Taylor Swift - folklore
/ folklore
open.spotify.c...
Folklore is the eighth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It was surprise-released on July 24, 2020, via Republic Records. Swift recorded her vocals in her Los Angeles home studio and worked virtually with the producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, who operated from their studios in the Hudson Valley and New York City.
Using a set of characters and story arcs to depict fictional narratives, it departs from the autobiographical songwriting that had characterized Swift's past albums. Experimenting with new musical styles for Swift, Folklore consists of mellow ballads driven by piano, strings, and muted percussions; music critics mostly classify the genre as indie folk and alternative rock. The album's title was inspired by the lasting legacy of folktales, and its visual aesthetic adopts cottagecore.
Folklore was accompanied by the concert documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, featuring Swift's commentary and performances. The album topped the charts in Australasia and various European countries, and it was certified platinum or higher in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, it spent eight weeks atop the Billboard 200 and was the best-selling album of 2020. Three songs, "Cardigan", "The 1", and "Exile" featuring Bon Iver, reached the top 10 on international singles charts, with "Cardigan" peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Folklore received widespread critical acclaim for its emotional weight and intricate lyricism; some journalists commented that its introspective tone was timely for the pandemic and regarded its sound as a bold reinvention of Swift's artistry. Many publications featured the album on their 2020 year-end rankings, and Rolling Stone included it in their 2023 revision of their "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. Folklore won Album of the Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, making Swift the first woman to win the honor three times. The album informed the concept of Swift's next record, Evermore (2020), boosted Dessner's reputation, and has inspired other artists' works.

i prayed for times like these
LITERALLY I havent even made it to the first song but this hour is abt to go crazy
NO LITERALLY
real
Okay now I *need* them to watch the Long Pond sessions, and hear her talk about her songwriting process.
the taylor hate comments are crazy 😭😭😭 just watch another video bro, its not that hard. they do music reaction content, taylor makes music, get over it.
i haven’t filtered comments by newest so i’ve only seen positive ones, but yeah if anyone doesn’t like taylor swift that’s fine just skip this video we post like 6 videos a month usually all different genres so lots to choose from if taylor isn’t for you
@@turningthetablesplsss do evermore next
@@turningthetables please rep next
oh please swifties are such babies literally everyone gets dragged + your fav is both problematic and less than mid. “get over it” take your own advice maybe idk .
@alolaninetales everyone else here is just celebrating taylor's discography and here you are acting like a victim in your free time lmao
This album randomly came up on my spotify during peak Covid and I was hooked instantly. Honestly Taylor has a lot of great songs and people who hate her just haven't really listened to her.
SO excited to see y'all diving into Taylor's discography! I hope you end up doing more of her albums.
Love seeing you guys react to classics like Melodrama and folklore so I can relive some of my favorite albums with yall. My taste in music is definitely more female(and kind of indie/pop) skewed, so seeing stuff like this is awesome.
Some albums I recommend are: Solar Power, Evermore, Big Ideas (Remi Wolf), Pure Heroine, NO HANDS (Joey Valence & Brae), Found Heaven (Conan Gray), and NO THANK YOU (Little Simz).
one of taylor’s best! this album and evermore are some of my personal favs
we’ve been eating good
I wish I liked her other albums as much as I like those two, I adore them both but I dont really connect with her other projects
@@favOriTe-v6ei feel the same way
@@favOriTe-v6e i love her other albums but i think of her as two separate artists for some reason lmao so i think it's fair
ever…more?
i knew kevin was gonna be a folklore girlie hahahha
oh to hear folklore for the first time ever must be the best sentimental rollercoaster ever.
Folklore and evermore converted me from taylor sceptic to fan. Love these so much and as a person who just got into adulhood these really came at the right time for me.
Taylor has slowly grown on me this year. I found her a hard artist to get into just because of the sheer abundance of her discography. Now that I have listeners to all of her album I see why so many people follow her so closely. The way she weaves lyrics and concepts together is incredible. She definitely has mediocre overplayed songs but she also has an abundance of lyrical masterpieces. I would definitely recommend Evermore next.
her best album this this day.
is evermore
Highly recommend the lakes and then all of evermore. Your dad will love the stories in that one. She just kept going!
This whole album makes me feel like I’m reading such an emotional book. 😩😩 her storytelling in this one hits in the feels. 💔
“You drew stars around my scars
But now I’m bleeding” is the most iconic lyric out there I fear🔥
and "i knew you'd haunt all of my what ifs"
@@matti706 right!!
