It works. My car has it, I have driven other cars with it. Biggest issue? It reacts much differently than I do and is much more liberal with brake usage.
Other than that, the more you pay attention to while driving, the better.

    Oh man i love ACC..
Use to drive long distances (350km/217m) with my old 2007 Twingo...
Hell man, I can assure how tired you can get, if you arrive..
It's all no more, when I changed my Vehicle to a 2019 model with ACC..
Since I got the new vehicle, I constantly look for highways, even if have to accept driving short detours to reach the highway..

Pay attention know your space between vehicles and if you are tried breaks or rest or other drivers respect my thoughts

ACC works great in my Tacoma. It’s on over 95% of the time when I drive.

In using ACC, does the brake lights function for those cars behind your vehicle? How do they know you are slowing down/breaking?

its going to have to get *much* better before its worth upgrading from my old-style cruise control.

Try it. It’s so much better. I drove the old cruise control and the new versions of smart cruise control is so nice to drive with. However if you’re old school stick with the ancient cruise control.

      That's an "interesting" comment.
So what you are saying is something that is already tens of times better than old-style cruise control needs to be better than it is for you to stop using the worse cruise control?
I can tell you that 5 of my work colleagues would not have been killed if the truck that hit their vehicle at 60mph, from behind, had adaptive cruise control, not old style - while the driver was not paying attention. Adaptive cruise control will stop a vehicle without driver input.

First, I don’t think you are going to be able upgrade your old-style cruise control. Next, I’m curious to know what improvements would make it worthwhile to change. I find it most useful in high-speed congested traffic. Reducing the risk of rear end collisions is the part that is most valuable to me.

I really like the ACC in my 2021 Passat, but it has just one annoying flaw:if a car ahead of me moves into a left turn lane, ACC brakes hard as I begin to approach that car which is now in the lane to my left and not in front of me anymore. ACC does eventually start accelerating again but not before hacking off the drivers behind me who weren’t expecting me to hit the brakes. When I see this about to happen, my workaround is just to tap the brake to disengage the cruise control so that I can take over manually just until I get past the exiting or turning car, then I turn it back on.
