dude...imagine having to sing like that every fucking night. We're lucky his gritty voice lasted as long as it did. I still think 1993 was the last year of James best vocal performances. He sang with grit here and there, just more conservatively.

@@dabob878 the only takeaway being that from 96' onward they'd play in Eb tuning live. Which to be fair is surprising James can maintain that without tuning lower nowadays. Hell, Metallica's last two albums were recorded in E standard.

Woah, I can't think of too many Metallica live videos where James' guitar is louder than this. You're basically hearing 95% James here. Even with Kirk boosted on the solo, it's mainly James you hear. It's totally overpowers the vocals and drums....Awesome. It's like you're watching it standing next to his rig :)

They used all boogie back then, probably studio or quads into strategy 500 or 2:90 or whatever. Cool guitar sound but a bit cocked wah 80's here. The mix drowns vocals, drums and bass under the guitar sound.
