The thing is that Ricky has never actually been in a position to choose between Gina and Nini (he only reconnected with Nini in season 1 when Gina was leaving and got back together with her when he thought Gina wasn’t staying). This moment though, he does have the opportunity to choose. Nini is in the audience and Ricky has no idea she’s thinking about moving, Gina is in the wings and he doesn’t know where he stands with her, but he’s singing a love song and when he’s given the opportunity to choose between Nini and Gina, Ricky chooses Gina.
That’s just not true and we all know it LMFAO Ricky and Nini were the main couple that’s clear as day. They probably changed it after how bad Joshua and Olivia’s IRL breakup was.. but Olivia ended up leaving the show anyway

Dawson and Joey from Dawson’s Creek (of which Tim Federle is a big fan and has said he took inspiration from for hsmtmts), but the show runners realized there was better chemistry between Pacey and Joey than between her and Dawson. The same thing happened here. And there’s evidence to support what Tim has said as well, most notably The Rina Cue, which is the only backing music for any couple in the ENTIRE show and has been present since season 1. Also there’s no reason not to believe Tim about Ricky and Gina being the plan since Homecoming. Most writers and show runners are very honest about what the plans were before there were cast changes, especially after a show has ended (for example The Resident with Conrad and Billie’s relationship or New Amsterdam with Max and Wilder getting together). Obviously Olivia leaving changed plans for the show, but ultimately it didn’t change the plan for Ricky and Gina, and the reason I know this is because I have evidence, while the assertion that Olivia leaving prevented Ricky and Nini getting back together eventually is purely conjecture.
Interview with the show creator he states that once they saw the chemistry between Sofia and Joshua in the car scene they decided they would end up together. They created the music that occurs every time Gina or Ricky realize they have feelings for the other -- the Rina cue. First time you hear it is in the car scene season 1.
Fun fact: in the original script it was Ricky confessing to gina and he admitted that it was him that got her the chocolates but the creator stuck with Gina confessing instead AND the creator of the show said the scene with Ricky and gina in the car after homecoming in season 1 changed the trajectory of the show because of the chemistry between sofia and josh and if they got more seasons it was always gonna be Ricky and gina 🤭 so take THAT Greg! For me, Ricky and Gina is definitely my favorite couple from the show, watching them in season 4 really makes it clear to me that they work so much better together than Ricky did with Nini and Gina did with EJ
The thing that makes Ricky and Gina such a great ship isn't just that their chemistry is phenomenal, it's that their overarching character arcs are very complementary. I think Tara summarised Gina and EJ as a couple pretty well, yes they were sweet but ultimately it couldn't work long term. I so agree with you Tara! Gina gave EJ several chances. She wasn't getting what she wanted or needed and there is nothing wrong with her not settling. What was she suppose to do when he didn't even save her a dance like he promised? If he doesn't have time for her now he certainly isn't going to have time for her later when his responsibilities only get greater. And the big reason EJ was putting so much pressure on himself for this play was because of his dad. And I think both of them learned something from this relationship. I think losing Gina gave him the impetus to stand up to his dad. And Gina learned what she wanted and needed in a relationship. I think Gina and EJ have chemistry. But the chemistry between Gina and Ricky is on another level. Tara is right that they have real chemistry.

