- In 2002, when Fresno State played Georgia Tech in the Silicon Valley Football Classic, it was sort of a minor miracle that the game even got played in the first place. Because let's just say that everything leading up to the 2002 installment of this game was an absolute mess in every sense of the word

This was such a banger video worth waiting for. Welcome back JG8
In the Silicon Valley Bowl that was played a year earlier, my sister was in the Michigan State marching band, and I remember her talking about how bad the field conditions were. Funny when you said the field looked like a pig pen.
Lol the music sounds like something from a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie
I was just wondering when this series would start up again.
So glad to have JG8 back with a video that is on excellence as usual for all of your videos. Looking forward to more.
Welcome back and just in time for the start of college football season
This was around the time Fresno state football was starting to build and compete hard against strong teams.I remember they beat Washington in seattle in like 03 or 04.That would have been impossible in the 90s.
Love your college football vids!
Nice to have you back
Do a video on the 2003 Northern Illinois football team, they went 10-2 on the season however they were not invited to a bowl game despite beating #15 Maryland, at #21 Alabama, and Iowa State during the season
Then the next year they finally made (and won) a bowl game....... the last Silicon Valley Football Classic
What I remember about that game was that Georgia Tech made a zillion turnovers, and the Georgia Tech radio announcer, Wes Durham, mentioned during halftime that fireworks were set off. He said having a fireworks display in the middle of a sunny day was odd. Perhaps the game was initially supposed to be at night instead of the day.
You are dead wrong, this game wasn't the craziest disaster of the 2002 bowl season that my friend was the BCS championship game in which the title was literally stolen from the rightful champion Miami on a bogus pass interference call .....
Been watching your videos for a while. New subscriber
silicon valley classic was one of the biggest flops in NCAA history
Yes! JG8 is back 🏈
At the time this game was played, I wasn't sure why FOX Sports Net stopped airing this event and I know why now. I can't believe that this even lasted until the mid-2000s knowing what we know now. The Silicon Valley Classic is lucky that the WAC and Fresno State were so benevolent.
Fresno was probably willing to do it because it was their only bowl opportunity, and it was played close enough by that it was just like a normal road trip anyway. They had to pay GT because they had to travel across the country.
The games organizers could have entered into the ADAA dodgeball open
This is very similar to what happened back in 2020 (at least with the TV portion of this story) with the Champions League & Europa League in the US. When the pandemic hit that March & postponed the knockout stages of both competitions, Turner Sports basically terminated their 4 year deal with UEFA that started in 2018 & was supposed to run until 2022 that June citing the uncertainty surrounding the resumption of play & the lost ad revenue as a result as the main reason for doing this. This left UEFA in a big pickle as they had 2 months before the European competitions would resume to find a US TV partner & there were fears that no one would be able to watch the Champions League or the Europa League. Luckily CBS (who was announced that February as the broadcaster to take over the US rights to European competitions after that initial Turner Sports deal ended) decided to start their contract 2 years early. This turned out to be a great move on CBS's part as back at this time last year, UEFA decided to renew their deal for another 6 years meaning the original contract CBS signed in 2020 will run until 2028.
Nice sound improvement
JG8 returns !!
Well there it is
Finally college football is back
Nice!
Georgia Tech killed this bowl game. I refuse to believe anything else.
It's tradition for football fans to kick back on Saturday and take in college football. I've def turned into some random ass games across the country just to see the environment of the stadium, future NFL players I've never heard of, etc. However I think it's insane for tv networks and sponsors to expect big tv ratings for some random ass teams playing each other in a meaningless bowl game on a random day of the week. If I found myself skipping school or having a day off work in the middle of the week, sure. It was like a little treat to watch a live college game. However I don't think even die hards gave two you know what about these games. How they still exist and I guess make some.peofit on it baffles me