If that's the most iconic I fear for her fans 😂 she must be farming fans from brainrot tiktok
If that's the most iconic I fear for her fans 😂 she must be farming fans from brainrot tiktok
there really is a reason why August is a popular song despite not being a single. that song is pure pop perfection and definitely one of the bests in her discography.
even jack antonoff says it is one of his fave productions ever
YES! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, I'M SO HAPPY
So happy to see this! And yes her vocals have improved tremendously in the 18yrs she has been doing this. Just saw her in Miami last week and it was the best time of my life. Amazing show!
Let’s all agree. She’s just everything. A sharp poet, a captivating musician and a power house of a performer. There’s no doubt why she’s the most successful out there! She has 11 absolutely different from each other albums, in which she always challenges herself to do something unique
Meh
so excited to see you guys doing this album! probably one of my faves of all time. there’s just a magical energy about it that draws me in.
epiphany will never not make me tear up. i remember listening to folklore the night it came out, mid 2020. we were all so scared, everyone we knew had lost someone to covid, we were terrified of the side effects and collectively grieving. i had been suppressing those feelings for months in order to keep myself together, but one night i listened to epiphany and just cried for hours. it helped me relieve everything that was bottled up, even if i wasn’t a healthcare professional. now, every time i listen to that song, i am thrown back to that moment in time. it’s truly a time capsule, it vocalizes that strange comunal feeling in a way that wasn’t cheesy or out of touch. it gets me every single time.
I was a Nurse during COVID and Epiphany was my lifeboat song!
Yes! I was lost my job for 18 months due to Covid and I listened to this while doing puzzles late into to the night all that summer. She managed to capture the total feeling of ennui, uncertainty and fear of that time, while writing about all kinds of emotions.
love the vibes, guys! there's a song called "the lakes" on the deluxe version of this album, think you'll love it!
that turned out to be like one of my favorite songs of hers and maybe of all time. its so so beautiful
i have been waiting for this for YEARSSSS
I am once again begging for Ethel Cain 'Preacher's Daughter' !!!!!!!!!!
yesss!❤️
this feels like christmas
I grew up listening to Taylor but fell off for awhile with her music, but I remember this album and Evermore being just what I needed in that 2020 lockdown era and she's been killing it since! Love seeing people explore the depth of her discography for the first time!
Oh my god.. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!! THANK YOU!!! Ahhhh so excited!!
It's so interesting that 'the 1' made Kevin want to cry, because I find the song so calming and relaxing. It's a song about a lost love, but the music and the tone say to me that 'everything's gonna be okay.'
It's a song I listen to when I'm feeling anxious and need to relax.
A song being calming, relaxing, and feeling like "everything's gonna be ok" is precisely why it might make someone cry. Those thing aren't mutually exclusive.
I think the only right way to move on to the next taylor album is to listen to evermore since folklore and evermore are sister albums
folklore is so good so is evermore cowboy like me is my all time favourite song and reputation a no skip album for sure
The twisted in bedsheets part had me crying with laughter
yay! one of my top 3 Taylor albums! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
OMG I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO SINCE I FIRST MET THIS CHANNEL
this is lowkey huge
To your point about not being impressive live when she was starting out in my opinion Taylor Swift arguably wasnt that great vocally then. Her voice sounded thin and weak often. But her voice has improved soooo much because its matured over the years. Her writing, melodies and hooks have always been solid.
Yeah, I left a comment about this, too. Her voice was weaker and untrained, but she wrote honest, catchy songs about being a young woman and had great charisma, worked her ass off, and had the help of her parents. But it was always her songwriting that made her special: she's been writing her own damn good songs for over twenty years.
AND she's obviously put forth major efforts in learning how to use her voice to its greatest extent.
Love her.
you CAN'T skip The Lakes! 🩷
Highly recommend the long pond session for the patron!
Favorite reaction channel ever. You guys vibe to everything and it’s so sweet 🫶🏽
this is my superbowl
Thank you for doing Taylor. Mostly, thank you for actually appreciating Epiphany.
love this album SO much
if you did folklore you literally have to do evermore now.
Oh we need evermore next it has some of her best writing
The dad is a certified Aaron Dessner fan 💯
Evermore will be great to see in the future
would love to see you guys watch the long pond studio session of this album!
I’ve prayed for times like these 😭
so happy you guys listened to this album such a good one!!!
this has to be a dream IT HAS TO BE
oh you will absolutely LOVE evermore.
Oooo i’ve been waiting for this one
The one we’ve all been waiting for!!