The reason why olivia didn’t have scenes with any other cast members was because she filmed all her scenes November - December (2021). On the other hand the cast filmed s3 January - April (2022) during this time Olivia couldn’t film since she had tour rehearsal for her SOUR TOUR which started April so the months before April she had rehearsals and attended many award shows like the Grammys!
Gina’s speech to him is sooo perfect, it parallels what she said to him in the dressing room in season 1 with the “i’m going to walk out of here with my head held high” thing except Ricky stops her this time - they’ve always been building up to Rina since the start
For the record, as a stage director myself, opening night for directors is very stressful but also arguably you don’t really do anything lmao. Like yes you stress and all but… the directing is over. So is not like Gina breaking up with him the night before opening is gonna affect his directing at all, because by that day his work is over. Like him going over lines in an event the night before with the actors is actually contra-productive. Rule #1 is that if you are stressed and anxious you don’t pass that to your actors. If anything it would affect Gina way more as her moment to put in the work is opening night as an actress lmao
I’d be more sympathetic towards EJ’s plight with Gina if she hadn’t given him an out at the beginning of Camp. In episode 2 Gina suggests that they take a step back from their relationship so EJ can focus on the show. EJ refuses, which sets up the idea he can be both a good boyfriend and director, and then he proceeds to choose the show over Gina at every opportunity, despite Gina saying on multiple occasions that she wanted to spend time with him. This is also the beginning of their relationship (I’ve done the math, they’ve been together approximately 7-8 weeks including camp) which means this two weeks isn’t an outlier in their relationship, it’s the beginning of a pattern, and Gina cannot have another person in her life that consistently chooses work over her.
But it is an outlier… why would a 2 week summer camp be indicative of the rest of their relationship? Even if it did turn out to be a pattern it’s really stupid to call it before the camp is even over like maybe give it one week after camp ends?? It just makes no sense imo lmao.
@@ptona3287 here’s how I see it: If EJ and Gina had been together 6 months instead of 6 weeks and EJ got consumed by directing at camp, Gina could look at their whole relationship and see this 2 week span as an isolated incident. But they have only been together for 6 weeks, which is why Gina gives him that out in the first place. They should still be in their honeymoon phase and he is so consumed by directing that he sidelines Gina. Because their relationship is still so new Gina tells EJ how she’s feeling multiple times while also lowering the bar just to keep their relationship going. That plus her relationship with her family, Gina sees an all too familiar pattern starting to form. Also we’ve known EJ as long as Gina has and we see EJ throw himself into things and become all consumed by them. This is not new behavior, this is standard EJ.
imo, you don't even need to consider these two weeks or the 7-8 as you said. one singular moment even before they got together is indicative of the kind of guy ej is in terms of relationships. when gina's brother does the whole (im glad gina has a bro figure here) thing EJs immediate reaction is to sulk and push her away without talking it out and clearing things up. he made her ugly sob before they even had their first date. SHE had to ask him to kiss her. SHE had to break it down to him of all that he was doing wrong as if he isn't a full grown adult who has had abundant experience in relationships (while this was her first) meanwhile with ricky all she has to do is tell him how she feels, appreciate him a little and he kisses the ground ahe walks on.

EJ matured so much over the course of the show I’m really proud of him but I knew him and Gina were never gonna be endgame bc he’s two years older than her. Yes he was busy directing the musical but he would’ve been going away soon anyway (I know he wanted to take a gap year but doing that just for a gf is not wise lol). I think their break up made sense even though it is sad that they barely got to start before they ended. I’ve been a Rina truther since season 1 though so I was never too invested in them lmao. So excited for s4 it’s my favorite!
Ej served his purpose to be Gina’s first boyfriend lol. I don’t think people who watch casually will analyze the show as much as the pandemic audience who watched it live did to catch all the ricky x gina callbacks since s1- one in particular is in s1: in Gina’s confessions to ricky she tells him she never does anything right the first time. Then at the end s2, she asks ej to be her “first kiss” and at the beginning of s3, she goes on and on about all the “firsts” she was excited to experience with ej. She was too deep in the bliss of her first relationship to remember her own words, that she never does anything right the first time. It’s also why her first confession to ricky didn’t go right for her at all (she was leaving) but the second one, she got the boy lol. Yes, Ejs situation sucks to the average viewer who enjoyed gina x ej for the ‘midgame’ ship that they were meant to be, but it was ultimately the role the writer had for him (he’s a big fan of ricky and gina it’s actually so… 😭 to watch a writer ship his own characters the way he does, I mean literally cheesing in interviews when talking about them😭).
This season was soooo good. ❤️ Also I'm from Brazil and this show was trending every week for sure ahahaha. The next one is the final season I CANT BELIEVE IT. But wait WASTHAT JOJO SIWA??? HOW DID I NOT GET THAT THE FIRST TIME.
I actually hated the “brother” line from EJ because he and Ricky weren’t even that close😭 they barely started being friendly in s2 and they start semi beefing in s3 over Gina.
Yeah I agree, they were never that close. Ricky seems closer with Jet and they’ve only known each other for a couple weeks. The only way I can wrap my head around it is that maybe EJ had it out with his dad when they got back from Camp and then EJ crashed on Ricky’s couch for the month before the premiere. That would also explain why Ricky and Gina didn’t get together in the interim.
Ej and Gina were never going to work he is starting college at the same time as she starts her junior year in high school they are in two completely different stages of their lives
Corbin starting to sing Everyday will never not give me goosebumps, its one of my favorite moments from the entire show! This season is sooo good, and season 4 will get even better! I can't wait to go through that with y'all as well

yeah I noticed a lot of series do that when a main character is being written out they slowly find some way to have them like separate / no involved in the actual main plot in their final episodes. I guess it makes it easier for the audience to move on from them leaving so it’s like their absence isn’t extremely strong once they’re gone
Now for Season 4! Almost every other episode in season 4 had me bawling tears… Since the last episode with khourtney dealing with her anxiety to perform had my tear ducts in a vice grip.

