Can totally recognize how this game is really cool mechanically and in combat, but the plot and voice acting in this game are absolutely hysterical.
Which is a legitimate shame, because the creativity and the skill-ceilling with what you can do in combat is probably the most in-depth out of any superhero game (unless you count fighting games like Marvel Vs Capcom). The combat would honestly not look out of place in a DMC game.

Honestly, it's a miracle that the game came out so good, knowing that it was developed for about a year
Just leads me to wonder what Web of Shadows could have been had it had the funding and development time Sony's Spiderman 2 did, Web of Shadows was all but set up to fail yet despite all it's flaws (that mostly just come from poor optimization and voice directing) it's held up there with Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man as the 3 greats of free-roam Spider-Man games.
This whole thing feels more like it was made in G-mod than an officially licensed marvel game

Edit: Penny absolutely losing her mind at 30:02 onward on how letting Electro die was the GOOD OPTION is also incredibly cathartic. Because yeah, it _would_ be the objectively better choice to team up with the villains to defeat an even greater threat if that's what it takes and because the other villains are like "hey, I live in this city too, I don't want it to get destroyed by alien goop zombies". That's, like, one of the best tropes ever! How did they fuck that up?

Imagining Spiderman trying to gaslight BC really hard about not knowing he has a civilian identity is a hilarious thought. Maybe see if he can get another supe like Reed or Tony in on the joke and have them tell her it's a sensitive and complex mental condition they've been looking for a cure for but haven't cracked yet, so it's best to just play along that Spiderman is one entity who knows nothing of a "Peter Parker".

Helping save a supervillain's life in order to TEAM UP AND STOP AN ALIEN INVASION THAT THREATENS THE WORLD, for that matter. That's superhero story 101!

The funniest part about all of the "haha Kingpin = fat" jokes in this game is that, canonically, Fisk is almost entirely muscle
Just 2% is Fat while 98% is pure muscle, Man is an Absolute Unit
And like of all depictions of Kingpin this is definitely the one where he looks the most built, it'd make more sense in Into The Spiderverse but that movie actually has good writing thankfully.

I honestly love the whole transformation this game's open world has, where it goes from a normal city to a warzone. I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff (also a sucker for standing on moving vehicles in games. It's very possible that Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (2008) would be my favorite game if I played it today)

I love how so much of this game looks like Xavier Renegade Angel. My favorite scene is the wave turning all the symbiote monsters at back into people, you can tell that there's duplicate people in the cutscene.
honestly this moment 20:04 had me like: "the hell was that Xavier Renegade Angel Camera pan."
The dialogue in this game feels like fandub but not like in a good or funny way more like a bunch of 15 year olds just improvised some "cool" dialogue on the spot and made their older siblings and parents to voice act it (especially this line 20:03)

Fun fact about the whole "Marvel Zombies" thing - exactly 6 days ago a QA Manager for this game called that rumor "poppycock" in that original reddit thread, he did also reveal though, that Daredevil was supposed to show up and they had to cut it.
Fun fact: Peter canonically cheats on MJ with Black Cat in this game because there's a dialogue option that only happens if you choose that path: "This city is going to be ours. Just you wait and see." And that same line of dialogue actually pops up during Peter's, uh, introduction at the start of the game, meaning chat was really onto something.

When I played this game at 8 years old, I was somehow too stupid to realize that it had a morality choice system, I literally just thought the prompts were asking you which suit you wanted for the cutscene as a cosmetic. So when I got the evil ending where Spider-Man becomes the evil overlord of a symbiote-possessed New York, I spent the next like 5 years thinking that was just the canon ending

this game's advertisements made me scared of it when I was a lil kid cause of how freaky it made the symbiote out to be so seeing how extremely silly and all over the place it is feels like they pulled a prank on me a decade+ ago and I just never knew

Constantly calling Kingpin fat is a running theme in the comics. Aside from calling Kingpin corrupt, pretty much the only thing Spidey insults him about is his weight and it always makes Kingpin furious. Kingpin's "fat" is actually all muscle, but Peter doesn't care.

one of the things that kinda nags at me about this game's dialogue is the weird rejection of typical spiderman humor/dynamics. he's still quipping but nobody else is buying into it bc everyone else is cartoonishly edgy. why are spiderman's allies, in his game, telling him to shut up when he drops a stupid pun? why is he the only one playing in the space? where's the genre????
