Music video by Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O'Donovan performing Crossing Muddy Waters. (C) 2015 I'm With Her, LLC. Under exclusive license to Sugar Hill Records, A Welk Music Group Company.
I know I’m eight years late, but this just makes me happy to be alive at this time.
Same here. Better late than never!
Sara, Sarah, Aoife, if you ladies ever read this, I just want you to know you achieved musical perfection with this.
Whoever recorded and mixed this gets a gold star. So perfectly balanced and blended. You can hear each one of their voices and instruments like a flock of birds all around you on a summer morning.
Perfect.
It is beautiful, no doubt, but surely the poetry is as important as the artistry of the musicians - clear diction not something encouraged in upbringing?
lndeed beautiful although I wish I could distinguish all the words - a favourite nevertheless.
Have to disagree slightly. When Aiofe sings full voice it is a bit too bright. Great on the breathy parts though. That’s not a cheap mike on her either. Otherwise great to hear them in this setting rather than the many live hall shows I’ve heard. Best is still the NPR tiny desk concert, sound wise anyway. Talent always shines through.
I get the chills all over when Aiofe sings. And talk about beautiful......
@@ericb9426 if one could make a living picking peanuts from unicorn poop i may have a use for the flock of them swimming in my thoughts.
or you might know your poop, which I must admit, is more probable.
You know that moment when a song is so beautifully genius you can't help but tear up a bit? That's this right here.
Oh yeah… beauty at its purest
Aldous Huxley said; "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." I hope somewhere Aldous is listening and smiling.
Is anyone like me and comes back to listen to this a couple of times ... every single week? For several years now.
I discovered this video just about a year ago, and it's a rare week that I don't come back to it at least once.
Even the camera work in the video is amazing!
YES!!!
Also, Watkins deserves way more recognition than she gets. Her voice and fiddle presence are both mesmerising.
She got plenty of recognition in Nickel Creek.
@@thomasromano9321I was just about to say she was famous for fifteen years before this band formed.
Had to pinch myself to see if I was still alive as that is a heavenly performance... bar none
These girls are the embodiment of all the good things happening to bluegrass/folk music right now.
Check out Mandolin Orange too. Bet they'd be friends! So good.
Not just bluegrass in my opinion, although that is certainly their main focus, these girls are the best thing to happen to music in general in the last several years.Saw them a week ago in Connecticut and have listened to nothing else since. This song in particular embodies all that is special about them. I especially love the effortless subtle brilliance of Sarah's banjo playing, she is a force of nature on anything with strings.
correction, women
or you could call them musicians
i couldn't agree more.
Not since Dolly, Linda and Emmy Lou sang have I ever heard such an amazing trio of voices.
Agree
Dolly, Linda and Emmylou have amazing voice, and I can always tell which lady sings which part. Lovely as they sound, they do not have the blend that these three women do. I can't tell who is singing high, middle or low, and they change it up all of the time. Superb!
@@kathrynwebster6307 I agree. I like this chemistry more. Greater than the sum of the parts. This is like CSNY magic. Not that Trio aren't fabulous together and moreso backing up others or singing themselves.
I saw and heard Sarah Jarosz for the very first time last night at Garrison Keillor's America the Beautiful tour in Providence, Rhode Island. I am a "folkie" from the 60's, Sang at coffee houses in Boston, Providence and Newport and this amazing young woman has reignited my love of music pure and simple! I love all the women folk singers of the 60's and most recently Allison Kraus, Ricky lee Jones, etc., but this woman's voice, songwriting and musicianship completely blew me away!!! I am buying her cd's and hope she will be appearing locally here in New England soon! Thank you Garrison Keillor. It would have been a downright shame if I died without seeing and hearing this beautiful young woman's voice!
Adele Carlson Get all 3!! Her abilities at 17 will amaze you.
+Adele Carlson Imagine how isolated we feel here in OZ. Maybe she'll come here one day...
Listen to this often. It just does something to me, every time I hear it. These young ladies have such angelic voices and they blend so well together. I sincerely hope they will always make time to create and perform together. The musical world is a better place with them in it! ❤
Beautiful harmony! Cant go wrong with a John Hiatt song. Hope more and more young artists record his songs
How strangely wonderful it is to hear music wherein every instrument speaks with its own voice, instead of being mixed into an amorphous wall of sound. Beautiful!
This kind of perfection is rare in any genre so extremely well done
This is musical magic here! It only happens once in a blue moon. Thank God we get to hear it here!
I see I commented four years ago, but I just listened to this again tonight, and it brought tears to my eyes. It's such a sad song! I played it for a friend of mine who is mostly a rock music, some soft rock, lover, and she said, "I didn't even know they made songs like this." She loved it.
Fine, fine, yet sad, lyrics, but a performance from the heavens. Magnificent in every way.
