I think this is so cool and as a guy who loves technology it's a great techy thing to have along with all the cool features merc but into there cars! I currently have a Mercedes A Class, Is this something that can be fitted to a car as an after modification or does it have to be done when there car is been built?
I know it is so good! Sadly no, Mercedes do not retrofit anything to their cars (most manufacturers are the same). And Digital Light isn’t even available on A-Class, just reserved from some larger models. C-Class and above seem to have it (this video was filmed on a C-Class).
Ok just got an EQE 500 SUV when I switch between profiles there is a note in the bottom of the drivers screen digital light warnings deactivated for the main user yet digital light warning activated for the guest user or an invited user who has set up a profile. What does the message mean? I cannot find any reference at all in the manual!
Probably best to chat to Mercedes (it depends where you live as specs vary) Digital Light is standard on some cars but optionally available on some others. It can’t be fitted to cars that are already built so as to be ordered from new. There might be a couple Used models out there that have it but if you chat to Mercedes they’ll be able to help out!
Mercedes lights have always fascinated me. I go out driving at night just to see it do it's thing. You may already know this but the lights also work with the navigation system so if you approach a t- junction or roundabout with no street lights, it turns the corner lighting on so you can have a wider view of the road. In the words of Nick, "they really do think of everything" 😅
Haha they really do! Yes I thought I noticed that, but only had use of the car for a couple of nights before it had to go back to Mercedes Press Office and I didn’t get chance to try the Sat nav with it. Does it work with the nav on and off? Or do you need a route on?
Nope, you do not need to have the satnav on. It just knows when you are approaching a roundabout or t-junction and turns it on. Also the lights in de mirrors will light up to make sure you see everything! Small tip, drive it in the mist. Its lovely to see the lights Dance 😅
Excellent video Nick, many thanks. We had Multi-Beam in our GLE which was excellent. We now have Digital Light in our EQS SUV and notice it particularly responds faster in addition to being whiter and brighter on the road.
Ah thank you! And thanks for sharing! I know it is just more responsive and accurate compared to MULTIBEAM. Both are incredible but Digital Light has the edge
I was an apprentice motor mechanic in the sixties. I had a number of quick cars including a Mini Cooper. Lights were poor, and then along came Halogen replacement lamps. Wind forwards, 57 years. I now have a Merc A class, A200 premium plus with digital lighting. I hadn’t a clue what active digital lighting was, let alone knowing my car was equipped with it. What a revelation. I have had the car from new and it is 12 months old. I recently had to make a late night journey, on a mixture of roads, A, B and Motorway. What an experience, the lighting was to say the least, superb. No requirement to keep switching between main and dipped beam.
@@coolboy5428 Character doesn’t help you see in the dark? We used to have drum brakes, we now have disc brakes. We used to have manual wind down windows, we now have electric, etc, etc. To dismiss evolving technology as ‘trash’ seems a little Luddite, don’t you think?
Not sure all of the functions are approved by the USA but double check and they can let you know. Glad you enjoyed the video! It was a late night filming this one 😅
10:10 - Multibeam does move up and down as well when masking. (as well as during breaking and under accelleration) That being said, the masking with the new digital light looks better and sharper defined than multibeam. - And amazing it can project additional visible white light OVER the already bright normal light.
🇬🇧 Nick, that was so good. Really clever and sophisticated lighting system, which seems to have thought of most, if not all scenarios. Great presentation as always. Thanks, Nick; always look forward to Friday afternoons!
I’ve just recently upgraded my old 2015 c class to a new C 300d amg premium + and I’m so pleased I’ve come across your channel 👍🏻brilliantly produced and very informative…I can honestly say the headlights are amazing and an upgrade from my old cars multi beam which I thought were great too…thanks for sharing this
Hey Nick, I've got the digital light projection feature. You need to spend around 300 pounds for a 3-year subscription on the Mercedes Me Store. I've used it on my C300e, and it's pretty neat. It does have the roadworks feature it starts by displaying a roadworks sign and then projects a box, matching the car's width, to assist you in navigating through the roadworks. It's quite impressive. Another cool aspect is that if you get too close to the car in front, it shows a warning sign on the ground indicating that you're too close. I'm really impressed with this feature, although it's a bit frustrating that Mercedes charges for it, especially considering it's an optional extra that I got through the Premium Plus package.
Yes it can vary on the car / where you’re based and the spec chosen. Some cars have it as standard, some it’s optional equipment and some it’s an extra you purchase from the Mercedes me store from what I’ve heard.
@@npoleary Hi Nick, I am based in the UK, I will be driving to France, Belgium and the Netherlands. I will be interested to see if the same changes or adapts in each country, if interested i will let you know my experiences after the trip. From my understanding, it will adapt based on country regulations. What I have noticed is that the car you were testing has two welcome light options. Mine has one as of 2 months ago. I am actually travelling at the moment I will ask my wife to check my car today to see if it has updated and added the second welcome light function as well. Funnilly every time i get back to the Uk and drive my car which is every few months the vehicle has new features added across the board it seems Mercedes is regularly updating the systems in the car.
Your can find definitions of most of the functions the headlight shows, from the UN Regulation R149. Some examples: 1:58 after headlight starts while car in stationary or speed below 40 km/h, the shape of low beam does not have the kink, that is the class V passing beam. 3:15 driving at speed higher than 40 km/h, the low beam turns into the class C, which is the default mode. The function discussed in 7:15 is the class W passing beam(seldom brands implement this function, even they have the all-weather light mode) .
Yes, I love these headlights. The tech is great. I have a '23 E450 sedan that I really like and I live in the USA. My only complaint is with all the cameras the car has why it doesn't have standard dash cam integrated into the system. When I stop at a light the front camera engages until I start driving again. I don't really know why, but it could least record while I'm sitting there then. Great content as always.
@BulliezInc I was so disappointed when I got my new '22 A250e with is wired only! On top of that they announced the face-lift right after which now has it wireless 😢 you'd think mercedes had wireless for multiple years now
Well actually no it takes a really long time to change spec in cars, I would love to do a factory tour one day but I’m sure they don’t allow filming in there 🙁 Basically in comparison phones get new models each year however compared to cars it can be up to 6-7 years! However there is a facelift halfway (usually). So basically when the A-Class with MBUX came out in 2018, most of the internals of a car will stay the same until it’s facelift at least and then they can upgrade multimedia systems and add new tech etc. Recently that’s how wireless CarPlay was added 👍🏼 Car production lines are probably so complex! 🤓
I have a 21 E53 with a dashcam from factory. It’s just a software that you can buy from MB for about $200. You just need to purchase a a C flash drive and connect it to your USB-C port inside the center console. Yes, it’s just a software your dealer can help you purchase.
