  • I waited until the Steam Summer Sale just in case the Steam Deck OLED went on sale. It did not and I bought one anyway.
    I won't be getting too in depth with the Steam Deck here. I'll be unboxing it and briefly turning it on, but that's about it. Reason is that I want to make a few modifications before I really get into it. So I'll also be showing off some of the accessories and upgrades I've purchase and will be installing after I make the video.

    Just bought one as well and loving it! One of the biggest surprises to me were that many unverified games work even better then the verified ones!! So even games I didn't expect to be able to play worked flawlessly. It's amazing

      Yeah... I finding there are games that I wouldn't expect to run on it that do. It seems like the games that aren't working are older ones though, but I'm wondering if some of them can run with tweaks.

    If you have a large steam library and a nice gaming desktop the steam deck oled is a must buy.
    The value you get from this device is huge! And valve is a great company that deserves the support.
    The next gen steamdeck is going to probably change the industry if it hasn't already.
    I wish more people could try this thing. It's so impressive in person.

    • @CrowContinuum
      @CrowContinuum  25 дней назад +1

      I think the Steam Deck is currently changing the industry. It's a popular device that runs on Linux and it may cause more developers out there to make sure their games run on Linux. It could lead to a future where Linux becomes the lead OS for gaming instead of Windows.

      @CrowContinuum  25 дней назад

      Apparently there were improvements made over the original aside from the display like a longer battery life and it weighing a bit less. But if you have the original it may not be worth the upgrade... or maybe wait until the end of the year and see if there's another revision.

    Got mine a handful of days ago. Taking it slow, but it is so cool having a hand held device again. So far I have mainly played PokeMMO, but have dabbled in Palworld and No Mans Sky too. Those type of games are just so much more relaxing and fun on a handheld. Soon, I am going to try either PoE, or an FPS like Deep Rock and see if I can get gyro + trackpad settings where I like them. Probably will take time to adjust, but I am going to put a sincere effort into it. Trackpad+gyro looks like it works really well for shooters in videos I have seen.

    • @CrowContinuum
      @CrowContinuum  25 дней назад

      Yeah... I'm taking it pretty slow too. I just want to see what the base experience is like first and them I'll probably start looking up videos for tweaking things.

    I sold my LCD Deck after getting a Legion Go. Not having the better OLED version of the Deck made me sad, but I couldn't justify paying full price for such an incremental upgrade, so I nuked the situation, lol. Legion Go has detachable controllers so you can potentially play vertical (pinball/shmup) games like with the Switch and its flip grip. On a much larger screen.

    • @martin_dickinson
      @martin_dickinson 18 дней назад

      @CrowContinuum using Gyro for aiming you can use it with either stick as a quick toggle (thumb on stick gyro enable thumb off disable) you can map it to anything really you could map one stick to a radial menu selection then move stick to navigate radial menu remove thumb to toggle /select that radial menu option or you could set it to when both sticks touched toggle whatever , I'm still learning but the toggle gyro to aim is useful I use left stick with no touch to move and right stick with touch to quick toggle gyro for fine aim so I can keep gyro off until needed 👍

    Something really cool u can do, if a game is too much for 60 fps, you can set a different NATIVE framerate in steam deck! U can set it to exaple to 40 fps, or 45 fps. If u knoiw u can get 45 + always all the time, then u can set to 45 and turn on v sync and it will be very smooth. In addition, alot of unity games have a 50 hz bug, non smooth scrolling, but if u set it to 50hz exactly, the game runs smoothly.

    • @CrowContinuum
      @CrowContinuum  25 дней назад

    I only want to warn you that the Steam Deck is a very versatile piece of hardware - but if you try to use it for anything beyond its base functionality, you'll be spending more time tinkering and reconfiguring than actually playing the thing. In my personal experience, trying to install non-Steam games to MicroSD produces a lot of spooky behavior.
    Linux is good for the casual "Facebook & e-mail" crowd, it's good for low-level veteran coders who are well-versed in the terminal, and there is no middle ground. It's a wasteland of confusion and constant reinstalls.

    • @CrowContinuum
      @CrowContinuum  25 дней назад

      I'm not really sure how much tinkering I want to do with the Steam Deck. So far it seems to be more versatile than I thought it would be even without tweaking anything.
