Props for having the courage to lay it out there for us to learn. Really useful for me as a high handicapper
Thank you. It's not easy being on camera especially for a higher handicapper like Brent. Appreciate your comment and glad we can help.
this is the type of comment we need to have more. this humble man put himself out there for us to view, takes stones to do so
Watching his session made me feel like it was myself hitting those clubs. It was so relatable. Great video!!
Thanks! What did you end up getting?
I am still playing my TaylorMade Sim Max Irons, but if I upgraded it would be Cobra or the Mizunos just like his top two. 😎.
Oh nice. Ya I'm sure you'd be happy with either.
I don't think it's best to delete the 'worst' shot based on if it's in the water or not. I would've gone for the furtherest off centre personally. The water isn't always going to be there, but your dispersion will always be there.
Exactly. Especially since the shot deemed the "best' was because it was closest to the center line.
That swing is something else I'll say that.
I found it ironic that he didn't like the look of the Wilsons, because I didn't like looking at that swing.
Yeah! I couldn't watch the swing. Not trying to be insulting, it was just hard to watch.
@@larryharperjr yeah seriously, you know this guy is a brand princess because what he said about the wilsons didn't make any sense, he prefers game improvement irons, but it too thin for him, but then the back is too bulky. I don't get it. Would have been better if he hid the back of the club so you couldn't tell which was which.
@MywOoRefresh the cool thing about opinions is that they are a lot like ass holes. Everyone has one 😉
I like his swing, it's free flowing through the ball. Also, why are all you experts watching videos for med- high handicappers if you're so good?
just found this channel yesterday...as a high handicapper I have been binge watching...great channel!
One of the best relatable videos I've seen. As the majority of the golfers are high handicappers, like myself, I appreciated Brent's courage to do this. Would love to see him try the Budget clubs, too. Example: Takomo, Kirkland, etc. Which for the average recreational golfer is even more relatable. Great Job. Subscribed.
Thank you. Planning to do a direct to consumer iron video soon. Just waiting on the clubs.
Very relatable video of a true weekend golfer testing clubs. Keep it up
Loved this and big props to Brent for stepping up. Was great to see a relatable player. Maybe helpful for me as well...considering new clubs but am (finally) going to take a few lessons before going thru a fitting.
Subscribed! Best, most relatable review I've watched yet. Brent is The People's Champ.
I've been runing Cobra Forged Tec Blacks on AMT Tour White S300 Black Onyx. I have never been more happy with a set of irons in my life. Plus the murdered out look is just a thing of beauty.
Great job in bringing in a real weekend golfer unfortunately it's like seeing my self out there😅 great job guys
As someone in the market for new irons this is a fantastic session to learn how to review and understand data. Thanks for sharing. Great to see a high handicap player being a part of a real life example that we can relate to. New sub today
Thanks for the feedback. Which irons are you most excited to hit?
The Cobra and Mizuno@@NewNineGolf having a slower swing and play on a technical course having the forgiveness is very important. Cost is also a huge factor for my first serious set of clubs for someone getting back into the game after years.
Thanks, a really nice video and especially using a high handicapper like Brent for testing game improvement irons - far more realistic for that genre of iron. Now in my super senior years I need a bit more help and I am thinking of getting a fitting for the ZX4s which Brent felt they looked a bit small, but as I currently play JPX919s forged irons I think they might be a good match as I don't like chunky clubs. Look forward to future videos.
This guy at New Nine Golf makes great content! This is what the masses want. People are excited about golf and want quality products but don’t have the time and money to play everyday, try out new clubs, get fittings, etc. so my dude is serving the people lol test ‘em all! Let’s go to the numbers lol
🙏🏻
Probably one of the most entertaining club reviews I’ve seen yet. Love that he’s a high handicapper, versus some semi pro telling me what I should buy. Nice job guys.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. 🍻
Man, kudos for stepping in and doing this session.
As someone looking for improvement irons, this is a great idea.