Hey! Ooo nice! Not sure it’s on an EQA, Digital Light is just on the larger cars in Mercedes but it might have MULTIBEAM LED. I covered that a year ago: www.youtube.com/@npoleary/search?query=multi Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi Nick! Amazing channel. Just noticed that you tend to drive with outstretched arms. As a racing driver I learnt it makes your ability less to manuever in tight situation compared to bent over arms (just check some Nascar inside facing camera). It also does make your arms to get tired easier and even in there is a crash, they less likely to survive without any fracture. Once again, thank you for your work!
really nice video Nick, many thanks, as I mentioned I've got a EQV and it does have that kind of light, it is fascinating to be honest. after the GL light I thought EQV light had a problem but later on I learned how it works, and it just amazing. thanks for that
Another great video, thank you! Aren’t these headlights just so cool?! I’ve got multi beam led on my A35 which are incredible, but these are just another step forward, wow! By the way I’d have trusted you and walked in the road to test the pedestrian system 😅
Have a 22 A250e which comes with multibeam LED and I'm always a bit worried about dazzling drivers as sometimes it doesn't dim very quickly. These digital ones seem to react faster but we'll see when I get one in the future (hopefully!)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! No sadly car manufacturers can’t retrofit tech like this onto cars, it has to be specified at factory or pre built on a car in stock. That would be amazing if you could though!
How lovely to see the tech I have paid for in several MBs work so well... in other countries! While i understand the US gvt has *finally* changed the lighting standards, I dont know when /if we can have the built-in tech activated on our cars. Re: glare - I wish MB could address road markings that disappear in the rain at night - maybe highlighting edges of lanes/roads that are not marked, like in the VA countryside outside WashDC where I live. I think inclement weather nighttime lighting still leaves a lot to be desired, better than ever but not great (btw, I wish MB had not taken away the rear fog light, I used that a lot in rain/snow).
My biggest issue with my multi beam light was inconsistency and thus the constant fear of when I’m actually blinding someone in front of me. This happened mostly on highways, as the middle divider usually blocks the oncoming cars’ headlights, so my car doesn’t see there’s someone and kicks on full beam. This happens especially with trucks as their cabin is higher and the system simply can’t recognize them. Which means constant turning on and off the system manually on a highway which defeats the whole purpose… Which is strange as the manual says there is specifically a highway mode where full beam engages only your side, but I never seen that working. Any experience with that?
Ah I’ve covered MULTIBEAM last year with Mercedes on a separate video on my channel. I’ve heard of Highway mode I think it’s called ULTRARANGE but I’m sure that was only on S-Class (in the UK). Even with Digital Light, they are all assistance systems, so you have to monitor it and of course as you will have experienced, there will always be certain situations where you will need to turn it off manually. Best use case is in the dead of night in the countryside for sure! 🤓
Brilliant, thanks Nick. Funnily enough I was driving on the M11/M25 no lights section pitch black and noticed my full beam was on and was confused 🤔 .....was I so tired I accidentally hit the beam switch? Even more confusing was the guy in front by 150 meters didn't seem fased! I guess after watching this video it makes sense
Hi Nick, Excellent informative video. One query, what settings you make for Digital light(left-side traffic or right-side traffic or automatic)? In my 24-model GLC if I made settings Automatic, after driving a while in the dark, adaptive high beam assis plus inoperative message displaying. Do you face the same?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Sadly I don’t own a car with Digital Lights although I wish I did! It’s some incredible tech! Inoperative can happen if the sensors are dirty at the front of the car. I had to clean the car prior to filming when I had it just in case.
Hi there Nick. Seriously impressed with your videos mate! Thank you. Question: I have an older Mercedes - 2013 CLS350 AMG Sport X218. Do you know of any videos which cover the lighting topic for that era of Merc?
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Working on the next one already! 😅 Sadly not I started my channel in 2020 so have coverage back a little while but never been in a 2013 one before. I’m guessing it might have ILS (Intelligent Light System)? It’ll be similar tech if you do have that, usually you can tell by looking at the light cluster itself on the exterior. I believe it looks like this: ruclips.net/video/jlkS-tPqFPU/видео.htmlsi=_ilrt4M1HDAZ_LI5
@10:15 Every led or xenon headlight-system must have automatic hight-adjusting to be legal, only high beam lights can be without. Vw had similar system in 2007, they lifted the beam the faster you drove.
Great video! I have a W206 C300 w. Digital Light and the lights are really good. It is just such a shame that Mercedes completely messed up the integration of the projection functions, as the factories seem to have desided which cars should have the projection functions by throwing dice. A C-Class w. Digital Lights must have option codes “PAX”, “30U”, “42U” and “43U” to support all the functions you have shown. My C300 unfortunately only has “43U” which means only the “Digital Rain” projection is available (if I wanted to pay for it) 😢. So, Digital Light does not automatically have all the functions you’ve showcased here. Most annoying thing is that its just software. My dealership wanted me to pay 1.400 EUR to unlock them! No thanks!
Yikes I hate when manufacturers split into so many smaller options that cost a fortune! Mercedes surely does that too. You already paid for the digital lights, you should get the full experience. It's not like it requires constant maintenance and updates.
Ah thank you! Sadly as always specs vary massively round the world so you’ll have to check where you live. I try not to go through individual specs too much on my channel as it varies so much round the world, I just try to focus on the tech itself without going into the packages. I’d imagine it would be similar here in the UK that for example an S-Class would probably have more features in it than the car had tested.
@gabrielRM it’s just different round the world, I don’t believe it’s like that in the UK. So depending on where you’re based chat with Mercedes and they’ll be able to clarify for you! 🤓
Hey Nick thank you for this great video and all the effort you put in their production. I have a 2019 E class with multibeam LED..but unfortunately here in the US they disable the one function that is the whole reason to get them in the first place (as you mentioned in your video). I truly hope with digital light, we can have all the functionality of this incredible system :)
Awh thank you! Had to ask for help with this one with an extra car! 😅 Glad you enjoy them! Hopefully, I’ve heard the law has possible changed in the USA so hopefully new cars might be able to utilise some tech now! (Only heard that from some USA viewers who commented on another video somewhen)
@@npoleary Adaptive high beams are still not allowed in the USA. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has tentatively approved the concept but has not defined relevant standards. According to someone prominent in the vehicle lighting industry with whom I communicated, the coming standards will not allow adaptive high beam headlamps that are anything like those in Europe, Canada and most of the rest of the world.
@Nick you mentioned the roadworks feature. It does work in UK on my EQS. No great benefit, it projects a large bright square on the road preceded by a bulldozer image. One feature I’ve not seen here in UK that is shown on Merc promo videos is the “zebra crossing” light - if you let a pedestrian cross, the system throws that pattern onto the road.
Oh right thanks for sharing! Not sure if it’s just an EQE or EQS / S-Class option but I couldn’t get it to do it on the C-Class. Ah yes I’ve not seen that here either, probably down to local laws and regulations
@@npoleary another feature in EQS with digital light (for a future video) is that if too close the car in front, you get red warning triangle on driver display, same triangle on head up display AND the lights project the same image on the road between your car and the one in front. They should have lent you an EQS! Of course next year’s model will do more. (Speculation).
You should have also shown it on a dark highway, as it impressively lights up the road-signs. I guess that is weird for the other cars in front of you: they see the sign in front of them lit up by a high beam, but don't see it in their mirrors.
