    You REALLY need to check out his rewrite for Princess Diana. He sang it at her funeral, & because they were friends it's just lovely. Diana wasn't afraid to visit people with AIDS, & hold their hand & hug them. And Elton started his AIDS Foundation along with Liz Taylor. Elton heard about Ryan White, a young boy with hemophilia who got AIDS from a blood factor that patients use to stop bleeding.
    Ryan was targeted by EXTRAORDINARILY IGNORANT PEOPLE & they were fighting to keep him out of school.
    Elton befriended the family, & really helped them a good deal. Once Ryan died, he decided he needed to get his act together and do something! That's when he decided on the AIDS Foundation.
    You can watch the movie "The Ryan White Story", and it shows the horrific prejudice he experienced due to stupidity.

    Bernie Taupin, who wrote all the lyrics for Elton for most of the first chunk of Elton's career (Elton wrote the music), rewrote this for Princess Diana's funeral. The recorded singke was and may still be the biggest selling single ever.

    • @mr.beaverchair3622
      @mr.beaverchair3622 Год назад +5

      Bernie didn't just write the lyrics for "the first chunk" of Elton's career, he's written the lyrics for every single album from beginning to end.

      @@jpmnewyork Ok, so I checked and there were 2 albums in the late 70s (A Single Man and Victim of Love) to which Bernie did not contribute, and a few after that in which he split writing duties about 50/50 with Gary Osborne, but by 1983 (Too Low for Zero) he was back on board full time and has been Elton's primary lyricist ever since, with the exception of a few movie soundtracks (e.g. The Lion King.) They don't just "periodically get back together." They stopped working together once for one or two years in 1978.

    • @jpmnewyork

      @@mr.beaverchair3622 Ok, I'll grant you that "periodically gotten back together" might be understating it, if you'll grant me that "he's written the lyrics for every single album from beginning to end" is a gross overstatement!

      @mr.beaverchair3622 Год назад +3

      @@jpmnewyork He wrote lyrics on 29 out of 31 albums, and was the only lyricist on 27 of those, which means he's responsible for over 90% of Elton's lyrics. So no, I would not call it a "gross overstatement." I just wasn't aware of his very brief hiatus.

    And what's really crazy is, the double album this is from, with 22 original songs, was written, recorded, and produced in two weeks. Elton and this band were crazy talented and bizarrely quick. In 1975, when Elton and the band went into the studio to create and record their version of 'Pinball Wizard' for the rock opera 'Tommy', they did the whole thing (including backing vocals and overdubs) in less than four hours. That same year Elton released two full albums ('Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy' and 'Rock of the Westies'), both of which debuted at #1. 'Captain Fantastic' was the first album in music history to debut at #1.

The rumors claimed she was killed by someone close to the Kemnedys because she was going to go public with the affairs. Also, she was rumored to be in love with RFK. One of those things we'll never know the real story.

    This album doesn't have a bad song on it. There is a song "The Ballad of Danny Bailey" that is about a 1920's John Dillinger type bank robber....it is a real sleeper - just fire. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics and Elton wrote the music.

But whispers n his ear, and cocaine made him so full of hisself that he fired yDee and Nigel after the Captain Fantastic album in ‘75, shooting hisself in the foot by firing 2/3 of his backup singers too in the drummer and bass player. That band was key to his success. Im beggin you to do the whole album. One of thecgreatest rock records of all time.

    I recommend All the Young Girls Love Alice. It's an odd song for it's time. The lyrics leave nothing to the imagination, and the band rocks out.