My daily routine. Load RUclips, listen to this amazing song, sung by angels, and my day has started with a blessing.
Thank you Sara, Sarah and Aoife!!
I've watched and listened to this so many times in 2020. There is so much here. At the 2:10 mark you can see Sara J's little, shy smile as if to say, "this sounds pretty good, this is the take".
Yes- I noticed that as well.
What they were all in the groove, totally in the pocket with with one another .
Sara’s smile was the happy acknowledgment one gets playing beautiful music with ones’s equally talented peers.
How beautifully rendered is this!.
I may, or may not have just bought a Banjo. Thanks Sarah......
It took me six years to find this, but oh well. I did. Extraordinary!!!!
These young ladies make me very happy. Good choice of tunes. This is one of John Hyatt's best songs
isn't nice to hear real musicians without filter? I hope they come to Ausitn.. LOVE Sarah Jarosz
Tim Fenton It is one of John's best acoustic songs, and a very good song. Personally, I'm more of a fan of his electric stuff like "Detroit Made" and "Slow Turning".
An old friend showed me this, what feels like a life time ago. I still love it, Thanks Skinny
My vote for best band of the decade! So much talent, brilliance and joy! I can't decide which I like better; the stunning harmonies or the perfect unison that you gals are able to achieve.Thank you for the relief and comfort you're bringing during this difficult time.
Arrangement is everything here! They knew when one would be running out of air, and where the other could pick up, and whose voice would sound best in which spot! Bravo on whoever arranged this!!
I cannot get enough of this. I have watched this countless times now.
Artists become artists after listening to the music that we all love, music from artists they grew up with. And so the art is handed down from generation to generation and never dies. You just have to look for that river bank, and see it’s all flowing where it needs to go. It never dries up.
Very nicely put, Robert!👍
Stunning vocals. Listen to the harmony at 2:41. They make it look soooo easy.
Can't get enough of their voices blended together
Anyone know the time signature?
goosebumps!!!
They sound wonderful. Thanks, ladies. 3 separate instruments 3 voices that sound like 1 = MUSIC!
The musical tension between these three goddesses is so powerful, and yet, it just flows. Thanks ladies!
This is classic music in the 21st century! Trio of angelic voices and prefect instrumentals!
These three sound so perfect together that I'm sitting here listening... speechlessly stunned and amazed. Wow!
Their version of this masterpiece never gets old. Incredible talent.
So just saw Sarah Jarosz tonight...saw Aoife in March...and Sara Watkins is in town in September. Hitting the trifecta...
I love this song, it was the first song i filmed my daughter dancing to💜😋✌️
I think we've just heard what angels sound like.
Aaaaaaaaaaaah. Such a travel song. Where we travellin' now guys?
If there is a heaven, this must be what angels sounds like when they're singing.
I couldn’t have said it better.
Listened to Different Drum covered by Sara Watkins. Loved it and typed in her name to see what else she had done. Came up with this and am so happy. What talent there is in the world. God, I love RUclips
. I have found so many incredible artists I would never have known. Stay safe everyone xx
Thank you youtube for show me this song. Just amazing .....❤
I am deeply drunk and this song spoke to me, Amen.
Holy hell! I just went to heaven... and back on earth where beautiful voices and music makers fill me with joy. Thanks!
Pretty awesome.
It all seems so simple.
But I appreciate if it was that easy, we all be doing it.
Bravo maestro's
I'm not sure this will ever be surpassed as my absolute favorite song.
Angelic voice, thank you...9 years too late of course
So much music coming from just 3 instruments and 3 voices means the heights of musical and soul-searching accomplishment. Thank you so very much, performers, deepest meanings in this performance for me!
Probably the most painful song I care to put myself through. I lost the woman of my dreams about a year ago, and the line "left me in my tears to drown" is especially relatable.
I'm not really sure why I like this song, all I can do is cry to it, but for whatever reason, I like it, and this rendition is beautiful, capturing all the emotions of the lyrics.
It's ok to grieve bro. It takes a long time to get to a healthy mental state sometimes. Just keep doing your thang. Much love and peace!
@@d3eztrickz Thanks man
Sending love to you and yours, hope you're finding peace
I have listened to this song dozens of times since first discovering it a few weeks ago. To me, this is what music is all about. Amazing playing, and heavenly voices. Sheer perfection!
they just released their first orig recorded song together today! Go to one of their FB pages
alright.. heads there immediately
This is perfection. Every. Single. Note.
Saw this and thought, John's song covered by the ladies
Absolutely beautiful - love the fiddle, banjo compliment each other and the voices in harmony
Knock this out of the park
Brilliant
This is amazing. I hope they do more than a 7" single and one tour. We need a full album from this group!
Anson Burtch well you’ll have your wish on February the 16th
Three very talented young women. They did a beautiful job on this tune.
This song never fails to give me those chills
Same. There is something very special about this perdormance.