I did but because there are so many sources of light from other cars, it barely puts full beam on anywhere otherwise it’ll dazzle everyone. You can see it on the closest side of the road (to the left) but apart from that camera didn’t really pick it up so I didn’t include that bit 😅
Hi Nick. I have a 19 plate aclass and was wondering if you can move the headlights. When driving in the dark on normal beam not high the lights seem to be pointing not far enough down the road and more in to the ground. So when travelling at say 40-50 mph you cannot see to far in front of you and loosing the road quite easily. High beams great but can’t always use. Hope you can help or could main dealer. Cheers Nick, keep making the vids
Hi, thanks for awesome video. May i ask a question. I have 2024 w206 with night pack. Small led light at center of headlight (part of daytime running lights) not turned on. But i saw the some other w206s turned on at daylight. How can i turn on this led light. Can you answer me please?
I haven’t driven a Mercedes C-Class for a number of months (probably since making this video) so can’t remember exactly what the lights looked like. But does the middle section not form part of the dipped beam? Glad you enjoyed the video though!
Great detailed video! Congratulations and thank you! I have a question for you please. I have a 2024 GLC Coupè and have noticed the ambient lights in the air fans are “turned off”. I saw some of your videos where they are on, let’s say. In this particular one I can see them off like in mine. Please could you tell me if I could have them with light in the interior of the fans? 🇪🇸 greetings from Spain! Suscribed! Thank you for your nice and hard work!
Hey thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Really sorry I wouldn’t know, specs do vary round the world and I’ve heard this from people’s comments that there was a spec change over the past year or so. If you chat to Mercedes they’ll be able to help and advise!
Hi Nick great video thianks. Have adaptive highbeam assist plus digital light in my car is kinda operational intermittenly giving message impared - drive on - clean the sensors . windshield is clean what other sensors involved in this technology and where they located , not much on the subject in mthe manual. Sandown sugest a windscreen cleaning, I sence theres not many familiar with modern technology in this card at the shop. Also a bit off topic can you do a review on dashcam option a bit in detail as is most expensive app and theres no grace period to try. Thanks in advance.
Thank you! It can happen with various sensors at the front or if conditions have very heavy rainfall or foggy conditions. There’s the main sensor at the top of the windscreen :) Already reviewed the dashcam on Mercedes multiple times. There’s a few videos on my channel of it. ruclips.net/video/xkXyOzoLpO0/видео.htmlsi=2EX-NluyUUPaLX1n
Hi Nick, very interesting review. I guess I could be able to help me: since last week I own a brand new C All Terrain Premium Plus. It has the most sofisticated Digital Light option available on the C class. I can appreciate the aid projections on the road, the turning of the light while steering and the off road function. But there are some things I stil do not understand. On Mercedes website I read that there are three possible light intenstity: the normal driving headlights, the semi-full beam and the full beam (so the semi-beam is a new entry for me). But how do these works? 1) If I select the AUTO position I can't switch the full beam with the lever ahead, is this correct? if so, when those will switch automatically on? I have bene driving quite a lot and never, not even once, my full beam turned on automatically. 2) If I select the standard position (after AUTO switch) and I switch on the full beam, do I still have all function you explained? Because when I tried and it happened that the front cars where fully lightned in their back and the cars coming form the opposite direction keep flashing me, so I must deduct that no light reduction was applied ... 3) in the car menu I can choose for left drive, right drive or automatic. I have selected the right option, could this affect other functions? 4) As far as you are aware, what could be the limitation (if some) in Italy and France (where I live and work usually)ù Thanks in advance for your help Regards
Thank you! I can try, so under normal conditions you’d select AUTO. When you push the stalk away from you, that’s when you’ll get the A (for Auto) appear on the dashboard. It will only come on in virtually pitch black areas. If you select the lever to the right (the 1 o’clock position, then all auto functions are off, you’ll be doing it manually. For the setting in the car, it’s the side that you drive on, if you select the opposite side some functions may not be available (depends on the country etc that you’re visiting). Hope that helps!
✨these lights surely come in handy. They're amazing But there has been news of these digital lights theft across the UK and in my country South Africa. I don't know if selecting digital lights could be a risky take🤷🏽♂️.
@@npoleary From Porsche is come, but for other manufacturers it also occurs. It's usually rare though. Manufacturers like Volvo, Mercedes, Porsche, Ford, BMW matrix lights (digital lights) usually get stolen in South Africa. But rarely
I have a new C300 with digital light package and the exit options aren't available 😞Hopefully will come as an update soonish as it took 6 months for the traffic cam assist to be " turned on " lol
Ah nice! Yeah maybe, might be worth giving Mercedes a shout. It does vary round the world Some countries it’s not available, some you can choose at factory and some you can upgrade on the Mercedes me store.
Hi @@npoleary cheers thats me now £13 a month worse off 😂 as showed up as an optional purchase update once my Mercedes me app was updated. Its quite good you can subscribe month to month then cancel as we probably won't have much need for it in Scotland during the summer months. But during these dark winter months it will come in handy travelling to and from work 👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Working on the next one already😊 Sadly I don’t think so, but…you might be able to get MULTIBEAM LED on that model. Just chat with Mercedes and they’ll be able to let you know 😎 (depends on where you live and availability etc)
Hello Nick, I’ve just bought the new CLE and it comes with “Preinstallation”: for projection function for symbol “Preinstallation” for projection function for animations, is this actually available for use or is it at an additional cost?
Just replied to your other message on another video: Ah that sounds cool! I’ve read that if anything states “Pre-installation” then you can potentially buy it in the Mercedes store app so probably best to look in there and see what Extras there are.
Great video demo and explanation. However, other than the little left to right dance of the projectors at startup, no other features are available in the US. We have very old/lame laws here regarding headlights, so the stars waves and MB logo options are a no go. That's the US for ya. Laws and $ before safety.
I think the multibeam LEDs are great, but I generally don't use it as it appears almost too bright, or not accurate enough. Whenever I use it on anything other than a deserted country lane I get a LOT of flashing lights from angry oncoming cars.
These new Digital Light headlamps are cracking, aren't they! One thing that initially confused me when I first took out my C300 in the dark was that switching on high beam DIDN'T switch on high beam. Instead, as you will know, it merely switches on 'Adaptive High Beam Assist'. This puts a white coloured headlight icon on the dash-board display, but only puts the actual high beam headlights on if the system deems them to be necessary. (ie. On unlit roads, I think.) The way to go back to manual high beam is to take the main light selector switch out of it's top-of-the-dial 'Auto' position, taking it one click clockwise to the 'headlights' position. In that position the headlights go back to normal manual dipped or high beam operation. The downside, of course, is that one then has to remember to put the selector back to 'Auto' before switching off the car, otherwise the headlights will remain on.
If you have adaptive lights on Mercedes, they operate exactly the same way as normal light systems. Push the indicator stalk away from you to toggle between auto and off. If you want manual use, turn the light switch near the driver’s door to ON. Now the stalk will be manual
Hi Nick, I have a 2022 PremPlus C300 in the UK, and seen "DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function" feature available to purchase on the Mercedes Me store. However I contact customer service as heard some feature might not be available, and this is what they responded - "We would like to kindly inform you that after checking on our system, we were able to locate that all the services from the Digital Light are compatible with your vehicle. Although, the service seems that is still not available for United Kingdom and we don't know yet, when the service will be available for the specific country, so that means that due to country regulations the service might not work for you vehicle at all. ". Wondering how it works in your car please?
