A very happy owner of Swing Caddie sc300i, cannot believe you took hours to set it up, I’m not tech savvy but had it working within minutes. Also no mention of the video component which gives a 5 second film clip of your swing from any angle with minimal set up with an iPhone.
One feature you overlooked on the Rhapsodo is the club recognition. Granted it works mainly for the irons, you just hold the club in front of it and it automatically detects what club you’re hitting.
Very good review. I have a Swingcaddie 200 and I’m considering replacing it. I do like that it will audibly tell you distances. I wish SwingCaddie devices were Bluetooth enabled so that I could use my AirPods to hear my swing results without announcing to the world that my drive went “185 yards!”
@@andrewb1064, I have since replaced the S/C 200 with the S/C 300i. For the older 200 and the 300i, you can turn the volume down to zero. PS the new one does connect to your phone and airpods, which is nice. Good luck!
@@LetsPlayThru thanks. If he doesn’t I’ll probably just buy it myself. But he got the ear worm. I have an elf of my own (my wife) that will probably remind him.
I have both the Mevo as well as the SC300i. Ease of use is hands down the SC300i. Accuracy is equal on good shots but the Mevo needs to be lined up very close to the target line while the SC300i has a much wider view of your hitting area. My son started his college golf experience this fall and I sent him off with the Mevo. While I was down visiting him he fell in love with the SC300i and now I have the Mevo again. Very good unit BUT I want my Swing Caddie back! 😇
Just a heads up, the Garmin G80 over heats in the sun as well on a driving range. I wrote garmin about this and they agreed , they told me to try to use something to cast shade onto it while using it in a stationary setup
The SC300i is a no-brainer for me. The remote is a really nice touch, very accurate, love the audible carry distance but also being able to glance at the data, and the practice mode is a great tool. I don’t like having to use my phone in conjunction with the device. Great video - thank you!
Nice honest and practical review. I have the Rapsodo as it came out before the Garmin R10. Would love to have the simulator function of the R10 to play local courses in the backyard or at the range. Anyway, YES, the Rapsodo is visually appealing with the data points and an analysis update they made a few months ago, BUT while I like that it utilizes my phone (the whole reason I bought it) I also hate that it utilizes my phone. Any amount of sunshine mixed with concrete surface at a range is iPhone overheat after about a dozen swings. I have better results with it recording swings into a net on my backyard porch where I can control direct sunlight. ALSO the Rapsodo battery life may be 8 hours, but your iPhone is going to die well before that. In the first few months I got the data I needed to give me an idea of my carry distances, but now I will only pull it out to spot check a club or two. My guess is it will work well during morning range session before work, but then my phone battery will be treading water the rest of the day unless I have my portal charger handy.
Great video the only thing you missed that I know of with the Garmin r10 was if you are using E6 you can go to the e6 portal and get great shot data analysis
It looks like in order to get swing path stats, an area that I've been working to improve, the Garmin R10 is the only unit reviewed which includes this. I recently purchased a Rapsodo before seeing this review. (Haven't used it yet)
super comprehensive review, exactly why we come to you to get these insights! My mates R10 just arrived so we are getting his home setup sorted out now. Initial impressions from me is that was a very strong device all around
thanks for your reviews. I just got the Rapsodo, and I really like the graphics and ability to watch my swings for each shot. To me, that's a really important feature. Also, you didn't compare prices and mention is Rapsodo is one of the least costly devices (under $250 on Amazon during BF), as well as mevo, which is around $349 no subscription fees.

I can well imagine the planning go out this video out. Excellent presentation. I’ve got the Mevo mini and while I’m happy with data accuracy (tested with a GC Quad and it was within a metre), the lack of certain features like shot shape and face angle / angle of attack is a huge minus when one is hitting into nets. G10 seems strong for 2021/22. Thanks.
After seeing your great review I bought a Garmin r10 as fast as I could. It is a great product especially for the money. I also have a PRGR and that is great as well for around 200. The r10s only issue is the spin but overall it has no match because you get a good idea of shot shape into a net.
