I do a 50% change every Saturday morning, which is fine on my little 40ltr using a bucket and scoop. Instead of throwing the water away I use it on my house plants, or even the garden. The plants love all those nitrates (and residual fertilizer), no point wasting it!
I do bucket method for my 60p, 2x a week Thu & Sun. 1 bucket out, 1 bucket in. Took me less than 10 minutes of maintenance. Hate long hoses plus my tank is quite far from the water supply 😆
For those of you that have Oase Filters, and do not use the supplied Inlets/outlets, (Upgraded to lily pipes) the filter INLET (with the strainer) makes a great water change tool. you can buy whatever length of hose you need and attach. the strainer makes an awesome fish/soil/plant blocker when draining, and an awesome way to diffuse the water when filling. I can put my drain side right into my tub (no need to worry about debris because of the strainer) When I am ready to fill, I have a quick attach pump that I put in a bucket under the tub spout. I correct for temp, add my declor and ferts, and turn it on. Easy, hands free water changes!
I do a similar thing. I suction the water with the oase intake and it goes to the sink. Then connect the hose to the tap with the python connection and that’s it. Same hose, same oase intake.
Chills, you're a jolly good fellow. So, you deserve to get only positive comments forever. Great video, GreenAqua Family, as usual! Cheers from a resort called Angra (State of Rio de Janeiro), from this brazilian fan of yours.
Awesome job guys! I always learn something new from these types of video! I've often found that the filter hoses get stuck or are difficult to remove from the lily pipes, a really handy tip I've learned for getting the filter hoses off is to push the hose further up the pipe to break the seal first and then pulling it off, rather than trying to just pull the hose off the pipe, I unfortunately broke a couple before I learned this trick.
Great video. Shows me how much I've learnt. Seems overwhelming. But... its my favourite thing to do on day off. Go chills. Make a coffee. Music on and be artistic and maintain! If u do a little here and there. It's just a big one now and then!!!
Every Tuesday and Saturday of the week. Tuesday - just glass cleaning and 30% WC, Saturdays - Glass cleaning, OASE pre-filter cleaning, surface skimmer media change, trimming (if necessary), dead leaves removal and 50% water change etc...
Nice revamp! 🙂 Actually I change the water according to the tap water being distributed. During the winter, the tap water is like 15°C and I can adjust the temperature to the tank, changing 60-70%once per week. During summer the tap water comes at 27°C-28°C 🥵...so I prefer to change 20-30%, 3 times per week 👍
I have a 10 gallon aquarium that is fairly planted and with a decent amount of fish and snails and i do a water change every 3 months or so and my tank is always spotless and have never ran into any problems. Fish are even breeding nonstop .
Wow fantastic tank for a beginner looks great… once you get into a routine it’s easy 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 green aqua has some fantastic videos thanks for making ❤️
That seemed like a lot for her to do and learn,, (not saying she cant) ,, but people are busy and 2 times a week water change and trimming and so on requires So much dedication : )) hope she keeps up with it.
I'm sure she will. You are right, it is a lot, if you don't find a way to feel disconnected from the world while you work on the tank, and if this process is actually something you enjoy doing. I do enjoy doing water changes and trimming, cleaning algae from the glass, it lets my thoughts run freely. :) Maybe it's just me...
I love this video! i wish i was living in Hungary so I can have direct access to green aqua!!! the aquarium looks awesome post the maintenance session. Im bet Chill is delighted!
I change the water two times in a week about 50%. I need an Bucephalandra guide, all that i have are ugly i don't know why. Great video it helps a lot.
Beautiful island decorated by the great Balazs wonderful description and chills learn so fast you guys doing good job fans please get the subs for green 💚 aqua.
so amazing informative video. trimming session is amazing. removing extra growth of vals is awesome. water change pipe i need only that are amazing tools . Make over is so beautiful. great job balazas sir. super happy. goldy
I run a submersible pump in a bucket to do my water changes both ways, with s standard Syphon hose from the tank to the bucket... And I get at least 3 amino shrimps in my bucket 🤣. They love the rollercoaster ride of the Syphon hose
When assembling external filter, I set up everything normally, open all valves and suck the air from filter outflow. This removes the bubble on the top of the curve and gravity does the rest :-)
I also make water changes once per week. I like your water change system with hoses but I think is more useful for people who uses RO water. For people that use tap water(me) we need to know how many liters of water we are putting in to add the exact amount of dechlorinator
hey, so for now .. again a super relaxed video. i love it haha .. soo i have a question or better a please .. can you watch a video about one or more water change systems for example for different requirements or in general about different ideas that you had or have carried out yourself. thank you very much and for more videos from you !! ps: I think it's so awesome that you are accompanied by the nice woman (sorry, I forgot her name 😄) I hope something will come for a long time and in general that would be very interesting in my opinion if it is more often to look at with other people .
Very nice video, it's so helpful ! I'm gonna start my first planted tank very soon but i would like to use RO water. Could you explain to us how to do the maintenance with the whole RO system please ? :)
Any guide to plant maintenance like how to trim ferns for smaller leaf growth or cutting back anubias for branching? Some of the finer details of plant trimming are hard to find!
Try 5L watering cans for small tanks. That's what I use for my 20g which is more comfortable than buckets. And when you let the new water rest for 24hrs you don't even need Prime or such because chlorine will have dissipated by then.
0:35 I am only harsh about animal cruelty Wich is non-existent on this channel. But you see it in many facebook groups. "Its my tank, i do what i want" Betta's in a jar, Angels in a 60 P tank and the people who advice clown loaches for nano tanks with a snail problem.. i cant stand those ! But i love to share all my knowledge with anyone who wants to learn and wants best for their fish, shrimps, snails etc. Endless patience and support for them.
I use the same hose for taking water out and refilling. Much easier, cheaper and less hassle. Can’t think of valid reason not to. Also I don’t bother filling the inflow tube with water like you did. The filter will suck that side anyhow. You might need to press the filter prime knob once. Ok, there will be some air in your filter which makes noise and disturbs, but that’s gone in a minute or 2.
Added benefit: when you store it filled, it will be filled with fresh RO (or tap) water. Much less chance of algae blooms developing in the tube. And store the tube in the dark, like a closet!
The water change, and not sure how it in your country, but in the UK and Portugal if you add water straight from the tap, the hot water, it may kill your fish, because the water comes through copper pipes.
Team disaster xD I rebuild rn my 55l tank, i wasn't regular on my maintenances, et get a lot of staghorn (and i had a Co² empty bottle for one week so...) xD green aqua video + learn my from my mistakes should do the trick ^^
You'd be surprised with fish, had a Panda Cory get too curious and swim straight into my pipe, it got stuck in the middle of the pipe and I ended up cutting the pipe open to get it out. Its still alive and well today haha
Hard water from the tap, top up with filtered water from a kettle system designed to take out most of the hardness or water from a condensing tumble drier, otherwise the water will get harder and harder like the Dead Sea. Big water changes are great so long as you don't stress the fish and the tap water isn't high in Nitrates or Phosphates. Big changes temperature and Chlorine are often issues. Good luck.
I change 120 l of water every week (half the total volume of aquarium). Very hard water, straight from the tap. Got rid od external filter as cleaning the dirty pipes was very messy. Now, with internal filter I finally enjoy the maintenance. Got a water pump as relying on gravity do not work when sending water 10 m down the hose to the toilette bowl. Just wanna say do what suits you best and your aquarium. It should ve hobby not a labour.
I find that JBL aqua in-out (which is the one you seem to be using?) will almost instantly clog if i don't use the default "vacuuming" part on the other end that has a kind of a filter to stop bigger stuff from entering the hose. How do you manage to keep it unclogged with just hose on the other end? For getting out the muck from the hoses after cleaning i just use the priming button and direct the outflow hose into a bucket 😂
Use a booster pump on your RO and larger capacity membranes. This way you can speed up the production and can lead the RO production with a big RO tube directly to your aquarium at water change
Hi GreenAqua, im new for this hobby, after we flood our tank for the first time. How much bps of co2 should we supply to the plant after DSM? No fish yet at the moment..
How often you change the water in your aquarium? 😀
Twice a week
Once per week!
Once a week!
10% every other week or less.
20% once a week
I do a 50% change every Saturday morning, which is fine on my little 40ltr using a bucket and scoop.
Instead of throwing the water away I use it on my house plants, or even the garden. The plants love all those nitrates (and residual fertilizer), no point wasting it!
Alright thats another brilliant video i could watch these all day and night and i leaning so much from green aqua .❤❤❤❤
I agree with Chill. It looks very easy when you (Balazs) do it.
But when I try to do it, it's hard and gets messy every time.
i like the addition of the new rocks, it really made the island more pronounced. Great work.
You are really lucky... I want Balaz in my home making maintenance!!! Green aqua is the best contribution to aqua scape ever!
Always good to review the basics ! Way to go Chills ! Nice little tank ! Thumbs up GA team !