Hey Tony, It was just a car that Mercedes Press Office very kindly let me borrow for a couple of nights to film this video. Can you speak with your local Mercedes? They might be able to check it out for you and check software on the car or something?
Hello Nick , just wondering how your vehicle can be update with DIGITAL LIGHT Projection Function for Animations? I did saw the package but I wasn’t sure if my CLE 300 head light can be update the projector ?
I’ve seen that Mercedes offer Adoative High Beam Assist and DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function on their store. You’ll have to sign into your Mercedes account with your car linked to see if it’s compatible: shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/connect/pdp/digital-light-with-projection-function/714
@ Hello Nick, Thank you so much for your help! It looks like the Merecde shop link is only available for UK regions, so I wasn’t able to check the availability since I’m in the US. Still, I really appreciate your support and quick response!
Ah head to the USA store, select that here: shop.mercedes-benz.com/dcp/static/maintenance/distributionMBCS.html It will be vastly different in the states though!
Very good & yes, great video - really informative. Quick question though, in your opinion; is it worth the subscription you have to pay or is it just a bit gimmicky?
@@npoleary Hi Nick, so I've just bought a new C220d AMG premium line and after having linked the Mercedes me to the car, I had a look on the store and found I can get package: DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function - This is subscription for 12 months @ £137 / 36 months @ £329 / monthly @ £13
Oh interesting! They must have just bought that out…that me cool though. Just checked, can’t add it to my car 😅 Guess it depends how often you’re driving at night where you might find it useful 👍🏼
Nick: I have been told by various MB and AMG groups that Digital lighting is not yet on US models. Supposedly, in December of this year, the App will be available for purchase via MercedesMe. Do you know if the 2023 C-43 AMG sedan is compatible with that App upgrade or is the actual headlight hardware different on digital light-equipped AMGs? Thanks from an avid subscriber!
Ah that sounds interesting! I have seen this on the Mercedes me store but I’ve not heard any rumours about launches or anything. It would make sense though so that sounds pretty cool! Sorry I wouldn’t know that :( You’ll have to ask Mercedes themselves and hopefully they’ll keep you in the loop!
Hi Nick, What about the LED high performance headlights that comes as a standard with the C class? Is that enough for a high way long driving? Is the high beam assistance in the LED high performance and in the Digital light reach the same distance, or how much would you say the LED high performance and Digital light differ for the high beam assistance?
I have LED High Performance Lights in my car and they’re brilliant. Miles better than halogen on my previous car! I can actually see at night! 😂 In terms of Digital Light, I’m not too sure on the range differences between the two, Digital light is more aimed at adjust and maximising your light coverage when their are object within your field of view. I’d imagine the distances are similar although on some models Mercedes have a special mode called ULTRABEAM (or something similar) so that when you’re travelling very fast (think autobahn) in the dead of night it’ll shine almost half a mile up the road (if I remember anyway).
@@npoleary thanks for your reply. That's exactly my question. When I am driving fast in the autobahn, does the LED high performance is enough to drive with clarity and the high beam distance that it illuminates would be sufficient? Be it in any weather conditions, will it be considered as enough for the driver? I have tested the standard lights in the A class but on the C class, and in the snowy weather conditions the A class standard lights were not so much illuminating, so I am having this question to consider for C class. Does C class and A class share same LED high performance or C class have any better to the A class? Your inputs are valuable 🫶
Honestly I’ve not compared the standard high performance LED’s to each other. I assumed they were all similar. For my needs a standard LED High Performance system is good enough. When filming the Digital Light video I was just focusing on the extra features that come with it. It has been quite a while since I’ve filmed this so am not 100% sure if the actual light is brighter. I would assume it is as it has to focus its light in different scenarios. Mercedes apparently use mini micro mirrors to achieve this!
Just replied to your other message: That can happen if the top of the windscreen is dirty, usually just clean the car and it’ll disappear. I’ve had that happen on my car and sure enough it sorted itself afterward 🤓
Did you have the car off when you cleaned the windscreen? If it’s still not working after a clean I’d suggest getting in touch with a dealer so they can check it out. One thing to note have you had the windscreen replaced (chips / cracks or repair or anything?) I’ve heard that can affect it.
Hi Nick - Great video. I have the digital light system in my 2024 C300. When low beams are on, I am noticing two dark spots on the left side of the road ahead. Would love to post a picture but not sure how to do so. Is this normal? The spots disappear when the hi-beams are engaged.
Thank you! Not heard or seen of any dark spots before, I mean if you don’t think something’s right defo give Mercedes a shout and they can check it out for you! 🤓
Hello nick I’ve got a Mercedes a class a180d recently I’ve noticed some small arrows at the side of the r the n and reverse and even p for parking have you any idea what they are
Ah very nice! Super economical! So those arrows only appear when you’re able to select the gear and of course what gear you can select. So if you turn the car on, don’t put your foot on the brake you probably won’t see any arrows. Put your foot on the brake and then they’ll appear. It’s just indicating what you’re able to select.
Happy New Year! I have a question that i think you will know. How is it called the option some cars have to project car's speed on the windscreen it is rather like a simulation. I hope i explained it well. Thank you.
Sadly Digital Light from what I’ve seen isn’t on the smaller models but the larger ones like C-Class and higher. But GLA’s can have Multibeam LED which I covered a year ago which is still impressive!
Nick, Silly question time... New A200 Premuim Plus model. So if I leave the lights on the white light icon the it does everything else by itself and I never have to change this. In other words it goes to main beam then reverts when oncoming cars approach and darkens their view so they don't get dazzled or widens the light beam on corners etc... Also it adapts when your in town and in lit up areas?
Haha not a silly question! Yes all automatic if you have that symbol, but as always it’s an assistance system. It’ll operate as you expect 90% of the time but any driver should be ready to toggle it off just in case it dazzles another driver. It’s very rare I will add though! Have a look at your lights on the outside, does it say MULTIBEAM LED?
Ah cool! If it’s got MULTIBEAM LED, then it’ll be the other video I made on it (very similar system though!) ruclips.net/video/mmQ-xlYHu9Y/видео.htmlsi=1eDbRtRG5Q0G35Qp
Possibly but really sorry I wouldn’t know. You’ll have to enquire with or ask Mercedes. Mercedes Press Office were very kind and lent me a car for a couple of days but I wouldn’t know if tech inside is different on other models. I would hope it’s the same! But check with them to be 100% sure 🤓
Hi Nick. Just bought a C300 AMG Line Premium and the list of options included ‘Preinstallation’ of both projection and animation but does not project anything. Does ‘preinstallation’ mean you have to purchase these facilities?
I’ve heard of this before so not sure if Mercedes are bringing it out in future…I did spot this on the Mercedes menu store so maybe? shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/connect/pdp/digital-light-with-projection-function/714 You might have to ask them! 🤓
Very clever lights but how much would a new headlight or bulb cost if they go wrong.. Won't be a few pounds like halogen or Xenon bulbs and I doubt if you could change yourself so more labour costs.