David I tested my R10 against a 15k Flightscope at an outdoor range and like you found all numbers very good except spin. After the latest software update I tested indoors against a Trackman hitting into a net about 15 feet away and everything thing was really accurate including the spin. I couldn’t believe the improvement in spin accuracy. I did wonder was it also because indoors the net was further away than probably most people can have in a garage or in a backyard.
AWESOME REVIEW.... i think for me the Garmin G80 is the one for me......like the GPS and launch monitor combo and its compact ....I had the s62 watch and found that i didn't need alot of the features....i like the features on the G80 it will tell me what i need to know on the course and the launch monitor feature is a great bonus....cheers all from Canada
Good video, I tried the Rapsodo and it absolutely awful. When my iPhone wasn’t overheating, or losing connection I found the app and user interface to be clunky and counterintuitive. Picked up the Garmin G80 and it has been great. I wasn’t sure about the numbers but I took it to PGA Superstore and it was pretty accurate (+/- 4-5 yards) when compared to what I was getting in their hitting bay which was pretty impressive and the best part is it’s also a full functioning GPS unit. Also you can play any of the preloaded courses on the unit which is an awesome feature! I played Pebble Beach the other day lol. You can also compete with others and there is a great target training option as well.
A few points... G80 should be put on a golf ball to watch your shots from an angle, it has a special dimple at back. As an R10 user, I must say that it is NOT that friendly. Sometimes it is not obvious it is "on" when you start it, sometimes it disconnects from the app when you smbd calls you and it goes into standby, and waking it up needs restarting the app (stop/start a session and so on). Also, an app is terribly programmed, it needs REALLY powerful phone to work properly. Like top models. And still, it sometimes stalls. But is the closest to a simulator you can get for this money. IF you can get it. If you will see this in a shop, get it, you can easily make some money by selling it on a ebay ;-) Shops in my location say that it won't be available till next year...
Great review. I have the Mevo. Should also -2 for not having some sort of target/random yard mode for practice. I think all the others do have this feature.
Had a Rapsodo MLM and it was a mess. Wouldn't read shots and it killed battery on your phone. When it worked it was very accurate though. I was able to sell it and got a Garmin R10. It is much better. Shot shape can be off at times but distances seem good and all the other features work well too. For whatever reason it doesn't pick up my PW though. It keeps recording it as 30 yards short. It just doesn't like that one club. I only use it at the range. I know some people say it isn't that great indoors into a net.
Very helpful, I have been looking at a couple the ones you rated. It was the Mevo or the R-10. Definitely going R-10 now. Was surprised the G-80 did so well. That looks like it would be great on the course.
The font said G80 at the end when introducing the first overall.....but awesome vid.....still slightly undecided.....but somebody gonna buy me one of em for Xmas!
Just my opinion but I think you nailed it. Rhapsody was a little lower then I thought it would be, love the shot tracer on it and being an Apple guy I didn’t even realize it wasn’t compatible with android.
Great summary. Thanks. The one flaw in your analysis is not weighting the features measured. For example accuracy should have a higher weighting than ease of setting up (within reason). Would be interesting to see how the rankings changed with some level of weighting for each feature measured by level of importance.
There is no one "right" way to weight the features, and each person should consider how they plan to use it, and determine the weights that apply to them. For example, I'll be using a launch monitor on the range only, meaning I will have to set it up each time, and also that I will be hitting range balls, which means that and accurate distance still won't tell me much, whereas portability, battery life, and ease of setup will be very important. For someone who plans to use it indoors, with good balls, ease of setup and portability are not important at all, while accuracy will matter more.
Great vid with tons of info. You took me off the fence I had been looking at the Rapsodo and the R10. I'm a beginner looking to improve ball striking and I really need something like this Thanks!
I have had great sucess with the Ernest Sports B 1 and hooked up with my I Pad for all the data and voice feed back...can change lofts and all...Also Made in America....Works for Me....
Hey hey, great video once again. Which one allows you to play some courses digitally while at the range? And will you do an updated video on this, I'm sure some of the new devices will compete better nowadays?
