This Album - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - was recorded in just 2 weeks ... Insane
How come we know elite producers like Alan Parsons or Glyn Johns, but no one discusses Gus Dudgeon? Get a decent pressing from his Elton albums on the turntable, and it's a sound experience. And that band!
These songs are my very earliest memories of music. My mother getting dressed to have friends over for dinner.. these records playing in the background. One song that really speaks to me lately is The Border Song. It’s on his first greatest hits album - although it’s not a song that gets much attention anymore - but it really should because it’s more relevant than ever. You really should hear or consider reacting to that one. Thank you for such great reactions. Subscribed! 😊
Saw Elton at Dodger Stadium in LA this past November on his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour. It was his last ever weekend performing in the USA. Amazing concert! Definitely a bucket list item to see him live and so glad we did.
My mom’s first concert at 17 this song played at her service and I am still trying to concert connect with her her, by seeing him live!
I was 7 in 1975. This song was everywhere
Elton John's music is definitely woven into the fabric of every decade of my life...
👊
Same. From 1970 to present..
Yeah, he was one of my mom’s favorites, i’m always moved when i hear him.
Good reaction…try “Philadelphia Freedom” or “Saturday Night’s Alright” both bangers.
Lots of masterpieces written by Elton and Bernie. IMHO
Is it just me, or does so much of Elton’s 70’s music feel “large”? Fills a room, fills a heart, like a steamrolling wave of smooth sound covering you ❤.
YES! That's exactly what it does. Beautiful.
An underrated gym that i have to thank American Idol for introducing this to me 20+ ys ago❤
HARMONY was my favorite song off this album.
Elton John was a child prodigy. He is an adult one too. 🤘🤩
You guys are on the money once again! His band really never gets the accolades and recognition it truly deserves! They’ve been with him for many many years!❤
Love y’all’s reactions! Y’all really know what you’re talking about! Quickly becoming my favorite reactors.❤️🤘🏻
What can I say? This is another gem from Bernie and Elton. I absolutely love this song. Thank you for seeing that. ❤
I started the video and put my phone down. As soon as the vocals started, I began singing along and picked the phone back up. 😂
Every song on that album is a banger... His finest hour.
Elton John sang the soundtrack for my life. Only The Who came close to doing the same, but I grew out of them. Elton grew with me.
Born in 61 - Elton was the soundtrack to my youth, Bu-bu-bu-benny and the jets started it.
"THAT'S WHY THE CALL IT THE BLUES"....!
Levon is another good one to listen to. There are so many hits. You will find Elton is a very versatile singer.
Elton and Taupin, the best of the best, so many iconic songs, including this one. Thankfully I grew up in the 70s with all of this on the radio, so lucky.
Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirty Cowboy
Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Someone Save My Life Tonight
Border Song
This is my favorite song of his. Thanks for listening.
Jerry Cantrel from "Alice in Chains" said he was his #1 Influence was Elton John. That and being in the choir in High School singing Gregorian chants.. You can really hear both influences in songs like Angry Chair or I Stay Away SO Elton John..
Thanks to react to this old music. Zeppelin, Elton, etc. This is the music of my life and his so exciting, an emotional, to see young people, young musicians, to listen this pure and real good music, and made don't forget it
HUGE hit for Elton! Thanks for your reaction.
love your channel guys!!
Sir Elton is simply one of the Rock Greats, I love Captain Fantastic and Honky Chateau
One of my favorites. I'm 63 and feel like I grew up on Sir Elton.
…….you guys are the best reactors on RUclips !!! Keep on, keeping on 🔥❤️💪🏾
This is one of my favorites songs... Elton is a genius.
Saw him at the Cotton Bowl promoting this album. Led the night with Funeral for a Friend. Excellent concert and bought the album the next day.
you have to hear my 2 Favs after Benie and the jet rocket Man and crocodile rock
One of the best concerts I ever attended. He was such an entertainer too. Great fun! Ahhh...to be young again. ❤
My favorite song of his.
Davey Johnstone, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson were members of the band and all contributed background vocals and harmonies on the album.
Dude he was an absolute showman in his day😮
Nigel Olsson is the best minimalist drummer ever. Nothing flashy or fancy, but if you listen it fits the song perfect. Every fn time!!
Elton and his band were FIRE! This entire album is a masterpiece.
Elton and his writing partner Bernie Taupin combined for some of the most passionate and introspective songs ever!
this is one of those songs where you could ask 100 people what it's about and get 100 different answers.
ambiguous lyrics are fun. it's like a puzzle for the listener.
There's a documentary about making this album. Elton often left the backing vocals to Dee bassist, Davey guitarist and Nigel drummee to arrange and record.