This is why I asked and double checked that the lights are covered under warranty. And they are. I’m sure they’re very very expensive to fix or replace.
i want to know... like if a car is following behind you, when you slam on the brake for complete stop, does it automally turn on and flash hazard lights?
Hi Nick! I really need your help… ive just bought a used glc300e from 2020 and for some unknown reason my headrest on the driverside is stuck on the lowest position inside of my seat… ice tried brute force and also some love, but i somehow cant get it unstuck! You got any idea what i could do? Thank you very much (:
Oh hey! 🙏 Very nice! Well if I remember and if it’s similar to other models of Mercedes, there’s a release underneath the head test where the metal parts go down into the seat. Also some cars also allow the adjustment of the headrest forwards and backwards with a button on the side. If that’s still not working, get on touch with Mercedes and I’m sure they’ll be able to help! 🙏
@@npoleary thank you very much for your answer. I do know about the Release! Unfortunately the Release doesnt do anything because i think it has passed the Point where the Release could catch onto it… so i think its actually broken, just wondering how i could get it unstuck. The passanger Seat headrest is working just Fine (;
Oh I see! Really sorry I wouldn’t know how that works on the seat but Mercedes do have technicians so if you get in touch with them, they’ll be able to help!
Ah yeah probably 🤓 I covered MULTIBEAM LED a little while ago here: ruclips.net/video/mmQ-xlYHu9Y/видео.htmlsi=i6K3Q3kjZJ3riCPA MULTIBEAM is still incredible though!
No sadly not Mercedes do not retrofit anything to cars from what I’ve heard. To give you an idea why, Digital Light for the GLE would only have become available recently on the facelift which has different lights so the cutouts would be different too. So not only would the lights need to be different, the front bumper would need to be changed for the newly styled lights and the multimedia system to power it. And I’m sure the light sensor is probably upgraded in the top of the windscreen to “see” more at night. I think this is why they do not fit retrofits because it would literally cost thousands even if they did offer it.
Sometimes I drive the dark roads just to see this, although I only have the multibeam. But sometimes it’s finicky and disables itself no idea why, or it doesn’t light as I expect it to
Ah nice! It’s pretty clever It can happen at lower speeds, or if there’s too much light from streetlights can cause it to turn off or even on extremely curvy roads which would require a lower speed anyway.
The multibeam headlamps on my Porsche, which I'm pretty sure use the same Hella technology that Mercedes uses, seem to disable the adaptive high beam when there are a large number of oncoming and/or preceding vehicles. I've read that the system can track up to eight other vehicles and shield them from the high beam. I suspect that when there are more than eight other vehicles, the system gives up and shuts down. But when that happens, the headlamps of the many oncoming vehicles seem to provide adequate light for me.
Good Morning Mr O'Leary, Spot on, time to play with the iPhone till the Dark comes Lights on Let's Go. O ye Lets make a Quality Adjustment from HD to 4K now i am ready you have my Permission to Drive. very good system iv never driven a car with these perfect for seeing L Plates on another car that had the L Plate on the wrong side of the car. well after watching that the attention to detail on this video that you've done it is absolutely brilliant especially on 4K, because I watched it on HD and I missed some of the detail for the lights suggestion, is it possible for you to set your videos to default 4K as standard on RUclips? thanks Nick. next year when i get my new car and you need another car for a double car video all you have to do is ask. even walking in the middle of the road in the pitch black of night cant wait for next weeks take it easy till then
Awh Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I was out late filming this one! 😅 No sadly you can’t set a default on RUclips, wish you could! It’s set by the connect speed, even mine doesn’t default to 4k at times when I watch videos on RUclips. Awh thanks for the offer!
No sadly not, some cars have MULTIBEAM LED some have just not al LED lights so it depends on the spec of the car. Chat with Mercedes and they can let you know 🤓
This feature is incredible but, the amount of driving I do where I need full beam is very minimal. It’s rare that I even drive at night 😅 Although I do appreciate the no traffic at night! 😂 I don’t think you made a mistake, you have an E450 (faster and better sounding) and a SuperScreen. I probably would have picked what you have 👊🏼 Digital Lights are very cool, but I’d rather have spent money on something I’m going to use each day, passengers probably get in and go “wow” with a SuperScreen! 😊
I saw a video quite a few years ago that had this or very similar MBZ light system where you could actually type messages and have them displayed via the headlight (obviously whilst at a standstill) It was a working concept in an S class as I remember, probably 5 + years ago?
Whilst the new CLE (300 premium plus) is equipped with Digital Lights, not all of the features shown in this video are available, such as the farewell/welcome animations. I have yet to discover exactly which features are and are not available.
You need to buy them no? Beacuse in the specs it says it comes with the preinstalled digital light animation, buy you might need to buy it in the mercedes me shop
Great having all this tech in cars but not one in car navigation system can recognise you put a trailer on and change route times and speeds to suit not even Google maps gives you a trailer option you have to buy specific sat navs
I’ve seen this when browsing the Mercedes me store but honestly I don’t know really anything about towing so have never looked into it: shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/connect/pdp/navigation-for-trailers-and-oversized-vehicles/550 I don’t know what cars it’s compatible with but could be something Mercedes are working on? 🤔
@@npoleary yes that's what I'm on about but again it's a paid service when it should be included in the nav system as you have to pay for that after a while but thank you for you reply
Was the test car a C300 with basic ambient lighting? Thanks to the chip shortage, I'm getting my 2024 C300 with standard ambient lighting instead of the enhanced one. I'm asking because I've never seen one with the standard ambient lighting.
I’m pretty sure it’s just classified as Ambient Lighting, I’ve not seen a standard or Enhanced before. Where abouts are you based (sorry it’s hard to tell on RUclips!)
@@npoleary I'm so sorry! I forgot to mention. I'm in Ontario, Canada. We have the standard ambient lighting which comes standard and the enhanced ambient lighting which is part of a package. That one is unavailable due to the chip shortage. The enhanced lighting has dynamic lighting and more surfaces with ambient lighting like the air vents.
Ah I see it’s different here, there’s just one item called Ambient Lighting and it’s standard from what I’ve seen. It always amazes how much it varies round the world with different countries!
@@npoleary thank you. I was so disappointed when my MB rep told me I had to go with the package that doesn't include the enhanced ambient lighting but now that I see the standard one, I'm not that disappointed. I honestly thought it was the same packages around the world but with different names. Thank you again Nick! I'm also getting the digital lights. My rep says I'll get all the functions but I'm not sure about that. He's a sales rep after all. My 2019 Audi A6 came with matrix lights but they were never activated due to Canadian regulations. Turns out, they can be activated now at the dealership. I'm returning my A6 at the end of March and getting my new 2024 C300.
Yes, thanks. I prefer a Mercedes-Benz over BMW but BMW has certainly one-upped Mercedes-Benz in the infotainment department! In fact they certainly seem to have high levels of tech in their cars now. Still, won’t sway me from Mercedes-Benz!
