Had my G80 a couple months, overall very satisfied. I found a Major flaw with a specific range ball, Wilson Limited Distance range balls all gave no readings. I contacted Garmin and they started a case file. I also contacted Wilson and awaiting answers back. From my understanding the Wilson Limited Distance range ball has metal inside and messed with the doppler. Had to switch from my local range to a new range using Srixon range balls and no problems.
I looked into this unit a while back, very in depth review. I didn't know it had the feature where you can play a virtue round. The launch monitor supposed to be very accurate.
Great review. Measure feature looks cool on course. I saw past mixed reviews on range feature comparing to sc300. I would never expect any device to figure out my bad shots. Dam trying to type "shots" on my phone the auto correct is annoying, sorry phone rant.
It's funny looking back on this. The G80 is still a great GPS but as far as a Launch Monitor it has been well and truly superseded by the Garmin R10. Still, prior to getting the R10 I loved using the G80 as a Launch Monitor and it certainly made range sessions a lot more interesting and stimulating getting feedback shot by shot or playing the virtual games.
No doubt, but the G80 is one unit, in a small package, that's also a GPS for the course. Much easier to justify since it is cheaper, is useful when you play, and can give you some stats about your swing in LM mode.
This may sound like an odd question. I bought the Garmin Epix gen 2 watch based on your excellent review. As you know, it also has good GPS features. I like the G80 mostly for its launch monitor feature. Does the G80 integrate with Garmin connect? I would rather it not as I am using my watch with the c10 sensors to track my shots. I found that if I also opened my Garmin app on the phone while my watch was working, it can erase the data your watch collects. I would love to use the g80 for a larger screen view while playing and be more able to visualize shots and yardage estimates, but don’t want it interfering with my game stats being recording of my watch. In other words, have you tested using it while also using it with your Garmin s62 watch or your Epix 2 watch? Again, I am more interested in using it as a range launch monitor but want more value in using it while playing the course. Thanks for all your great reviews!
A little off topic, apologies have you ever tested the Mevo+ “Indoor Short Mode” I can’t find much info on it other than it only requires 16’ Is it as accurate as normal indoor mode
I don't have a golf watch, and right now I use Arccos on my phone. If you where me, would you get the G80 or the s62 golf watch? What would you recommend?
Great review,, but could you update it after installing the November 2021 software update? It adds quite a few features including club tracking. I’ve read the release notes but haven’t seen anyone review the update. Thanks

It's 2024 and just got one. Can't wait to get out there and use this thing.

That’s wild! I wonder why there’s metal in them?

I really want to test against the Mevo. Probably the next video. You have one right?
@@LetsPlayThru I've seen a comparison, they are really close, both very good. Yes, I have the mevo. Looking to buy the mevo+..
@@thebackyardgolfer7010 Wade got a Mevo plus. He’s waiting for it to ship. I guess they are on a really long back order

Yeah, the measure feature can be really helpful for sure. All around great features. I'm going to do a further review specifically on accuracy.
Great video, really well put together! Interesting product...makes me curious about the future of golf launch monitor tech.
Yeah I think we’ll see some really mind blowing tech in 2-3 years.
Fantastic channel for a long time now. 👏🏼
Thanks Ryan
I have a net in my backyard I need to get a launch monitor at some point. Great video Gabe. Looking forward to wensdays video.
If you’ve got the net already then something like this would definitely help
@@LetsPlayThru Yeah when I get home from this trip I am definitely going to invest in my backyard practice facility
When you measure shots.... Can you upload your whole round and see on map diagram on the garmin app your round? Thanks
Great review, Gabe! How accurate did you find the game mode & launch monitor to be? Thanks!
Accurate for distance to about 5 yards...but it doesn’t take right / left dispersion into account for game modes. But it’s fun

Awesome review! Love the argument intro, that was pretty good! Nice product! Garmin seems to make top of the line golf GPS devices .
Thanks Mark! Figured I’d start making reviews a bit more interesting. 😁
Curious to see how accurate this is. Are you going to do a follow up review after using for awhile?
Yes definitely
@@LetsPlayThru did you do the follow up? I can’t find it
I like the distance measure you use on G80. does the G62 watch also do that just like the G80 does?
The S62 does, yes
Have you reviewed the skycaddie 550 Gabe?

I have never connected my G80 into the app so It can definitely work independently
@@LetsPlayThru Thanks my friend. I was hoping I could use it as an independent unit without it auto connecting. Keep up the great videos!
A little off topic, apologies have you ever tested the Mevo+ “Indoor Short Mode” I can’t find much info on it other than it only requires 16’
Is it as accurate as normal indoor mode
Yes that’s what I mostly use. I find it to be accurate.
Will the Garmin G80 give you clubhead speed without actually hitting a ball? Like for use with a speed trainer. Thanks
Yes ! 👍
I don't have a golf watch, and right now I use Arccos on my phone. If you where me, would you get the G80 or the s62 golf watch? What would you recommend?
Wow, great question. I think I’d probably lean toward the S62.
@@LetsPlayThru that's the way I am leaning as well. The s62 looks amazing from your review. Thanks for replying 👍😀
@@LetsPlayThru any chance to see a S62 vs G80 video in regards to the features?
Another great review!
Many thanks Robert. BTW, chip is in the mail as of Saturday
@@LetsPlayThru Awesome, thanks again, and keep up the great content!
So I'm loving the G80 , confused how the calculation works if it doesn't read launch angle , do you know buddy ??
it uses Doppler radar, so it actually tracks the ball for a while in the air.
@@LetsPlayThru so wonder why they didn't add launch data !
How to decide between this G80 and the S62?
It’s tough but to boil it down....G80 if you want Launch monitor, s62 if you want stat tracking.
Great review,, but could you update it after installing the November 2021 software update? It adds quite a few features including club tracking. I’ve read the release notes but haven’t seen anyone review the update. Thanks
Looks like a good product!
Form factor makes it really nice. So small and compact.
it's disturbing that the monitor showed a 1.5 smash factor for a mid iron. 1.5 is the max smash for the driver, if hit perfectly.
Would make range time more exciting.
Definitely!
Its a GPS launch monitor??? HA HA HA