I loved the the way how u described everything . It really was helpful
Thanks for all the beautiful videos you are making. A nice mix of different subjects explained very clear. Thanks Green Aqua team for all the effort!
Off topic, that blue diffused light off the wall is gorgeous
Have you tackled on the topic on common fish diseases in this channel? So that beginners can be aware on what to do if it ever affects their aquariums

Hey^^ quick tipp: Put the diffusor in the chlorine while its running. So no chlorine can enter the membrane.

I suggest using the water from the aquarium for watering flowers at home. You will see how they will grow

Is the best to fertilize just after a water change ? (and even if i put seachem Prime to dechlorinate water ?)
Hi guys, how do you guys treat your wood so it doesn’t go a yellowish tint from the tannins.

Hi Balaz great video but..... Where did you buy your T shirt its absolutely amazing haha
@ Green Aqua : do I need a DI cartridge on my reverse osmosis system ? What is ideal ?
Not needed for freshwater

Hi GreenAqua, im new for this hobby, after we flood our tank for the first time. How much bps of co2 should we supply to the plant after DSM? No fish yet at the moment..
Just as much as otherwise. Too much CO2 will drop the pH a lot which decrease the filter performance.
I used to do a once a week on my 10 gallon but then I saw a video from father fish saying not to throw out good water and only the dirty water
Thank you
Chills: i think you are very tired ? 🙄😉😋
Too much info. LOL.
I usually just top off my tanks and only do water change when I scrape the glass and algae, which it’s not that often
i never change water at all. If the balance is good the algae doesnt grow and it looks clean all the time.