No sadly not this tech otherwise I’d have put it on mine when I ordered my car 😅 There’s similar tech called MULTIBEAM LED which I covered a while ago: ruclips.net/video/mmQ-xlYHu9Y/видео.html
Another thought is the rising cost of UK car insurance. Headlights like this are fantastic technologically, but as another poster has written, a replacement unit must be a fortune, costs like this must affect our rapidly escalating insurance costs.
True but, it can swing the other way too. Car’s have more safety systems than ever before now so potentially might be viewed as safer by insurers. It varies so much with all of the insurance companies out there so I’d still shop around and see which one’s best 🤓
You’ll have to check with Mercedes directly to see what spec you have 🤓 I don’t think Digital Light is available on the smaller models (I’ve just bought an A-Class and it wasn’t available on that one) pretty sure it’s just MULTIBEAM LED on compact cars. I have a video on that one I filmed with my local Mercedes last year 🤓
Isn't this same digital light technology also being used by other car makers - not just Mercedes? I know that Porsche has recently introduced digital headlamps on the Cayenne and Panamera. I have assumed that these digital headlamps are supplied to auto makers by Hella as were the 84 LED multibeam matrix headlamps.
@@npoleary thank you, it does sound amazing creeping around at low speeds, im just always looking to upgrade you know how it is, i still keep both of my Mercedes in excellent shape
It depends! Until recently what I can only describe as fancy light systems, have not been allowed in the USA. I believe (but you might want to check) that the law has changed to allow more sophisticated lighting systems but I would imagine it would be for cars from a particular date.
Haha It was actually difficult to find a place the showcase it well to be honest. Most of the time it would project over other cars or fences or buildings etc (depends where you’re parked). Most of the time it just looks like a pattern but if the surface is flat you can see it

Hi Nick, Is it possible to upgrade to a digital lights alone?
Probably best to chat to Mercedes (it depends where you live as specs vary)
Digital Light is standard on some cars but optionally available on some others.
@stijn72385 it uses the car's GPS. I don't think it "just knows," but I agree, driving in fog is epic. It's so cool to actually see the light beams!
@@shaundasilveira3356 ofcourse it uses the nav. But you do not need to have a route set.
@@stijn72385 I know 🙂
Excellent video Nick, many thanks.
I think this is the best MB light presentation/explanation in YT.
Thank you! 🙏 that means a lot 👍🏼
It took a while to film and my cameras weren’t the best at capturing pitch black conditions.
It is! :)
Thanks for sharing! Yeah I agree lighting tech has come a long way!
Lights were not poor, they were great, had character and the new ones are trash.
@@PaulWhittle-g9c He's just trolling for attention.
I’ve been waiting for this video. Every search I do for digital lights are years old.
I’m glad they approved these lights for the US.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🙏
Those lights are so clever, wish they were on my own car! 😅
I’ve just recently upgraded my old 2015 c class to a new C 300d amg premium + and I’m so pleased I’ve come across your channel 👍🏻brilliantly produced and very informative…I can honestly say the headlights are amazing and an upgrade from my old cars multi beam which I thought were great too…thanks for sharing this
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! 🤓🙏
Thanks Nick. That was a very good explanation of this technology. Great informative video as always.
Thank you! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
Oh yes please do share! 🤓
I know that’s one cool thing with over the air updates! Haven’t had any for mine yet but I’ll keep an eye out! 👀
These lights works insanely great. I am impressed with mine. At first i was so nervous but soon discover that nobody complains. Amazing techonology.
Your can find definitions of most of the functions the headlight shows, from the UN Regulation R149.
Some examples:
1:58 after headlight starts while car in stationary or speed below 40 km/h, the shape of low beam does not have the kink, that is the class V passing beam.
I have a 23’ E450 coupe and I couldn’t agree more . Also, any 22’ models and newer should for sure have wireless apple/ android car play .
Thank you! Video coming soon on that exact topic! Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss out! 🤓
@BulliezInc I was so disappointed when I got my new '22 A250e with is wired only! On top of that they announced the face-lift right after which now has it wireless 😢 you'd think mercedes had wireless for multiple years now
Well actually no it takes a really long time to change spec in cars, I would love to do a factory tour one day but I’m sure they don’t allow filming in there 🙁
Basically in comparison phones get new models each year however compared to cars it can be up to 6-7 years! However there is a facelift halfway (usually).
So basically when the A-Class with MBUX came out in 2018, most of the internals of a car will stay the same until it’s facelift at least and then they can upgrade multimedia systems and add new tech etc. Recently that’s how wireless CarPlay was added 👍🏼
Car production lines are probably so complex! 🤓
I have a 21 E53 with a dashcam from factory. It’s just a software that you can buy from MB for about $200. You just need to purchase a a C flash drive and connect it to your USB-C port inside the center console. Yes, it’s just a software your dealer can help you purchase.
Brilliant Nick, I’ve a EQA and never realised it did all that.
I’ll be looking for it next time.
Keep up the great videos
Hey! Ooo nice! Not sure it’s on an EQA, Digital Light is just on the larger cars in Mercedes but it might have MULTIBEAM LED. I covered that a year ago: www.youtube.com/@npoleary/search?query=multi
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hah thank you sadly because of my long legs! 🤓 I have to have the seat back to fit in!
Glad you enjoy the videos! 👍🏼

Another great video, thank you! Aren’t these headlights just so cool?! I’ve got multi beam led on my A35 which are incredible, but these are just another step forward, wow!

Ah thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓👌🏼
Interesting to see the lights in action. I've got a 2018 A250 and always been a bit concerned in case I'm blinding the oncoming driver.
Have a 22 A250e which comes with multibeam LED and I'm always a bit worried about dazzling drivers as sometimes it doesn't dim very quickly. These digital ones seem to react faster but we'll see when I get one in the future (hopefully!)
Hey Nick , you have good fan base .. 3 minutes from publishing videos 15 views and 8 likes 😊
Awh thank you! 🙏🙏
Brilliant! Can you retro fit these lights into my 2 year old CLA? Love Tech that is practical and helpful. Really interesting Video Nick, thank you
Which means constant turning on and off the system manually on a highway which defeats the whole purpose…
Which is strange as the manual says there is specifically a highway mode where full beam engages only your side, but I never seen that working.
@@npoleary thanks nick! I’ve already seen from the video that digital light is much faster than multi beam, that’s a great step forward :)
I often get flashed by oncoming traffic especially motorways so all have on manual
Nice video. These tests are very few on RUclips. Would love to see the same with BMW laser lights on an IX.
Yeah defo! Would love to test that too!

Ah yeah that’s it
It’ll adapt the light automatically 😎
As long you as you have adaptive lights! 😅
Sadly not I started my channel in 2020 so have coverage back a little while but never been in a 2013 one before. I’m guessing it might have ILS (Intelligent Light System)?
It’ll be similar tech if you do have that, usually you can tell by looking at the light cluster itself on the exterior.
I believe it looks like this: ruclips.net/video/jlkS-tPqFPU/видео.htmlsi=_ilrt4M1HDAZ_LI5
Awesome video.
