      It's not as talked about as it once was. People can be as understanding as they want, but a long wait between books will inevitably lead to a series falling out of the zeitgeist as it is overtaken by newer releases. It's still doing pretty well, but ten years ago it would have been all over BookTube all the time.

I'm currently in the first book (have read a bit more than half of it as of yet) and I really really don't like the book, although everyone seems to love it. I think I'll finnish the first one to see if maybe the end makes up for it but I really don't get where all the excitement comes from. Would you mind explaining your reasons for dnf'ing the series? Because I kinda wanna see if I'm alone in my opinions, if I'm just weird about some stuff or if idk people just have weird taste? 😅

    • @KMort
      @KMort 7 месяцев назад

      @sophiaaa504 the only bits of book one I enjoyed were the flashbacks with Chains and the gang, but that obviously doesn't exist after the first book anymore. The second book (I started and dropped it 3 times) is about gambling, and boats and sailing, I just found I didn't care at all about Locke & Jean, to then also have to put up with topics I personally find extremely dull.
      I am also in general not a fan of 'grey morality' because it usually just ends up being 'characters who happen to suck the least'.

I'm not following these authors closely, so to hear from you, Merph, how Scott is doing better in general makes me extremely pleased!

      Yes because that’s actually the correct opinion. No decent person would actually think otherwise. I can also understand people who say it’s his job and he is breaking the contract but I disagree. They don’t own us anything.

    • @tyvn2283
      @tyvn2283 8 месяцев назад +1

      honestly! i think it comes off as so entitled. this is completely my opinion but when people get really demanding or whatever about it it just feels like they’ve stopped actually viewing the author as an actual person and instead see them just as some content machine who *has* to put out another book right when they demand it otherwise why care about them i guess? like just because some authors can put out books/a series with steady regularity doesn’t mean every one will/can/is able to. it really gives zero understanding of having a life alongside what actually goes into making art like then why don’t you write a seven book series at least with no more than one-two years in between each book if it’s that easy?

    Nice coverage and a cogent reminder that Lynch characterized the novellas as bridging material, which obviously puts them ahead of Emberlain on any release schedule. While it would be nice to get them all together, I suspect they'll come at least 6 months apart to "buy more time" for progress, whether it be drafting or editing, on Emberlain. Then maybe a collected edition and/or deluxe collected edition still to come before Emberlain.

    I just watched the livestream about the first book and I thought I would answer your question. My favorite scene from Lies is the one I paraphrased in my earlier comment. When Locke is showing off their disguises and talking about how they are entirely fictional. He introduces Jean to them and says “he too suffers from a slight case of being imaginary” and Calo responds “merciful gods, it must be catching.” It so perfectly introduces Locke as a thespian, if you will, and just the ridiculousness of these characters. I literally have a picture in my phone of this scene in my phone to show people when talking about this book because it so perfectly encapsulates the humor I love so much.

It's likely those were originally written to be part of the next book, but either Scott or his editor decided they didn't belong. So it indicates progress on the book, and is positive in that it indicates the material, in spite of not making it into the novel, was still good enough to publish.

    This series is on my TBR for this year, because of your hype for it on this channel. I didn't even realize there was supposed to be an upcoming fourth book though. Does this series have a set number of books planned in it, with book four being the next installment, or is it more of an open, ongoing series that Lynch adds to whenever he feels there's something new to add?

    For those folks considering getting into or rereading this series. The audio books for this series are narrated by Michael Page, an amazing voice actor and reader. His narration coupled with Lynch's prose is INSANELY good. His readings of Father Chains and the Thief Maker will have you howling with laughter.

    While you shouldn't demand things from authors, there's nothing wrong with being super hyped over rumors/news.

    Gosh I bought the box set in 2016 and I was like I'll read it close to whenever book 4 releases. IT'S BEEN 8 YEARS and I haven't still lol. I know I'm going to love it. I usually check like twice a year to know if there's any update. I'm so excited, and I still haven't even read the first three books lol

    Your excitement is contageous!
    I have seen the cover of Book 1 [your left hand] many times and it always catches my eye...but still not read it.
    So there is now 83% chance of me reading it because of this new blue cover! I am in a mood for books in blue so I am looking for editions of some titel. [Like waiting 4 weeks for The Goblin Emperor copy in BLUE...yes, I have read the book already🤩].
    One question: Has the book 1 semi finished ending or is really a CLIFFhanger?

    i’m not crazy about the new edition cover tbh and i just hope if this version continues for the other books it won’t completely replace the mass market editions because i do really like them and for as much as i love this series i do not want to buy it all over again lol.
    and i completely agree with waiting however long it takes if that means what is released is as good as the author wants it to be. though any news is always exciting even if anything concrete is still some time away.

    I haven’t decided yet if I’m interested in reading this series. But if I do and I have to wait, who cares. I don’t get the anger around books taking a while to come out. Most of these books don’t sell enough that the author doesn’t need a day job. So if they are going to do right by their story, it’s going to take several years. Especially when you throw life into the mix. We all know how life likes to mess up our plans.
    Maybe my mellow view is because I started reading series in the early 90s that I am still not finished. My favourite series (Wars of Light and Shadow) is one I started reading when I was 15 and I will finish it this year at 46. I’m happy the author took her time with each volume and made a brilliant story. I’m almost sorry to see it end!
    And there are other series I had to wait years for the next instalment. No worries if you’ve forgotten everything by the time the next one comes out - it’s a great excuse to reread the earlier books

    I just finished all 3 last year, but I already miss Phineas and Ferb (Calo and Galdo)! I guess it’s time to reread book 1.

    Great news. I read the first one way back when it was originally published then picked up book two upon release. Book three took a while to come out then I finally read it , it was okay but not as good as one and two but I still want more of these characters. I recommend the series to anyone that will listen lol.

    My favorite thing in all 3 books, is when Locke screws over that hotel worker. Just completely ruins his life. I know that sounds bad, but it's so damn funny.

    ASOIAF fans: First time?
    I kid, behind tears. This feels like where we were at in 2018 with Winds of Winter. Hopefully your luck is better (swifter).
