    Here's the Faraday Pouch I mentioned in the video:
    kit.co/npoleary/recommended-products/faraday-pouch-car-ke
    Basically they block all signals emitted from modern car keys, meaning that hackers and car thieves cannot clone them or use a relay method to start a car.
    Comes in a pack of two to protect the main key and the spare key!

      Hi Nick I have a question or more have a request for help have u or can you do a short video how best to re fit any of the letters which accidentally get knocked off from the Turbo logo on the side of AMG cars as I have managed to knock mine off while washing the car which unfortunately is easily done I look forward to your response.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 года назад

      Hey Pete, no I haven’t ever experienced that myself before however I’m sure they’re just stuck on with a weatherproof adhesive seal on the back of them.
      I’ve seen them before in a packet and it looks like the letters are all in one, don’t think the letters are sold separately but I could be completely wrong.
      I’m sure if you get in touch with your local Mercedes, they might be able to assist!

      Great video Nick. Please exercise caution with these pouches, I bought the very same pouches and the one that I use every day failed last weekend. I tested the one for my spare keys and that worked fine. In my experience the pouch lasted seven months, I would recommend periodic testing to ensure the pouch is actually blocking the signal from the key. Just as well one of your colleagues told me about double clicking the key on exit from the vehicle when I took delivery of my car. For now I’ve had to resort to wrapping my spare key in aluminium foil, which is effective at blocking the signal.

    As a Dutchman, I often watch your videos about Mercedes, and I learn a lot from them. What struck me in your video about security was your comment to park your car at night in a place with sufficient light; under a lamppost for example. This is to attract attention in case of danger.
    A recent study in the Netherlands indicated that such a thing is the wrong choice. A thief or burglar likes it when there is a little light, so he can do his job without using a "conspicuous" flashlight! In case the car is parked in a dark place, he will have to use a flashlight to see something at all. A moving light from a flashlight in a dark place therefore attracts more attention.
    I think this is a good point to highlight.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Год назад

      Thanks Kees van der Zwan, ah interesting. I guess it depends if they have a torch. Most CCTV clips that I have seen, criminals rely on ambient lighting from streetlights and almost never use a torch unless inside.
      Interesting though, I’d never thought of that!

      Hey Walt, I don’t believe so, in the UK there’s
      2x 2.0L Diesel engines with 200hp and 265hp
      And
      1x 1.5L Petrol engine with 200hp
      All feature a mild hybrid drive which means it can assist with either turning the engine off as you slow down or assisting with acceleration.
      There are rumours of a plug-in hybrid next year too!

    Happy to report that the new S-Class DOES take pictures during the Collision Impact notification, as long as you have a memory card inserted and the option selected in the Settings section. The unfortunate part, however, is that if you park in a parking garage that has several levels, and a heavier vehicle drives by, shaking the floor a bit, Mercedes will "assume" that was a collision and send you a message unnecessarily. Happened to us a few days after we bought the car, and freaked us out! ha ha...no damage though!

    You may well have already done one of these videos….but as a new Mercedes owner (2021 GLE 350), I’m looking for guidance as to how to maximize the all safety features of my car - it’s definitely winter here in Canada so I want to be as safe on the road as possible.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 года назад +1

      Hey Joe! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
      I’ve covered a few safety features found in Mercedes models, but for the best winter performance a 4 Wheel Drive is best so good choice on the GLE! 🤓
      Adding winter tyres can help increase performance in the cold.
      I’d recommend though on Dynamic Select using Eco as it will limit the amount of power to the road and ensure smooth power delivery.

    Just a hint on the faraday pouch. I do have aftermarket pouches but tinfoil works just as well. I’ve tested it. Lock your car and wrap your Mercedes key in it. Then touch the door handle. The car won’t open. Certainly not as convenient but if you’re in a pinch…

      Thank you!
      They’ll just be off in settings, if you toggle it back on, then they’ll fold back in again.
      The reason why that’s changed is because there are profiles in the car and the default settings are not to fold the mirrors in.
      So if your car has this with the users:
      User 1
      Fold in mirrors ✅
      User 2
      Fold in Mirrors ✅
      Guest
      Fold in Mirrors ❌
      If you have selected guest then this is why they will have stopped working. Best thing to do is to log into each profile and re-enable fold in mirrors for each person.
      Home
      Settings
      Vehicle
      And I think it’s in there (from memory)

    Collision detection is good but....... Its way behind the curve of Tesla. I have 4 or 5 cameras on my mercedes and for them to sit dormant during an incident is crazy. GDPR isn't a consideration providing the data is recorded to a drive within the vehicle and not the Mercedes cloud. Tesla uses the 360 cameras for this very purpose.

    Thanks Nick, really useful. Before I had my key programmed, I used to be able to press the lock button twice and that will deactivate keyless. But I've just had my key programmed as I lost one of them and I am now unable to disable keyless entry on both keys by double pressing lock button. Is this a programming issue? I guess I should take the keys back to the dealer to have a look.

