Human v. computer = human wins. Seems like there are a few things on that adaptive cruise control that I would not use at all. Only a blind spot alert. Every driver's test I've ever taken required me to select a safe following distance, given the speed. And that can vary a lot. If I see an erratic driver, I put a lot more distance between me and him. If I see a car in front that I know has faster braking than mine, I leave a bit more distance. The same with motorcycles - I give motorcycles a lot of room in any case. Never met Hell's Angels on the road, but I'd give them some extra room, thank you. Maintaining a steady speed while someone is passing you is just good manners. Autobahn: keep left and one eye on the rearviews. If you're at 100mph and someone behind you is doing 190mph, that's a 90mph speed difference.
I have this retrofitted in my GLE 450 along with single multifunction camera for traffic sign assist. However, whenever my car gets close to vehicle in front, it cancels so I had to hit the break manually. Is this normal?
My e 450 has adaptive cruise control and all the bells and whistles. Truthfully it’s a big pain. Never adapts at times speeds and place I want it to. I prefer old fashioned cruise control without the adaptive control. As for parking assist. Haven’t bothered to use it as it never seemed to get things right - it’s a pain.
I have a 2013 S550, I dont know if it has the ability to stay in its lane, but it does show lane assist, but doesnt stay in the lane with the active cruise. Have a missed something, that would make it stay in it own lane.
It’s a slightly different system on your car, no lane centering on that one. But I happen to have a 2012 S65 and I used it to make a video showing how to use the system. How To Use Mercedes-Benz Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control Cruise Control ruclips.net/video/R1WjSm7LlZo/видео.html

I have a 2023 E 450. Can I use cruise without the steering assist, and if so how do I set it.
The car symbol to the left of the speed symbol will be green when it is locked to a car, grey if not

I can’t speak to the normalcy of retrofitted systems

Don’t let go while changing lanes! It is not necessary or safe. Just relax your grip and let the car do the change.
While this video is okay you should take the time to read the manual as the information is more complete.
