I just found a penny with a really thick edge just like your quarter with both sides greased, had no clue someone had done that, reason why I come to your vids for info!!
Thank you again for your on line university of Numismatics. These vids are and will be essential to my plan. About a year or two to go. No one knows how many pennies are still in that mint vat. No one knows how long they will be filling orders for armored trucks. Will pick pennies as best I can till then. THANK YOU
Great info. Thank you. I have a Washington quarter much like the older one you have with the thick hammered rim. Wasn't sure what I had at first but good to know I'm not waisting time trying to treat it like gold. ,👍
I've got several Matte Proof Lincoln cents that show finning, but it's to be expected in that case. They were struck multiple times with substantially higher pressure.
Hello Daniel how about when the rim is a roll over and extra material has been pressed to the face or the back of coin and the coin is smaller then allowed spec ? Thanks Dan
@@CoinHELPu hey bud I have alot of crazy stuff and I would like to get you pictures and I'm working on one right to that is a different kinda of coin it's under weight by five to 7 10th of a gram and I'm not sure but I'm coming close a three dollar gold weight and the coin is supposed to be Cooper and I was it seems gold should I do a scratch test ? Because if is gold wow that would be way cool it's got a different toned look to it than Cooper not sure how to contact you my email is elkhunter5125@yahoo.com Dan
You're best bet is to go to CONECA, find the correct person to send these too and send them off. I don't do discovery coins nor can't help with coins like this using images. Sorry.
Hi if it's ok I have a question in regards to thick Outer Rim I have a 1997 Lincoln penny but on the rim even though it's thick the lettering is still visible on both side would it mean that some one made it to be that way? Still interesting to look at 😊 thank you for your time.
I have a 2006 D" Lincoln penny that is thick like the quarter you showed in this video, but it's so thick it covers up the words "In God we trust "almost fully to where you can't read the words. Also its grey and the regular penny color, Has it also just been hammered or damaged or could it be a error penny?
Hello Daniel, were the ones that had what you called finning any additional value? Also does finning add any space to the diameter? I have a penny from 1960 that is the same diameter as a nickel. Thanks for the video and I hope you have a great day as well.
I hope you read this and can help me. I have a 1973 penny I found going through some things that I thought was just a very heavy stamped rim, I weighed it and it weighs 3.31 g. It is also larger than a normal penny, after looking at it closer there is a small turned up lip at the bottom and I can see that is seems to be an extra overlay, all the way around the rim. I can see a lip on both sides that seems to have been pinched off. Maybe it had gotten stuck and another planchet was pressed over it then just pinched the rim only on to the coin. That is what it looks like to me under heave magnification, lip and edge all the way around on both sides and a regular penny will fit just inside the inner rim without sliding out. Any ideas or have you seen or heard of this? Thanks. P S it’s an actual lip, I can run the tip of a small point underneath it on both sides
I have a silver dime with extra engraved deep lines look like while dyed prints some kind of hard kind of wire comes I between. I’m not able to upload any picture
I found a quarter like the one you showed but mine is struck different because you said someone did that to your quarter but I believe the quarter I have is what they call railroad rim... I'm going to try and see if I can take a picture of it
I was going through my change and I could feel that it was thicker. I have many of these in different denominations. I don't think too much about them. Mine was a nickel. Have a nice evening, Daniel ;D
So I have a 2004 D penny it seems to be like the rim on both sides has been curled over the penny. The rim is actually silver in color and the penny is actually smaller that any of the other pennies. but there's no damage to the face? I was wondering if anybody can help me identify what is wrong with this Penny if anything at all
1995 penny I found today in my house has like a silver ring or cap around penny silver looking front that if you run your fingers across the penny it's sharp and I tried to use my fingernail and I could probably pop it up which would just bend idk how to explain. Penny looks like it hasn't been circulated. Could it be fake?
Hey I have a 2021 quarter mistake, I can't find it anywhere on the internet and have no coin shops near me, oh got anyone I can send a picture to to see if it is authentic?
What about a dime that is a very thick coin. It’s smaller than a regular dime and it has a penny planchette look in the middle of the coin on the sides in the middle.
So now regarding Mint Damage..lets a hmm ahh 1968D looks "Whizzing on a electric fence " oh wrong thought Whizzing but these Scratches are raised, which tell me that it was present on the die. I don't use one of thoes things what call a "USB MicoCrapshit" but a stereoscopic Microscope.. the details you can see...AMAZING PIECE OF KIT!! So far out a box of pennies..found 2x pennies with that kind of damage..your thoughts??
Yeah I just found a 1972 no Mark meant with a double rim or an extra thick rim on the Lincoln side the other side is not as thick. and you can see that there's been something done to the bottom of the penny. the only difference bad thing about the penny is that it's got a little small scratch on his hair. So even if this was a $10 Penny I probably isn't worth nothing more than a penny now.
this has been the most informative video on off-center and misaligned dies, THANK YOU!
I have a hard time thinking that a slight misaligned die could be worth much of a premium but they are KEWL looking. Thanks Daniel.
I always enjoy learning how to get it right from you always 🤗
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.

You’re my go-to guy for info, Daniel. Thank you!
Thank you!
what should you do if you have an extra thick coin that is not post mint damage (likely due to weak strike)
Weak strikes don't cause extra thick coins
I've got several Matte Proof Lincoln cents that show finning, but it's to be expected in that case. They were struck multiple times with substantially higher pressure.
I have some pennies that looks like it's bigger beside the outer rim like a speed bump around the coin

Can't say without looking at the coin.

what causes the circular /semi circular "scratch" on the obverse of a coin...the "scratch" lines up with where the lettering is on the coin
Coin rolling machine damage
I had tubes of penny's with the rims messed up like the ones you had on the beginning of the video

If it's a 1987 P that's thick with a copper/nickle rim that weighs more than 5.0 then you might be on to something.

That quarter with a thick rim on the front and back and no reeding on the edge looks like a dryer quarter
is there an error value book just because ebay isn't 100% reliable because of people who can miss represent their coin?
Cherry Pickers guide, my website coinauctionshelp.com just click the mint errors in the menu

You need to work on your vocabulary. You always say things like "you don't see this very often" then say the same thing is not rare. 😐
