    You could also add couple of cinnamon sticks and cardamom (tip: roast the while onions over the stove as it brings out the sweetness and juice). It makes it more flavorful as that’s what I do when I make pho Ca. You could add cilantro and scallion to your pho soup upon eating.

      Good point with the roasted onion.
      I think he shouldve added cinnamon sticks and black cardamon. Its basically one of the main ingredients to get the main flavor profile of pho.

      Unfortunately not. Green cardamom is totally different flavor than black cardamom. Check out asia stores, they normally have the black one. I never make pho without it, because it adds this unique flavor to it.

    The pho broth needs to have the basic spice in it i.e. charred onion, garlic, star anise and cinnamon. It cannot be called pho without this base.

    We usally char our onion and ginger over direct heat. I don't usally use olive oil, but everyone is diffrent. Everyone is diffrent and anyone can do anything. I actually like when people change and experiment to find new depths of flavor. I saw a suggestion to add other broths to Pho broth which could be intresting to find new flavors. Also I notice you added peppers directly to the broth which usually is not done because its hard to take away heat from a soup. Its better to leave it on the side with rooster sauce and pho sauce and add moderately. Enjoy and thanks.

    Hi Wil! I made this recipe twice and its DELICIOUS! The second time I modified it by charing onion and ginger and decided to add a cinnamon stick and a cube of rock sugar which are all things my mom did when she made pho. It SMELLED AMAZING. I'm surprised how much depth is in the flavor. I know it's not vegan but I added a bit of fish sauce at the end to build some of that depth. Thank you for this recipe.

    • @YEUNGMANCOOKING
      @YEUNGMANCOOKING  4 года назад +3

      abdel l: I have an idea for you? Add it to a recipe that is making vegetarian burgers or
      veggie patties ... don’t use it unless you are making a big batch tho, because they are all bland as the flavour has leaked out by an hour? Utilize it only as a filler. Right? Happy experimenting!

    ok I made this soup recently, and I am blown away. it is super delicious the way presented in this video and is versatile to use in other cooking as well. maybe it's just me, but it tastes even better when served at room temperature, I don't know how that is possible cuz I always thought cold soup was vile. but this is SO GOOD and having it with a bit of warm white rice is so much more delicious than you would expect lol

      there's one thing I nEED to know tho, I'd be delighted if u have an answer for me. the potato in the broth confuses me. it did turn out well, but I learned that u don't make stock from potato because of solanin (which is no real issue anymore with modern potatos) and because the potato tends to soak up flavor instead of releasing it. now, I couldn't find any information on the internet what a potato can contribute to a clear broth, but my bet is starches ? for the texture? pls let me know what your thoughts are this is keeping me up at night lol