What an excellent review........I loved the categorization of the features and the points system for each.......I now have a clearer idea of which launch monitor I am going to purchase
I've seen the PRGR Black up against a Flightscope and it was really good for distance. Also, it will measure swing speed without a ball which is pretty handy indoors.
Hi! Thanks for youre great videos! I think you must put the garmin G 80 on a ball to give it 45 degres angle. So it's suppose to be very precise. Greating!
Thank you, this was very useful! The G80 did pretty well considering it kind of has launch monitor as a bonus only but is really a GPS… Now, an interesting question is how would a combination G80 and TruSwing rate using the same criteria? I’ve got both, and R10 on order, but Garmin can’t seem to be able to deliver here in down under - ordered in mid Aug and still no confirmed delivery time, estimate only in December - so wondering is it worth the headache to wait and wait… Thoughts?
I own a couple of these...i would say i bought the g80 as a gps (and it's brilliant at that)- you can input all the scores for 4 players (most gps do 1or2 players) the use of it against the others as a launch monitor is a little unfair as that's not its primary function....to me the launch monitor use of it is mostly for fun rather than accurate club data...for me the garmin r10 is garmins launch monitor so i would recommend r10 of these launch monitors and g80 as a great gps with some fun features to take the range.
Very nice recap of the "affordable" launch monitors. Bought the Swing Caddie 3i early this year, and have been very happy with it. But, at that time the Garmin R10 had not even released. Not sure had it been out I would have gone for the R10, but the full simulator makes it likely. Just glad it doesn't seem the 300i was a poor purchase by the end of the year.
I love the SC300i. Great accuracy and although it doesn't have the simulator, it's still very accurate and there's no monthly fee either. So that's a bonus.
Now for people that do not have an at-home golf range/sim, how's the g80 stack up? I absolutely love the feature you use often in your videos of tracking real distances on your shots. It's actually more expensive than I thought it'd be though
Yes I wish they dropped the price a bit. It’s getting a little long in the tooth. Unfortunately it really doesn’t work as a home simulator. It’s a good launch monitor outdoors and also has the GPS functions I like.
Any shot shape changes for the R10 in 2022? I do like to see the tracer lines and all the other data. Thanks and great video demo’ing all the monitors!
I purchased the R10 but not had much time to use it yet. I am going to an indoor dome today that has Toptracer so I can do some comparisons against it. Planing to go there twice a week during the winter to practice my new single plane swing. So I have a somewhat related question for viewers. What is the coldest weather you golf in that is comfortable enough to enjoy a round. I live in Michigan and the season is about over, but a lot of course are still open. With the weather in the 50s it seems decent enough to golf maybe nine. Just wondering. Great job again with the comparison. Seemed very fair to me and not just because I have an R10 !!
42’ish and up is still manageable but anything below 40 and certainly in the 30s requires a golf cart cover and heater, UA undershirt and jacket, and 2 layers of pants, etc. I’m in my 40s now and I don’t care for it but my Dad is in his late 60s and still goes out there with his regulars!
I had an SC300 and found it terrible for accuracy. It consistently gave me an exaggerated carry distance. Not only do I know my carry distances pretty well (I’m a scratch handicap) but I compared this device to a Trackman and again, carry distance was WAY off with the SC300. I presently have a Mevo which I found to be much more accurate. I have never tried the R10. I might have to try one. Thanks for the thorough review.
I like the point system but......You dinged the the Rapsodo because of a some inconsequential items..1. Battery life-your not gonna be out there at each session for more than a couple of hours anyway and your phone will be an issue before the unit is. 2. Durability-you dinged it because your iPhone overheats...thats not on the unit itself but the phones. Durability should be on how long do you think the unit will hold up quality wise. 3. no Android use-I get it but its not really measuring its value against the other units. ...I do not have a unit YET so I appreciate the analysis. Thanks for the video I follow all of them.
Outdoor net where I can find shade for the Rapsodo helps the device work better than when the device and iPhone gets fried on the range when the sun is beating down. Now if you hit balls at sunrise and sunset no overheat issues I guess.
