I remember being a young teen going to a game stop with my brothers and mom, we wanted to get red dead redemption but the guy at the desk recommended my mom shouldn't buy it for us because it had a sex scene in it and we might be too young for that but then recommended prototype saying that it should be fine. And my mom who was usually hesitant about us being exposed to m or r rated media was just cool with that.

The best part about this game form was going "body hunting"- because playing as a girl because you're a shapeshifter is a thing, so finding the girl character in both games who wears a cool jacket or hoodie and taking her form for gameplay (before a mission cruelly takes it away from you by forcing you to assume the form of a generic, gas mask wearing enemy. And the worst part is the civilians spawn randomly and in "patterns" like GTA's cars, so finding a favorite can be impossible- and of course, late game when it's full on zombie apocalypse there are fewer, and fewer civilians unless you actively clean up infection zones.

Prototype remains an absolute G.O.A.T. of the late 2000s. I'm so glad you got to finally experience "Ultimate Power Fantasy: The Video Game."
Prototype 2 had more refined gameplay, but Prototype is still the superior game, I think. The more compelling story about military conspiracies and secret government crimes drives more chaotic gameplay.
Kill some civies accidentally? Doesn’t matter, you’re not the good guy. Find a military base? Raid it, you’re not the good guy. Save the city? Meh, guess we can be a good guy for once.
There’s a feeling that you’re not even a real person, just a force of nature the fools in Blackwatch unleashed on the world-karmic retribution for trying to make a bioweapon powerful enough to bring down a country.
I feel the opposite personally. I think the story was better executed in 2, but the gameplay is much more deeper in 1. 2 felt far too dumbed down (minus the tendrills) imo, removed combos, less parkour and just less freedom to do cool tech. I think 1 had an amazing atmosphere too and there are some amazing concepts and themes used (look at the concept art for the game) but jsut weren't pulled off that well
Prototype 2 had better presentation and some QoL improvements over 1, I feel. That said, I think 1 was generally the superior game in story and gameplay.
The story in 2, I felt was really jarring. There's this crazy dissonance in 2 where I feel like we're meant to sympathize with Heller for being turned into a monster while still trying to be a decent-ish man and father, contrasted with Alex, who's rejected humanity completely. At the same time, though, Cole is doing the exact same stuff Alex is, carving through scores of former comrades and civilians with reckless abandon, and that never registers with him.
In 1, it fits into the narrative perfectly as it's established that Alex isn't a good guy at all, and only cares about himself and revenge. And the twist is excellent because we learn he quite literally isn't human, just the virus given shape.
@ricemazterI agree with you, I think Heller still trying to be a decent human, yet, kills people almost without a thought, is the same reason Alex is the way he is, they're not "themselves" anymore, they're carnal versions of the virus. While Alex gave up trying to be "Alex" anymore, Heller still tries, because his human memories, or you could even say "soul", loves his daughter too much not to.
I think that's why I like him more than Alex, he's like a werewolf, he's mostly human, but he gives into his monstrous tendencies, not cause he wants to, but has to.
(I got the names Cole and Heller mixed up lol)
Alex is morally gray. There's an achievement for eating as few regular people as possible; because Alex doesn't WANT to eat them.
The only thing Prototype 1 did worse than 2 was the boss fights IMO. The atmosphere, the gameplay (mostly), the story, heck, even the leveling up was better in 1.

loved prototype, The game is basically a more Mature & In depth version of "Hulk Ultimate Destruction" which is also a Amazing Game. for prototype i remember Rushing at targets with Armor form and Blade Arm dicing them up into Red Paint.

I gave my perspective on Prototype and Infamous on the vod but I'll give it again.
Infamous is a modernization of classic superhero stories by DC, Marvel, and other big name comic companies about justice, love, and looking out for one another. It's of its time due to the fact it's a such a modernization of really simple ideas. This isn't me throwing shade, I love this about the game.
Protype isn't a modernization of anything. It feels like it's picked directly from the pages of image comics, top cow, other sorta indie comic groups where they just publish whatever the writer of the comic wants. It's gorey and bloody and edgy because that's what the devs think is cool and you can feel the earnest enjoyment from the game. I prefer Prototype because 1. It runs at a smooth 60fps (infamous wishes) and has more interesting gameplay (I find the original infamous feels more like a cover shooter than a superhero romp), and 2.Because I love indie comics from supes to horror anthology and Alex feels directly ripped from the pages of Spawn or Witch blade or The Darkness.
When people compare the two or say one ripped off the other it just makes me sad because it means they didn't play either game to see the differences. Both are great, and oh so different.
Funny enough, we do have the darkness games and they were surprisingly great and unique
The part of you just running around goofing off as a consumed NPC was the extent of my time with this game as a kid so getting to see a full playthrough is really nice! :D
This is why I like penny, playing the most gory game out there and laughing at the stupidest bits, and making me loose my breath right along with her purely of laughter.

I played this game as a kid thinking it would be like Hulk: Ultimate destruction, but with super violence and cool powers. But as soon as I got to the first stealth section, I got frustrated and bored, so I gave up.

reminds me of this one gladiator game on PS2 I had, that at first has a gladiator part, then it's nonstop stealth and a pretty difficult tutorial. after all of that, I got some gladiator fights, and then I got tired at the 2nd boss.

This was one of my absolute all time favorite games as a kid. I think the only games I played more were Saints Row 2, Fallout 3, and Halo 3.
