As a museum employee I can confirm that some people treat objects like that.
As a previous museum employee i had to continuously suppress the urge to smack children touching, hitting or climbing on the irreplaceable exhibits.

@@scurus11scurus What do you mean? If you are asking why genuine articles are displayed rather than reproductions, the answers would be multiple.
Where better to put items of interest than a museum where people can observe them, they shouldn't necessarily be left rot in storage. This way they can be professionally maintained but also displayed.
The idea of going to see the genuine items is also much more appealing to the public and draws in more customers for the museums, which may help either their funding or goal of wider entertainment and education. Otherwise they could just google a picture of the item.
If however, your question is more philosophical, dwelling on the nature of perception and reality it probably would not be best answered in a RUclips comment section.
