  • The Mercedes-Benz Driving Assistance Package is one of the most intelligent driving assistance systems out there today. It uses systems to make driving more effortless, warning of danger and can even protect occupants and pedestrians in emergencies.
    This video is an in-depth guide showing you how to use it, what each item does and how combined it makes one of the most impressive packages you can buy today.
    *IMPORTANT*
    The Mercedes-Benz Driving Assistance Package is quite rare and not found on every model of Mercedes-Benz. Please double check what your model can do with your local Mercedes-Benz dealership before trying anything out on the road. Spec can vary from model to model and year to year.
    United Nations regulation (UN-R-79) also affect the Driving Assistance Package wherby Active Lane Change Assist has been removed.
    UN-R-79 requires systems like this to have a hands on / hands off sensor to detect if you have your hands on the steering wheel or not. I'm sure Mercedes-Benz are working hard on this for future models in years to come but will not be available on new cars until further notice. Speak to your local dealership to clarify on further details.
    USB-C ADAPTER
    ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
    amzn.to/3kEchgr
    I use these for all things USB-C! Compatible with all models of Mercedes-Benz that feature USB-C ports, compatible with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto too!

    Excellent demonstration and explanation of the Driving Assistance Package. I had most of this on my previous (2nd Gen) B Class and it was excellent. I'm currently driving another (very similar!) make of German vehicle with much of this type of system but it isn't quite as good as the Mercedes one, so I have just ordered a new B250e Premium Plus with Driver Assistance Package, which I'm very much looking forward to, but have no idea yet when I'm likely to get it. In the meantime I'm really enjoying your channel whilst I wait to get back into a Mercedes!

      One add here (that Nick, being the excellent driver that he is, would not demo) : the brake assist will optimally "slam on the brakes" for you if a situation arises where you are braking (hard) to stop to not rear-end a car in front of you. It's like the car says, "You're not braking hard enough, let me do that for you, I can some to a full stop sooner than you can." And it goes ahead and does that. Also, when you pull in or out of your garage, you may discover that your car is a bit paranoid, and reluctant to trust you to not scratch its paint job (it will beep at you)! If you don't know where your car is relative to walls and small paint cans, shelves, and assorted stuff, that can be a bit disconcerting. It will also beep at hedges. Presumably, it will beep at dogs and cats and children and adults and Sasquatch, too.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  22 дня назад +1

      @davesmith5656 very true! I do plan on testing it (in a controlled way) one day!

    • @davesmith5656
      @davesmith5656 22 дня назад

      @@npoleary -- I'm guessing that it will try to stop at the same distance you have set for the proximity warning. One way to test, since you know pretty much when you can stop, might be to accelerate from some forty yards back towards an intentionally flimsy piece of plywood, maybe even with an old mattress leaned against it. Then brake (not "emergency", but hard), planning on giving yourself only one foot from the barrier. The car won't cheerfully agree with that, and you can feel the brake depress while it calibrates with traction control to produce about in inch of skid before coming to a full stop - probably at about a yard from the barrier. Do you have life insurance? (Joke.)

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  21 день назад +1

      The new Active Brake assist will brake automatically (in an emergency way). The older systems were where it applies more braking force if you’re applying enough.
      But yeah one day I’ll hopefully try it out!

      No sadly once a Mercedes is made, you can’t add things like this. I mean it probably would be possible but it would cost a lot of money for the hardware, upgraded sensors, mirrors with blind spot assist, new steering wheel to control it, upgraded multimedia system etc not to mention replacement bumpers with radar.
      Sadly Mercedes dealerships don’t offer this because they have to sell the cars as they’re described on their spec sheets so it’s best to find a car with it already on 🤓

      Cruise Control and LIM (for limiter)

      Distronic Active Distance Assist and LIM (for limiter)
      The last one is optional equipment and is only available when ordering at factory and is the one that maintains distance to the car in front.

      Active Brake Assist will be working all the time, it would notify if there was something wrong.
      Regarding the other things, the Driving Assistance Package is a separate package for most cars in the UK. It is really cool but most of the features are offered for people who do lots of motorways driving. If you have Blind Spot Assist, you’ll see red warning triangles in your mirrors when someone is in your blind spot when travelling at speed.

    Another really useful video Nick. I waited a very long time for my A250 with Driver Assistance, and it was well worth the wait, particularly when I drive on the stop/start slow/fast North Circular. Though it took a while to be brave enough to let the car break for me!
    The only thing that I wish it did better would be to be able to automatically change the regular speed limiter based on road sign speed limits. Driving around town you are unlikely to be using Distronic, but where there are roads that change from 20 mph to 30 mph it would help if the limiter could auto change.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 года назад +4

      Hi Dave, glad you enjoyed the video!
      Is it a new A 250 with MBUX (Hey Mercedes)? If so....
      On your steering wheel you know you have the cruise control / DISTRONIC buttons, you've probably seen the resume / cancel button but if you press resume up twice really quickly it'll copy the data from Traffic Sign Assist to your Limiter 🤓
      Saves you having to set it every time!

      Hey Star, most modern Mercedes have Active Brake Assist as standard but yes it is always on/active.

      Hey @ArunPatel-hy5yk,
      Ooo very nice! Thank you! Glad you enjoy them 🤓
      I’ve not ever heard of that before however yes any modifications done to any car regardless of the manufacturer would most likely void a warranty as that’s not how it was shipped when it was made.
      I’ve had people ask me before about retrofitting that sort of thing and I didn’t even know people were selling kits but there must be more to it. Driving Assistance Package is rather complicated, it has a different steering wheel, sensors on the front bumper / windscreen, upgraded sensors in the back and different menus in the multimedia system. That’s what I learned when I asked Mercedes prior to making this video.
      If you have specific questions about it though, I’d advise to contact Mercedes and see what they say.
      I would actually like to cover this topic again so need to get back in and film it again and see if anything’s changed 🤓

      @ArunPatel-hy5yk 6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Nick, thank you very much for your response. Yeah it’s not exactly Driving assistance package it’s just more like a adaptive cruise control so steering wheel beat you have to manure, but it will adapt the speed and keep the distance according to the adaptive cruise control but since it will give me a problem with warranty. I’ve still got five more years to go. I don’t want to take any chance I will just go with this. Better be careful next time when I buy I guess😊

      Hi Richard, not sure on that one. I know there have been lots of delays in the UK due to COVID-19. The factory even pretty much closed at one point but if this is a car in stock, it could be due to what your local dealership might be able to cope with at the moment. Due to furloughed staff etc, they might have been forced to take holiday or something meaning less staff in the dealership. I don’t know for sure, but it could be that? Haven’t heard anything about emissions though...

    Hi Nick.
    Just switched my VW ID.4 to a 2020 Mercedes E300de - picking it up in a weeks time.
    Thanks for this and all your other SUPER informative videos regarding Mercedes functionality.
    The only thing that bugs me is that lane assist is on per default due to regulations.
    On my ID.4 it was possible to use OBD dongle to set the lane assist to “off” or “Remember last setting” in order to avoid having to turn it off every time I start the car… is there a similar possibility in the 2020 E300de?
    It would be great to have the 2021 E300de with MBUX including touch screen instead of Command, but that would cost an additional 20.000 pounds 😎
