Part of it is true, but Todd is not the face of all gaming entertainment. I know The Elder Scrolls saga is one of the most beloved franchises in the gaming industry, probably next to Fallout and few other great ones, but Bethesda's recent track record is not hopeful for the future: recent Fallout 76, Deathloop, Starfield and some more are a testament to quality degradation within the studio. Sure, there were some good ones, like Doom, but in recent years their track record is getting worse and worse (especially with recent grabby practices of monetizing free fan creations for personal gain). That says a lot about them and the direction they are going for. Perhaps now that they are a part of Microsoft, maybe Spence will straighten them out a bit, but if he won't - I'm afraid it's gonna be the time to let them go and look for your entertainment someplace else.

The game will feature a female lead who dares Indy to "keep up" and bails him out in several tight situations. She's what drives the story forward and Indy just happen to come along for the ride.

Comes from a country which hasnt been infected by the woke cancer yet and you can actually say things like: “Black people have no place in a game set in medieval europe.” and not get screeched at or whatever tf is happening in the us. Some of the devs were also involved in mafia series (except for mafia 3). I recommend giving these games a try, they are pretty good and their remake of mafia 1 is on par with capcom remakes of resident evil. THATS how remakes should be made and not like rockstar with gta for example.
Baldur's Gate 3 KINDA did this since its based on D&D, which has been played by countless people across generations. Modern game made with the sole purpose of PLEASING FANS.
But, I haven't seen any AAA game studios outright promising to cater to traditional audiences.

Let's hazard a guess how it's going to turn out based on Phoebe Waller Bridge type character making snarky comment to Indy. At some point Indy gets stuck/captured then the player control switches to 'strong female character' who then rescues Indiana. Then slowly over the course of the game Indiana is lectured for being a coloniser looting artefacts from cultures and then replaced by the 'actual' protagonist and relegated to cutscenes.
And then at some point she's going to beat Indiana to death with a golf club

Let's also make an early call on the following: you will be playing as Strong Female Protagonist for more game time than the titular character (see Alan Wake); Indy will spend half the game pathetically apologizing to Strong Female Protagonist (see Spider Man); in the endgame, Strong Female Protagonist will deliver the finishing blow to General Bad Guy, while a helpless Indy watches curled up in a fetal position (see Wolfenstein); ending will be solely focused on setting up a possible spin-off sequel for Strong Female Protagonist (see Gears of War), where Indy is finally put to his rightful place to serve as a mere cameo. And if they ever make a sequel afterwards, they will bring in the cavalry and double down hard on the gay/trans/black/woman SJW shenanigans until it's coming outta your ears (Spider Man, The Last of Us, Wolfenstein, Horizon, you name it).

I have a hunch that the Nazis in the game will be inserts of people the writing team disagree with instead of being actual, evil, Third Reich Nazis. Meanwhile Indie's own story arc will probably be chock full of "lessons" (taught to him by a girl boss or "person of color" self-insert) on why being even slightly masculine as a white man is unacceptable, while still trying to give him a heroic archetype and despite being set in the 1930s/40s.

Remember when Kingdom Come Deliverance was coming out and the mainstream media attacked it for not having enough medieval black bohemians of black color? and the dev told them where they could shove it. Then that boosted sales and the game was a massive success. When was that? 2018... well Im sure bethesda just hasnt had time to learn this lesson. Its only been 6 years.

@jaxonswain3408 idk how much it is rn... and I'm sure you can get it on discount from a place like cdkeys. It's not perfect and very different feel than a fantasy game like skyrim. But it is fun and enough content that you'll get your money's worth probably.

It probably will. Since they get to screw up more than just special effects, script, story, dialogue, characterization, flow and plot.
They also get to screw up the game engine, do insufficient Quality Assurance (bug testing), have a bad game play loop, bad UI, bad level design, the works.
It's not just a matter of whether the game will be worse than the movie, but how much worse will it be.

Whenever they say modern gaming audience they mean people who have never had an interest in gaming, and would probably mock those playing video games as being weird but because they want to force their way into everything (literally and metaphorically) they are now infecting the gaming space like they have with television and books. And then their entitlement and egotistical nature demands that you not only play the game, but you like everything about it, but most importantly "the messaging" which is the only reason they want to make these games in the first place, destroying legacies such as Star Wars, Star Trek, DC, Marvel, whatever they can because the name recognition of those allows them to sell more copies because otherwise no one would ever want their games, and with good reason, they are always sacks of shit.

