Great song that rocks. When I was 13 and this album came out around 1973, kids including myself, were a lot more naive back then. I remember reading the lyrics in the album liner notes and going….”what???”. I guess you could say it was educational because it was my first lesson at that age of what a lesbian is, having likely never heard of it or the term up till then! 😂
Elton John was THE MAN back in the seventies. He was all over the radio stations and could do no wrong. He could command all our emotions with so many different styles and sounds he was a musical genius. Check out Philadelphia Freedom and The Bitch is Back for another glimpse of his chameleon abilities
Eltons best period in Rock N Roll in my opinion. From songs to costumes and awesome performances. Love his 70s period with Bernie Taupin. Incredible seeing him live then.
It was quite an experience seeing him perform this live. Imagine 20,000 fans singing the chorus, complete with the WOOOO's. He would kick the piano stool out behind him, sit on the floor while STILL banging on the piano. An AMAZING performer who I was BLESSED to see 13X live.😀😀😀😀
Davey is STILL playing guitar with Elton. He was great when I saw themabout10 years ago in Quebec. He plays banjo, mandolin, pedal steel - whatever the song / genre calls for. So versatile.
Elton has a lot of incredible piano/singer delicate, moving, great songs. I love the rocking Elton. He has a great band and he always takes the song to a higher level.
One of my favorite EJ songs ever! The other one is "Funeral For A Friend" the guitar and band in general is just off the chains on both of these and also on "Bitch Is Back".
I remember a friend had an extra ticket to an Elton concert. I reluctantly helped him out by going thinking "this is going to be boring". Easily one of the best concerts I ever seen! Everyone knew every word to every song he played! He did some really soulful versions of his more commercial stuff that made you rethink everything you thought of his radio stuff. Awesome talent.
In 1975 i saw EJ perform in Buffalo, NY at a general admission concert. I stood up against the stage and my ears rang for a week. Fantastic show. One of the greatest live performers ever. I was into heavier music at the time but Eltons talent is undeniable. I was really glad I went to the show.
In the 70's he would end his concert with this song as an encore! It would go on forever and ever! Everyone would drop from exhaustion when it was over! He was and the most amazing performer I have ever seen live!
Lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin. It was about his youth in the dance halls of England. Taupin wrote all of the lyrics for Elton John until he retired. Elton John's music has suffered ever since Taupin left. Elton John's band was top notch. Davey Johnstone stands out here on lead guitar.
"Nobody plays like him!" - you got it in one boys! You are starting to realise the diversity in just one album. Think back to Funeral; Goodbye; Bennie; Candle; and compare it with Saturday. You can imagine the extended call and response with a live audience towards the end of the song, plus Elton going wild on the piano! Yeah, Davey Johnstone rocked out on this one.
I was a kid when this came out and we would bounce on the bed absolutely rocking out to this one. One of the great guitar riffs and that machine gun drumming. Perfection.
The theme of this song accurately reflects the Friday/Saturday night situation in England in the 70s (maybe still the case). Guys with no women would together in a pub until 11pm when pubs were forced to close then. With a belly full of beer they would head for a club/disco hunting for women. Usually the men outnumbered the women so fights often broke out inside or outside the club. Elton was just writing what was going on.
Great song! He closed his show in the 70's at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, he had the entire place singing and rocking till he left the stage...I will never forget that night!🎉
I wasn't really into Elton until 1976 when I was camping in Florence Italy and stayed up late to listen to Radio Luxemburg. It was a live show with Elton listening to and commenting on his hit songs. Much respect since then.
"Get about as oiled as a diesel train" says it all...drinking, fighting...a great song by an icon..outstanding album...takes me back to Dodger Stadium in 1975...loved your reaction, I ALWAYS learn something!
One of his very best rockers, huge hit and we partied to this on many Saturday Nights back then. Can't wait until you hear Everyone Loves Alice from this awesome album, enjoy! 🎵🎹🎤🎸🎶
From my age cohort, this would be on everyone's top 5 Elton songs. Even kids who were not particularly into Elton loved this song. Completely recognizable from first 3 drum beats before the Gibson Les Paul slams in. We all can name this song in 3 drum beats. :)
I was around 10 years old in the mid 70’s when my older sister would let me listen to her records in her room…this being one I listened to over and over. Anything from this album makes me think of that time in life. A few years later in 77, she took me to a Kiss concert as a Xmas gift and got us seats about a dozen rows from the stage….many years later I found that entire show on RUclips (Kiss at Capital Centre, Landover MD)
There are certain acts that blow you away every time you see them live, like AC/DC, Tina Turner and Billy Joel....and Elton John, I've been lucky enough to see him in concert 7 times and he never lets you down.