Thank you! 🙏
@10:15 Every led or xenon headlight-system must have automatic hight-adjusting to be legal, only high beam lights can be without.
Vw had similar system in 2007, they lifted the beam the faster you drove.
amazing
Glad you enjoy them!
Haha well I only asked for a model with Digital Light so EQS might not fit on my drive! Although I might be getting a charger soon! Futureproofing! 😎
Great video. I think this would be useful with the drive pilot , but I think you can't use drive pilot at night.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I have tried Mercedes Driving Assistance Package but that was a while ago, will have to test it again somewhen!
Any Doom's port with this display?
I had that, mentioned in my review of my A-Class a couple of weeks ago. I just chatted with my local dealer and they sorted it.
@ thank you
Hmm - so I can't just change a bulb when it goes then............
But - these lights are EPIC!
Yeah those lights are pretty cool! 👌🏼
@npoleary thanks for the answer. I just bought 20 days ago. Still trying to get to know how car is this. Please keep release videos. Very useful. :)

There’s the main sensor at the top of the windscreen :)
Already reviewed the dashcam on Mercedes multiple times. There’s a few videos on my channel of it.

Driving through villages at night in South African, cows and donkeys are a huge problem... that spotlight feature would be thoroughly exercised
4) As far as you are aware, what could be the limitation (if some) in Italy and France (where I live and work usually)ù
Thanks in advance for your help
Regards
They're amazing
But there has been news of these digital lights theft across the UK and in my country South Africa. I don't know if selecting digital lights could be a risky take🤷🏽♂️.
Oh really? I heard that some people had targeted Porsche headlights but not heard any from other car manufacturers.
@@npoleary From Porsche is come, but for other manufacturers it also occurs. It's usually rare though.
Manufacturers like Volvo, Mercedes, Porsche, Ford, BMW matrix lights (digital lights) usually get stolen in South Africa. But rarely
Hi Nick, Adaptive Highbeam Assist is on when the instrument cluster shows the white light icon with an A in it right?
Yeah that’s it
White icon is auto 👍🏼
I have a new C300 with digital light package and the exit options aren't available 😞Hopefully will come as an update soonish as it took 6 months for the traffic cam assist to be " turned on " lol
Ah nice! Yeah maybe, might be worth giving Mercedes a shout. It does vary round the world
Some countries it’s not available, some you can choose at factory and some you can upgrade on the Mercedes me store.
Hi @@npoleary cheers thats me now £13 a month worse off 😂 as showed up as an optional purchase update once my Mercedes me app was updated. Its quite good you can subscribe month to month then cancel as we probably won't have much need for it in Scotland during the summer months. Ah awesome yeah I saw you can do it monthly now 🤓 pretty good! 🙏
Hey nick, is this available on the GLB 2022 version? Thank you love ur videos
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Working on the next one already😊
Sadly I don’t think so, but…you might be able to get MULTIBEAM LED on that model. Just chat with Mercedes and they’ll be able to let you know 😎 (depends on where you live and availability etc)
@@npoleary Thank you nick! I like the multibeam to!
Hello Nick, I’ve just bought the new CLE and it comes with “Preinstallation”: for projection function for symbol
“Preinstallation” for projection function for animations, is this actually available for use or is it at an additional cost?
Just replied to your other message on another video:
Ah that sounds cool! I’ve read that if anything states “Pre-installation” then you can potentially buy it in the Mercedes store app so probably best to look in there and see what Extras there are.
@@npoleary thank you 👍
Great video demo and explanation. However, other than the little left to right dance of the projectors at startup, no other features are available in the US. We have very old/lame laws here regarding headlights, so the stars waves and MB logo options are a no go. That's the US for ya. Laws and $ before safety.
Thank you! 🙏 It might change in the future though, fingers crossed! 🤞🏼
(ie. On unlit roads, I think.)
The way to go back to manual high beam is to take the main light selector switch out of it's top-of-the-dial 'Auto' position, taking it one click clockwise to the 'headlights' position. In that position the headlights go back to normal manual dipped or high beam operation. The downside, of course, is that one then has to remember to put the selector back to 'Auto' before switching off the car, otherwise the headlights will remain on.
Yeah that’s it! That’s how you change it to manual if you want to override it 🤓
Great explanation! Do the high beams turn on automatically? is there a manual way of having them on?
If you have adaptive lights on Mercedes, they operate exactly the same way as normal light systems. Push the indicator stalk away from you to toggle between auto and off.
If you want manual use, turn the light switch near the driver’s door to ON. Now the stalk will be manual
@@npoleary Thank you!
@gukkie87 no worries!
Hey Tony,
It was just a car that Mercedes Press Office very kindly let me borrow for a couple of nights to film this video. Can you speak with your local Mercedes? They might be able to check it out for you and check software on the car or something?
It has been available for 2 months, and I have it and purchased it. There are a couple of minor features missing, but they update OTA regularly.
@ Hello Nick,
Thank you so much for your help! It looks like the Merecde shop link is only available for UK regions, so I wasn’t able to check the availability since I’m in the US. Still, I really appreciate your support and quick response!
Ah head to the USA store, select that here: shop.mercedes-benz.com/dcp/static/maintenance/distributionMBCS.html
It will be vastly different in the states though!
@ thank you so much Nick . Just check the link And the feature is not available for my selected model due for the hardware 👍,
Ah cool, I was hoping it would work a similar way to the UK! At least you know 🙏
Very good & yes, great video - really informative. Quick question though, in your opinion; is it worth the subscription you have to pay or is it just a bit gimmicky?
Thank you! I haven’t seen these on subscription, they were specifically on a car that had to have it from factory.
But they were very impressive!
Just checked, can’t add it to my car 😅
Guess it depends how often you’re driving at night where you might find it useful 👍🏼
Sorry I wouldn’t know that :(
You’ll have to ask Mercedes themselves and hopefully they’ll keep you in the loop!
In terms of Digital Light, I’m not too sure on the range differences between the two, Digital light is more aimed at adjust and maximising your light coverage when their are object within your field of view.
Did you notice these to be brighter than the "normal" multibeam headlights or just more resolution?
They are brighter from what I've seen but most importantly they react faster to oncoming cars
Hi nick mine had a message of adaptive headlight restricted camera on my dashboard. Any suggestions?
Just replied to your other message: That can happen if the top of the windscreen is dirty, usually just clean the car and it’ll disappear.
I’ve had that happen on my car and sure enough it sorted itself afterward 🤓
@@npoleary thanks nick i did clean the windscreen it work for a couple of minutes and it didnt work again...
Did you have the car off when you cleaned the windscreen?
If it’s still not working after a clean I’d suggest getting in touch with a dealer so they can check it out.
One thing to note have you had the windscreen replaced (chips / cracks or repair or anything?)
I’ve heard that can affect it.
@@npoleary thanks!
Thank you.
Oh the Head Up Display? 🤓
I’ve covered that before at my local showroom here: ruclips.net/video/TNOqQrVfxqw/видео.htmlsi=mCGhxsu8-n7L93ZD
Very nice. Is it available in GLA or only in top end versions?
