- This is gonna be a tough one. I tried to keep it as less-rambly as possible. Apologies if I missed things out, I may have been blinded by this game's awesome. Part 1 of 3 for my little look back at MGS!

I don't know why, but i always love it when Solid Snake says ''Metal Geaarrr''
MONODO BOI!
+GTAModder2014 hugh METAL GEAARR
METAL FUCKING GEAR
Your username is a great pun to the point where it was used in a trophy of Medal Of Honor Frontline's HD remaster... Just sayin'
Derpy guy dank
Mantis was disgusted with my love of harvest moon
oh luls XD
"And Solid Snake's genetic brother..."
So...his brother then.
well they're not brothers in the usual sense, but genitically they are...
Darragh Tate I've played 4, didn't think about that :/
Ahh yes! The "!" sound effect should go alongside the Transformers "transforming" as one of the best sound effects ever made!
We're talking about the G1 sound right?
Homer sams You mean from the 80's? Yeah, that one!
THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE TAKING KIARI'S HEART
lol
Metal Gear Solid was the first game I ever played, and the first game I ever finished, my absolute favorite gaming series, yet somehow you just made me love it more
First usually equals favorite. My favorite game of all time is Pokemon Emerald, but its not the first game ive ever played. My first was Crash Bandicoot 3 ^^
Deathlygunn my first was batman returns on snes
Matthew Walsh Mine was Ms,Pacman or Pole Position on that little box thing thats also a controller and connects to the tv
HOLY CRAP! I'VE FINALLY FOUND SOMEBODY ELSE WHO BEAT MANTIS BY USING THE FIRST CONTROLLER! I can't believe it, I thought I was the only one who didn't know about the second controller thing! I swear, it took me TWENTY BLOODY MINUTES OR SO of facial fisting action to beat that psychomotherfucker, and when I had finally defeated him my brother told me "wait, didn't you know you had to use the second controller?". I felt so fucking dumb. And epic. PLEASE, IF YOU'RE READING THIS, HIGH-FIVE YOUR DAD FOR ME! (i love your show, by the way)
Ilkka Koppanen no if i have to be realistic i dont
Same here. tho I was like... 6 years old when I did it. Nowadays I wouldn't even bother trying it again because its litteraly a waste of time.
I am truly baffled at the fact that caddy doesn't have a lot more people watching his videos and subscribing to him because caddy is really funny and buts a lot of work into his videos in a short time to make them and all his videos are great
P.s caddy review the walking dead
10:17 HEY, I was thinking of that very skit of Dara's while I was watching this! That's pretty funny.
9:55-10:01. Well scripted, Caddicarus. Well scripted.
Well done
The music at the end... Gives me goosebumps every time.
Deepthroat was the codename for the Watergate scandal- so it's not JUST a dirty joke!
He's still smol child in this
Psycho Mantis got us to think not just outside the box, but outside the game. For that, he is my number 1 favorite boss fight.
Even if we hid inside one so we wouldn't be spotted by enemies.
God i love these old videos. Caddy continues to deliver year after year. Going back to these is a breath of fresh air and such a nostalgia shot
Cheers for this series Caddy, I just finished the first game and have started playing the second game because of you and I bloody love 'em! Thank you for introducing me into one of the best game series I have ever played!
Caddicarus, you're the best british reviewer ever!!!
2 words: nerd cubed
what?
Habbax Extreme Wow, thanks a lot, killjoy.
It's the only MGS game to have a french dub.
And it was fucking hilarious.
+Total Random "Ici, c'est moâh qui commaaaandeuuuuh"
+Black INK.I.M XDD "Tu ment ! tes yeux sont ceux d'une bleue ! Plus bleus que le ciel !"
yes, he actually did design it with Lego!
I never realized how brilliantly amazing Caddy's channel is. It's always been there and for some reason, it's taken me until now to binge on this huge wealth of content. This is some inspiring ass channel right here.
That's how we do it in my garden
My dad beat mantis without switching ports as well...