Back in the day Elton was my favorite artist. This was my favorite song and I love when he starts the concert with this one. Too bad it didn't get more airplay. I have the album logo of this song tattooed on my forearm.
As fans of The Who, you might enjoy checking out the cover of this that they did for an Elton tribute album. It's good. This song sounds like something Pete might have written...Probably the most guitar driven song Elton had...
Elton apparently recorded his piano parts after the band laid down their recorded parts plus he recorded his vocals whilst lying on the floor on his back!
his best album of all,,i saw him at the forum the month he released caribou....was awesome. off the top of my head thru the haze n fog that was the 70's i saw elton, chicago, doobies, war, marving gaye.ewf, tower of power,emotions....and a few others i know i'm missing. GOOD TIMES.
Have you already received your Christmas present? 🤣Or is it a picture of a madman? I love your reactions, you guys are the best. It drives me crazy how Elton ends phrases in an English accent. Has anyone noticed? You hear that in Hercules, in Elderberry wine, and in Sutterdy night
One of the best songs on this album is a deep cut called All the young girls love Alice. It's a bit of a rocker like this one, but the story in the lyrics make it very interesting.
I bought this when it was released when I was 13. Still his best. Not every song was a hit but lots were. And no weak tracks. I am so familiar with it now, it sounds like a greatest hits double LP to me.
This entire Yellow Brick Road album is so eclectic in it's various styles (like the Beatles White Album) and is arguably one of the Top 10 greatest albums ever produced, not counting Beatles albums (along with Madman Across The Water). You could easily react to every song on this album and I hope that you guys do.💯 Every single song on this album, like with Madman, are all uniquely reaction worthy! This album truly epitomizes what you said...Elton John can do EVERYTHING!
Bernie was satirizing lower class British thugs. My first concert was Elton touring behind this hit and album. You can imagine the crowd reaction when he played this. The analogy with Jerry Lee Lewis is accurate, and probably intentional.
In December of 1975 I went to his concert at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. He came out in a yellow chicken costume. As soon as he started playing a big fight erupted right in front of the stage. He told them to stop and that he had a song later in the program about fighting!!
Love this album, packed with great music.💖 But the 1 positioned directly over your shoulders, my fav.👍🏽 I caught the live (fr BBC) of the title track, just Dee, Nigel and Elton. Sublime!🤩
You should check out another iconic English group called Slade. So many incredible tracks and their absolute forte (like Elton and Electric Light Orchestra) is genius melodies.
Guys, you've got to try his album "Captain Fantastic & The Brown Dirt Cowboy" some time. Sublime stuff! More complex, with strings, etc. Just a beautiful album. It's different from his other material. Btw, he's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. The album's a kind of autobiographical account of their early musical career.
One of EJ’s most rockin’ and fun tune. The WHO covered this song on a tribute album to Elton and Bernie called Two Rooms. It has some great cover songs on it. You guys would love checking it out!
Love you guys. Songs I know you will love; or at least have to hear for your cultural education. American Pie. Don McLean. A special classic of classics. Gimme Shelter. Rolling Stones Something Beatles Rock ‘n Roll. Led Zeppelin Satisfaction. Rolling Stones In case you haven’t yet. So many songs……..but these are a start.
In 1991, like now, the world was on edge about a horrible war in the middle east: The Persian Gulf war. The U.S. and its allies had finished the air war phase, and everyone was trying to predict when the ground war would begin. One weekend I walked into a restaurnat called "European Cafe" to work my shift, and one of my co-workers said "Just heard it: The ground war's started." "I KNEW it!" I said, "I figured they'd go in on Saturday night because of the Elton John song!" Later I heard troops had indeed blasted this tune as they rolled ahead.
Nigel Olsen gave that hi-hat a workout!
All the Girls Love Alice best song on this album. Elton John is incredible!!!!🎶🎼🎸🎵
That is my favorite song on the Album 😊
Great song that rocks. When I was 13 and this album came out around 1973, kids including myself, were a lot more naive back then. I remember reading the lyrics in the album liner notes and going….”what???”. I guess you could say it was educational because it was my first lesson at that age of what a lesbian is, having likely never heard of it or the term up till then! 😂
That is my favorite song also. That was the the first song I learned how to play on guitar many many years ago. Davey in my mind is so over looked. ❤
Killer cut, can't wait for them to hear it.
Yes this is a great song but tbh I don't think that there is a bad song on this album
In an entire album filled with incredible songs, this is one of the standouts.
Absolutely! For me, Boston Garden 1974.
