I wish there were more videos like this out there. I'm always interested in the long term evolution of an aquascape, how it looks when it's just planted, when it's going through growing pains, what it looks like when matured, and how it looks when it's maintained for a year or more. Obviously, challenging to accomplish from the content creation side, but very educational for us viewers :)
I think this video is a perfect addition to the channel! It really helps visualize putting all of the great advice to practice! 😁👍🏼 Edit : And always love to see more of Tommy!
I love this video! Finally someone is showing the everyday issues we all face when setting up an aquarium. Personally, I had constant problems with driftwood. It took ages before it went to the bottom and I had a huuuge growth of the fungy slimely thing you also mentioned. Unfortunately, in my case neither otos neither amanos didn't want to consume it, so I was left alone with a toothbrush... I really had to be patient but it's getting nicer and nicer and I envy my husband who's working from home and can observe it almost all day long.
Week 4 here. Plants are doing well. Shrimps (Mini japonica) introduced week 3. No alges, only had bacteries on the wood but they disappeared a few days ago. Next week 20 Rasbora Galaxy as a first start. Fingers crossed 🤭!
Looked everywhere for a video like this! Thank you! Very reassuring and helps me weighs my pros and cons with my tank set up. I'm making a planted now so this is awsome!
This was a really useful guide - do more of these please :) Also thanks for all the time and effort you put into making them - I learn little tips from each video that has helped my tanks a great deal.

Thank You Tommy fo Your efford to take us for this constant 9-week jurney! It was great pleasure to follow the work. The most important issue You placed at the end: The aquascaping it's not only succes, but also bad issues. Despite this it's allways "our perfect world to create"! That's why we all love that!!!🤗😉
Super informative! I agree that most videos are all about the scaping and first day, like a honeymoon phase. But the following 1-3 months after set up are where crucial adjustments/maintenance have to happen to have a successful tank. Thanks for doing this! One of my fav videos you guys have done: practical and realistic.
Great video, very knowledgeable and helpful! I did notice one discrepancy and that was that Tommy said that the slime on the wood was fungus, this is actually the tree sap that gets expelled from the wood as the water in the tank takes its place. No hate I just thought I would point that out. Fantastic video!
Yep wondering the same thing. I have huge green algae problem that I have to siphon out every 2-3 days. Been doing half nutrients and I've cut down my light to 5 hours at full intensity. This just started so have no idea if it's going to work.
Hey Hey Tommy👋 I'm really enjoying watching The journey of this tank!! I love how you put the wood together (thank you Lori 😂🤗💚) I agree the subject of fertilizers has always been confusing.. but I've learned a lot with you guys and I thank you so much for all the experience you share!! So I've made it to setting up my second aquascape. I set one up for my daughter!! All of your tips have absolutely helped me create more successful aquariums!!🙏 The daisy rice fish are stunners and definitely deserve more attention! This video is really helping me in what to expect with the newly planted tank! We are just on week one so we're looking forward to seeing it grow in! One thing we don't have right now is a proper light and actually had to set up a DIY one. Definitely aquascaping on a budget 😁 we are looking for some Otto's now!! Thank you all so much for all the tips with the tools!! Another great tutorial!! I hope everybody there at Green Aqua is having a very blessed weekend!!🙏💚🌿🐟🌿
Great video! I wish there were more videos or updates made on tanks that are new setups. It really helps us to know we are not doing something wrong when we experience problems or surprises. Thank you for this.

At last a video from day 1!! Could you please answer two more things which I was missing from the video: 1. Do I have to decrease the light intensity in the first few weeks and how many hours should I let them on. 2. The CO2 should be running all the time on low or normal dose and should stop 2 hours before the lights go off. Thank you for the great video!
We always use full light intensity from day 1. 8 hours per day. We start the CO2 two hours before the lights and stop it with the lights. Check out our tutorials on the channel, there's a playlist. Cheers.
Oh gosh that rock falling... My heart Tommy...! Fantastic video. Great learning, thank u, wish I had know about the slime on wood when I started, I panicked, but I learned. Tank Looks great too 🥰 And love listening to u
Get a python siphon or something similar. It makes it much easier then doing buckets if that's what you are doing. I have a 75 gallon just set up and though it takes a while to do the water changes it sure beats carrying bucket after bucket of water back and forth.
Learning process, you'll figure out a lot of things like, do I have enough filtration? How's my water flow? Are my lights on to much, too little? Am I dosing enough ferts, or to much? It's a balance issue we all go through and it's frustration. This video makes it look like it's easy but it's not. These guys have been doing this for years so they know how to set up everything to work better than the rest of us. Not that I'm down playing the video, it's a good one, just not enough explanation to all the questions I just presented to you.
I learn so much from your videos! My new 180 tank is now going 8 weeks and looking good sofar. It is a work in progress and I need all the help I can get to make it perfect! Thank you!

