Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Mitigation

  • Adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation systems work together to keep the truck at a pre-set distance from the vehicle in front of it, and alert the driver and take pre-emptive braking action.
Chris Josten, Estherville, IA terminal manager, explains why Heyl Truck Lines equips their trucks with the adaptive cruise control, predictive cruise control, and collision mitigation.
While these systems are in place to assist the driver, there is definitely no replacement for a safe driver first and foremost!

This is the absolute worst pos system for drivers. I have a lot of patience in life and it makes me want to drive through a brick wall at times. It is not safe.

How do you disable this and switch to normal good old cruise control?

The CMS is LITERALLY the most dangerous feature in these pos “modern“ trucks. It applies the auto brake to a complete stop while you driving at 75mph for literally no reason whatsoever. All the trucks I drove that have it did it multiple times. I still don’t know how this is legal. Am sure if the general population know about this it would be illegal.

I don't think I could ever drive for a company that had this on their trucks. I've used it a little bit it's very dangerous. If you need a radar to keep you from rear-ending cars you don't need to be driving truck in the first place.

The adaptive is great but the predictive sucks. It'll just go into neutral for no reason on flat ground, slow you down, then speed up again and it makes other drivers think you are playing games if they're passing.

Looking for a way to disable PCC in my international. It's awful compared to the Freightliner I was in, randomly speeding up or slowing down with no rhyme or reason.

These systems are dangerous...... Too many times it nose dives the truck when there is plenty of room and now you're saying it will coast going down the hill..... So much for safety... And with all the buzzers and beepers for the notifications while you're trying to drive it becomes a major distraction...... You get to the point where you just scream out loud....... What's the problem now

Does anyone know how to turn this off?! It thinks shadows are solid objects, like overpass shadows. It slammed the brakes at 70 mph, TWICE during rush hour! This is so dangerous! It caused the whole load to shift! 🤬