My step father was a lead guitarist in a country western band. We listened to both kinds of music in our house...COUNTY and WESTERN. I was maybe 8 years old when I heard Don McClean's American Pie and I was 10 years old when I first heard Elton sing Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Those were the first hints I got that there might be some other kind of music out there than what was played in our house.
Question. Do you guys even know how to make a bad reaction video? Cuz I watch a lot of your videos when they come out and I can't recall a bad one.
One of a handful of his songs I like.
I grew up listening to all this kinda music with my parents and my brother and sister...it reminds me of simpler times and now my mom is gone and dad isnt well...when i hear it, it makes me think about going back to those days, but u cant...beautiful song, but very personal to me...thanks for reacting to it...
Every song on this album is excellent. There were some very seedy topics in the lyrics of some, way before their time!
Felt like a warm hug! 🫂 tysm 🥰
Elton's regular bandmates at the time (Dee Murray - bass, Nigel Olsson - drums, Davey Johnstone - guitar) pretty much all sang background vocals, and they all had great voices.
Entire album is a masterpiece.
Elton is Elton
Actually, he is Reginald lol
So...many years ago I was having a crisis in my life that I won't of course go into here, but it was of such profundity that most people probably would have cried at least once within the first two days after it happened. It took me five or so, lol, and it was listening to THIS song that cracked the ice for me, and a-sobbing I went! Special place in my heart ever since then, heh. Thanks, Elton! Glad you guys appreciate this brilliant, powerful piece as well!
The dynamic duo of Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Masters! I was only 1 when this came out ,but definitely one of my faves.
Elton John 1969-1972 is pretty special.
All the Girls love Alice. E.J. has been with me since I was a young girl. I spent hours learning every verse of every song he had. I saw him one time on Halloween. What a show!!!!✌️🎸🎶🎼🎵
Great song and I'm an old guy who has loved that song for 40 years.
Elton's band during his period between Honky Chateau and Captain Fantastic were superb musicians that also provided examplary backing vocals
Elton John was my favorite growing up in the 70's
I remember seeing him doing this album in Sydney Australia in 74, Randwick Racecourse, absolutely brilliant concert
This whole “monster” album was a staple of the Classic Era. Multiple radio friendly hits rolled off this one. As two reactioners who appreciate well engineered albums, if you listen to the entire LP, you’ll agree this was one of the best for it’s time. 👈😎
"Monster" ?
@@cattbutt7758 It wasn’t? That album was ubiquitous for yrs on FM radio. Was one of his best selling albums of the decade.
David Hentschel - ARP synthesizer (1, 12)
Davey Johnstone - acoustic guitar, electric guitar, Leslie guitar, slide guitar, steel guitar, banjo, backing vocals (1, 2, 4, 10, 13, 17)
Dee Murray - bass guitar, backing vocals (1, 2, 4, 10, 13, 17)
Nigel Olsson - drums, congas, tambourine, backing vocals (1, 2, 4, 10, 13, 17), car effects (12)
Ray Cooper - tambourine (12)
Del Newman - orchestral arrangements (4, 8-10, 15, 17)
David Katz - orchestra contractor (4, 8-10, 15, 17)
Leroy Gómez - saxophone solo (16)
Kiki Dee - backing vocals (12)
Bernie Taupin writes incredible lyrics. And he’s not even in the band. How Elton puts music to those words is the genius with those great musicians playing those songs. The production from Gus Dudgeon is a masterpiece.
@@Irockthere4 They were more than great musicians. The band (Nigel, Dee, Davey) created the parts of the songs for their own instruments (with no input from anyone, including Elton), and wrote and created the backing vocals. Bernie doesn't get enough credit, but the band more or less gets none, which is a shame.
A great record. One of the best albums ever recorded!
Somebody Saved My Life Tonight. It gets overlooked sometimes. Elton said in a recent concert that I was at, “Somebody Saved my Life is me favorite song that I have written.”
The band with Eltons music, and Bernies lyrics, painted incredible pictures. The three guys in his band, would layer the backing vocals, after the basic tracks were done. Elton would let them decide on how to do it, and they were incredible. Such talent
My personal favorite is blessed from the 90s
An all around excellent song…lyrics, the band and Elton are top notch and hitting on all cylinders in this song. You guys have hit it on the head again! Thank you for your insight again! Great reaction as usual…
Loved the reaction guys, keep up the great work. If you guys want some more Elton try "Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting! I think you guys will appreciate that song. Peace out guys! 💯👍🔥🎸🇺🇸😎
Huge hit and a killer, rocker of a song, has been on classic rock radio forever, always in rotation. They will listen to this album when travelling through the stars!
One of the greatest melodies ever written
My favorite Elton John song!
The lyrics and their emotional delivery in much of Elton's music are every bit as important as the music.
The combination of lyrics, delivery and musicianship are simply fantastic.
You guys always make me hear things in songs that I never paid attention to before. Even though I have heard these songs hundred's of times over the years.
