    Great video...for a long time I didn't really understand what a double die was exactly then it it hit me one day and made sense.....your video is very good at explaining what a double die is truly and what it is not......I don't think I've ever heard it explained this clearly. Thanks.

    Thank you for the visuals. I'm new to this idea of coin collecting and since in6 a visual learner your videos are most helpful. The use of pointer adds even more interest to keep coming back to your videos. It took me about a month to comprehend the small date large date varieties for the 82's because other videos verbally described the destinction as curve on the 2 or the line going straight down to the base so my mind was visualized the base being the base of the coin, not the base of the 2 and was about to give up and throw the idea of coin collecting out the window. So on behalf of us visuals-thank you very much! I get inspired watching your channel.

    You talked about looking at the coin from different angles. What I do is look at the image UPSIDE DOWN then if it looks like something I then rotate it slowly. I know that method works but I have not found a double (or hub doubled) yet. Thanks for the information.

This patient easy manner detailed, methodical and thorough way of teaching shows his passion for coins whether collecting or searching or for some marketing their finds to make his presentations the best on you tube in my opinion.

      You probably had the well known machine doubled die 1955.
      It’s commonly known as the “poor man’s 1955 doubled die”.
      The crazy expensive ones were given out as change in cigarette vending machines. A pack of cigs cost $0.23 in 1955. People put in a $0.25 coin and a pack of cigarettes came out with 2 pennys taped to it as change.
      The famous 1955 Doubled Die Lincoln Cent was distributed that way.

    Thank you for the video and information. There are some things with DD's that can make them really tough to id even if you do have a better than average understanding of their mechanics and the classes. Im holding a 2007P Wyoming quarter DDR-001, and to me, if I hadnt known what to look for, would have said it was machine doubling. To me it looks as flat and shelf like as a any md ive ever seen. Without the green light from Wexler, idk how anyone would think it was anything else. Not sure what im not seeing. Or a Jefferson 2013P WDDR-004 or 5 or 7, without attribution how do you start to determine its a dd and not a clash mark or die damage? I dont wanna waste Wexlers time on something thats not checked out after doing all i can possibly do on my own. Or as you again touched on, some of those minor or even major lincoln dd's and others but with the addition of die wear, circulation and plating issues. How do you tell whats worth digging into deeper especially if not attributed when it appears to you to display often weak and less common or obvious dd properties that can at times be very similar to other causes. Someone's gotta find it first... Those are questions im having a tough time on and others have to be also id assume....i have a years worth of anomalies i cant nail down 100% on my self taught, at times picture only numismatic die variant education...and i have spent way too many hours more than an adult should trying to learn all this stuff..some things i know ill only nail down after discussing them and asking questions of a master in these categories......i wish there was a checklist....lol.... once again, im sorry this is this long but i hope you can understand where im at and what saying. No one expects you to have all the answers or to be responsible for doing anything but if there are any lesser known points of info you think might help, id love to know. Or i might just be a little slow and im missing a neon sign in front of my face....lol.....thank you!!!!!!

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 лет назад

      The best I can do is these videos otherwise you must match it with a known variety die markers and the images of known varieties. Even if it is a new it must still be a doubled die. You're paying people like Wexler so you're not wasting their time you're paying for their time.

    • @jimsullivan3481
      @jimsullivan3481 5 лет назад

      CoinHELPu Yea, but ive heard that Wexler is not doing well, im not the kind of guy that wont do all i can FIRST, and besides, the whole point is that I wanna know how to tell this stuff apart myself! Wat good am i if im not working toward answering other peoples questions, accurately...Do I not have a valid point about those dd's i listed and at the desire to understand them and other errors at a higher level? Look, your busy, maybe your not the guy to be asking all this to and im again NOT trying to piss u off or argue with you or back you into a corner..i love this hobby....its my fun!!! .But im trying to be active in this field, learn and listen from those that know more than i do, to be accurate and helpful instead of unsure and useless.....i know your busy and not lookin for a deep discussion but if im missing something and am approaching this all wrong, please tell me....i just feel like your gettin me all wrong...hell, i offered to buy you a beer!!!! Hahaha

      @@jimsullivan3481 no, not taking you wrong at all. I was the way you were at first and I just kept reading the books. I read the Cherry Pickers guides, Strike It Rich With Pocket Change, and Official Guide to Mint Error Values by Herbert, then when sites started popping up I read them like Wexlers. I am always learning. I think you might be taking me wrong. People want my help then tell me I am wrong and don't know what I am saying and that it must be a new error type since they couldn't find it.
      I started these videos to help answer all these questions. You have to take time and learn, picking everyone's brain isn't going to get you to a higher level because guys like me share their brain in video and written word. People who know share and it is there to learn, but you must be patient with yourself.