Big Red coming out was probably the hardest I ever laughed out loud at the series. Such a perfectly placed moment at the end of the season after everything Ashlyn had gone through at camp.
These songs are not OGs, they’re from the Camp Rock movies 🤣 And ‘OG songs’ is used correctly, in the sense that songs were written ORIGINALLY for the show, like “Born to Be Brave” or “Just For A Moment,” unlike reusing songs from the HSM trilogy or Camp Rock movies.

I love you guys and your reactions but you have been insanely bias since the first season and how of a big star olivia is that it’s blinding you for noticing that gina and ricky were always going to be the endgame (regardless olivia’s exist) and there were always proof about them and how THEY are the real troy and gabriella. And about that last comment, no, gina and ej DO NOT have a better chemestry than sofia and josh, with them it always seemed and felt so natural whenever they were together. I just can’t wait for you to start season 4 and really enjoy their growth (and please, stop comparing them to nini, she is not part of the equation anymore)
The thing you guys said about Jenn adding so much in the show is soooo real. I remeber watching this season and i wasn't enjoying ar all and when i saw her I understand why.... I love her energy and what she brings to the show. Season 4 is one my favorite because she shines a lot in that season.
I def agree with Tara! I think Gina needs that stability and she wasn't getting that with EJ. And it's not EJ's fault that he has a lot going on in his life either. Like Gina said, his world is growing meanwhile she's still navigating hers as is. It's better that they broke off. Now Ricky and Gina want the same thing and they provide each other with the same love and support they need.
34:59 EJ has been dying since day one. First Nini and Ricky break up and EJ dates Nini while Ricky tries to get Nini back and dates Gina for a bit. Then he realizes that he's not for her and breaks up with her. In season 2 him and Gina slowly get together, just for them to break up at the end of season 3, in which Ricky gets with Gina again and EJ is once again alone.
The romance felt right at first but they just placed the kiss and them saying eachothers feelings at a weird spot. They should've let it carry on a bit
I find myself in an interesting place with ej. I agree that he was great at the end after everything ended with him and gina in the way that he didnt hold anything against her or ricky, but he could have solved evrything had he asked for help and let himself have fun. Sure, directing toom a lot of time, and they could have supported him more, but he was also actively trying to do it all by himself. It goes all the way back to episode 3 when he didnt walk in the woods with ricky and gine. Gina and ricky have just had amazing chemistry since season one. So much more than she ever had with ej. I love how ricky never pushed his feelings forward after he saw how gina was feeling and everything she deals with. I didagree with greg though in that there were a lot of moments in this season that showed a slight push toward gina and ricky. Also, the alternate ending was written to show that ricky was behind gina getting the chocolates on valentines day, and i choose to accept that as canon. Also, both of the songs that you guys said were originals were from camp rock and camp rock 2. I would also like to say that the younger girl's song is a hige disconnect for me. I never cared about her character and honestly dont get why she got a song this season. It didnt really make sense to me.

This is also the beginning of their relationship (I’ve done the math, they’ve been together approximately 7-8 weeks including camp) which means this two weeks isn’t an outlier in their relationship, it’s the beginning of a pattern, and Gina cannot have another person in her life that consistently chooses work over her.
But it is an outlier… why would a 2 week summer camp be indicative of the rest of their relationship? Even if it did turn out to be a pattern it’s really stupid to call it before the camp is even over like maybe give it one week after camp ends?? It just makes no sense imo lmao.
@@ptona3287 here’s how I see it: If EJ and Gina had been together 6 months instead of 6 weeks and EJ got consumed by directing at camp, Gina could look at their whole relationship and see this 2 week span as an isolated incident. But they have only been together for 6 weeks, which is why Gina gives him that out in the first place. They should still be in their honeymoon phase and he is so consumed by directing that he sidelines Gina. Because their relationship is still so new Gina tells EJ how she’s feeling multiple times while also lowering the bar just to keep their relationship going. That plus her relationship with her family, Gina sees an all too familiar pattern starting to form.
Also we’ve known EJ as long as Gina has and we see EJ throw himself into things and become all consumed by them. This is not new behavior, this is standard EJ.
imo, you don't even need to consider these two weeks or the 7-8 as you said. one singular moment even before they got together is indicative of the kind of guy ej is in terms of relationships. when gina's brother does the whole (im glad gina has a bro figure here) thing EJs immediate reaction is to sulk and push her away without talking it out and clearing things up. he made her ugly sob before they even had their first date. SHE had to ask him to kiss her. SHE had to break it down to him of all that he was doing wrong as if he isn't a full grown adult who has had abundant experience in relationships (while this was her first) meanwhile with ricky all she has to do is tell him how she feels, appreciate him a little and he kisses the ground ahe walks on.