Just lovely! Myself I play Celtic and Irish Music, but also love beautiful Bluegrass Music like this!
Chills and tears Thank you
Knew these three great ladies were touring together but this is the first time I've heard them all together. I am not disappointed. What fantastic sounds they can make together!!
Three lady's give us a beautiful sound , all helping eachother to nail this song as a unit and thats the result we get , of course the talent is very high but none of them stick out too much , to me its just fab
Just can't get over how good these girls are together, so amazingly talented!
Girls? Come on!
Heart rending story so well told. Respect to all who have suffered from a loved one's untimely death. Still can't believe my friend is gone.
Three talented and majestic women.
I adore this performance!
Such superb voices, and harmonies. I'm in love X3. Thanks so much for sharing your healing gift
I can't stop playing this song. Great writer. Great performances. My favorite for the month of April!
On the rare occasion I've done sessions like this where somehow everything was just perfect. The room, the players, the feel. It's a magical time that lasts forever in the memory. This had to have been one of those times for the girls.
Absolutely amazing. One of my favourite John Hiatt songs by some of my favourite singers.
These three sound BEAUTIFUL together! I just saw them perform at The Red Wing Music festival, and their performance was amazing. I really hope they make this band official and start recording albums together!
This trio is awesome,I can't get enough! Hats off!
Three Angels!
Sarah being from Wimberley... these lyrics seem so eerie now.....The Blanco River is wide, deep and brown..... :( tears to drown...
Oh man, this is gorgeous! Harmonies like yours speak to my soul. Happy sigh....
these guys need a Tiny Desk Concert.

I come here every so often to nourish my soul. ❤️❤️❤️
The future of this music is in good hands .. Absolutely stunning talents ...
This is my favorite thing on RUclips one of my most searched songs
What a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song.. one of many from the great John Hiatt.
These three need to do a full length album; it would be amazing. This song sends a shiver down my spine, I could listen to it over and over.
Love John Hiatt. So underrated as a songwriter and also a guitarist. Wild man could nail a song. The album this comes from was killer. Thanks, John. These ladies get big thanks for their tastes and talents.
I love the new life these folks bring to the table of this great old style. Not that it was dying; it's just great when young folks catch the passion and assume the mantle, and carry this beautiful music to the next generation.
This is one of the finest renditions I’ve ever heard. What an incredible ensemble!! Love them!!
When talent lives and shines (as I think it does with these 3) our world is a much better place ..thank you , thank you , thank you ladies. Can't wait for the "I'm (still) with her" tour - please come back to Bristol UK - it was a fab gig. I'm a fan !
TheParatuner on their own they are great musicians but they really have something special here. I saw Sarah J with the Milk Carton Kids and that was great but these 3 together need to do an album. And I love how a lot of these young musicians graduate from of some of the best music conservatories in the US. :) Sarah Jarosz is an amazing mandolin and banjo musician ....
So much great +folk song, thnx you so much for this very fine version and for sharing it!
I'll listen to this every time I cross a log, thank you.
Three VERY talented ladies making AWESOME music together!
LOVE this song and the three lovely talented ladies who wrote it, play it, sing it... amazing
@Terry Beaton: Thanks Terry.
Sounds like voices of three angels !!!
It's funny how folk music is semi-closely related to mainstream country (or at least 'crosses over' a lot or something)... yet the amount of like I have for mainstream country is a big zero, while I really really like folk music like this. These are some talented musicians.
Bravo!
+glibbergloop I don't know much about country music, but with artists like O'Donovan, you can really feel that Irish heaviness. Same thing with some Celtic tunes. I think it's in the blood.
+Passes Through The Fire
Most definitely. The speaking accent I think is what makes the big difference for me (between country musicians and celtic/irish folk musicians)
My wife & I just had the same discussion coming home from hearing Sarah Jarosz tonight. To her "country is just stupid"--but I've been able to convince her that bluegrass =/= country.
+Scott Oakman
:)
folk music: music that's played where yer folks 'r from.
Definitely don't overwrite that memory... this is great and it will always be!!!
Harmonies as tight as the Wailin Jennys. Awesome girls. Great use of the instruments to support and lift the vocals.
Beautiful song. I love everything these 3 ladies are doing right now. Brightens my day.
I have been alive these 60yrs and this song moves me as well some of my fav's.!!
I've never heard such perfect harmonizing.
I just love this. . . as others have said, would love to see these three perform. And, an album please!
Thoughtful musicianship. Exquisite.
I’ve listened to this soooo many times over the last few years! You ladies are amazing ❤❤
This tears my soul open every time I hear it. My God thank you ladies for doing this.
I am so glad I will get to see then tomorrow LIVE in Badalona, Barcelona!!!!! Wow!!!
I found this a couple of years ago. I play it at least once a week, and never get tired of it.
Just wow
This is music at its very best