At about 9:58 you put the lily pipe into liquid. I guess that it is your CleanIt liquid requiring 30-60 minutes time to be effective. Is it OK for the bacteria in the external filter to have the filter turned off for that amount of time?
I have launched my first “ada powered” aquarium, with soil, fully planted, with ferts etc. And I have to say - it’s doing so well that it became boring and I had to start a second aquarium :) thanks guys for inspiration in guidelines
Thank you! You got me started this new hobby after watching all your videos. I guess this video came at the right time, I am 2 weeks into the new water cycle and I noticed my Monte Carlo and Staurogyne repens started melting away and thread algae forming around it. Any idea why is it so? And what should I do?
Algae comes because of the melting. The melting is a transformation of the plant into the underwater form. We do see that sometimes, with lean fertilizers we like to add more Nitrate and Phosphate ferts on the side to promote growth.
Very informative, especially about fertilizing in vitro plants. What do you do for lighting at the beginning though? Do you use a dimmer and then ramp up?
Loved the layout!!!! Never trust wood 😁... I've seen 4kg wood piece glued to rocks and it started floating when filling with water. Seen it happen with 7kg wood piece too 😂. To answer what happened to my first weeks of new layout... Well, been a lucky bastard when it comes to that and really never seen any algae outbreak. Only floating wood 😅! Keep it up with GreenAqua great videos!

Just a suggestion.. maybe you could do a video about rushing an aquascape. Effects of not having the correct equipment like lights, filter, substrate and others..
Thanks for the video. Just started a planted tank myself, for the first time (coming from saltwater). I do have a question about the snails you put in, what KH and pH for those species?
We never measure any of those parameters. :) Check out our CO2 and water chemistry tutorial. I know, for someone coming from saltwater this is unheard of. LOL. You know too much.
Good Evening Thanks for this vedio I have a low tec planted aquarium it is 350 L aquarium I am having 2 filters installed eheim proffisonal 3 1200 plus aquael ultramax 1500 I will have 8 angel fish plus 3 siamese algae eater. Is this filters ok or I havr to reduce. Thanks
Quick question. In the First week with daily wc. I go in with ferts before I Turn on the lights. And when lights go off Im planning to make the wc. Should I go in with ferts again Then or w8 until next day when its time to photosynthesis again? 😀
Hi the Team (Armel from France) Nice video. Very instructive. 2 Questions : 1 - To put fish and algae eaters so fast (2 and 3 weeks) - how have you accelerated the nitrogen cycle ? 2 - When you do a 50% water change every day for the first week, when you add fertilizers after adding water, the new proportions are calculated on 100% of the liter? or 50% of the liter ? Bye !
Nothing like a good old nature style 😁. One question, do you follow ADA recommendations for dosing the fertilization? You also use always Purigen in the filter, right? Great video! Thanks!
No cringe jokes or intro..pure aquascaping knowledge. Nice one Tomy😂😂

We never measure any of those parameters. :) Check out our CO2 and water chemistry tutorial. I know, for someone coming from saltwater this is unheard of. LOL. You know too much.
Good Evening Thanks for this vedio I have a low tec planted aquarium it is 350 L aquarium I am having 2 filters installed eheim proffisonal 3 1200 plus aquael ultramax 1500
I will have 8 angel fish plus 3 siamese algae eater.
Is this filters ok or I havr to reduce. Thanks
I'm exactly at this stage in my tank experience so this is perfect! Want to keep my Panda Corys and Koi Betta happy
Love to hear this helps in some way 😃
Nice informative video. Would you keep the water change schedule even if you’re using tap water? I noticed all this information was for RO…
Quick question. In the First week with daily wc. I go in with ferts before I Turn on the lights. And when lights go off Im planning to make the wc. Should I go in with ferts again Then or w8 until next day when its time to photosynthesis again? 😀
It does not matter! But plants won't need ferts during the night anyway.
Excellent video Tommy, I learnt a lot, thank you!
You are welcome!
Bye !
1. Yes, bacteria and frequent water changes, and big filters, always.
2. yes. always fertilize back. 100% of the tank.
@@GreenAquaShop Thx for your return. Keep the faith !
Cheers!
Nothing like a good old nature style 😁. One question, do you follow ADA recommendations for dosing the fertilization? You also use always Purigen in the filter, right? Great video! Thanks!
Yup, we do follow their guidelines and use Purigen as well on for of our aquariums 👍
Good video... Very concise, much appreciated 👍😎
Thanks, cheers
