When Oklahoma Won By Too Many Points | Minnesota @ Oklahoma (1986)
Imagine being so dominant and being so good against an opposing team that you have to apologize afterwards for winning by too much, to the point where you feel guilty about what the heck just happened. Well, in 1986, during a game between Oklahoma and Minnesota, that's exactly what happened after Barry Switzer's team won 63-0. This is the story behind that

In Defense Of: SEMO's 4th Down Failure vs. New Mexico State

We were so close to having an FBS vs. FCS upset. We were this close. And then... nope During week 1 of the 2024 college football season, Southeast Missouri State played New Mexico State, and with SEMO leading by one point with four minutes left, they decided to go for it in their own territory, knowing that a miss would give the Aggies great field position. It is very impressive, but happens more often than one might expect. The Sooners were on track to surpass it the next year, until they ended the regular season with 3 closer wins in a row, followed by a bowl loss to Miami, who was their Kryptonite in those days. It took all that to drop their average margin to 32.58 points per game. In the same conference, Nebraska did it in 1983 (33.62 average margin) and again in 1995 (38.67).

To be fair to Carr, his quote about changing the perspective was clear that he was still pissed off. He said he trusted the commissioner to do what's best for the BIG TEN. Basically, he said, he trusts the commissioner to focus on making money and not giving a damn about the student part of "student athlete". In the end, Carr lost because money talks. Still resulted in a memorable game.

Meh...it's New Mexico State. It's not like they were playing, say, Georgia or Michigan. The Aggies had a once-in-a generation great season last year, but let's be honest; they are far more typically a bottom feeder team. The kind of team for which a decent FCS team beating them would not really be much of an upset. With that said I would have assumed that going for it on 4th and 1 against a bottom-feeder FBS team would be a relatively safe call, but still; I would have punted here and let it rest on the defense.
