  • Jason Elam is the greatest football player that the University of Hawaii has ever produced. However, the story of what happened midway through his career with the Rainbows is nothing short of bizarre, where in the span of a month, he left the program, then transferred to Georgia and enrolled there and took classes there, and then re-transferred back to Hawaii. This is the story behind the craziest transfer saga in Hawaii history

I honestly didn’t know where he went to college. I just remember him as one of the best kickers in the game. Great video.

I knew about Jason Elam, but I had no idea he went to Hawaii.
He is a legendary kicker, especially for the Aloha University.

This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 8/9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about the indecisiveness of another Hawaii player, Walter Murray, when he played for the Colts during the 1987 strike.

Just had something like that at Wisconsin. Markus Allen, a WR and not related to the HOF of the same name, decided to transfer in November of this past year over the firing of Head Coach Paul Chryst. He then committed to arch rival Minnesota and was ready to enroll for the spring semester. By the end of November Luke Fickell was hired as Wisconsin's new coach and Allen decided to de-commit from Minnesota and go back to Wisconsin. That all happened in 3 weeks.

I love these crazy stories you find keep it up. If you haven't look into the Eli Herring story. It's a good one and you might be able to even get an interview with him and get his side of the story. Plus see how intelligent he really is.

11:40 "Elam hoped no one in Hawaii would be mad at him, but obviously, that couldn't be further from the truth."
I can't believe Hawaii let him back when they were so mad at him.

Jason Elam when to my former HS in GA. Like when he broke (at the time), the longest FG in NFL history. They sent a football with his name and distance plus the date. It's still on display at our Football teams Fieldhouse today

I remembered watching Elam on ESPN a lot when he played at Hawai'i. I wasn't surprised to see him be so great in the NFL because he was money in the bank in the WAC. I never heard about him transferring to Georgia.

Georgia didn't act like that it wanted Jason Elam on the team.
One more reason why Steve Spurrier was spot-on when he renamed then-Georgia head coach as Ray Goof.

Thinking, that IF Jason had transferred to UGA, he would've had to face-off against John Kasay, who played for NFL Carolina. Still, like the fact that Elam decided to return to UH coz football history would've been decidedly different!

So that brings a 3rd question to mind after he decided to ask Hawai’i if he could come back. And that is………..
What was her name? lol It’s a legitimate question. Haha Every young man or young woman goes through it from time to time.
    But anyways, I digress.
Great post, as always. Thanks for putting down great content for your subs.

Amazing Elam in his final year at Hawaii actually missed 9 field goals and was just 64% on his kicks, but he ended up being a 3rd round draft pick at #70 overall
Mainly because scouts loved him for his leg! Averaged 44 yards per punt during his final year there.