On the other hand, at least these people are outright telling us now before we spend our money.
The problem is that so many people are suckered into paying up for game pass....which in reality is just a way of getting people to pay for games way in advance over a gradual period of time, regardless of whether the person ends up playing/liking the game or not.
The average person only buys 3 games a year, the rough cost of a years worth of Game Pass Ultimate. But as we know, they will increase the subscription cost little by little, bit by bit. It's a long term gradual plan. And it works. Not only do people pay up, they actively defend it and tout it as "the greatest deal in gaming".

Apparently, the last game Machine Games made was Wolfenstein Youngblood, which was.... not exactly well received, with a fair amount of criticism aimed at how the protagonists spoke and acted.
Also, Todd "always wanted to make this game". Which is what he said about Starfield. I think there was probably a deal between Disney and Microsoft to make an Indiana Jones game in order to tie in with Dial of Destiny, and Microsoft chose Toddy. But the film flopped, and the game is going to have to survive on its own merit.

My 20 year old daughter laughed at me when I said that Indiana Jones Dev Diary had more red flags than a May Day parade. The sidekick for instance who bore a sticking resemblance to Helena Shaw, and who they were very careful to exclude from the gameplay parts. We'll see who was right.

The worst part about this is that, despite all the warning signs, this game is still going to sell gangbusters, and then everybody's going to be surprised when it ends up being yet another Bethesda half-baked brick of shit sold to them as a brownie.

I never thought I'd live long enough to see so many great franchises that I care for and grew up on become things that I loath and despise. How depressing.
Oh it has been going on for a while and I am pretty used to it by now.
Basically every IP I loved in my childhood has been subverted and ruined like Indiana Jones, Star Trek, various games, etc.
On the positive side it has encouraged me to check out older books, series, and movies, and try to make something of my own.
Pretty much sums up my first impression of the behind the scenes trailer, this has "Red Flags" all over it.

Even Lego Indiana Jones 2, which isn't even a bad game, is a much better game than this one. Lego Indiana Jones 2 does at least have a Level Creator feature, but the levels in the first game are better. 2007-2013 is the best period for Lego games, because then we had Lego Star Wars: TCS, Lego Batman 1 and Lego Indiana Jones 1, along with its first sequels (Lego Star Wars: TCW, Lego Batman 2 and Lego Indiana Jones 2) and a few other great games (such as the Lego Harry Potter games, Lego Marvel Superheroes, Lego Pirates of the Carrubean and Lego Lord of the Rings). Every game that came after Lego Marvel Superheroes is either okay or mediocre.
Better yet, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. The true 3D Indy experience

My favorite game that came out of Lego post Marvel was Lego Batman 3. That game does get a bit of a bad rap with Lego gamers, I have no idea why.
I'm playing Lego The Force Awakens right now, which is a pretty good game, despite it source material. I would love to play Lego Incredibles, DC Super Villains and The Skywalker Saga but I don't have the proper systems for those games.

I know the old saying dont judge a book by its cover. But these days you can read the entire book itself just by looking at the cover.
We have spent a decade giving these projects the benefit of the doubt and ended up being shafted every time, particularly by the old bait & switch. No more. This remonds me of when I had excitement for the Kenobi series then mere weeks before the premiere they had the press launch with Ewan Hayden AND MOSES INGRAM. I am getting so tired of the bait and switch with strong independent women who end up beig snarky, condescending, superior, unlikeable.
It does seem like this is going to be Indiana Jones and the Lost Pronouns.

After how Wolfenstein: The New Colossus turned out, Youngblood wasn't the least bit surprising. As soon as I'd seen MachineGames was making this, I caught so much flak for predicting exactly this.
I was thinking the same thing. They did a really good job with their first couple of Wolfenstein games but then you could see where they just went completely off. The rails woke in the next few. I couldn’t even make it through the last couple of games.

He gave TNO his personal GoTY, which in turn convinced me to give it a shot. TNC was one of the last "WTF Is ..." videos (his version of a review) that he did before he passed from cancer.

@@VilaToro64 TNO was pretty good, TNC started okay then jumped the shark hard, twice, and Youngblood put power levels in an FPS and replaced Blazkowicz with not one but two "strong female protagonists" that I swear were the same character.