Great video, fun to watch. He doesn't need new irons, M4's are just fine, my boy needs lessons. However, my mantra is "when in doubt, buy new equipment".
Great work, would love more of this content!
Thanks Austin. 🍻
Really good video and great idea!! Can't wait for the rest to drop
I bought the Aerojet clubs 3 weeks ago, based on other reviews and the looks of them.I got a Great price on them as well! looking forward to next season ⛳️
Nice! Ya they're great clubs especially for the price now. Thanks for watching. 🍻
Loved the video bc it really helped to understand the numbers
A great video far more realistic for us high handicappers
I’m a bogey golfer and I found this to be a great video with really good commentary! I am in the market for new irons (still playing my TaylorMade R7 irons I got 17 years ago). What helped most was the explanation of the process and data.
Thank you. Appreciate it. Glad I can help. 🙏
Had to look at the name and make sure I didn’t make this comment cause I too am a bogey golfer playing R7s lol. Told myself if I e we break 80 I’ll get new.
@@dustinwalden7091I’ve been trying out a bunch of different irons. For me I saw an increase in distance and efficiency. For example my r7 7 iron will carry 168 yds with a 1.34 smash factor. Where as something like the Ping G430s, I was carrying a 7 iron 192 yds with a 1.48 smash factor. It all sounds nice, but the result is a huge yardage gap between where the irons end and wedges begin. Ping does have a retro set that weakens the lofts. I just don’t know if it’s enough. Maybe I’ll just need to carry extra wedges. The one thing that surprises me the most is I saw no improvement in accuracy over the r7s with anything I tested.
Good work Brent! Looking forward to playing with you again next season at CH!!
I have a high handicap, and went for my first fitting. My favorite was the srixon zx4's that I'm putting in an order for. Thanks for these video's
Good choice. Enjoy your new irons. Thanks for watching. 🍻
Definitely liked you bringing on the high handicapper.
I enjoyed the testing,,,but I just bought Ping G430irons graphite,,,,love them,,each to his own,,,,
Keep on Testing,,,, USA old Nam Veteran,,,,,thank you so much,,,,,
Thank you. Ping makes great clubs. Enjoy your new sticks. All the best. 🇺🇸 🍻
Off those numbers it has got to be the JPX 923 HL. Great spin, great angle of descent solid carry and least roll 👌
First of all I'd like to say this was one of the best fitting sessions I've seen for the simple fact the golfer was like me, better actually from the scores he says he has. I'd like to see a follow u with the top 2 with shaft changes, loft, lie and length analysis.
Maybe hitting on a hole makes sense for a low hdcp golfer but overall and especially with a high handicapper I would suggest using the driving range simulation. You're after the shot, not affects of sand or water or trees. Its about the numbers. It would be similar to choosing a sea side course with a lot of wind to judge ball flight characteristics.
I went through a very similar fitting with many of the same irons, my top 2 were the Paradym and JPX 923. I ended up getting the JPX 923 Hot Metal with the UST Graphite shaft and have been thrilled with my improvement both in distance and accuracy!
Great video. Love seeing these head to head comparisons with mid handicappers
It's easy to make fun of some random person's swing, but the reality is we all started somewhere. I've been very recently humbled by an old swing video of mine from late 2022, so at least he was willing to put it out on the internet.
Fitting is hard with a swing like this that creates more opportunity for inconsistency, but I think it's also helpful to see how having the right club/shaft combo can help with that while you improve the swing.
A ball fitting would be beneficial for most people as well. I would love to see that in some future videos for different handicaps/skill levels.
OMG dude you found my clone, Brent, to do the game improvement iron fitting. Finally, a mid-high handicapper that I can relate to instead of a scratch golfer hitting the game improvement irons. By the way, I watched the video where you reviewed the game improvement irons and at the end of the video you said you would be bringing in a mid-high handicapper to also review the irons. I watch a crap load of RUclips golf videos and this video ranks in my Top 5. Plus, I pushed the subscribe and like buttons after watching it today. One must never forget that the mid-high handicappers far outnumber the low-scratch handicappers. And we mid-high golfers are more prone to drink the Kool-Aid if we think it will trim strokes off our game on a continual basis.