Thank you to my sister Cathy you were the best the cool big sister!!!!!
This was the song of my teenage years
You guys are great. I've been watching your channel for a while and your commentary is spot on. You clearly have knowledge about the music industry and your comments are insightful.
You guys are incredible at explaining what I've been listening to my whole life. I never thought much about the studio craftsmanship put into these old songs growing up, but the way you both find all the layers and why it works in each song, put new joy in my listening again to these classics. Thank you. Great reactions.
In my top 5 Albums. Along with Sticky Fingers, Dark Side of the Moon , Houses of the Holy, and Aja.
THEY ALLLLLLL SANG IN THOSE EARLY DAYS, THAT 70'S DECADE 😊BUT YEAH, MAINLY ( DEE, DAVEY AND NIGEL ) WERE THE BACKUP VOCALS AND SANG DIFFERENT PARTS IN SONGS, INCREDIBLY GOOD! 💯😊
THIS MUSIC AND SOUND IS CRAZYYYY GOOD, I LOVE THAT!!! 😊AND YESSSS ELTON HAD BIG SOUNDS ALWAYS AND HIS PIANO STOOD OUT OVER EVERYTHING WHICH IS ANOTHER THING THAT WAS UNIQUE ABOUT HIM LAH AND CHE! 👍LOVE THE SLAMMING OF THOSE KEYS ALWAYS! ❤😊HAVE A GR88888 WEEKEND YOU GUYS!
Great reaction to not only a first rate pop gem of a single, but to a masterwork of an album. The breadth of topics explored lyrically and musically make this one an all-time favorite of mine. Much credit must be given to Elton and the band, but also to Gus Dudgeon, who produced nearly all of Elton’s 70s albums.
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is Sir Elton's best work, IMVHO. Every song he and Bernie Taupin wrote is excellent, and his band is in unparalled territory.
Leon Russell was a huge influence on Elton. "Tight Rope", "A Song For You" and "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Leon himself among many. One of the best piano players and session players there was. Bob Dylan's song My Own Version of You .. "I'm gonna make you play the piano like Leon Russell, like Liberace, like John the Apostle.."
Love this song
Beautiful tune.
The drum work is amazing
This is a top 5 album for me. This album is so great. You’d enjoy a side at a time review through the rest of the album.
It’s that great an album.
Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album by Elton is a masterpiece.
Waiting for this one can’t wait to watch love you guys
BROS, I was very fortunate to see Elton "live" in the St. Paul Civic Center. His concert was one of the most memorable times of my life. Friends I'd made there and I rushed to the front of the stage.
In an interview Elton was asked how long does it take him to compose the music for one of his songs, and he replied "oh sumthin around 10 or so minutes". As a very young boy Elton was admitted to London's Royal Academy of Music to study piano. ( Comparable to the Juilliard School of Music).
Please react to "Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters"; and also from Goodbye Yellow Brick, "All the Young Girls Love Alice".
THANK YOU!
My favorite lines: "Maybe you'll get a replacement. There's plenty like me to be found. Mongrels, who ain't got a penny, sniffin' for tidbits like you on the ground.
Love that you guys are doing the whole album, so many great songs ahead.
This song and album are a masterpiece. Such a beautiful song that you fall in love with the first time you hear it.
Go Jays !!! ❤️🇨🇦❤️
THANK YOU sooo much for doing the whole album!!!! ❤❤❤
This always reminded me of a Beatles song...
If anyone's interested, the Marc Maron WTF podcast just released an episode where he interviewed Bernie Taupin. I really enjoyed it. After all these years, this was the first time I had ever heard his voice. Obviously he talked a lot about his life with Elton, but there were other topics discussed as well. Definitely worth a listen!
Takes me right back to high school
The arrangements on this and other songs on the album are killer. Arrangements are an often overlooked commodity when critiquing songs. Yet they play such an important role jn how we digest them.
Hi guys, love the reactions! Awesome you’ve discovered Elton John! Work your way through the ‘70s stuff first like you’re doing, but I’d like to see you eventually react to “Too Low For Zero” from the early ‘80s…
This and Bernie and The Jets are tied for the best Elton songs in my opinion.
This entire album is straight up fire!
Great example of Elton's soulfulness/funk is "Amorena" from Tumbleweed Connection album. That whole album is epic. Also, "Take Me to the Pilot" from "17-11-1970" album is soulful AF.
Border Song is another one that pops into my head.
Just another masterpiece! I was lucky enough to see him live in 2014. Out of a 30+ song set, every single one of them was a hit! Not many artists ever could do that.
Great album, great song, great reaction! Like most, if not all, EJ songs this was written by Bernie Taupin. The song is actually about BT wanting give up the crazy life he and EJ were living at the time. He was longing for the simplicity of a rural life and was more comfortable with life on the DL.
