Everyone loved Diana, it didn’t matter race, religion, colour or creed. She was the people’s queen. It’s 2024 and I will forever miss her. God bless her
Even though I'm an American, Diana's life and death touched me deeply. She was my ideal of what a princess is supposed to be. Beautiful inside and out, and with a loving heart. You could see that she wasn't just performing for the cameras. She genuinely cared about others. This was a fitting tribute because Diana really was England's rose.
Coming out of London England , a proud royalist and defender of our monarchy, you I'm afraid find things easier to hate, and I guess it suits your limited intelligence, oh well.
Watch the funeral eulogy, given by her brother Earl Spencer, just after this song at service….. deeply touching and emotional! The applause after both Elton John’s song, and her brothers eulogy, say how much a nation and the world loved and respected her…. 2.5 billion people around the world watched her 5 hour funeral !! I stayed up all night in the US, to watch….
Im an American and would just like to state that the death of Princess Di had an effect on the whole world. May her gentle heart and soul RIP ☝🕯🕊 🙏 She is STILL missed even now in 2023.
With one hand shake Princess Diana was able to kickstart the end of the stigma & fear against touching people w/ AIDS / HIV. Simply incredible if you ask me.
I watched this on tv. An amazing performance by Elton. Such an emotional performance and he finished it perfectly. I had the pleasure of seeing Princess Diana in London. A memory that lasts forever. Thanks for sharing. 🎉🎉❤❤
I was 12 years old when our beloved Diana was taken from us, and I remember watching this with my mother, and she was inconsolable. God bless our diana, princess of Wales.🇬🇧
Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist) is a genius for coming up with these new lyrics and Elton sang this song beautifully, it was a perfect tribute to Princess Diana.
Elton and Bernie did themselves proud. What an amazing tribute. I was in tears even with the first verse. Diana affected everyone, she was that amazing. I am from India... imagine...! She affected me, for she was indeed a kind lady, and less of a snob.
J' ai eu l' occasion d' assister à tout celà lors des funérailles de Lady Diana . I remember this . j' aimais bien le sérieux apparent de la Princesse et j' aimais aussi beaucoup Elton JOHN . Thank you very much J.J. ..... A+ 💔
Yes Princess Diana was full of compassion, kindness always help a d touchng the sick, she made a big dofference with the landmines, and all that she has done, she will never be forgotton RIP always a princess 🙏🙏🙏😪😪
"Candle In The Wind" was written by Elton John & Bernie Taupin in 1973 in honour of Marilyn Monroe. Elton later used the same melody but changed the lyrics to pay tribute to Princess Diana in 1997. It was changed to "Goodbye England's Rose".
I'm American but grew up in England on military bases. I loved princes Diana as much as any Brit. Her beauty, compassion and grace combined with the difficult circumstances she lived just made her so... Beloved, I don't know how else to put it. Her death was the first time (not the last) that I ever wept heartbroken for someone I didn't personally know. She was England's Rose but a gift to the entire world. 😢❤️❤️❤️
I meet princess Diana when she opened a hospital and as she walked we as children from the local primary school were supposed to lay little bunches of flowers on the ground before her but I decided to hand them directly to her and she took them and said thank you, how lovely, I was about 8yrs old and never seen a real princess and she was.
I bought a cd with just one song on it... this one. Some folks thought it was lame to repurpose a used song... and I can only imagine what he might have written given time.. but there was no time... and changing up the lyrics might seem easy.. but he captured the essence of the loss to the world... with only days to do "HER" justice. and, on a personal note.. thanks for bringing back that memory, because its a bigger memory... I took my mom to many concerts.. but the last one before she passed was Elton... playing three 'small towns' in Alberta Canada. I live in Red Deer... and he played these three small towns to 'work out the bugs', for his then, next world tour. hard to even imagine bugs in the show, since it was just Elton, at the piano.. no band, no singers... just 2 hours of good ol' Elton. My Mom's vision was crap by then, so she couldn't really see his outfits, but unlike when I took her to Pink Floyd.. the Rolling Stones, etc, etc... there was no "show" that she missed... we had 2nd row seats, and the spotlight on him and his piano was enough for her to know she wasn't really 'missing' anything. OK... I've babbled long enough... and I'm crying...👍🏼✌🏼🇨🇦 ...Back for an edit.. you mentioned seeing her in your mind's eye smiling, etc, but not maybe knowing much about her... the lines in the song about placing herself in the world... she was big on and travelled to open the world's eyes to children dealing with land mines, etc. The line "You placed yourself where lives were torn apart"... SHE was what the royalty needed... too bad things got so f*d up, she died running from paparazzi. SIGH.......... (I have a couple, well, a few folks on my list of "Gone TOO soon"... a musician(John Lennon)... an author(Robert A. Hienlien)... and a "Princess"🤔
She was and still is England's rose.she did what she believed in and in millions of people they respected her for that but also a lovely lady and no disrespect to her memory that was no accident.rip di ❤
Princess Diana was a beautiful person inside and out. 🙏♥I am an Elton John fan I watched the funeral . Also the wedding. She requested a patriotic Church Hymn to be sung at her wedding. They also sang it at her funeral. It is called ... Jerusalem. The group ELP recorded Jerusalem and did a fanatic job. HOWEVER it was initially banned from the BBC because "how dare you turn a beloved church hymn into a rock hit." Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Jerusalem .