I feel like the everyone jumped onto of the Rapsodo and I picked one up and was EXTREMELY disappointed with it mainly the app and indoors it constantly would crash and got very frustrating and had a really hard time picking up shots I’d go 5-10 shots in a row with nothing wouldn’t pick it up at all very interested in the Swing Caddie SC300i tho 🤙🏻
Lots of good points made - thanks for the review. You dinged the SC300i a little for portability’s due to size, but when considering the case, it fits in a bag more easily than the R10, which is uber-thick. You also don’t need a phone or any other device - just turn it on, place it on the ground and start hitting. Hard to beat that for portability. I’d still prefer the R10, though. Now, if I could only find one…
Intersteing that the Rapsodo finished so low. My Golf Spy had it #1 over these same units. I guess to each his own. I would have liked to see the accuracy tested against a GC Quad so the results would have been tangible in lieu of feel. Great video though. Keep it coming!! I forgot that Rapsodo has the coach connect which allows you to send videos directly to coaches for advice.
go to golficity youtube channel. they test the rapsodo and the g10 against a gc quad and the rapsodo comes closer to the gc quad measurements than the g10
This has been the video I’ve been waiting for. I’ve got an R10 on order but it’s on a 8 week back order. I picked it after watching several videos, but was going to cancel and try the sc300i, but based on this video I think I’ll wait out the R10. Great video!! (Quick side note, your winner shows the R10 picture, it the graphic shows “Garmin G80”)
😬Oh man, I know. I noticed it after it went live. I really wish youtube would let me edit it too. Oh well nothing is perfect 🤷. I think you will enjoy the R10 for sure. Will be worth the wait.
Hi. Thx for the overview. Question .... when I hit driver i have to hit the ball in an upward direction. Which off these monitors measure that? My pro had a big flightscope but I want to practise without paying my pro :).
I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these. My takeaway was the swing caddie is number one for at the range and if you want both range and simulator the r10? Would you agree? I dont think I'll use a sim and will just use at the range
In my opinion, yes, that’s spot on. I really love the easy set up with the swing caddie as well as being able to see the numbers on the unit. Garmin def has the cool factor and additional gameplay.
Could you please update the software on your Garmin G80 and update your loser review? Many changes including club tracking. I’ve read about the software update but haven’t seen a review yet! Thanks
Thanks. Great review period very inclusive and detailed. Super appreciate your effort. Curious about your opinion on the PRGR at $229. Most of my use will be indoor. Is there any of the seven that you consider better at indoor versus outdoor?
Prgr is really good for swing speed and ball speed. Overall distance isn't as good. But for swing speed (where you don't even need to hit a ball) is really good for the price. Just don't lose it.
I have the G80, and I have the Skytrak at home. The G80 is the coolest golf device I have. I feel naked when I forget it at home; I hate playing without it.
Question: which do you recommend for hitting indoors into a net for practice & improvement with a requirement of shot tracer or simulator capability. Ps I have a PRGR which I set next to my Pro's TrackMan & found to be surprisingly accurate
I originally purchased the g80 but I returned to buy the Garmin Aproach S62 watch which I love. My next purchase will be the Garmin R10 when it becomes available. Ugh!
Which ones are best for on the course and outdoor range? I hear Garmin r10 is better for indoor only and takes awhile to set up and didn't work on outdoor ranges as well.
I want the R10 for the Sim, I play as a Game of Life, lower hdcp rt now. I am not worried about breaking 70. Fairways and greens in REAL Life is boring, but, if I can do it on a SIM. Ding ding ding.
Hi, does anyone know if the Garmin R10 is good/accurate for outside cage set-up? I am now the proud owner of a full size 3M x 3M x3M cage and net in my back garden, so now wondering if the R10 would be good for this, or if it's only really suitable for proper outdoor ranges? Many thanks Andrew
I would like to see an add "extendable" to use for other apps/sims and just use the device for raw data which is then applied to some other sim. Not so sure the garmin units will play well with others based on my experience with other garmin units in their ecosystem... E6 is fine, but crazy $$$ and the goal here is budget imo.
