lot of people hate those comicbook style panels in the movie. I think is pretty unique and awesome imho. Loved this part of the movie btw.

Honestly, if they made this movie now it would probably blow MCU's hulk out of the water. Showing the Hulk as a manifestation of all the rage Bruce had to push down growing up is a way better plot than just an angry green guy.

1:53 small detail you can barely notice but when the obsorbing man starts taking Bruce's power you can see him turn grey for a sec there, I'm guessing that's a nod to original comic look before they changed it to green.

Never underestimate an old man that can bite off the protecting layer of a cable that big.
Between the directing, writing, and the acting between Nolte, Connelly and Bana, I'm surprised this film didn't get more awards. This scene and the one he confronts Connelly in this house are examples of some of the best acting I've ever seen.

I remember this Hulk movie. I watched it on DVD in 2004. I did find this movie to be underrated and I still don't have any issues with this film.
Very cool concept when they're flying through the clouds. It's almost like you're reading a comic book in the movie by getting those singular frames

ANGEL If I’m remembering it right, supposedly dislike for it was based in general lack of knowledge of what the hell people were walking into. Sure, it says “Hulk” in the title and there was probably a cartoon and comic (or a few) at the time, but also at the time live action ‘superhero’ stuff had a particular amount of camp to them. Doing as many scenes as they did emulating comic format (with thirds of the screen at a time cutting to a close-up of something the audience might not have been paying enough attention to get the first time) probably didn’t help.
When I saw that guy bite the wire I was like "Stupid ol' bastard".

I saw this pretty young, just started high school. I didn't get a lot of it and I wasn't emotionally matured enough to enjoy more nuanced film directing attempts. I don't laud it as some sort of missed masterpiece, but I do think a lot of phenomenal parts were forgotten because of the whole. Even as a kid who didn't connect with it, this final fight scene was captivating and I remembered the lightning cloud portion 20 years later in my mind, and came and looked it up again.
Nick Nolte as David Banner/Absorbing Man in this scene is brilliant.

Man the cgi was phenomenal! Especially when hulk was in the water tank and breaks it! I really liked the movie when I was a kid and so still have it on dvd. But now it’s okay but it’s not trash but the thing is that I don’t like that they put comic book pages in the movie, it felt kinda weird and goofy. But hey, if that was the idea of the director then it’s great because he was doing a superhero movie of his own ideas unlike other movie company!

Hulk (2003) is the most underrated movie in MCU. This version of hulk is very powerful compared with today's version. The story is also natural and simple. If this version squared off Thanos, the mad titan might lose even if he already acquired the power stone. The more angrier he is, the bigger he becomes. To top it all he even goes toe-to-toe with his father in lightning form.
This movie is not in the MCU and no this hulk would still get ads seemed by Thanos
This movie had the coolest soundtrack and atmosphere.