EJ matured so much over the course of the show I’m really proud of him but I knew him and Gina were never gonna be endgame bc he’s two years older than her. Yes he was busy directing the musical but he would’ve been going away soon anyway (I know he wanted to take a gap year but doing that just for a gf is not wise lol). I think their break up made sense even though it is sad that they barely got to start before they ended. I’ve been a Rina truther since season 1 though so I was never too invested in them lmao. So excited for s4 it’s my favorite!

Ej served his purpose to be Gina’s first boyfriend lol. I don’t think people who watch casually will analyze the show as much as the pandemic audience who watched it live did to catch all the ricky x gina callbacks since s1- one in particular is in s1: in Gina’s confessions to ricky she tells him she never does anything right the first time. Then at the end s2, she asks ej to be her “first kiss” and at the beginning of s3, she goes on and on about all the “firsts” she was excited to experience with ej. She was too deep in the bliss of her first relationship to remember her own words, that she never does anything right the first time. It’s also why her first confession to ricky didn’t go right for her at all (she was leaving) but the second one, she got the boy lol. Yes, Ejs situation sucks to the average viewer who enjoyed gina x ej for the ‘midgame’ ship that they were meant to be, but it was ultimately the role the writer had for him (he’s a big fan of ricky and gina it’s actually so… 😭 to watch a writer ship his own characters the way he does, I mean literally cheesing in interviews when talking about them😭).

I actually hated the “brother” line from EJ because he and Ricky weren’t even that close😭 they barely started being friendly in s2 and they start semi beefing in s3 over Gina.
Yeah I agree, they were never that close. Ricky seems closer with Jet and they’ve only known each other for a couple weeks. The only way I can wrap my head around it is that maybe EJ had it out with his dad when they got back from Camp and then EJ crashed on Ricky’s couch for the month before the premiere. That would also explain why Ricky and Gina didn’t get together in the interim.

yeah I noticed a lot of series do that when a main character is being written out they slowly find some way to have them like separate / no involved in the actual main plot in their final episodes. I love you guys and your reactions but you have been insanely bias since the first season and how of a big star olivia is that it’s blinding you for noticing that gina and ricky were always going to be the endgame (regardless olivia’s exist) and there were always proof about them and how THEY are the real troy and gabriella. And about that last comment, no, gina and ej DO NOT have a better chemestry than sofia and josh, with them it always seemed and felt so natural whenever they were together. I just can’t wait for you to start season 4 and really enjoy their growth (and please, stop comparing them to nini, she is not part of the equation anymore)
The thing you guys said about Jenn adding so much in the show is soooo real. I remeber watching this season and i wasn't enjoying ar all and when i saw her I understand why.... I love her energy and what she brings to the show. Season 4 is one my favorite because she shines a lot in that season.

I def agree with Tara! I think Gina needs that stability and she wasn't getting that with EJ. And it's not EJ's fault that he has a lot going on in his life either. Like Gina said, his world is growing meanwhile she's still navigating hers as is. It's better that they broke off. Now Ricky and Gina want the same thing and they provide each other with the same love and support they need.

34:59 EJ has been dying since day one. First Nini and Ricky break up and EJ dates Nini while Ricky tries to get Nini back and dates Gina for a bit. Then he realizes that he's not for her and breaks up with her. In season 2 him and Gina slowly get together, just for them to break up at the end of season 3, in which Ricky gets with Gina again and EJ is once again alone.

Season 4 is amazing
I find myself in an interesting place with ej. I agree that he was great at the end after everything ended with him and gina in the way that he didnt hold anything against her or ricky, but he could have solved evrything had he asked for help and let himself have fun. Sure, directing toom a lot of time, and they could have supported him more, but he was also actively trying to do it all by himself. It goes all the way back to episode 3 when he didnt walk in the woods with ricky and gine. Gina and ricky have just had amazing chemistry since season one. So much more than she ever had with ej. I love how ricky never pushed his feelings forward after he saw how gina was feeling and everything she deals with. I didagree with greg though in that there were a lot of moments in this season that showed a slight push toward gina and ricky. Also, the alternate ending was written to show that ricky was behind gina getting the chocolates on valentines day, and i choose to accept that as canon. Also, both of the songs that you guys said were originals were from camp rock and camp rock 2. I would also like to say that the younger girl's song is a hige disconnect for me. I never cared about her character and honestly dont get why she got a song this season. It didnt really make sense to me.