Appreciate the feedback. Thanks for the sub. Cheers!
And drink a lot of beer, haha!
Love that you used an actual mod to high handicapper to test the same type of iron. Makes it much more relatable. Well done.
Only thing I wonder is how fatigue effected his hit with the later club or how warming up effected his early clubs.
This really opened my eyes to the Cobra and helped solidify my interest in Mizuno. Wish you didn’t use the HL version though.
Great video.
Thank you! Ya I think the fatigue definitely played a factor. I think he took that into consideration in the rankings.
Cant go wrong with either the cobras or the Mizunos. The HM and the HM high launch are pretty similar except obviously one launches higher. Haha. I hit the regular Hot Metal in my other video if you haven't watched it already. ruclips.net/video/AMlB59bVIAI/видео.htmlsi=k2BnH6NoCy1RHLXV
As a fellow quick over swinger, this was very relatable, except that I would have passed out from exhaustion about halfway through.
Nah, I'm used to hitting 90 to 100 shots. Haha! I could've done 10 clubs and 10 shots each, no problem.
I went with Brent and got a set of Aerojets. So far so good. Thanks guys!
really enjoyed this one
Best rew in a long time om youtube. A normale player testing irons. Its so nice to see someone normal test them 😁
Great choice for this video
As a 27 handicapper I LOVE my Callaway irons. Since I bought them last year I’ve taken about 8 strokes off my average, they’re very forgiving and they feel really good
That's awesome. Congrats!
24 handicapper here, did you get fitted ?
@@JoeSmith-gp5dm I did not

What a great review!
Great video, need more of these types of videos
Thank you. High handicap driver video coming. 🫡
Excellent video!
I play the G425, I also hit it left during the fitting but once you get used to it you will be able to make changes and hit greens.
The look of the Srixxon at address, for a game improvement iron, is just... 🤤
Don't pay for new clubs. Pay for Lessons, that swing is all over the place.
Yeah i have an ugly swing , that still is semi normal looking …this poor guy is a symphony of corrections throughout the swing , by the looks of it…..good on him putting it out there for us trolls to pick at .
I needed to hear this
I went with the Srixon ZX4 MKIIs got fitted and love them. Good luck playing Augusta National
Great choice! Thank you 👊🏻
Great review!
Thanks! 🙏
great video,.I wanted to try the JPX 923 HM HL, but went with Stealth HD's. Would love to see some hybrid options vs 4 - 7 iron.
Thanks! Ya I'll try to get him back in for some hybrid options. Enjoy your new clubs.
Congrats to this chap for being part of the video. My suggestion would be he take some lessons to fix his swing rather than new clubs. Such things as swings too fast, dips at takeaway, has an ‘arm swing’ , pulls away at impact etc etc
Glad you had a really world golf test the game improvement irons. From what I saw it was look and feel more than data. Most of the data was very similar
Ya looks and feel definitely was a bigger factor for him. I do think he did make the right choice with the cobra though for his game as it was more accurate, landed softer and was farther.. Thanks for watching.
Very cool to watch this video! I should have watched it when it came out, but it just popped up for me - I'd have been interested to try some of these myself. I just bought the Ping G425 last month; I also bought a new putter, so I decided going with the second latest in tech was OK, and left me with the money for the putter. I'm a 17 handicap so I felt all of this. I'd been playing stiff shafts, but at 56 years old, I figured it was time for me to give that up. My swing isn't nearly as strong as Brent's. Used to be, but no more. My miss has nearly consistently been short and right, so the Ping with the offset head was a good solution for me.
Thanks for watching! Ping makes great clubs. Glad they're working for you. Enjoy! 🍻
It'll be great to see him play a round with you once he has the completed set. See how he does under true game and course conditions. Great video
That was a cool test session , really enjoyed that !