Sadly Digital Light from what I’ve seen isn’t on the smaller models but the larger ones like C-Class and higher.
But GLA’s can have Multibeam LED which I covered a year ago which is still impressive!
Thank you. For pricing it is understandable.
@@npoleary Wife's currently out with the car so i will check but the car spec sheet says MULTIBEAM LED

Does it have trafic signals projecting to road ?
I believe in some countries it can project when you’re in roadworks and if you’re approaching a car in front (when Active Brake Assist will kick in)
Do these digital like projections (all three of them), come in the 2024 GLC? Pinnacle line?
Possibly but really sorry I wouldn’t know. You’ll have to enquire with or ask Mercedes.
Mercedes Press Office were very kind and lent me a car for a couple of days but I wouldn’t know if tech inside is different on other models. I would hope it’s the same! But check with them to be 100% sure 🤓
Hi Nick. Just bought a C300 AMG Line Premium and the list of options included ‘Preinstallation’ of both projection and animation but does not project anything. Does ‘preinstallation’ mean you have to purchase these facilities?
I’ve heard of this before so not sure if Mercedes are bringing it out in future…I did spot this on the Mercedes menu store so maybe?
shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/connect/pdp/digital-light-with-projection-function/714
You might have to ask them! 🤓
Very clever lights but how much would a new headlight or bulb cost if they go wrong.. Won't be a few pounds like halogen or Xenon bulbs and I doubt if you could change yourself so more labour costs.
Yeah they are very clever lights! Not sure on the cost but yes it’s quite an advanced system!
This is why I asked and double checked that the lights are covered under warranty. And they are.
I’m sure they’re very very expensive to fix or replace.
Oh yeah they’d be covered under warranty of course 🤓
Good job I have the warranty, it's a Must for new cars.
i want to know... like if a car is following behind you, when you slam on the brake for complete stop, does it automally turn on and flash hazard lights?
It can do, most modern cars do this if the ABS is triggered. But it would have to be pretty severe braking so do it!
Hi Nick! I really need your help… ive just bought a used glc300e from 2020 and for some unknown reason my headrest on the driverside is stuck on the lowest position inside of my seat… ice tried brute force and also some love, but i somehow cant get it unstuck! You got any idea what i could do?

Oh hey! 🙏
Very nice!
@@npoleary thank you very much for your answer. I do know about the Release! Oh I see! Really sorry I wouldn’t know how that works on the seat but Mercedes do have technicians so if you get in touch with them, they’ll be able to help!
Hi Nick , I have got July 2023 GLE450 but do not have the projection that you mention . I think I have multi beam.
Ah yeah probably 🤓
I covered MULTIBEAM LED a little while ago here: ruclips.net/video/mmQ-xlYHu9Y/видео.htmlsi=i6K3Q3kjZJ3riCPA
MULTIBEAM is still incredible though!
@@npoleary Tx Nick , can digital light be retrofitted on a vehicle with multi beam ? If yes do you know how much will cost ?
No sadly not Mercedes do not retrofit anything to cars from what I’ve heard.
To give you an idea why, Digital Light for the GLE would only have become available recently on the facelift which has different lights so the cutouts would be different too.
So not only would the lights need to be different, the front bumper would need to be changed for the newly styled lights and the multimedia system to power it. And I’m sure the light sensor is probably upgraded in the top of the windscreen to “see” more at night.
I think this is why they do not fit retrofits because it would literally cost thousands even if they did offer it.
@@npoleary Tx Nick , makes sense . Tx for all your help . Have a lovely weekend 🙏
No worries and you! 🙏
Is it different from matrix led ? 😊
From another manufacturer? Or Mercedes Multibeam?
@Compared to Audi / VW matrix led
Really sorry not ever been able to use that just yet! Although I would very much like to check them out. I would imagine they are very similar though!
Sometimes I drive the dark roads just to see this, although I only have the multibeam. But sometimes it’s finicky and disables itself no idea why, or it doesn’t light as I expect it to
Ah nice! It’s pretty clever
It can happen at lower speeds, or if there’s too much light from streetlights can cause it to turn off or even on extremely curvy roads which would require a lower speed anyway.
Good to know! Not sure how many cars it can track but I’m sure it’s quite a few! 🤓
Wow!

I was between an e350 with no super screen but digital lights and an e450 with super screen but no digital lights and went e450 did I make a mistake?
This feature is incredible but, the amount of driving I do where I need full beam is very minimal. It’s rare that I even drive at night 😅
Although I do appreciate the no traffic at night! 😂
I don’t think you made a mistake, you have an E450 (faster and better sounding) and a SuperScreen. I probably would have picked what you have 👊🏼
Digital Lights are very cool, but I’d rather have spent money on something I’m going to use each day, passengers probably get in and go “wow” with a SuperScreen! 😊
I saw a video quite a few years ago that had this or very similar MBZ light system where you could actually type messages and have them displayed via the headlight (obviously whilst at a standstill) It was a working concept in an S class as I remember, probably 5 + years ago?
Yeah Digital Light was on a concept car ages ago but it’s actually out in public now 🤓
You can’t type messages though 😅
Whilst the new CLE (300 premium plus) is equipped with Digital Lights, not all of the features shown in this video are available, such as the farewell/welcome animations. I have yet to discover exactly which features are and are not available.

They say they brought it to the. A /cla facelifted models ? Is that right
No sadly not this tech otherwise I’d have put it on mine when I ordered my car 😅
There’s similar tech called MULTIBEAM LED which I covered a while ago: ruclips.net/video/mmQ-xlYHu9Y/видео.html
Do I have digital lights? I do have multi beam lights in my GLA 250e hybrid premium plus, does that mean I have these digital light technology?
You’ll have to check with Mercedes directly to see what spec you have 🤓
I don’t think Digital Light is available on the smaller models (I’ve just bought an A-Class and it wasn’t available on that one) pretty sure it’s just MULTIBEAM LED on compact cars.
Not aware Mercedes sell this tech to anyone else, but I’m sure there will be similar lighting systems in other manufacturers 👍🏼
And i thought the nightvision and cornering headlights on my 07 s65 were pretty cool😂 im so far behind smh
Having an S-Class isn’t behind! 😅
That’s an awesome car, I love the sound they make when they fire up 🔥
@@npoleary thank you, it does sound amazing creeping around at low speeds, im just always looking to upgrade you know how it is, i still keep both of my Mercedes in excellent shape
Unfortunately all these features are not on US versions of the c300
It depends! Until recently what I can only describe as fancy light systems, have not been allowed in the USA.
I believe (but you might want to check) that the law has changed to allow more sophisticated lighting systems but I would imagine it would be for cars from a particular date.
Mercedes A35 much better than my previous Audi A5
Not in Canada. It's disabled.

I would die of embarrassment if my car started beaming MERCEDES-BENZ all over the place when I tried to start it.
Haha
It was actually difficult to find a place the showcase it well to be honest. Most of the time it would project over other cars or fences or buildings etc (depends where you’re parked).
Most of the time it just looks like a pattern but if the surface is flat you can see it