Cried like a baby when I heard the tragic news. The wall of flowers piled up outside buckingham Palace weighed 10 TONS! I can imagine 10 ton's, but not of flowers that is a LOT of flowers!!
thankyou for your reaction. This is a truly beautiful song to Princess Diana. She was my fave member of the royal family. See’s still missed today. I vividly remember her funeral being broadcast on tv in 1997. Take care 😘🏴😭 RIP Princess Diana
Hi Jo Jean. I know that Princess Diana was a good friend of Elton John and they were involved with each other. This friendship has given depth to this sensitive and beautiful song. I wish Diana was still alive and among us sharing her goodness.
A few interesting facts about this version of the song: 1- it’s the second best selling song of all time, only beaten by White Christmas. 2- the song was #1 on Billboard for 14 weeks, a record he held for over 20 years. 3- he only performed it once, and vowed to only perform it again at the request of Prince William or Prince Harry
It could only take a consummate professional and a dear friend of Diana to pull that off.. no one will ever come close to a tribute like that - not now, not ever! That is the definition of a heart felt tribute to a beautiful friend. God bless you Elton and thank you.
Omg i started balling when George Michaels came into view. He is a legend that was loss way too soon also. Princess Diana was one of the most beautiful people I had ever seen I remember watching her get married to that guy I didn't understand but i was young. Have you ever heard the original he did for Marilyn Monroe that one is just as sad. I have always loved his music
It was no secret that Elton John and Princess Diana were REALLLY GOOD FRIENDS so him performing at her funeral was a no brainer really. She was taken soooo ahead of her time it's simply not fair.
I'm an italian guy. I remember perfectly the day she died. I remember myself listening to the news on television and I was so sorry. And I remember the day of her funeral. I saw it on TV again and I was mesmerized and moved seeing the huge crowd and the commotion on the faces of English people. That was something you very rarely see. I'm not English but I'm still moved by all that.
Ooof, this hit hard. Friday was at a friends funeral who was killed and chopped into pieces by her husband. She was one of the nicest people in the world, only 34yo. Gone too soon.
Princess DI....Died in a car accident.....So sad Loved World Wide.....Princess DI was different, she didnt act like royalty, she was down to earth, the regular citizen could relate to her...England's Queen forever
It's perfectly fine too show sadness cry if you want it's ok to show your emotions during this video for this song it shows you're not a robot but your human.
Uma parte do mundo se foi com ela, pois o que essa moça fez pela humanidade é indiscutivelmente uma coisa extraordinaria, descanse em paz Diana Spencer.( Lady Dy )
I was 14 when sadly we lost Princess Di. She may of been stripped of her royal title but that never meant a thing to the People of Britain. She always will be the People's Princess. Even now as a 40 year old man it still makes me emotional looking back on that day. I just remember the whole country hitting the brakes hard! Instant stand still! We all shed tears over the news of her passing. So so sad as she was finally happy in her life. Elton john loved her dearly and to write this and perform this for the world after his loss must of been so difficult. A beautiful song for a beautiful Princess! Sorry for the story. She was just everything to my country and so loved by all.
Can you imagine performing to the world live at a Royal funeral. My goodness the nerves 😮 She died the same day as Mother Theresa and there was a joke at the time that she lived her life “like a sandal in the bin”. 😂 Just to lighten the mood
the loss of Diana was the most devastating thing to happen to this country since the war, she was a breathe of fresh air against a stuffy old belief! I totally get why Harry feels the way he does.
The unspoken emotion behind all of this is ironically the Spencer family that Diane was from are more "Royal" than the German Interlopers that currently occupy the Throne. She was used as a young Brood Mare by the Saxe-Cobourg Gothas whilst Bonnie Prince of Wales Charlie had his side chick Camilla (now "Queen" 🤮) n the wings hence the anger from the British People not forgotten to this day and personally I have never given a Monkeys about the Royal family but I can see what transpired.
I am not and have never been a royalist but I will always remember losing her, it was like I lost something close to me and I still can't explain why I felt that way to this day still missed by us all
The young Princes' lives were changed forever the night that she died. Harry would have stayed in the UK. Camilla would have never sat the throne. She was only happy around her children and in New York. She loved America.