I put my back-pack in the trunk and left my car key also in it and closed the trunk keyless. Then I couldn't open any of the doors including the trunk. the only solution I found was to fetch the spare key from home and open the car. Now I'm so careful not to leave the key in the trunk. Hi Nick, I'm not sure if this makes any sense, but I still want to check with you. I have noticed a few random but strange things in the Mercedes GLE 2021 these days - like the SOS dial button attached to the windshield is ON (the red light under the button is active) almost frequently, I am noticing for the past three days.
    Secondly, these days I also noticed that the sunroof opened, but only the first part, i.e. the cloth side panel pulled backwards. The glass cover os still not opened.
    Thirdly, I feel that the air conditioner is also not been working properly for the past two weeks. It's blowing quite hot air, even at 19 or 20 degrees. I usually keep AC on, with auto and sync mode active. The air seems hot and unbearable when it touches my hand while holding the steering. I immediately make the 17 deg for 5-7 minutes, and the it starts blowing cold air.
    These are few things I have been experiencing which seems to me a bit odd and confusing. Have you heard anything about these things?

      @npoleary  Год назад

      Hey sambakorea,
      Yes I’ve seen the red light on too, I would presume it’s just illuminated so you can see where it is 👍🏼
      Not sure I understand about the sunroof, it’s a three way switch, same button for the blind, opening the roof on vent and opening the roof fully (above the driver only)
      Also if you don’t think your heating is working right, I’d defo speak to Mercedes about it

      Not sure to be honest, but they do last a long time! The last two Mercedes I owned, the spare key still had charge after 2 years so it should be fine! I believe After-Sales in Mercedes dealerships replace the batteries every two years anyway on it’s service.

    Nick do you know if Park Assist on current Mercedes models have been de activated?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 года назад

      Sadly Active Parking Assist parking assist had been removed from certain new models from approx 2020 onwards. This was due to the new United Nations regulation (UN-R-79).
      This basically requires systems like this to have a hands on / hands off sensor to detect if you have your hands on the steering wheel or not.
      I'm sure Mercedes-Benz are working hard on this for future models in years to come but hasn’t been available on new cars for quite a while.

    Apple Airtag with speaker removed.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  11 месяцев назад

      Yeah! I would love to try them actually and test them. The only issue is see is that they need a ping off another Apple product so it might take a few days to get a reading. Cheap and inexpensive for sure though!

    • @rfen56
      @rfen56 11 месяцев назад

      I'm going to try it, I bought vaults for the airtag that can be placed almost anywhere. The plus and minus as I understand it now, is that the airtag will report to any nearby device that they are being tracked - and then give them the opportunity to search for it along with audio (hence the speaker removal). But, someone, and maybe you can do this, did a test of how long it took for the airtag to report, and it seemed like a long time. If someone steals your car for a joyride, they might be driving long enough to get that "report". But someone who is stealing your car for a chop shop probably would not be in it long enough to get the alert. Love your channel Nick, keep up the good work!@@npoleary

    Hi Nick, I am living in Sydney Australia. I just got a A250e last month and have noticed that since delivery the estimated battery range has reduced from approx 62km to now only 48kms after charging to 100%. We do not run air conditioning for any length of time and we drive very conservatively. Is this normal ?.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 года назад +1

      Yes this is completely normal it’s how it’s designed and to be honest is no different to the range indicator on petrol / diesels on all cars.
      Range indicators are adaptive and show you an estimated range based on the last 200 miles of driving, as well as outside ambient temperature, use of A/C heating & cooling etc.
      If you do lots of shorter small journeys overtime, the car will estimate that you’ll get less, but then if you do a longer journey with speeds over 40mph it’ll show more range.
      Seasons also affect this too, so in the winter it will show less but then as it gets warmer (optimum is 23°C) it’ll show more.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 года назад

      Hey Ralph, yes you’re right! Most modern cars now have oil measurement on the screen. Basically there’s a max level and a low level at which point the car will notify you to get it checked.

    As always useful information, thank you Nick! About the "Consider where you park", unfortunately I recently had a bad experience: someone deliberately scratched in multiple sides my Mercedes in plain day, while it was parked and I was away.. It was parked perfectly and far away from other cars. Fortunately the damage was repaired with insurance. However, it was frustrating and I would have liked to know who did it, but unfortunately the parking lot was not under video surveillance.... It would be nice if there was some solution to avoid these kind of inconveniences, apart from keeping your car in garage, of course! 😊 So after this experience I add a point: if possible, park always where there is video surveillance!

My 2021 GLA has it in the info system as active but the seats do not move when the setting is set to on. Just a thought: in my experience with those faraday pouches they appear not to last forever!
    Both cars (different manufacturers) are wireless so I bought two of the pouches and tested them out. Yep success, after about six months the one for my wife’s car had stopped working and she could open the car with the key still in the pouch. Cue a lot of testing and swapping of keys and I found my pouch had given up the ghost too.
    I have no idea why, it’s a pouch. It just has to do pouch like things and be there. It doesn’t get abused or used incorrectly (you just put the keys in and press the Velcro down). Very odd - we bought two more and they lasted about six months as well. I’d be intrigued if any one else has experienced that?