Any comparisons done using these indoors with a net? I tested an R10 and found it to be absolutely brutal indoors , accuracy for all clubs was way off (setup was done according to Garmin instructions and tips researched online). Just curious how you would rank these using an indoor setup. I don't know how many of these units can be used indoors, but I would be interested in seeing that comparison as all of us in the NE are holed up indoors for a few months and need something to get our golf fix.
Doppler radars are going to be tough indoors one way or the other. That said, make sure that you have updated to the latest Garmin firmware. I know that has helped a lot of folks get much better indoor accuracy. Good luck.
Shaggy I have one and in my experience the more distance the better, particularly to get accurate spin numbers. I think an average garage in the UK is too short.

What did you end up getting?
Thanks for a straight up comparison .has helped me a lot .
I have had great sucess with the Ernest Sports B 1 and hooked up with my I Pad for all the data and voice feed back...can change lofts and all...Also Made in America....Works for Me....
Mevo (and probably many others as well) sell an additional external battery you can "backpack" on the unit to extend the usage times.
Hey hey, great video once again. Which one allows you to play some courses digitally while at the range? And will you do an updated video on this, I'm sure some of the new devices will compete better nowadays?
SC300i no problem here with setup. Worked first time, every time.
What an excellent review........I loved the categorization of the features and the points system for each.......I now have a clearer idea of which launch monitor I am going to purchase
Awesome, glad to hear it was helpful Richard
Gabe, first praying for your health issue. Second, you nailed it. Very comprehensive and thought out.
David, thank you so much my friend!
A fantastic video. Big thanks for all the data comparisons!
Awesome glad it was helpful
I own a couple of these...i would say i bought the g80 as a gps (and it's brilliant at that)- you can input all the scores for 4 players (most gps do 1or2 players) the use of it against the others as a launch monitor is a little unfair as that's not its primary function....to me the launch monitor use of it is mostly for fun rather than accurate club data...for me the garmin r10 is garmins launch monitor so i would recommend r10 of these launch monitors and g80 as a great gps with some fun features to take the range.
I will review this report another time or two, before shelling out the cash. Nicely done.
A fantastic video really informative and interesting and enjoyed the presentation immensely!
Just watched this review - really well done. Question - does the shot tracer work when hitting into the net on the Rapsoto?
Your videos are always top notch. Love you channel.
That's a great question, looking forward to hearing everyone's answers. 50º is max for me I think.
When the greens are frozen or there is snow, that is usually the best time to consider staying at home
Just ordered my garmin r10! Can't wait to use it hehe
Nobody says a scratch handicap!! When you say scratch, it is assumed that is your handicap!!
Thanks for the video I follow all of them.
fantastically detailed review! New sub right here! TY
Glad it was helpful, welcome to the channel Matt
Do any of these show the dispersion / direction that you hit the ball? Straight, Draw, Hook, Push, Slice, etc. ??
You tested the accuracy of just distance with range finder? How about comparing vs a trakman?
You chose the best way to evaluate these units. That is by assigning a point system that is fair and then totaling them up to reveal the winner.
Yes, gotta admit, that was a suggestion from someone here in the LPT community. I'll definitely try do this more going forward.
Are any of the models better with a net indoors versus outside on the range?
Thanks I wish I had a GC Quad to go up against, maybe someday!
go to golficity youtube channel. they test the rapsodo and the g10 against a gc quad and the rapsodo comes closer to the gc quad measurements than the g10
Hey I appreciate your content thank you!
Did my research and came to the same conclusion I've had the R10 for a few weeks and I'm super happy it's was $879.00 in Australia.
They let you play golf? Aren't you locked down?
@@hsmissett haha yep we were just came out of it then but you could still play golf and the driving range.
You convinced me to get the Costco Callaway clubs, now it's time to choose a launch monitor!
Godspeed! It can be a baffling decision. Hopefully this sheds a bit of light on what's important for you.