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. 🍻
Great video 👍 some good options there
Thanks Tim. 🍻
sobering and relatable. same money for new clubs vs lessons, and it seems like lessons is the way to go for a mid-high handicap.
I would recommend both if it's within budget. Or at least go for a fitting. Sometimes it might be just an adjustment or a change in shafts.
my mishits are left, because i use more power and its easier to swing out to in. When I need accuracy its in to out and does a nice fade but loses alot of yardage. When everything comes togather! yardage is 5 yards less than the power misses but straight, Its good to see avg players come in and test these clubs!!! Amazing video hats off to you guys(channel)!
Great video. Brent did a great job. Very good review of clubs
Thank you! 🙏
Great content as usual your videos are up there with the best of them. Would love to be apart of the next fitting i am a 9hcp. Cheers and merry Christmas
Thanks Tanner. Appreciate it. I will definitely keep you in mind. I thought about doing something like that with one of our subscribers. Will take some planning. 🍻 Merry Christmas to you as well.
I'm about the same skill level as Brent. I recently upgraded from TM r7s to Cobra tec X. I really love them!
Great video, enjoyed it!
Awesome. Cobra forged tecs are nice. Enjoy. Thanks for watching. 🍻
Finally a channel that brings the appropriate category of player in to test these irons. I’m tired of pros testing game improvement irons.
I gotchu 👊🏻
Nice experiment, but the best thing for Brent, would be some serious lessons, that was a huge left/right variable, which needs sorting ASAP. Best of luck Brent.
He's getting lessons through the winter. 🤞 we see some improvement. 🍻
I'm a big Cleveland cbx zipcore wedge fan, and am looking forward to the new cbx zipcore xl irons. Really hoping they blend with the wedges. Have you seen them yet? Cheers
I’m a 21 handicapper myself my 135yard approach game is good. Great putting. If my driver shows up I can break 90 but typically shoot mid to low 90s. With my irons I end up left side of the fairway when off Centre and almost never see the right side. I got fitted last year from my 93’ golden eye pings to Titleist T-200s. I wanted to love the stealths or hot metals but the ping G430 were actually my best but too pricey. I wish the new t350s came out by then bc I would had went with those but the 2022s were so ugly I couldn’t. Might need to swap out the 7-4 irons to 350s this year.
That was great
Thank you. 🙏
I had a similar session at club champion and went with the Mizuno jpx923 hl. I'm 71 and don't have the club head dpeed to launch the ball and desired stopping power.
The Mizunos are great clubs. Glad you found something that works for you. ⛳🏌️♂️
Sold my Mizuno Hot Metal and got the Cobra Areojet and they are Awsome Long and soft ,Forged Face !
Ya they're great clubs! ⛳🏌️
Thanks! excellent for us hackers!!
Well done Brent hope you find the best irons for you. Would be good to see the same test in a different order outside on the grass.
Not a bad idea. Will have to wait a few months tho. It's winter here and snow on the ground. 😥
It would've been interesting to see him the normal Paradyms instead of the X's (which are draw biased iirc and would tend to pull hard left for him). I've tried one and it's so much nicer to hit than my Lynx Predators that i'm getting a fitting next week... really excited!
Got fitted for Cobra Forged Tec X, but would love to see a comparison with these before I pull the trigger!
Those look nice. I actually dont know where they fit in. Maybe in line with the p790s. So between the Aerojet and the Forged Tec or King Tours. Let me see what i can do when I'm back at Modern Golf in the new year. Maybe do a players distance iron comparison along with some of these. Cheers
Hey man new to the channel, really good content helping me a lot with my decision on which clubs to get. Just one question I’m really wondering questions around what are some of your favorite shafts. A lot of companies offer a multitude of different brands and types. Going for a stiff feel and just wondering what brands and shafts you can’t go wrong with. Hopefully some of the options will be free on the websites(multitude of them are). Thank you man!