SO ENVIOUS!!! OMG - WOULD'VE LOVED to have seen him, at LEAST: JUST ONCE!!! Such a GREAT ENTERTAINER and EVERY SONG: PERFECTION!! ❤❤❤
If that ain't Rock and Roll, then nothing is!!!
Hell Yeah
The best of the short list of Elton’s upbeat rock songs in my opinion! Had to be a show stopper live 😊
Saw him in '76. This song and Pinball Wizard were the encore.
Elton's band was one of the tightest bands of the seventies.
The Elton John Band were tighter that a tick. Saw them live in 1972 and haven't seen better yet. Davy Johnstone is a Master.
Davey is STILL playing guitar with Elton. He was great when I saw themabout10 years ago in Quebec. He plays banjo, mandolin, pedal steel - whatever the song / genre calls for. So versatile.
Yep and he looks mahvelous. lol Still the best.
He is an unsung hero in much of Elton's music.
You can close your eyes and throw a dart at any of these early Elton songs and you'll hit greatness EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!
Can’t wait to watch this one should be good love you
I would also pay close attention to the bass guitar line and that drumming. This just came together on all levels to be a total banger.
Takes me back to the 70’s as a kid rocking out!
As always great musical knowledge guys.. a great wee tune.
Elton has a lot of incredible piano/singer delicate, moving, great songs. I love the rocking Elton. He has a great band and he always takes the song to a higher level.
Davey Johnston really shines on this one, such an under appreciated Guitarist! GREAT Song, part of the sound track of my youth!
Big radio hit from 1973.
My favorite song that summer.
If I ever need a smile on my face, i watch one of your video! Thanks fellas
In the 70's he would end his concert with this song as an encore! It would go on forever and ever! Everyone would drop from exhaustion when it was over! He was and the most amazing performer I have ever seen live!
Elton and George Michael singing “Don’t let the Sun go down on me” one of the best you’ve ever heard. Best of the best!!!
The Who did a kick ass cover of this back in the 90’s for an Elton John Tribute album- lots of other great acts covering Elton John
This one brings back a shitload of great memories.
This record turned 50 (yikes 😬) years old on October 5th, 2023 and it still kicks @$$ today! Nice review as always gentlemen take care 🙂
Fantastic song, so much fun to isten to. Anyone else remember the Flotsam and Jetsam cover? lol, probably not.
Bernie Taupin lyricist and Elton John vocals and keyboards made an unbeatable pair. Bernie wrote all the lyrics and Elton rocked the rest!!!!!!
Top class double album , not a bad track .. Top top draw and still as good today as it was when released in the 70,s ….Top Top class ❤❤❤
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
What great lyrics from Bernie Taupin. Song is full of great lines.
I was a kid when this came out and we would bounce on the bed absolutely rocking out to this one. One of the great guitar riffs and that machine gun drumming. Perfection.
a staple of his live set and always one for audience participation - Davey's guitar is immense !!
As is Dee's bass

Lyrics are actually by Bernie Taupin. Elton contributed the music
Glad to see your channel react to my all time Elton John Rocker. Glad to see he snuck in this original to his collection of hits
The entire album is great. I haven't listened to it in a while. I'm going to go play it now!
Great song! He closed his show in the 70's at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, he had the entire place singing and rocking till he left the stage...I will never forget that night!🎉
This, The Bitch is Back, and Love Lies Bleeding are my favorite Elton Rockers!
❤🔥❤️
It's an incredible album full of bangers
Can’t go wrong with Elton ❤
I wasn't really into Elton until 1976 when I was camping in Florence Italy and stayed up late to listen to Radio Luxemburg. It was a live show with Elton listening to and commenting on his hit songs. Much respect since then.
This our theme song on my high school football team 1974 great memories with this album.
Elton John in concert was one of the very best ever
THE ENCORE WHEN I SAW HIM. EVERYBODY HAD A LIGHT.
"Get about as oiled as a diesel train" says it all...drinking, fighting...a great song by an icon..outstanding album...takes me back to Dodger Stadium in 1975...loved your reaction, I ALWAYS learn something!
If you want an Elton song that rocks, try “Grow Some Funk of Your Own” on the Rock of the Westies album
Dancing instead of fighting. 😂 I concur! Always loved this rocking tune. Thanks for the always spot on reaction fellas.
That’s a good night to get it done. Haha Heard this song a million times and never thought of it like that. Carry on.
One of his very best rockers, huge hit and we partied to this on many Saturday Nights back then. Can't wait until you hear Everyone Loves Alice from this awesome album, enjoy! 🎵🎹🎤🎸🎶
All the Girls Love Alice is KILLER!
