Whenever I am stressed out and need some peace, I head for a listen of this song. These two working together is pure bliss. It's not the lyrics (no disrespect for Kate Rusby intended whatsoever) that get me, but the dynamic and the harmony that they create. The sound! As a postscript I must say that I love seeing the sound guy disguised as a birch tree! Well done!

I have done a bit of research into this very old song. some of the words seem lost to intelligence, but some can be rescued. "There's Phœnix and Female they are both joined as one, So keep yourselves single as you and I have done, So keep yourselves single, and constant I'll retire Unto her, like some Phoenix that flourishes in fire.

This is a truly lovely performance. The voices, of course, are lovely. And the sublime instrumental accompaniment. As an audio engineer, however, I'm curious where the vocal mics are. I see the instrument mics, but they're too close to the instruments to also be the vocal mics. The balance between vocals and instruments in this recording would not be so superb if the vocals were being picked up only by the instrument mics. Can anybody explain this to me?