So glad that these games are finslly widely available on modern consoles and pc
The way you described this game was EXACTLY how i felt about it! Blew my mind when i first played these 😳😃
Such an immersing story!
Do a silent hill retrospective
Considering that Jordan Underneath already covered the first three games (and the two movies) in detail on his channel, I think Caddy might not want to do something that's already been done by one of his peers. Personally, I'd rather see a Resident Evil or Fatal Frame retrospective series.
+rockah12 Which is never gonna happen now
+rockah12 fatal frame please make it happen caddi
@@Skull_E_Duggery I know this is years later, but Nitro Rad reviewed every game in that series, even the 3DS spin-off.
How are these videos almost THREE YEARS old?! O_O
Still remember the day when my older brothers were playing the game and I just sat there watching them play, then 2 years later I try it myself. BEST MEMORIES EVER!
Started Playing MGS a week ago and I finished it yesterday, It's one of my favorite games ever!
Now I will play them all
Is is bad that I've never played a Metal Gear Solid game before?
Yes.................maybe..........no........chicken.......dickbutt.
we're in the same place
*Spotted noise*
As soon as Dara O Brein popped up, i said, and i qoute "URMUHGUURDDAROBRIENHOLSHIZICALESCADDYILUVUMAKEMYBABYS"
Love the end theme! I have so much nostalgia for this game!
Caddy has the best edits of anyone on youtube, i am almost in tears
Fallout retrospective
Can you do a Retrospective on Uncharted? Please!?!?!
The Best Is Yet To Come is also probably THE most satisfying end themes to anything ever.
I'm happy I discovered your channel not only did you introduce me to finally play metal gear ( I finished MGS 1 today), but you are also awesome
Ape escape retrospective. Go. Do it. Now.
PYROTEKNIK Mesal Gear!
SonicGraffitiArtist aww yee (^:
legit credits
most of the names are fake
lol
+reid enderle Wait wat
+Emerald Alien That's actually true. Kojima wasn't convinced the game would do well, so all the people involved put in fake names to avoid embarrassment.
I had never played metal gear solid games before, but you perked my interest for the games a ton. Now i own every game and i think im addicted now. and for that i thank you
Well played, mate. This was an awesome video. Reminded me of the good old times and all the fun and discussion we had with/about this game.
I like this game, but it feels like it could have been a lot better. Fans seriously overpraise the shit out of this game, but I don't see it as a masterpiece of design or story. It feels like something that meant to be a gritty, realistic fairy tale: Nice Environment, overwritten character or underwritten characters that are all memorable, fights that big and dumb, but memorable and clever at the same time, and messages that are so blunt, they're probably written in the manual. This is probably one of the best first time play experiences in any video game, but you can really tell the idea of playing this game repeatedly was NOT a priority. (Don't give me that Multiple ending BS, if Meryl or Otacon really had that different of results, Snake wouldn't have reached the same conclusion)
In the gameplay department it is really seriously lacking, the shooting and stealth is really basic. I mean like you said it has real clever parts, and as a interactive story its great, but not as a game-"game" when you play it for the first time it keeps you really guessing. But like you said once you know the twists it can get rather stale.
So ? There are other games who are 20 years old who I personally think have more fun gameplay. I am aware that its a PS 1 game, but in MGS case the gameplay for me was only a means to get to the next cutscene or codec conversation which I thought were enjoyable.
You are idiot
Stop saying "new-killer" instead of "nuclear"!! xP
Manobaru new killer man
New killer
Manobaru that's just how they say it in his country
This is the first video I have watched from you. I haven't even got to the content. The fact that you used that x5 theme for you intro just earned you another subscriber.