The only shaft I suggest for you is the one you get fit for 🤷♂️ Sorry that’s probably not the answer you were looking for but it’s the only right answer.
Nice to have a high handicapper rating clubs, as many YT reviewers ratings dont translate to the higher handicapper, as this example just showed with a very different ranking.
One point I would make in pulling out the worst shot, I would do it by absolute deviation from the center line, not based upon a simulated water location on a particular hole and leaving in a shot with worse dispersion just because one happened to get lucky on that hole and hit it so far off line that you were actually wide of the water on that particular hole. Because the goal is to hit the ball straight according to a target line, and so the deviation should be based on distance from the center, regardless of the trouble left or right on that particular simulated hole. Hitting left of the water would be your worst shot on most holes, but you just got lucky on that particular hole that the hit was so bad it was left of the water. So, it should be measured in general terms, with the farther from the center line, the worse the shot.
Totally agree and I changed my worst formula in my next video on player irons.
Great video. It’s funny cos I went in to test out some clubs and I was hitting Mizuno Pro 225’s better than the JPX Hot Metal Pro’s and now I like players distance more than game improvement because of feel and dispersion and I’m a high handicapper
Thanks! Ya it's funny that way. Just gotta find what works for ya. 🍻
That was a lot of fun😂
You should try the top three irons with different shafts to see how they effect his dispersion
Ya will have to get him back for a fitting.
Yes! That's what my fitter did, narrowed it down to 2 and then played with shafts.
Brent showed a lot of heart in putting his swing on YT. I know there were a few negative comments about his swing, I hope Brent ignores them. As long as Brent is enjoying his golf, I do not care how his swing looks.
In order to improve the video I would suggest include the lofts of each of the clubs. Hopefully there is another video where Brent gets fitted for shafts for both the Cobra and Mizuno and lets see which club comes out on top.
Definitely, most people dont realize how hard it is to swing when the cameras are on. Haha.
Good suggestion, I usually try to include the lofts in my other videos. Missed it in this one for some reason. I'll try to get Brent back on for a fitting.
Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers
I love my Cobras!
For the last year or so, I was playing the Cleveland Launcher XL Halos. Probably in the running for the ugliest clubs ever made, but I don't by clubs for their looks, and their forgiveness is amazing. They helped me make massive improvements in my iron play, so much that I decided it was time to level up and just got fitted into a set of Srixon ZX5's. I definitely think the Halos are a great choice for a beginning golfer to make the game more fun while working on fundamentals.
Thanks for the high handicapper testing of these GI clubs.
Can I ask what flex shaft was he using for the various sessions?
No problem. Thanks for watching. Stiff shaft.
I'll add to the compliments here, really nice to see a review with an average Joe golfer who is looking to get into the 80s consistently. I did an iron fitting last year and Aerojet was my favorite. Then i picked up a set last month for $720. So far it's been quite an adjustment with my bad hits still going very far (compared to used ping i20s)
You've earned a sub from me.
Thank you! Appreciate it. What a great deal. Enjoy your new sticks. ⛳🏌️♂️
Great video I definitely relate but I’d rather get lessons from my cousin, then later buy irons when I can consistently hit fairways. Definitely was already thinking Titleist T300’s.
Loved this vid, Ignoring all the noise in comments. I’m very similar to this guy as far as problems I have and the way I swing and I think this might’ve really narrowed down my choices for my next iron set
Thank you! Glad we could help. What you thinking of getting?
Wilson D9's rock. love them
Same, I've got them as well and those actually encouraged me to fill my bag with WS. Also carry a 5W and Driver, both are great clubs.
@@nickbrenne2159 I game callaway rogue woods 2018
@@nickbrenne2159 I tried their hybrid, didnt like the feel. Stayed with my 2018 rogue woods
@moedark4390 that's fair. I'm personally not a big fan of hybrids, so I don't carry any. The D9s are just so damn hittable even outside of the center of that face that they almost feel like what hitting a hybrid feels like.