I’m one of those people who was a huge taylor fan as a child, got back into her in 2020 and immediately as i fell my fandom with her slipping, but I saw her live in new orleans and she played my favorite song from speak now (and in her discography) and I’m becoming a superfan again! Folklore is the era where most people sat down but I was stood the entire time. this album is absolutely something special
i totally relate to loving her a kid, falling off, and then getting back into her in 2020!! what was the speak now song that was your favorite?
Was not expecting this but so excited
i was waiting for this!!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE FOR SO LONG YESSSSSS
You guys commented on how great the production was, that was mostly the work of Aaron Dessner, who also produces and plays many instruments for The National. Speaking of, you guys should definitely give some of The National’s stuff a listen!
peter losing wendy’s + peter from the anthology
Amazing starting point
OH YEA IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONEEEEEE
I literally loved this! Please react to evermore 😭😭🙏
react halsey, the great impersonator!!
I think you guys would like Rayes my 21st century symphony live album. Will give you the full body chills.
I recently broke up with my girlfriend who is a huge Taylor swift fan and got me to like her a lot. This video caught me watching a sunset. Perfect timing.
i’m very glad a spoken word version of thug story is in the same video as this folklore reaction
I am way too excited for this and I have no one to talk to about it lol
My #3 fav Taylor album, but also the one that made me a fan of hers to this day.
listening to rep without all the midia garbage that people were trying to throw at her is just perfect... one of her best albuns to me, i think that pop production that max martin did was the start of that pop "blindind lights - after hours" the weeknd did in 2020. dancing with our hands tied its a pop perfection with a STUNNING lyricism.
I hope this means that preacher’s daughter is next cause her first single form her album Perverts that’s coming out Jan 8th will be out on Nov 1st soon
i loooove this album, it was my first Taylor album that made me appreciate her on a new level, to this day it's still my favorite album along with evermore, so I'm happy you liked it!!!!
YUP I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
If you return to Taylor please try evermore next! Personally the better of the two quarantine albums in my opinion she’s just that girl
OMG YAAAAAAAAS!
feels like we waited forever for this and it’s finally here 😍🥹
hope you guys do more albums of her ❤️
GASPED WHEN I SAW THIS OMG CANT WAIT TO WATCH!!!!!!!!!!
FINALLLYYYYYY A TAYLOR ALBUM 😭😭😭
Hozier when!!!
FINALLY THEY LISTENING TO THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME
evermore is 🔥🔥
My favorite Taylor album 🖤🤍
I cry every time I hear Epiphany 😢
IM SO HAPPY YALL ARE NOT ANTI-SWIFT
really cool that you picked up on some of the English verbiage -- her partner of 4 years (at the time) was British, so makes sense that some of it seeped into her vocabulary
thanks so much guys! this is amazing ❤
Can’t wait for the sister album Evermore🥰
DON’T PLAAAYYYYYYUUHHH i’ve been waiting for this one ‼️‼️‼️
Taylor is a master songwriter and savant lyricist. I have no idea why you would think she gets criticized for her lyrics, it is quite the opposite (except by those haters who dont´know anything about lyricism). She has been awarded both songwriter and artist of the decade and there are so many university courses on just dissecting her lyrics alone. Her writing is filled with metaphores, double/triple entendres and literary references that the casual listener miss and that is fine if that is what a listener want , to just get the surface level lyricism. But it gets so much more advanced and clever when you dive deeper, her genius really shines above all else when one dives into it.. And that´s why nobel price winners and awarded authors believe she will win a nobel price in the future. Lastly, I highly recommend watching her "Long Pond studios sessions" of this album. There she sings this album and talks about every song and meanings.
I also think you would enjoy her album "Evermore"
Personally I find her newest album "TTPD+Anthology" her magnum opus. But it is a bit heavy on first listen to get on first listen, most need a few listens before the genuis of that album clicks.
OH MY GOD YES and i knew he would love exile
Now pls dooooo evermore😭😭😭😭😊
Hold up wait- you’re missing the lakes bonus track!
I knew Kevin would love exile
oh to hear folklore/evermore for the first time
SEVEN STAN RISE!
Thought this was Bon Iver, got excited, and then remembered y’all already did it
We gotta get yall to do Wallsocket by The Underscores
Still owns Rhode Island house, just had Travis Kielce and his family there while she was on break from the Eras tour.
Yea, don’t think she’ll part with that one.
Now you guys have to listen to evermore! And the tortured poets department