Brilliant video, I don't know how you do it, but you seem to be able to make anyone laugh
Thank u soooo much caddy if it wasn't for this video I would have never played mgs or even thought about it it is now one of my favorite game series
James! I just wanted to tell you, I never played a Metal Gear game, but I saw this Retrospective and your MGS Easter Hunting videos and you totally convinced me to! I finally got the MGS Legacy Collection a few weeks back, I already beat MGS3 and MGS Peace Walker, and I'm currently playing MGS1 (I'm in the Sniper Wolf battle!), and I got to say, I'm really liking it!
So, thanks!
I was in the second one when I posted this!
Krimson Psychosis I started playing in the order the Legacy gave me. Someone told me to finish playing them in that order since I started that way.
Consider yourself liked. You were quite hilarious, and handled my favorite series with great comedy! Watching the rest!
Caddy, I'm gonna have to thank you- I recently beat Metal Gear Solid (more specifically, The Twin Snakes (which is the the enhanced Gamecube port on par with Sons of Liberty)) and I have to say- thank you. Thank you for being the driving force behind me finally picking up these games. Because DAMN, it is one hell of a ride.
@Carlitonsp1 : I found approaching the games as you would a summer blockbuster enhances the experience. This goes especially for the cutscenes involving boss fights.
Haha, this video was amazing. I've always been a huge fan of the Metal Gear series, it's my favorite series of all time. Caddicarus, you explained this game amazingly and instantly got my subscribe because of it. I'm happy to see another fellow Metal Gear fan. I can't wait for Phantom Pain!
i have never played a metal gear game but thanks to caddi im now gonn try them out
thank you Caddicarus
Greatly enjoyed. Excellent recap.
I remember getting some PS1 games for Christmas, this was one of them and I didn't ask my parents about getting MGS but man I'm glad they did. :D
Good job man this video represents what i think of metal gear so far... really enjoyed this. subscribing and checking your channel.
Dude, this video is spot fucking on. Thanks so much for making it. MGS is one of my favourites of all-time, and the points you make about it feeling real and alone are so true. I love this game in every sense of the word, and I hope I remember my first playthroughs forever. Thank you.
Yes. totally epic. when I first played the demo.. the binoculars, the stealth element... omg. it was so immersive. all the areas you couldn't reach in the map you just felt like exploring it.. replayed it many times. life was good!! I can still quote some of the characters.
Metal Gear has always an special place in my memories since it inspire me to learn english. For the first time I was involved in the plot and wanted to understand better but often the material that I found in spanish was rather limited (internet in the 90's). So I asked my parents to sign me for an english course. I'll never forget the first time that I finally got to understand the scene with sniper wolf and otacon, and the codex conversations that followed.
You're the reason I'm getting All the MGS games
Sir, this has to be one of the greatest things I have ever experienced. I'm really surprised that you don't even have 50K subs with how entertaining you are.
oh man, i lost it when you talked about liking the boss battles. That's too awesome
I'm so happy I decided to pick up MGS3 and TTS recently. This really is a great series.
you know what i want.. all the soundtracks from the 1st game and that ps1 sound when turned on
2:58 " I only played this game 3 to 4 years ago after recommendation from my daddy dearest..."
3:28 " This is the first game I can recall from my youth that completely blew me away"
>YOUTH
> 3 to four years ago
Either I'm stupid and misunderstood something or you did an oopsydoodles.
Legendary Status right here.
My favorite game of all time!!
This video and the others that he's done on MGS has actually made me buy the first game, the first time I have played one. Just waiting for it to arrive now :)
Hahah love the Dara O'Brian reference, that speech he gave about video games and how their the only form of art that deny you access unless you are good at them was amazing, I love that stand up show
Awesome video. This way by far my favorite game in the PS1 era, too.
They tried that with Twin Snakes. I don't understand why they can't leave these games alone - they existed and ruled for their time, and they kept getting better and evolving WITH the times. I really don't like Twin Snakes for everything it tried to do. If you ask me, leave it alone, and accept it for the amazing game it is. It doesn't NEED a HD remake. It's near perfect on its own! :-D
I love MGS, MGS2 and MGS3, but i always go back to the remake of the first MGS twin snakes as my favorite. Its like god tier of gaming
I always thought the GC remake was inferior to the original
The voice acting, music and atmosphere(I think) is way better done in the original.