Would have loved to see the standard 923 HM’s in his hands too, as I think they’d maybe suit more. They launch nice and high too, and the extra offset on the HL version may not have suited his swing as much.
Curious how long your friend has been playing for, if you could get him to have a more controlled slower take away with a semi pause near the top he would get a more consistent swing, he does hit it pretty far for a high handy cap. 👍👍
He's been playing for just over 2 years. He's actually taking lessons over the winter so I'm going to leave the tips to his coach. Thanks for watching and the comment. 🍻
@@NewNineGolf As a golf coach, and golfer of 28 years, I can tell you that is the proper reply and it is refreshing to see. ❤
👊🏻
Honestly, selfishly, I would prefer to keep him the way he is to be more consistent on the high handicap point of view for club selection.
Great video!!! Love a good Canadian accent!!
Thanks! 🇨🇦
@NewNineGolf great video as always your content is up there with the best of them I would love to go through a fitting with you one day I am a 9hcp and live about 10hrs away from Calgary 👊🍻 keep up the great work
I have a set of Srixon mkii ZX4's...I like them very much but I would like the launch the ball higher and have less roll out. I would like to have all clubs adjusted with 2 degrees of stronger lofts. Good idea or should I bite the bullet and buy a set of player irons (ZX5 or 7's)?
You can try bending them 2 degrees weak and see? Your bounce will also change tho so if your consistent enough. Zx5 might not be a bad idea. I'd suggest getting fitting or at least testing them out first. Good luck. ⛳🏌️♂️
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I love the video and the relatability. I think Brent could use lessons and a sizing session. My gut tells me the shaft lengths are too long for him, it looked to me like he was up on his toes trying to make good contact.
M4's are not bad irons. I came back to the game in 2020 after a 15 year layoff and started back with some used TOUR BURNERS. AGE DIFFERENCE BTWN PLAYING was 42 to 57. Speed and back are not the same as before, so for the first time in life, I took two lessons, driver and irons. Got to a 16 HCP and got fitted for TaylorMade SIM2 MAX OS, VENTUS 6 65G shafts, midsize grips.
Now, Im at a 10 HCP and I LIVE IT!!! Not buying clubs again till these are wore out. I live in PINEHURST and I play ALL OVER. AVG is about an 81.
This guy has incredible clubhead speed, but before he buys clubs, he should get a lesson on stance and swing. It would definitely help him before he buys any clubs.
That's awesome you for fitted for clubs you love and that work! I agree and he's actually starting to get lessons right now. Thanks for watching and your comment. 🍻
I’ve got a fitting at GOLFTEC and using only 7-P of the Ping G430 regular launch with senior graphite shafts. I am 68 and need every advantage . They gave me 10 yards plus great consistency. I really liked the looks of the JPX but didn’t hit it as good. To each their own I’d say.
Golftec is great. I'm glad you found something that works. Ya exactly, everyone is different.
Funny I did a quick and dirty fitting over the summer and ended up picking the Cobras over the T350 after swinging 6-7 different clubs.
Love these fitting videos!
My 2 cents, i would remove the shot that's furthest from the center line for the statistical analysis... The fake water shouldn't effect the math..
Ping, I use Ping i25 and are great...can't go wrong with Titleist just look of anything more than 150s is too blocky
Is a stiff shaft right for his club speed? Just asking as ive just been fitted for wilson d9 forged irons with a similar club speed, i had a 180 on my good swings but apparently stiff shaft is for 85mph+
It depends on the shaft. My guess is he's probably between a regular and a stiff and could probably benefit from a regular or a lighter one to get his spin up. But he does have an aggressive transition though so I'm kinda interested to get him in for a fitting to see. 🍻
Boy…im relieved to know what He thinks of the looks. Very informative…i think.
(Most) golfers pick up clubs they like looking at.
Great video
I hope you hit m long n straight
You get tired, I totally get that. This is a big influence in your fitting. I think you should do this over a few days
Maybe another session with the Cobra vs Mizuno head to head.
