As a SEMO student last year I would like to state the last season we lost 3 straight games with a 99 win percentage odds during the 4 quarter according to espn. So losing this game in the 4th was no surprise be we were much better than our record last season and were only 8 point dogs I think.
Finally, something new for "In Defense Of". I was half expecting an IDO of Abilene Christian going for 2 against Texas Tech; but that's a totally obvious call to make.
When watching the game live I was expec ACU to go for the touchdown attempt on 4th down at Texas Tech's goaline instead of kicking the field goal at the end of regulation.
i will say, if anyone wants to go back and see a GOOD FCS vs FBS game from last week... go watch Tennessee Tech vs MTSU from last week... came down to the wire and was a good renewal of a rivalry that died the day that MTSU Moved up to FBS
Surprisingly only 1 fcs over fbs wins so far (Montana st over a very bad New Mexico team). Usually see like 2-4 during week 1. Central Arkansas nearly beat Arkansas St for example. Granted the jackrabbits had a tough game vs OK state. And Abilene Christian nearly pulling upset over Texas Tech.
@@rngfootball759 if central Arkansas had beaten Arkansas state I would not have considered that an upset because Arkansas state is not that good of a team
Also Tennessee Tech nearly beat Middle Tennessee State, getting two 4th-quarter touchdowns to take a 25-24 lead with just over a minute left but allowing the Blue Raiders to get a touchdown in just 50 seconds.
@@matthewwelsh294 see that is why I would not have called it an upset because we think a lot of fcs teams are weak but they are not and we are seeing this year and the last couple of years you can’t take them lightly anymore.
wrt 3:56 - the majority of replies there seemed like they would rather call a QB sneak, or at least a run under center rather than a shotgun run. It's not a bad call to go for it, but bad play design.
@@montaukunderground8903 Wasn't aware he was playing through that injury against North Alabama - fair enough. I think it's reasonable to put in a backup there to try and get the yard if it's something in your playbook, but I get why you keep DeLaurent out there.
A similar play happened at texas a&m and notre dame where they punted and notre dame drove the field wasting all the clock where texas a&m had to essentially let them score for a chance to win. Would love to hear your thoughts❤
This would not have been an upset because we lost a lot of the talent from last year good team. Also at nmsu we are almost at the grey level that we should be FCS compared to fbs and be in the southland or big sky conference
@@JaguarGator8 as an alum of nmsu I can tell you when some games surprise and some don’t. This was one of those games because we had lost our coach and so much talent from last year team that it would be a rebuilding and seeing the track record from the current coach when he was at unlv it is not good
Forget analytics, common sense alone says that the more teams go for it on 4th down, the more they will fail. But we don't live in a common sense world anymore.
I like this call The opponent need a fg to win That's realistically 50 yards away Your an fcs program so talent wise you're outmatched You can win it right away possibly Or they score n you have a minute left to mark a comeback of your own
Meh...it's New Mexico State. It's not like they were playing, say, Georgia or Michigan. The Aggies had a once-in-a generation great season last year, but let's be honest; they are far more typically a bottom feeder team. The kind of team for which a decent FCS team beating them would not really be much of an upset. With that said I would have assumed that going for it on 4th and 1 against a bottom-feeder FBS team would be a relatively safe call, but still; I would have punted here and let it rest on the defense.
@@IndexInvestingWithCole That must be it because it would be stupid to take the lead, get yourself into a spot on the field that makes the FG or TD difficult, and then hope the other team scores.
We nearly had FCS wins over New Mexicos in back-to-back weeks

My general rule of thumb: If you can't get one yard, then you were completely overmatched and should be glad you even came close.

Dude pulled a dan campbell
In the end we did indeed have a chance to tie as we drove deep until we had a pass bounce off the receiver into a defender’s hands.

Qb has a non throwing shoulder injury which prevented him from taking snaps under center.

That one was fine. Think everyone would’ve punted the ball there

A lot of these games seem to be like that this season already. This is what happens when a sport sells out to the gambling industry.
Then why take the lead to begin with?