In the remake, however(I think) all of the character models are too uncanney-valley, the voice acting is too action-hero-ish, the music is stale and forgetable, the mocap is silly and the moments are not as emotionally powerful
For example, compare Gray Fox's revelation and death in both versions
These are all opinions, by the way.
omg I love your work. nearly divine as Kojima's work!!!
Hey Cad , I'm play Metal Gear Solid right now for the first time ever cause of you. I got it from a friend's psn account he let me use so I can download the copy he bought on the PSN Store. I'm loving it so far and I see why you love it so much.
Love this game, I am on my 3rd playthrough. I got it all because of this video.
You convinced me to buy the HD collection (Peace Walker, Snake Eater, Sons of Liberty). It's by far one of my favorite game series.
Enjoyed you vid mate, MGS is one of my favorite franchises. I've just finished MGS4 and want to play all the others again. Such an epic series, Hideo Kojima i salute you sir
As soon as you said this was your favourite PS1 game ever, I liked the video. I believe this is the best video game series of all time, when you consider gameplay and plot.
This is one of the greatest games I have ever or will ever play. I probably beat it over 20 times when I was younger. I would beat it and then start all over again. Damn neared wore the disks out. lol
Just what I'd expect from the man who loves the MGS series. it's been a long time since I've seen such a good game reviewer....
I just started the game after getting the Legacy Collection months ago, and I am continually dying on the first section with the elevator.
Great.
Here's a few game franchises I want you to do in your Caddie's Retrospective; Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Batman Arkhamverse, Spyro of course, and God of War.
I never had cared about the Metal Gear Solid series until I saw Caddy's videos. His videos made me want to experience what is my favorite game series to date. Way to go Caddy. Way to fucking go.
man, you REALLY KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME! this game is awesome! and your comments are awesome
played it a couple of months ago, and i can guarantee it holds so fucking well!
one of the most atmospheric games i've ever played
Instant sub by the way! Excellent video!
This game means a lot for me.
Such a class game series.
Great video Metal gear solid is my favorite series
Awesome video. As usual.
Caddi i first played the metal gear solid in the pack with 2 3 and peace walker wich i got for this Christmas and Im LOVING THE GAMES.....ITS AWESOME
Your videos are fantastic, i love your humor, i think you should do the Oddworld games :)
Amazing retrospective :)
Caddicarus, when you enter your happy place I found my self legitimately waving my hand in front of your face and feeling genuinely concerned. Well done, Sir.
THANK YOU! I bought the Metal Gear HD Collection and was left out on some parts in the game because I had no idea what happened in the first game.
Like 6:50! It made me laugh silently...
EDIT: It's 2018 now, and this is still, my most favorite part of any Caddicarus video.
I never got bored with it.
Not long ago, I spent about 3 days non-stop attempting to 100% this game. 2 days to beat it on my first try, and 1 day trying to get all of the rest of the unlocks and the Myrel ending.
Caddicarus your my favourite RUclipsr by a long shot
I recently replayed this game after playing the shit out of it since 99.
And once wasn't enough, I played it twice back to back just cos I wanted to, that's the hallmark of a timeless masterpiece.
i just found out your show. Its so funny man XD keep it up good work and stay metal
Excellent review, I couldn't agree with you more on the points you made. It's nice to see a good MGS review :) x
I never really enjoyed or even bothered to try any of the Metal Gear games until I saw all of your retrospectives on these games. Thanks to you I now have all 3 metal gear games on my vita and have been enjoying them very much. I regret never bothering to try these games at the time of its release. I do recall playing MGS1 when I was about 7 or 8. I remember it being the first PS1 game I had but I never knew how to play and get passed the intro to the elevator. How was I supposed to know the point of the game was not to get caught?
Do your thing, it's the best of the series in my humble opinion, hope you finish it! ^_^