      CoinHELPu Cool, im glad that we're all good. This hobby is my passion and im in no way trying to make enemies over something trivial or a misunderstanding. A lot can get taken wrong comunicating this way. I think ive said before, ive collected coins all my life, but have only really focused deeply on varieties and all the little details of the minting process the last year or so. And have only worked the forums the last 6 months. It can be frustrating though. I do not care about finding a retirement coin, though im not against it. I dont have a fantasy that my coin is a new discovery, though that would be cool. And im not one to dismiss the opinion of those I ask help or input from. But as you said, we're always learning and no one knows everything. I very well may be just where you were at then. Like a wall now i think and am struggling with certain points that arent clear to me and i cant find answers to. So anyways, i dont want to and would NEVER intentionally try to disrespect you or hijack your site with multiple types of posts you didnt intended for it but those are what i have built up at the moment. Also dont have any desire to argue with or disrespect you or anyone, or expect you personally to study and solve every case i put up. I just want to understand, discuss, share and learn more. And if theres anything that helped you that you think would help me, id appreciate any tips or recommendations. I have plans to try making a full time living out of this eventually. Thanks again dan....

    One thing I've learned is that there's often notching you won't see in Mechanical doubling. When I first started collecting I confused the 2....and learned quickly how rare alot of these DDs are.

    Thank you so much for this video explaining the difference between doubling and machined doubling. New to the hobby and that was a big question I had. Maybe you could just show pics of the different types on coins instead of the artistic rendering? Thanks again for the info

    U r legit the best. One bit of help that i may add if u would like to use it is. When you show mechanical doubling draw it the size of the original letter that way they can know its not as big as your drawing it

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  2 года назад +1

      If anyone actually thinks a coin is as big as my drawing then there's no help for them and I give up. lol. This video has been up for years and you're the first to say such a thing and there's thousands of views.

    • @raulvaldez9800

      Basically the way i learned is. If you have to ask if its doubled it most likely is not lol

      One thing thats discouraging for us newbies is when a coin dealer gives you wrong info. And its not that they are dumb its that they legit didn't know about a certain variety.

      Just have to know that most dealers don't specialize in this stuff, they're general practitioners.

    Hey Daniel, 1st I have to say I absolutely love ur videos. Ur so informative. I do not listen or watch anyone but u when it comes to coins. I watched ur videos on cleaning coins and I still did not understand everything u were saying. Question I wanted to ask u was can I soak my coins in vinegar to clean them or in water and soap? I look for error coins and sometimes it’s hard to see

      Thanks but I don't recommend cleaning your coins any other way then in my video.

    Good morning. I am so new to this but I found a 1958 no mint Lincoln (looks to me, in very good condition). Do you know where I could go to ask about double die, etc.?

    Is it possible to pay dealers to send off CAC submissions on a customers behalf?
    I’ve wanted to send in some coins for CAC consideration and would pay a dealer a significant fee to do so for me.
    I have tried to do it myself but they won’t let me join. Apparently they aren’t accepting new members. 😔

      No such think as a china strike error and I can't tell you a value when I don't know the date, mint, denomination or grade. I recommend looking it up at ebay sold auctions.

    It only sinks in if one takes the time to "Really" understand whats happening and read Mega, Strike it Rich 2025 Redbook, and don't give up. Believe me, at one time I was ready to give it up. It will sink in. Just be patient and read about the minting process. I had one heck of a time putting together the 1982-PD set, all 7 pieces CuZi and ZiCu minus the elusive 8th issue, a 1982 small date copper Lincoln cent.