❤❤❤ this album. Social Disease and All The Young Girls Love Alice. Also Harmony.
From my age cohort, this would be on everyone's top 5 Elton songs. Even kids who were not particularly into Elton loved this song. Completely recognizable from first 3 drum beats before the Gibson Les Paul slams in. We all can name this song in 3 drum beats. :)
The whole album is great. He shows all genres on this album from country to ballads to rockers.
Thanks for playing early-Elton. If you want some heavy rocking from this album, play the song "All The Young Girls Love Alice"
I was around 10 years old in the mid 70’s when my older sister would let me listen to her records in her room…this being one I listened to over and over. Anything from this album makes me think of that time in life.

This song has caused many a speeding ticket since it's release! 😂
I got this when it came out and played it in my great-sounding Ranger VHS(?) player while driving around in my junky car.
Back in the day Elton was my favorite artist. This was my favorite song and
I love when he starts the concert with this one.
Too bad it didn't get more airplay.
I have the album logo of this song tattooed on my forearm.
My favourite Elton track and by God there’s a few🎸🎤🥁🎹🎼
Elton likes to remind everyone that piano is a percussion instrument!!!
Honky cat should be next lol
This song had me at the music store enquiring about electric guitars. That riff tore my guts out and rearranged 'em.
OH YEAHHHH, BACK TO GOODBYE!!! 👍😊
This was my favorite song when I was 8 or 9 years old (back in 1975 or 1976). It’s still a grading. This album is pure musical magic.
Saw him in 1973. This was the encore. Party
Love this dance tune. We use to do long giddy up dance prance much like on Soul Train. The best of days
This album launched EJ into superstardom, along with the single Philadelphia Freedom
Listen to "Tickin'", "I've Seen The Saucers" or "Crocodile Rock"
his best album of all,,i saw him at the forum the month he released caribou....was awesome. off the top of my head thru the haze n fog that was the 70's i saw elton, chicago, doobies, war, marving gaye.ewf, tower of power,emotions....and a few others i know i'm missing. GOOD TIMES.

That song is 50 yrs old guys. It’s still a banger.
Great live song too.
This song and crocodile rock are his 2 most rocking songs by far!
HAD TO HEAR IT GUYS!!! 😊
One of the best songs on this album is a deep cut called All the young girls love Alice. It's a bit of a rocker like this one, but the story in the lyrics make it very interesting.

Great song . Great reaction fellas! Appreciate you 🙏 ❤
Dave Stewart on lead guitar. Dave later played with Annie Lennox in the Eurythmics.
Davey Johnstone played lead guitar. Not Dave Stewart from Eurythmics.
@@edwardcapobianco2975 I saw Stewart playing with Elton on a tv concert. Got confused.
@@robertprice6830Dave Stewart was in a group called Longdancer when they were the first group signed to the Rocket Records label.
@@robertprice6830 oh I got ya. Stewart is a good guitarist. I saw him jam with Ringo all star band a few times.
In December of 1975 I went to his concert at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. He came out in a yellow chicken costume. As soon as he started playing a big fight erupted right in front of the stage. He told them to stop and that he had a song later in the program about fighting!!
Great tune 😊
Love this album, packed with great music.💖
But the 1 positioned directly over your shoulders, my fav.👍🏽
I caught the live (fr BBC) of the title track, just Dee, Nigel and Elton. Sublime!🤩
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a masterpiece
All The Young Girls Love Alice is my fave on this album and The Ballad of Danny Bailey.
Elton and Bernie wrote many of their songs targeting the US market, but wrote this specifically tied to home - the UK
You should check out another iconic English group called Slade. So many incredible tracks and their absolute forte (like Elton and Electric Light Orchestra) is genius melodies.

Great song. This is a Saturday night karaoke 🎤 fav for me. Elton let's it rip
One of EJ’s most rockin’ and fun tune. The WHO covered this song on a tribute album to Elton and Bernie called Two Rooms. It has some great cover songs on it. You guys would love checking it out!
Love you guys discovering the music of my youth. May I suggest Lou Reed’s Rock n Roll Animal
intro and Sweet Jane.
Another great Elton song that doesn't get enough love is Take Me to the Pilot from his second album
Great song, great reaction! You should check out Bennie and the Jets by Elton. 🤘
Love you guys.
Songs I know you will love; or at least have to hear for your cultural education.
American Pie. Don McLean. A special classic of classics.
Gimme Shelter. Rolling Stones
Something Beatles
Rock ‘n Roll. Led Zeppelin
Satisfaction. Rolling Stones
In case you haven’t yet.
So many songs……..but these are a start.
