Thanks.. I took it off two years ago, but I couldn't remember how I did it. (The plastic jet from the bell to the main body was clogged from sitting over the winter.)
Seeing 2 big mistakes right off the bat. First, you dont have to mark these carbs. They only seat one way. Second, never dig a flat head into the sealing area of anything. If you look at where he removed the screws, there is a nice little area to fit some small needle nosed into. Just put the close tip in and open. Pops the seal easily without damage.
Yep' no reason to mark its bowl. Most people who bring these to me that already took these apart strip the bowl screws because they dont press the bowl down in the base first. Then tighten screws. Guy brought one yesterday cause he burnt the carb up using starter fluid. Melted carb all to hell & damn near burnt his entire mower up..lol
Hi The outdoor power guy. I have the same B&S 550ex, The machine was stored and has never been used since the pandemic started. It doesn't start. After I disassembled and cleaned the carburetor and put a new air filter, and 4T oil, the machine started but in 2 seconds stopped. I disassembled again and clean the carburetor with a needle using such electronic's magnifier glasses to help and see more accurately. Now the machine starts perfectly OVER THE SIDEWALK and never stops. The Idle sounds stable, BUT.... when I try to use it on the grass, at the moment it has to make some " little effort " to cut the grass, it suddenly stops. I think it still has some problem of the amount of fuel to the mixture...is not enough. I'm right? Maybe I should buy a new carburetor? Best regards, Martin.
Are these plastic carburetor more or less susceptible to being clogged up by stale gas? Does draining the bowl really help preventing that? What are your thoughts on adding a fuel shut off valve between the carburetor and the fuel tank?
they are in my opinion more susceptible to being clogged by old stale gas due to the ports found hidden under the main jet. a fuel shut off on a push mower is not necessary unless the carb is leaking but thats an easy fix i only add cutoffs on riding mowers but some add them on push mowers as well it's personal preference , draining the bowl itself is not a good idea to take it off, the way to drain a mower to prevent the gas from going bad is at the end of the mowing season either run the mower until no gas is left in the tank or add the correct amount of fuel stabilizer to the gas tank to prevent the fuel from going bad, too much stabilizer can gel up inside the carb so add the correct amount. hope this info helps :)
you probably dont care but if you are stoned like me atm then you can watch pretty much all the new series on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my brother for the last months :)
The plastic carbs plug faster because epa mandates dictated fuel efficiency and they had to. make the side brass jet hole smaller. You can use a small drill and make it sligjtly larger making it less likely to clog
Thanks man 😃see you next spring, got it going again
Nice video , but I drill that very bottom jet out to .025 with a # 72 drill bit and that will make it run better , more power and start first pull !!
which one? the metal one or the plastic in the other side?

The carb works great. Problem is the fuel with the ethanol which gunks up the works.
NICE 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙

my float is sticking which is flooding the carb - thoughts?
You can get those center jets 4 for $10.00. I'd go that route. It's quicker.

What ever you have running in the background is very annoying and you are hard to understand