Don't get too choked up about it. He rewrote the song he made for Marilyn Monroe and stapled Diana's name onto it. And don't be misled into thinking Diana was some great humanitarian. I vividly remember the morning it was announced that she had passed. It was a Sunday morning and the entire country just stopped.
Lady Diana was 100 % pure class.
Kate Middleton can redeem her legacy when she becomes queen.
In my opinion this was Elton's finest hour. I don't know how he kept it together. I watched it live and was crying my eyes out.
Even more he not only knew her they were personal friends. I couldn't even speak under those condition without a shaky voice.
Everyone loved Diana, it didn’t matter race, religion, colour or creed. She was the people’s queen. It’s 2024 and I will forever miss her. God bless her
same mate and Im from Brazil
As a proud 🇬🇧 this was truly a painful time for our entire nation , Diana had a hard time ,how Elton managed to sing this was just un real 💔
This song is a bloody INSULT to the rest of the UK England thus England that
Diana was a narcissist and a whiner. Princess Catherine handles herself with more grace and dignity.
Coming out of London England , a proud royalist and defender of our monarchy, you I'm afraid find things easier to hate, and I guess it suits your limited intelligence, oh well.
Losers…
Is a disgrace the war mongers England monarchy killed her shocking
The biggest live performance of all time, nearly a a billion watching and Elton, even though he was hurting, was absolutely flawless!
I guess you never saw Metallica play in Germany
Watch the funeral eulogy, given by her brother Earl Spencer, just after this song at service….. deeply touching and emotional!

The 2nd Track on the CD, was SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT. My Favourite. 🇦🇺
You are spot on as him and Diana were very good friends. She was absolutely radiant and so very beautiful too. Glad you appreciated it. Xxx
Just think one day we will all be able to spend time with Princess Diana
With one hand shake Princess Diana was able to kickstart the end of the stigma & fear against touching people w/ AIDS / HIV. Simply incredible if you ask me.
I watched this on tv. An amazing performance by Elton. Such an emotional performance and he finished it perfectly. I had the pleasure of seeing Princess Diana in London. A memory that lasts forever. Thanks for sharing. 🎉🎉❤❤
🕯 🕊 Beautiful Soul & agreed a Heart felt tribute 💙
This version has always made me cry 😢. It's hard to believe she's been gone so long.

A special tribute for a very special person. We so need more leaders like her. She was not afraid to bend the rules to help people.

As a Brit I’m glad they called out especially Diana’s Brother with Harry and Me-again Markle trying to act like she was the new Diana
A song that was and insult to Scotland wales and N,Ireland,,,princess of wales supposedly but all we get is englands rose
the loss of Diana was the most devastating thing to happen to this country since the war, she was a breathe of fresh air against a stuffy old belief! I totally get why Harry feels the way he does.
Fun fact. The original lyrics where "a camel in the wind."
I vividly recommend you to react to aerosmith - I don’t wanna miss a thing. I’m sure you will love it very much
Elton promised to never perform this song again, after the Funeral. ❤
When She Died Are School Gave Us A Day Off When Your A Kid We All Thanked Princess Diana
Probably the most emotional and poignant live performance of all time.
Best selling song in Billboard history
100%
Miss you princess...if you saw your sons tearing themselves apart today you must be so angry and sad
she should have been the new queen
Amazing and poignant review, Empress. Thank you.
Sweet women.
The song was not written about princess Diana, it came out nearly 20 years earlier and was written about Marilyn Monroe
The Princess was only happy around her children.
I am not and have never been a royalist but I will always remember losing her, it was like I lost something close to me and I still can't explain why I felt that way to this day still missed by us all
I remember it well heartbreaking
The young Princes' lives were changed forever the night that she died. Harry would have stayed in the UK. Camilla would have never sat the throne. She was only happy around her children and in New York. She loved America.
Listen to WILKI Son of the blue sky
Don't get too choked up about it. He rewrote the song he made for Marilyn Monroe and stapled Diana's name onto it. And don't be misled into thinking Diana was some great humanitarian. Throughout her public presence in life, she would show up to some location where humanitarian effort WAS being made, would stay long enough to do an interview and photo-op, then promptly leave, typically in no more than 8 hours or so. Her cousin Fergie however, has put in DECADES of humanitarian effort in the actual locations, _living there_ in those desperately hard situations, on the frontlines of the areas Diana only briefly visited for those photo-ops. Fergie did the work, hands-on, but because she was deemed unattractive, nobody paid her any interest. Diana was effectively useless throughout her time despite the international media salivating over her every move.
Princess Diana was REAL Royalty...not those vampires.