Really useful video! Thanks a lot
That's a shame. I was really ready to pull the trigger on the Rapsodo . But I have an Android. They have to change that. Great video keep them coming
Bottom line is it’s a great, in depth video, exactly what I was looking for. It’s a great video and helped me a ton. Thanks!!
R10 all day long, really affordable and really easy to use
Love this video. Thank you.
Which device is the best for indoor use, accuracy. Space needed indoor? Can it give you club speed info without a ball, etc
Hi. Thx for the overview. Question .... when I hit driver i have to hit the ball in an upward direction.
Which off these monitors measure that? My pro had a big flightscope but I want to practise without paying my pro :).
All will show launch angle. Club face data only on the Garmin R10
@@LetsPlayThru launch angle. I didn't know what its called. Thx for reply
Have you tried Yupiteru GST-7? It’s less than $150 but can track club speed, ball speed and carry distance.
Thank you. Can you update which service (Bluetooth or WiFi) connects to phones?
Any way of listing in a table which launch monitor supports what golf software playing programs (TGC 2019, E6 , FSX Play etc... ) ? Thanks !!
Thanks. Great review Gabe.
At the end, you said Garmin R10 is 1st Place, but the graphic says it’s a Garmin G80. Oops!
Thanks Michael, I'll get that part blurred out. Cheers.
Have your heard of the manufacturing problems with the Garmin G80? I am going to have to select the Swing Caddie SC300i. Thank you
Could you please update the software on your Garmin G80 and update your loser review? Many changes including club tracking. I’ve read about the software update but haven’t seen a review yet! Thanks
Thanks. Great review period very inclusive and detailed. Super appreciate your effort. Curious about your opinion on the PRGR at $229. Most of my use will be indoor. Is there any of the seven that you consider better at indoor versus outdoor?
Prgr is really good for swing speed and ball speed. Overall distance isn't as good. But for swing speed (where you don't even need to hit a ball) is really good for the price.
Just don't lose it.
Great review but why wasn’t the PRGR launch monitor included? I’ve read that one is a leader among personal launch monitors
It retails at $250 for a reason 🤔
I have the G80, and I have the Skytrak at home. The G80 is the coolest golf device I have. I feel naked when I forget it at home; I hate playing without it.
Yes, it’s so underrated
Question: which do you recommend for hitting indoors into a net for practice & improvement with a requirement of shot tracer or simulator capability. Ps I have a PRGR which I set next to my Pro's TrackMan & found to be surprisingly accurate
R10 or if you can stretch the budget then SkyTrak or Mevo+
Great job. Thanks!
I originally purchased the g80 but I returned to buy the Garmin Aproach S62 watch which I love. My next purchase will be the Garmin R10 when it becomes available. Ugh!
Good review, thanks
Thank you for sharing!
Love your reviews.
i would love to get R10 in US but can't find a retailer that has. Garmin says 4-5 weeks. does Playbetter have it in stock?
You nailed it 🏌🏻♂️👍🏻
Thanks Christian
Which ones are best for on the course and outdoor range? I hear Garmin r10 is better for indoor only and takes awhile to set up and didn't work on outdoor ranges as well.
It’s the opposite, r10 works better outside and not as good indoors
What Dan said :)
Do any of these trackers work if hitting plastic balls indoors in a net? (No real distance)
I want the R10 for the Sim, I play as a Game of Life, lower hdcp rt now. I am not worried about breaking 70.
Fairways and greens in REAL Life is boring, but, if I can do it on a SIM. Ding ding ding.
Gabe I was able to add clubs using the app. However, I cannot select them for practice or training. Any suggestions?
Great review!
Many thanks
Andrew
Good luck.
How much ball flight do you need for the Garmin R10 to work? In my garage I'm about 6 feet from my net
Shaggy I have one and in my experience the more distance the better, particularly to get accurate spin numbers. I think an average garage in the UK is too short.
The R10 users manual recommends 8 feet from ball to net and another 6 feet from the ball back to the R10.
